  • The results obtained by elasto-plastic analysis method about the displacement, deformation and stability on the soft ground excavation using sheet pile were summarized as follows ; 1. In the case of strut 1 step, the maximum wall displacement value in the first and the second excavation was small, but it increase remarkably after the third excavation and when the excavation depth was 8m, the point of maximum wall displacement was shown 0.75H~0.8H. 2. The value of safety factor(Fs) was increased with increasing of the penetration depth of sheet pile, cohesion and internal friction angle of ground. Safety factor was mostly effected by penetration depth of sheet pile and more effected by cohesion than internal friction angle of ground. 3. Since the deformation of sheet pile of this ground from the results of analysis and measurement increased remarkabaly after 6m excavation depth, it was desirable that the point of strut installation was GL-6m. 4. Safe excavation depth on ground by analysis considered penetration depth, cohesion and internal friction was shown at the table 3.

  • This experimental study was devoted to investigate skin friction of H group piles with uplift loading conditions in granite soil under laboratory test. Model piles made of steel embedded in weathered granite soil were used in this study. Pile arrangements($2{\times}2,\;3{\times}3$), pile space(2D, 4D, 6D), and soil density($D_r=40%,\;80%$) were tested. The main results obtained from the model tests can be summarized as follows. The series of tests found that ultimate uplift load and displacement for group piles were increased as piles space ratio increases to $D_r=40%$ of soil density. In the relative density of $D_r=80%$, bearing capacity for group piles was greater than for single pile. In the relative density of $D_r=40%$, the theoretical value of skin friction for group piles was greater than practical value. In the relative density of $D_r=80%$, both theoretical and practical value of skin friction for group piles were increased as piles space ratio increases.

  • Recently, as the utilization of underground space increases, the demand for underground excavation increases. In this study, the concrete mixture with a new material was used to develop and evaluate the stability of the CS-H wall that can greatly minimize the problems of existing wall and minimize the impact of ground depression and surrounding ground that may occur in the future for excavation of over 30 m deep in urban areas. The fiber reinforcement formulation of steel fibers, synthetic fibers, and glass fibers, along with fine aggregate parts of PS-ball and ferronickel, were mixed. The Mixture ratios were determined by conducting slump test compresive strength test, modulus of elastic test, flexural strength test, splitting tensile strength test and conductivity test. As a result of the test, the steel fiber mixture showed very good results compared to other reference values in all items, and it is considered to be the most suitable for the CS-H wall to be developed.

  • The settlement hardly occurs in structures supported by pile foundation such as abutment, culvert but a cavity is formed in the lower part of a structure. As a result, soil discharged from the lateral ground to the cavity accelerates the settlement of the lateral ground of the structure, resulting in a larger settlement. Therefore, in order to prevent problems caused by cavity under the structure supported by pile foundation, soil Flow Protector (briefly called 'FLP'), which can be easily installed on the side of structure, was developed. In this study, an laboratory model test was carried out to prove the reduction effect of settlement and to estimate the optimal installation length of the FLP. As a result, the installation of the FLP reduced the settlement of the lateral ground and prevented the leakage of lateral ground soil into the cavity. If the stiffness of the FLP is small, the state or active earth pressure is generated in the upper part, which is not favorable for stability. But if the stiffness of the FLP is high enough, the passive earth pressure area is generated in the upper part, which will be advantageous for the stability. Also, the increased installation length of FLP is effective to reduce the settlement. And the ratio of the optimal length of the FLP to the box structure height (H = 250 mm) are flexible FLP 1.38, stiff FLP 0.73.

  • H-pile can be more easily driven than pipe pile by pile driver and shows high skin friction and plugging effect. And lately It is well grown that the high strength H-pile has been widely used f3r pile foundations. To compare the skin frictions of H piles under different density soil conditions, this paper presents results of a series of model tests on vertically loaded group piles. Model piles made of steel embedded in weathered granite soil were used in this study. Pile arrangements $(2\times2,\;3\tunes3)$, pile space(2D, 4D, 6D), and soil density$(D_r=40\%,\;80\%)$ were tested. The main results obtained from the model tests can be summarized as follows. The series of tests found that compression load for group piles increases as number of piles increase and piles space ratic decrease to $D_r=40\%$ of soil density. The analysis also found that the theoretical value of skin friction for group piles is greater than practical value as piles space ratio increases to $D_r=40\%$ of soil density. Piles showed the greatest difference of the skin friction in case that the pile space ratio(S/D) is 6. The theoretical value by Meyerhof and DM-7 showed 1.83 times and 1.32 times respectively as great as practical value in case of S/D=6 and $2\times2$.

  • Partially penetrated SCP method is to install sand compaction piles in a soft clay layer not penetrating to the bed layer. In this study, consolidation behaviors of soft grounds improved by both partially and fully penetrated SCP methods are presented. When the replacement ratio is low, the settlement characteristic of the ground improved by fully penetrated SCP method seems to be consistent regardless the degree of consolidation. On the other hands, the ground improved by partially penetrated SCP method appears to decrease depending on the degree of consolidation. In addition, the settlement of upper clay layer is more increasing as the penetration ratio ($H_d/H$) is decreasing. No effect of stress concentration at the lower part of the partially penetrated SCP method is developed. The ratio of stress sharing appears to be almost consistent regardless the degree of consolidation.

  • Using the case of design to the Large diameter Bored Pile, We showed the various method to estimate the Lateral coefficient of subgrade reaction and analyzed the lateral displacement behavior according to the characteristics of sub layer distribution. According to the study, Mutual relation to the N value and the soil modulus of deformation showed 400N to 800N to the fine grained soil and weathered soil. It showed simular tendancy with the proposed expression of Schmertmann. But Weathered rock was over estimated as 4,200N. $k_h$ to the sedimentory soil and weathered rock each showed these orded of Schmertmann-PMT-2,800N and Schmertmann-2,800N-PMT. As the factor($\alpha$) 4 was applied to the estimation in weathered rock, $k_h$ to the PMT was calculate as a big value. If the pile is long and the pile is surpported to the soil, Lateral displacement was in inverse proportion ratio to the value of $k_h$. But the case of shallow soil layer(early bedrock) and the short pile, Lateral displacement was affected by the behavior of socheted pile to the bedrock not by the upper soil layer.

  • In this study, sand compaction pile method was adopted to improve the soft ground under the permanent dyke, namely west sea dyke of Incheon New Port. The row replacement ratio 30% was applied to consider the ground condition, environmental side and the construction cost of the site. The stability and displacement analysis was carried out by respectively SLOPE/W and PLAXIS 2D program. Based on this analysis, it is found that the safety factor and displacement is within an allowable criteria. The model experiment was carried out using the acryl soil box with $400(H){\times}1200(L){\times}250(W)mm$ to show the displacement of the dyke and behavior of soft ground. Based on this experiment results, it is found that the settlement does not occur from 1 and 2 loading phases and horizontal displacement of 0.0075% occurs from 2 phases. It is also found that the differential settlement occurs 0.05mm corresponding respectively 0.02% and 0.03% of the dyke height(15cm).

  • When group pile supporting structures are to be subjected to large lateral loads, generally, hatter piles are used in group pile with vertical piles. It is well known that batter piles resist lateral static loads which are acted upon the piles as axial farces quite well but, they show a poor performance under seismic loads. However, it is not yet known how the batter piles behave under dynamic loading and how to strengthen the batter piles to improve the seismic performance. Shaking table tests were performed to investigate the seismic behavior of the batter pile and to bring up the countermeasures to improve the seismic performance. As the result of the shaking table tests, batter piles failed due to not only the excessive increase of compressive force near the pile head but also that of tensile force. In case that the pile head was connected with pile cap by rubber joint, the max. acceleration at the pile cap was reduced due to the high damping ratio of rubber and the max. moment and max. axial farce at the pile head was decreased remarkably. When the inclinations(V:H) of the batter pile were 8:3 and 8:4, max. moment, max. shear force, and max. axial farce were reduced notably and max. acceleration and max. displacement at the pile cap was diminished, too.
