Tin dioxide nanoparticles are prepared using a newly developed synthesis method of plasma-assisted electrolysis. A high voltage is applied to the tin metal plate to apply a high pressure and temperature to the synthesized oxide layer on the metal surface, producing nanoparticles in a low concentration of sulfuric acid. The particle size, morphology, and size distribution is controlled by the concentration of electrolytes and frequency of the power supply. The as-prepared powder of tin dioxide nanoparticles is used to fabricate a gas sensor to investigate the potential application. The particle-based gas sensor exhibits a short response and recovery time. There is sensitivity to the reduction gas for the gas flowing at rates of 50, 250, and 500 ppm of $H_2S$ gas.

In this paper, catalytic combustible gas sensor was fabricated and tested under flammable gases such as CH$_4$and $C_4$H$_{10}$by using Pt coil as a heater and/or temperature sensing element. Fine $Al_2$O$_3$powder was used for a bead and Pt, Pd noble metal powder for a catalyst. Resistance variation of Pt wire was traced by the changes of the gas concentrations in a chamber. Output voltage was then monitored to obtain the gas concentration from the resistance variation. In this experiment, MgO was used to protect cracks in the based and TiO$_2$to increase the sensitivity of the sensors. Water glass was also added to enhance the selectivity to the combustible gases.s.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between the global regulatory mechanism known as quorum sensing and expression of virulence factors in Escherichia coli O157:87. A nonpolar luxS deletion was introduced into the chromosome of strain CI03J, a human clinical isolate from South Korea, to create the ${\Delta}luxS$ mutant strain ML03J. Phenotypic characterization of wild-type and mutant strains demonstrated that ML03J had no obvious growth or metabolic defects on 0.2% glucose LB medium, produced a functionally defective flagellum, and could not utilize sorbose; the biological significance of sorbose utilization is unknown. Omics-based analysis revealed the involvement of LuxS in the transcriptional activation of several flagella/chemotaxisrelated genes (flhD; fliA, C, D, S, Z; and cheA, Y, Z), repression of glutamate-dependent acid resistance genes (gadAB), and expression of virulence factors including Shiga toxin, hemolysin, and SepD within the LEE pathogenicity island.
Ni 8 wt.%-doped tin oxide ($SnO_2$) thick films were fabricated into gas sensors by the method of screen printing onto alumina substrates. The particle size of $SnO_2$ was controlled by changing the ball-mill time between 0~120 h. The structural and morphological properties of these thick films were investigated using X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. The structural properties of $SnO_2$ powders showed a tetragonal phase with (110) dominant orientation. The particle size of the $SnO_2$:Ni powders after ball-mill of 120 h was about 0.05 ${\mu}m$. The gas sensitivity (S = Rg/Ra) to 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas was measured at room temperature by comparing the resistance in air (Ra) with that of the target gases (Rg). The sensitivity of the $SnO_2$ gas sensors was enhanced by increasing the ball-mill time. There was an association between the sensitivity of both the $CH_4$ gas and the $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas and the particle size of the $SnO_2$. $SnO_2$ gas sensors prepared by 72 h ball-mill showed a sensitivity of about 13 to 5 ppm $CH_4$ gas and $CH_3CH_2CH_3$ gas. The response time of the $SnO_2$:Ni gas sensors to the $CH_4$ gas was about 20 seconds.

A biosensor for the measurement of L-glutamine has been constructed by immobilizing the slice of Wistar rat kidney and it's organelle on $NH_3$ gas-sensing electrode. The effects of pH, buffer solution, temperature and thickness of slice were investigated in order to optimize electrode response. The tissue sensor had the linearity in the range of L-glutamine concentration $8.0{\times}10^{-5}{\sim}1.0{\times}10^{-2} M$ with a slope of 53.8 mV/decade in 0.05 M phosphate buffer solution, pH 7.8 at $30^{\circ}C$, and optimum thickness of slice and response time were 30 ${\mu}m$ and 3∼5 min, respectively. The organelle sensor showed the linearity within L-glutamine concentration range of $1.2{\times}10^{-4}{\sim}5.0{\times}10^{-3} M$ with a slope of 54.0 mV/decade in 0.05 M phosphate buffer solution, pH 7.8 at $30^{\circ}C$, and response time was 6∼7 min, respectively. Thus, it is clear that the tissue and organelle sensor will be useful for L-glutamine measurements.
The Function of the calcium sensing receptor (CaSR) is to control calcium levels by altering PTH (parathyroid hormone) secretion and renal calcium resorption. The influence of calcium on the basal and stimulated release of several hormones from chicken pituitary glands has been determined in vitro. The objective of this study was to identify SNP in chicken CaSR gene and to investigate the effect of the SNP on economic traits. The sequencing analysis method was used to identify nucleotide polymorphisms within chicken CaSR gene. This study identified SNP at position 1949 bp(Genebank accession No : XM_416491) in the exon 1. The SNP changed the amino acid to alanine(GCC) from serine(TCC). This SNP showed three genotypes, AA, AS and SS by digestion with the restriction enzyme NcoⅠ using the PCR-RFLP method. The A963S showed significant effect only on the first lay day (P<0.05) in Leghorn population. Leghorn with the genotype AA had significantly faster the first lay day(137.6) than the genotype AS(143.0, P<0.05). Also, the A963S showed significant effect only on the first lay day(P<0.05) and mean of egg weight(P<0.05) in KNC population. KNC with the genotypes AA ans AS had significantly faster the first lay day (151.0 and 152.6, respectively) than the genotype SS(159.4, P<0.05). And the genotypes SS had significantly heavier the mean of egg weight(50.4 kg, P<0.05) than the genotype AA ans AS (47.5 and 47.8 kg, respectively). According to result of this study, an a allele of the A963S was found to have a significant effect on the first lay day. It will be possible to use this SNP marker on selecting chicken to improve the first lay day.
To verify the field-effectiveness of Terrestrial Laser Scanner (TLS), a terrestrial LiDAR was deployed to examine the damage properties of woods in forest fire area, then the data was compared with the results surveyed by a forestry expert. Four sample plots (30 m × 50 m, 0.15 ha) were set from the foot to the top of the mountain, and DBH, height, clear length, burned height, and crown length were investigated. Next, TLS collected information on damage characteristics found in the sample plots. This information was then compared with that amassed by the expert. The expert and the TLS survey results showed 30.8 cm and 29.9 cm for DBH, 15.8 m and 17.5 m for tree height, 8.4 m and 8.4 m for clear length, 4.0 m, 3.5 m for burned height, and 7.4 cm and 9.1 cm for crown length. With the exceptions of height and clear length, no notable discrepancy was observed between two methods. H/D ratio, CL/H ratio, and BH/CL ratio, all of which contribute to stability and decay rate of the stand, from the two methods were also compared. The human survey rated each ratio (H/D, CL/H, BH/CL in order) 51.3%, 47.1%, and 53.6%, while the TLS presented the results of 58.8%, 52.0%, and 38.7%.
P2X receptors are membrane-bound ion channels that conduct $Na^+,\;K^+$, and $Ca^{2+}$ in response to ATP and its analogs. There are seven subunits identified so far ($P2X_1-P2X_7$). $P2X_2$ receptors are known to be expressed in a wide range of organs including brains and adrenal grands. PC12 cells are originated from adrenal grand and differentiated by nerve growth factor or pituitary adenylate cyclase activating poly peptide (PACAP). Previous studies indicate that $P2X_2$ receptor activation in PC12 cells couples to $Ca^{2+}-dependent$ release of catecholamine and ATP. It is known that acidic pH potentiates ATP currents at $P2X_2$ receptors. This leads to a hypothesis that $P2X_2$ receptors may play an important role in PC12 cell differentiation, one of the characteristics of which is neurite outgrowth, induced by the hormones under lower pH. In the present study, we isolated several clones which potentiate neurite outgrowth by PACAP in acidic pH (6.8), but not in alkaline pH (7.6). RT-PCR and electrophysiology data indicate that these clones express only functional $P2X_2$ receptors in the absence or presence of PACAP for 3 days. Potentiation of neurite outgrowth resulted from PACAP (100 nM) in acidic pH is inhibited by the two P2X receptor antagonists, suramin and PPADS ($100\;{\mu}M)$ each), and exogenous exprerssion of ATP-binding mutant $P2X_2$ receptor subunit ($P2X_2[K69A]$). However, acid sensing ion channels (ASICs) are not involved in PACAP-induced neurite outgrowth potentiation in lower pH since treatments of an inhibitor of ASICs, amyloride ($10\;{\mu}M$), did not give any effects to neurite extension. The vesicular proton pump ($H^+-ATPase$) inhibitor, bafilomycin (100 nM), reduced neurite extension indicating that ATP release resulted from $P2X_2$ receptor activation in PC12 cells is needed for neurite outgrowth. These were confirmed by activation of mitogen activated protein kinases, such as ERKs and p38. These results suggest roles of ATP and $P2X_2$ receptors in hormone-induced cell differentiation or neuronal synaptogenesis in local acidic environments.

A flammable gas sensor based on the $SnO_2$thin film deposited by the reactive ion assisted deposition was fabricated and ultra-thin Pd layer as catalyst was adsorbed at surface by ion beam sputtering. The initial oxidation states of Pd catalyst were controlled to investigate the role of Pd in the sensing process of inflammale gas sensor through annealing in air and vacuum respectively. The Pd catalyst existing in pure metallic state showed the sensitivity higher than that of PdO. The result might be closely related to the fact that PdO as a surface acceptor would receive electrons via Pd sub-channel from $SnO_2$, and thus which reduces the sensitivity and delay the response time.
This paper discusses the influence on long-tenn predictions of the ship response in ocean by using the Global Wave Statistics data, GWS, and wave information from the remote sensing satellites. GWS's standard scatter diagrams of significant wave height and zero-crossing wave period are suggested to be corrected to a round number of 0.01/1000 fitted with a statistical analytic model of the conditional lognormal distribution for zero-crossing wave period. The GEOSAT satellite data are utilized which presented by I. R. Young and G. J. Holland (1996, named as GEOSAT data). At first, qualities of this data are investigated, and statistical characteristic trends are studied by means of applying known probability distribution functions. The wave height data of GEOSAT are compared to the data observed onboard merchant ships, the data observed by measure instrument installed on the ocean-going container ship and so on. To execute a long-tenn prediction of ship response, joint probability functions between wave height and wave period are introduced, therefore long-term statistical predictions are executed by using the functions.
