  • In the industry, three-dimensional coloring has been needed for realistic prototype from rapid prototyping. Z-corporation developed a 3D printer which provides three-dimensional colored prototype. However, the existing process cannot be adopted to models from other rapid prototyping process. In addition, time and cost for manufacturing colored prototype still remain to be improved. In this study, a new coloring process using ink-jet head is proposed for color printing on three-dimensional prototype surface. Process parameters such as the angle and the distance between ink-jet nozzle and the three-dimensional surface should be investigated from experiments. The correction matrix according to sloped angle to minimize the distortion of 2D image was proposed by analysis of printing error. Therefore, approximated method for angle and discrete length according to the radius of curvature for printing on the curved surface was proposed. By printing image on the doubly curved surface, the method was verified. As a practical example, helmet was chosen for printing images on the curved surface. The character images were applied with approximated method for angle and discrete length and was printed on the helmet surface.

  • Production of green pepper has been increased due to customer's preference and a projected ten-year boom in the industry in Korea. This study was carried out to develop an automatic grading and sorting system for green pepper using machine vision. The system consisted of a feeding mechanism, segregation section, an image inspection chamber, image processing section, system control section, grading section, and discharging section. Green peppers were separated and transported using a bowl feeder with a vibrator and a belt conveyor, respectively. Images were taken using color CCD cameras and a color frame grabber. An on-line grading algorithm was developed using Visual C/C++. The green peppers could be graded into four classes by activating air nozzles located at the discharging section. Length and curvature of each green pepper were measured while removing a stem of it. The first derivative of thickness profile was used to remove a stem area of segmented image of the pepper. While pepper is moving at 0.45 m/s, the accuracy of grading sorting for large, medium and small pepper are 86.0%, 81.3% and 90.6% respectively. Sorting performance was 121 kg/hour, and about five times better than manual sorting. The developed system was also economically feasible to grade and sort green peppers showing the cost about 40% lower than that of manual operations.

  • We investigate the critical issue on how the BBF (bursty bulk flow) is related to the substorm current wedge formation. Observationally, after analysing data sets from Geotail spacecraft at near tail and many ground magnetic observatories for 9 months period of 1996, we find three BBF events that clearly occurred at the center of the wedge with region I type FAC (field-aligned current), and two other BBF events that were seen outside the wedge sector. Theoretically, we suggest that the substorm current wedge generation by BBF is most likely when the h' VB contribution is dominant in the well-known MHD $J_{II}$ expression (Vasyliunaus, 1984) or when the divergence of the cross-tail current carried by the particle's gradient/curvature drift is predominantly sufficient at the moment of the BBF arrival at near tail.

  • In this paper, we investigate p-biharmonic maps u : (M, g) $\rightarrow$ (N, h) from a Riemannian manifold into a Riemannian manifold with non-positive sectional curvature. We obtain that if ${\int}_M|{\tau}(u)|^{{\alpha}+p}dv_g$ < ${\infty}$ and ${\int}_M|d(u)|^2dv_g$ < ${\infty}$, then u is harmonic, where ${\alpha}{\geq}0$ is a nonnegative constant and $p{\geq}2$. We also obtain that any weakly convex p-biharmonic hypersurfaces in space formN(c) with $c{\leq}0$ is minimal. These results give affirmative partial answer to Conjecture 2 (generalized Chen's conjecture for p-biharmonic submanifolds).

  • The Groningen gas field shows exponential growth in earthquake event counts around a magnitude M1 with a doubling time of 6-9 years since 2001. This behavior is identified with dimensionless curvature in land subsidence, which has been evolving at a constant rate over the last few decades essentially uncorrelated to gas production. We demonstrate our mechanism by a tabletop crack formation experiment. The observed skewed distribution of event magnitudes is matched by that of maxima of event clusters with a normal distribution. It predicts about one event < M5 per day in 2025, pointing to increasing stress to human living conditions.

  • The purpose of this study is to identificate root canal system including ideal access placement, root curvature, canal configuration, incidence of isthmus in mandibular incisors for success of endodontic treatment. 200 mandibular incisors were selected. The ideal access placement was determined as follows. The teeth were radiographed from mesiodistal and buccolingual views using intraoral dental film. The image was divided into coronal, middle and apical third using the proximal film. Straight line access was determined by measuring the faciolingual canal width and placing points at midway point between the buccal and lingual wall at the junction of the middle and apical third and at the juntion of coronal and middle third of the root canal.(omitted)

  • This paper outlines the method of formulating the bi-cubic B-spline surface of ship hull, employing the open uniform knot vector as well as the periodic uniform knot vector. An appropriate set of B-spline control vertices to generate the B-spline surface is determined by obtaining the pseudoinverse matrix of basis functions. The comparison between the given offsets and the resulting coordinates from the generated ship hull surface shows a good agreement. To check the fairness of the surface Gaussian curvature is calculated on many small subpatches and displayed on the black-and-white plot of the isoparametric net of the surface.

  • Let M be a real hypersurface of a complex space form with almost contact metric structure $({\phi},{\xi},{\eta},g)$. In this paper, we study real hypersurfaces in a complex space form whose structure Jacobi operator $R_{\xi}=R({\cdot},{\xi}){\xi}$ is ${\xi}$-parallel. In particular, we prove that the condition ${\nabla}_{\xi}R_{\xi}=0$ characterize the homogeneous real hypersurfaces of type A in a complex: projective space $P_n{\mathbb{C}}$ or a complex hyperbolic space $H_n{\mathbb{C}}$ when $g({\nabla}_{\xi}{\xi},{\nabla}_{\xi}{\xi})$ is constant and not equal to -c/24 on M, where c is a constant holomorphic sectional curvature of a complex space form.

  • In seismic areas, ductility is an important factor in design of high strength concrete (HSC) members under flexure. A number of twelve HSC beams with different percentage of ${\rho}$ & ${\rho}^{\prime}$ were cast and incrementally loaded under bending. The effect of ${\rho}^{\prime}$ on ductility of members were investigated both qualitatively and quantitatively. During the test, the strain on the concrete middle faces, on the tension and compression bars, and also the deflection at different points of the span length were measured up to failure. Based on the obtained results, the serviceability and ultimate behavior, and especially the ductility of the HSC members are more deeply reviewed. Also a comparison between theoretical and experimental results are reported here.

  • The purpose of this research is to analyze the lower part of dress forms with different sectional rotation-angles ($e.g.\;9^{\circ},\;15^{\circ},\;30^{\circ},\;45^{\circ}$) using three-dimensional measurement system and to investigate measurement properties for dress making. The dress forms used in this experiment were size 8 and six types: four from Korea and two from Japan. The instrument and tools for three-dimensional measurement was Whole Body 3D scanner (Exyma-WBS2H). The analysis program used in this experiment was Rapid Form 2004 PP1 (INUS technology, Inc, Korea). The measurement of dress forms was done three times with different sectional rotation-angles and its data were analyzed using SPSS WIN 10.0 Package. The following results were obtained: 1. With mean and standard deviation of each measured part, it was found out that the dress forms from two countries were different in size per each part. For example, the Japanese one was relatively large in middle hip and hip, compared to the Korean one. 2. The 3D analysis of the sectional rotation-angles revealed some differences between the two dress forms in sectional length per each part. 3. With cluster analysis results, it was found that there were definite differences among measurements per each part, especially in $30^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$ sections. 4. The proportion of the dress forms showed significant differences in the curvature between center and side section of the lower parts. In addition, the shapes on the horizontal section map of the four levels (waist, middle hip, hip, and bottom) were analyzed.
