Study on Magnetic Behavior of Zn1-xMnxO Films Grown on Si and α-Al2O3 Substrates by Sol-gel Method and Powders

  • We report on the ferromagnetic characteristics of $Zn_{1-x}Mn_xO$ films (x = 0.3) prepared by sol-gel method on the silicon and (0001) ${\alpha}-Al_2O_3$ substrates at the annealing temperature of 700$^{\circ}C$. Magnetic measurements show that Curie temperature ($T_C$) and the coercive field ($H_C$) for the film on the silicon are about 32 K and about 275 Oe, while those for that on the sapphire are about 32 K and 425 Oe, respectively. Energy dispersive spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy measurements suggest that ferromagnetic precipitates originated by manganese oxide compound formed at the interfaces of the both substrates may be responsible for the observed ferromagnetic behavior of the films. Electron paramagnetic resonance study of the powders up to the concentration of x=0.15 supports the result.

Study for Manufacturing of Zinc Sulfate from Electric Arc Furnace Dust by Hydrometallrugical Process (제강분진으로부터 습식제련공정에 의한 황산아연의 제조 연구)

  • Herein, we selectively recovered Zn and produced ZnSO4 from electric arc furnace dust using a hydrometallurgical process. The analysis of the properties of the electric arc furnace dust revealed that the Fe content (9.9%) was relatively low while the Mn content (19%) was high as compared to the composition of general dust. Therefore, an appropriate hydrometallurgical process was designed based on the properties of the raw materials. In the leaching process involving the use of 1.6 M sulfuric acid and 20% solid-liquid ratio at 60℃ for 1 h, 85% of the Zn and Mn got dissolved while the Fe was not leached. To selectively recover Zn, a solvent extraction process using D2EHPA as the extractant was chosen, and 99% of the Zn was extracted using 0.8 M D2EHPA with 32% saponification and an O/A ratio of 2 using counter-current 3-stage extraction. Mn was entirely scrubbed with an aqueous sulfuric acid solution of pH 1.5. Finally, Zn was concentrated and stripped using 1.5 M sulfuric acid at an O/A ratio of 4 using counter-current 4-stage stripping. The stripping solution contained 40 g/L of Zn, and 99.9% of ZnSO4∙H2O was obtained by vacuum distillation.

  • The syntheses of DTPA-bis(amide) conjugates of phosphonated cyclohexane moieties (5a-d) and their Gd(III) complexes of the type $[Gd(L)(H_2O)]{\cdot}nH_2O$ (6a-d; L = 5a-d) are described. All new compounds have been characterized by microanalysis and spectroscopic techniques. High $r_1$ relaxivities of aqueous solutions of 6a-d are observed to be in the range of $10.7-18.3\;mM^{-1}sec^{-1}$, which compare much better than that of $Omniscan^{(R)}$ ($r_1=3.90\;mM^{-1}sec^{-1}$).

  • In this study, a novel microwave-matrix reformer was proposed to convert CH4, which is a major component, to a high quality hydrogen energy. And to identify this performance, it was investigated for O2/C ratio, steam feed amount and reformed gas recirculation which are affected for methane conversion and product gas yield. Through the parametric screening studies, optimal operating conditions were that O2/C ratio, steam feed amount and recirculation rate were 1.1, 10 mL/min and 30 L/min. In this conditions, CH4 conversion was 68.1%, H2 selectivity 77.2 and H2/CO ratio 2.62 which are possible applying SOFC stack for RPG (residential power generator).

  • Thc purpose of this study is to develop the efficient process for recovering vanadium and nickel from the incineralionash of the oil fly ash. In this paper, the physical and chemical properties of the incineration ash was examined, and theleaching characteristics of the incineration ash were investigated by water leaching and sulEuric acid leaching tcsls. The incinerationash of oil fly ash was mainly consisted of oxldes such as V,09, V,O,, NaVO,, Ni,(VO,)Z, Fe,O,, CaSO,, SiO,.Thc waler leaching showed low extraction of metallic components, while the sulfunc acid lcaching with high temperahlreand pressure increased the extraction of vanadium and nickcl considerably. For instance, the exlraction rates of the metalllccomponents on the sulfuric acid leaching were 99% for V and 45% for Ni at 90$^{\circ}$C with pH 0.5 H,SO,, and were86% for V and 75% far Ni at ZOO"C(64 psi) with pH 1.0 H-SO,. with pH 1.0 H-SO,.

  • We examined acidity state of inorganic aerosol and oxidation state of organic aerosol by High Resolution Time of Flight Aerosol Mass Spectrometer (HR-ToF-AMS) at Baengnyeong Super site from Jan 2012 to Dec 2013. Additionally, we carried out the analysis for the aerosol component group of organic matter ($C_xH_y$, $C_xH_yO_1$, $C_xH_yO_z$, $C_xH_yO_zN_p$) and elemental composition to calculate H/C, O/C, N/C, OM/OC and identify the oxidation state. The aerosol chemical composition in this study is dominated by sulfate ($SO_4{^{2-}}$), nitrate ($NO_3{^-}$) plays a smaller role in aerosol acidity. Ammonium ($NH_4{^+}$) was found in a formation of $(NH_4)_3H(SO_4)_2$. However, the binding formations of $NH_4NO_3$ and $NH_4Cl$ increase in the winter. $C_xH_yO_1$ indicating the oxidized state of $PM_{1.0}$ has the highest ratio of 41% while $C_xH_y$ indicating the non-oxidized state has a lower ratio of 36%, meaning that the oxidation level of $PM_{1.0}$ in Baengnyeong Island is high. The ratio between H/C and O/C was 1.33 and 0.78 respectively, showing the characteristic of LV-OOA (Low volatility-Oxygenated Organic Aerosol). Acidic and oxidized aerosols sampled during this field study were largely anthropogenic in origin from Chinese continent and photochemically aged.

Conducted to Verify the Effect of Chlorine Dioxide (ClO2) on Odor Reduction at a Compost Facility (이산화염소 가스분무에 의한 퇴비장 악취저감 효과)

  • This study was conducted to verify the effect of chlorine dioxide ($ClO_2$) on odor reduction at a commercial swine facility consisting of a compost ficility. Compost facility in $NH_3$ concentration was around 550 ppm and less than 78 ppm before and after the $ClO_2$ spraying, respectively, which was over 86% reduction. There was no H2S detection. $NH_3$ concentration was around 420 ppm and less than 35 ppm before and after the $ClO_2$ spraying, respectively, which was over 83% reduction. $H_2S$ concentration was around 210 ppb and less than 32 ppb before and after the $ClO_2$ spraying, respectively, which was over 85% reduction. Hence, $ClO_2$ spraying at windowless barns was compost facility decreased malodor such as $NH_3$.

Synthesis of Nanoporous Structured SnO2 and its Photocatalytic Ability for Bisphenol A Destruction

  • Nanoporous structured tin dioxide ($SnO_2$) is characterized and its application in the photocatalytic destruction of endocrine, Bisphenol A, is examined. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) reveals irregularly shaped nanopores of size 2.0-4.5 nm. This corresponds to the result of an average nanopore distribution of 4.5 nm, as determined by Barret-Joyner-Halenda (BJH) plot from the isotherm curve. The photoluminescence (PL) curve, corresponding to the recombination between electron and hole, largely decreases in the $TiO_2$/nanoporous $SnO_2$ composite. Finally, a synergy effect between $TiO_2$ and porous $SnO_2$ is exhibited in photocatalysis: the photocatalytic destruction of Bisphenol A is improved by combining the nanoporous structured $SnO_2$ with $TiO_2$, and 75% decomposition of 10.0 ppm of Bisphenol A is achieved after 24 h.

Kinetics and Mechanism of the Benzylaminolysis of O,O-Diethyl S-Aryl Phosphorothioates in Dimethyl Sulfoxide

  • The reactions of O,O-diethyl Z-S-aryl phosphorothioates with X-benzylamines are kinetically investigated in dimethyl sulfoxide at $85.0^{\circ}C$. The Hammett (log $k_2$ vs ${\sigma}x$) and Br$\ddot{o}$nsted [log $k_2$ vs $pK_a$(X)] plots are biphasic concave downwards for substituent X variations in the nucleophiles with a break point at X = H. The signs of the cross-interaction constants (${\rho}xz$) are positive for both the strongly and weakly basic nucleophiles. Considerably great magnitude of ${\rho}xz$ (= 6.56) value is observed with the weakly basic nucleophiles, while ${\rho}xz$ = 0.91 with the strongly basic nucleophiles. Proposed reaction mechanism is a stepwise process with a rate-limiting leaving group expulsion from the intermediate involving a backside nucleophilic attack with the strongly basic nucleophiles and a frontside attack with the weakly basic nucleophiles. The kinetic results are compared with those of the benzylaminolysis of O,O-diphenyl Z-S-aryl phosphorothioates.
