A novel ice particle leaching method for fabrication of porous and biodegradable PLGA scaffold has been proposed for the application to tissue engineering. After uniform mixing of poly(L-lactide-co-glycolide) (PLGA) and bovine serum albumin-fluorescein isothiocyanate (FITC-BSA), the FITC-BSA loaded scaffold was fabricated by adding various ratio of ice particle. The release profiles of FITC-BSA were examined using pH 7.4 PBS for 28 days at $37^{circ}$. The release amount was determined by fluorescence intensity by using the fluorescence spectrophotometer and the morphological change of the scaffolds was observed by scanning electron microscope. The release initial burst of BSA containing scaffolds was lower than that of simple dipping scaffolds resulting in constant release aspect. Although the BSA concentration increased. the initial burst was not increased. As a result of this study, it can be suggested that ice particle leaching method for the tissue engineered scaffold miff be very useful and it is possible to impregnate with water soluble factors like cytokine. We suggest that ice particle leaching method may be useful to tissue engineered organ regeneration.
Mercury Iodide as good sensitivity at radiation and has an easy peculiarity that operates at low voltage for other photoconductors(a-Se, a-Si, Ge, etc) Based on this characteristic, we studied about an efficiency of the digital x-ray detector in acccordance with the thickness of photoconductor. To solve the problem that is difficult to make a large area film using PVD(Physical Vapor Deposition)method, we used a PIB(Particle In Binder)method. To make a binder paste, we used a PVB(Polyvinylbutyral) as a binder and a DGME(Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether), DGMEA(Diethylene Glycol Monobutyl Ether Acetate) as a solvent. Using this binder paste, we made a polycrystal mercury iodide film that has an each thickness. To evaluate the electrical properties of this films, we measured a darkcurrent, sensitivity and SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio). Mercury iodide film of the 200um thickness has good electrical properties as a result of the measurement. From this result there is a good chance that replace the existing a-Se(Amnorphous seleinum; a-se) with the mercury iodide.
We investigated the feasibility of incorporating Codonopsis lanceolata (C. lanceolata) powder into cookies as a value-added food ingredient. The density and moisture content of the dough was not significantly affected by the addition of C. lanceolata powder (p>0.05); the pH ranged from 6.01-6.51. The spread ratio decreased significantly with the increasing levels of C. lanceolata powder added (p<0.05). The lightness decreased, but both browning and hardness increased significantly with the higher amounts of C. lanceolata powder in the formulation (p<0.05). The 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) (ABTS) radical scavenging activities were increased significantly (p<0.05) and correlated well with increasing amounts of C. lanceolata. In consumer acceptance tests, the addition of C. lanceolata powder, up to 10% (w/w), had a favorable effect on consumer preferences for all the attributes tested. Based on these observations, we recommend cookies with 5% C. lanceolata powder to take advantage of its functional properties without sacrificing consumer acceptability.
Effects of increasing dietary rice straw on chewing activity, ruminal fermentation, and fibrolytic enzyme activity in growing goats were investigated in a $4{\times}4$ Latin Square experiment. The goats were offered four diets with an increasing proportion of rice straw (i.e. 0.05, 0.10, 0.15 and 0.20, respectively, on dry matter basis). Increasing level of rice straw increased ($P_{linear\;effect}$ <0.05) the time spent on eating, ruminating, and chewing. The ruminal pH and acetate: propionate ratio were increased ($P_{linear\;effect}$ <0.05), while the $NH_3$-N concentration was decreased ($P_{linear\;effect}$ <0.01). Increasing level of rice straw in the diet increased ($P_{linear\;effect}{\leq}0.01$) molar proportion of acetate and isovalerate, and decreased ($P_{linear\;effect}$ <0.01) molar proportion of propionate. The CMCase, xylanase and cellobiase activities in the rumen were decreased ($P_{linear\;effect}$ <0.05) with increasing level of dietary rice straw, whereas the avicelase activity was increased ($P_{linear\;effect}$ <0.01). In summary, increased level of rice straw elevated the dietary neutral detergent fibre (NDF) content in the diet and had a great impact on chewing activity and ruminal fermentation.

The effect of SNC(silver nano colloid) on the emission reduction of odors such as ammonia ($NH_3$), hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$), and methane ($CH_4$) from swine excreta was studied. Silver has been used as an universal antibiotic substance and can reduce the emission of some gases by sterilizing action. Therefore, an apparatus which produces SNC was developed and was conducted its performance test. Also, the SNC made by the apparatus was applied to swine excreta sampled from a piggery in oder to find the effect on the reduction of odor emission. An electrolysis apparatus was developed to produce SNC and its capacity was 0.024 ppm/$hr{\cdot}L$. The effects of SNC on the reduction of odor emission from swine excreta were tested for bad smell gases of ammonia ($NH_3$), hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$) and methane ($CH_4$). For ammonia gas, factorial experiments were conducted to find the effects of concentration and application rate of SNC. The test results for the different concentrations of 20 ppm, 50 ppm, and 100 ppm showed that the more concentration of SNC was increased, the more emission reduction of ammonia gas increased. From the test results about the effect of application rate, the more SNC was applied, the more emission reduction of $NH_3$ increased. In order to reduce the concentration of $NH_3$ below 5 ppm, SNC of 50 ppm is recommended to be applied at an interval of 6 hours, and is mixed with swine excreta in the volumetric ratio of 4:1. For hydrogen sulfide gas, the concentration was decreased as time went by and was reduced rapidly in the first stage of the tests for all applied concentrations of SNC (20 ppm, 50 ppm, and 100 ppm). Especially, when 100 ml of SNC with 100 ppm was applied, emission of hydrogen sulfide gas was reduced rapidly during early 4 hours after the application of SNC. And, concentration of hydrogen sulfide gas was maintained below 20 ppm after 12 hours. For methane gas, t-test showed that there was no significance on the effect of its application for all applied concentrations of SNC. Therefore, it was concluded that the application of SNC on swine excreta had no effect on the emission reduction of $CH_4$.
An experiment was conducted to study the effect of ionophore enriched cold processed mineral block supplemented with urea molasses on microbial growth and rumen fermentation. Twelve adult male crossbred cattle were divided into four groups on body weight basis. Animals were given wheat straw as a basal diet. The animals of group I and II were supplemented with concentrate mixture and animals of group III and IV were supplemented with cold processed urea molasses mineral block (UMMB). Thirty mg monensin/day/animal were supplemented to the animals of group II and 35 ppm monensin were incorporated in the UMMB supplemented to the animals of group IV. Dry matter (DM) intake did not differ significantly among groups. Mean rumen pH was higher in UMMB fed animals. Total volatile fatty acids (TVFA) concentration (mmole/L strained rumen liquor (SRL) in group III (113.19) was significantly (p<0.05) higher than those of group I (105.83) and II (108.74) but similar to group IV (109.34). TVFA production (mole/day) was similar in all the groups. The molar proportion of acetate was significantly (p<0.01) higher in the group I (59.56) than those of group II (51.73) and IV (55.91) but similar to group III (57.12). The molar proportion of propionate was significantly (p<0.01) higher in the monensin treated groups i.e. group II (38.38) and IV (36.26) than those of group I (27.78) and III (33.06). Butyrate molar percent was significantly (p<0.01) higher in group I (12.65) than those of group II (10.19), group III (9.83) and IV (7.84). The reduction of acetate and butyrate was due to UMMB and monensin resulted in lower A:P ratio. Average bacterial pool and bacterial production rate did not differ significantly among groups. Total N concentration (mg/100 ml SRL) was significantly (p<0.01) higher in the group I (55.30) and III (57.70) as compared to the group II (47.97) and IV (47.59). Ammonia-N concentration (mg/100 ml SRL) of group III (34.99) was significantly (p<0.01) higher than that of the group I (25.76) which was again significantly (p<0.01) higher than that of the group II (20.79) and IV (19.83) indicating slower release of ammonia due to monensin in diet. Total bacterial, cellulolytic, proteolytic bacterial and fungal count at 4 h post feeding did not differ significantly (p<0.05) among treatment groups. However, methanogenic bacterial count was significantly (p<0.01) higher in the group I (11.80) compared to the group II (8.43) which was significantly (p<0.01) higher than that of the group III (4.70) and IV (2.90). Average protozoal population was affected by both treatments. Thus feeding of UMMB and monensin in diet affected the rumen fermentation pattern towards propionate production, slower release of ammonia and reduction in methanogenic bacteria in the rumen.
Objective: The study was conducted to evaluate the effects of the absorbent (a mixture of activated carbon and hydrated sodium calcium aluminosilicate) on growth performance, blood profiles and hepatic genes expression in broilers fed diets naturally contaminated with aflatoxin. Methods: A total of 1,200 one-day-old male chicks were randomly assigned to 6 treatments with 10 replicate cages per treatment. The dietary treatments were as follows: i) control (basal diets); ii) 50% contaminated corn; iii) 100% contaminated corn; iv) control+1% adsorbent; v) 50% contaminated corn+1% absorbent; vi) 100% contaminated corn+1% absorbent. Results: During d 1 to 21, feeding contaminated diets reduced (p<0.05) body weight (BW), average daily gain (ADG), and average daily feed intake (ADFI), but increased (p<0.05) feed-to-gain ratio (F/G). The absorbent supplementation increased (p<0.05) BW, ADG, and ADFI. There were interactions (p<0.05) in BW, ADG, and ADFI between contaminated corn and absorbent. Overall, birds fed 100% contaminated diets had lower (p<0.05) final BW and ADG, but higher (p<0.05) F/G compared to those fed control diets. The absorbent addition increased (p<0.05) serum albumin concentration on d 14 and 28 and total protein (TP) level on d 28, decreased (p<0.05) alanine transaminase activity on d 14 and activities of aspartate aminotransferase and alkaline phosphatase on d 28. Feeding contaminated diets reduced (p<0.05) hepatic TP content on d 28 and 42. The contaminated diets upregulated (p<0.05) expression of interleukin-6, catalase (CAT), and superoxide dismutase (SOD), but downregulated (p<0.05) glutathione S-transferase (GST) expression in liver. The absorbent supplementation increased (p<0.05) interleukin-1β, CAT, SOD, cytochrome P450 1A1 and GST expression in liver. There were interactions (p<0.05) in the expression of hepatic CAT, SOD, and GST between contaminated corn and absorbent. Conclusion: The results suggest that the naturally aflatoxin-contaminated corn depressed growth performance, while the adsorbent could partially attenuate the adverse effects of aflatoxin on growth performance, blood profiles and hepatic genes expression in broilers.

This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics and antioxidant properties of cookies supplemented with 2~8% (w/w) Taraxacum coreanum powder (TCP). The pH and moisture content of cookie dough decreased significantly (P<0.05) while density was not influenced significantly by increasing levels of TCP. The spread ratio and loss rate of cookies increased significantly with increasing levels of TCP (P<0.05). Lightness, redness, and yellowness decreased significantly with higher amount of TCP (P<0.05). The use of TCP significantly increased hardness of cookies while 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl and 2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) radical scavenging activities were significantly elevated (P<0.05). The consumer acceptance test indicated that addition of 2% TCP had a favorable effect on consumer preferences in all attributes. Based on overall observations, cookies with 2% TCP can take advantage of the functional properties of TCP without sacrificing consumer acceptability.
To develop a new quality control method for the evaluation of Korean instant noodle soups, the chemical characteristics of roasted red pepper powder (RRP), mixed with lard were investigated while in storage at $65^{\circ}C$ for 6 weeks. The moisture contents of the RRP increased but the crude protein and crude lipid contents decreased up to 4 weeks of storage. The pH value decreased and the acid value increased steadily during storage. Both the American Spice Trade Association (ASTA) value that indicates redness of red pepper, and the CIE L, a, and b values decreased remarkably during storage. The fatty acids of the RRP oil were primarily oleic acid (33.4%), linoleic acid (30.8%), and palmitic acid (21.2%). The composition of fatty acids did not significantly change after 6 weeks of storage (p>0.05). Regarding the free fatty acid (FFA) composition of the RRP oil, palmitic acid (36.5%) was the principal component. The total amount of FFA and the amount of each individual FFA increased remarkably during storage. In addition, the ratio of free unsaturated fatty acids to free saturated fatty acids increased during storage.

This study was conducted to investigate the effect of duck skin on cooking loss, emulsion stability, pH, color, protein solubility, texture profile analysis (TPA), apparent viscosity, and sensory characteristics of press type duck ham with different ratio of duck breast meat and duck skin. Five duck ham formulations were produced with the following compositions: T1 (duck breast 70% + duck skin 30%), T2 (duck breast 60% + duck skin 40%), T3 (duck breast 50% + duck skin 50%), T4 (duck breast 40% + duck skin 60%), and T5 (duck breast 30% + duck skin 70%). The cooking loss and fat separation were lower in T1, and the total expressible fluid separations were lower in T1 and T2 than others. The pH ranged from 6.48 to 6.59, with the highest values in T4 and T5. T5 had the highest CIE $L^*$-value, and T1 and T2 had the highest CIE $a^*$-values; however, CIE $b^*$-values did not differ significantly between the duck ham samples. The protein solubility and TPA (hardness, springiness, cohesiveness, gumminess, and chewiness) were the highest in T1. T1 and T2 had higher scores for color, tenderness, and overall acceptability. T1, T2, and T3 showed significantly higher values, but there were no significant differences for flavor and juiciness. Regarding apparent viscosity properties, T1 and T2 had higher viscosity values than the other formulations. In conclusion, the T1 (duck breast 70% + duck skin 30%) and T2 (duck breast 60% + duck skin 40%) duck hams show the highest quality characteristics.
