Structure-activity relationships of the intramolecular disulfide bonds in coprisin, a defensin from the dung beetle

  • Defensins, which are small cationic molecules produced by organisms as part of their innate immune response, share a common structural scaffold that is stabilized by three disulfide bridges. Coprisin is a 43-amino acid defensin-like peptide from Copris tripartitus. Here, we report the intramolecular disulfide connectivity of cysteine-rich coprisin, and show that it is the same as in other insect defensins. The disulfide bond pairings of coprisin were determined by combining the enzymatic cleavage and mass analysis. We found that the loss of any single disulfide bond in coprisin eliminated all antibacterial, but not antifungal, activity. Circular dichroism (CD) analysis showed that two disulfide bonds, Cys20-Cys39 and Cys24-Cys41, stabilize coprisin's ${\alpha}$-helical region. Moreover, a BLAST search against UniProtKB database revealed that coprisin's ${\alpha}$-helical region is highly homologous to those of other insect defensins.

적은 오버랩에서 사용 가능한 3차원 점군 정합 방법 (A Modified Method for Registration of 3D Point Clouds with a Low Overlap Ratio)

  • 본 논문에서는 노이즈를 포함한 채 오버랩 영역이 적은 두 점군을 정합할 때 정확도와 수렴 속도를 향상시키는 알고리즘을 제시한다. 정확도를 높이기 위하여 점군의 기하학 정보를 최대한 활용하며, 정합 단계에서는 노이즈가 포함된 점군에서 오버랩 되는 영역을 적절히 선택하고, 개선된 가속 알고리즘을 사용하여 정합 속도를 향상시킨다. 정확도를 향상시키는 기존의 방법은 노이즈가 많은 점군에 적용할 수 없으므로, 본 논문에서는 정합에 사용되는 영역을 선택하는 것으로써 기존 방법의 문제를 해결하였다. 또한 똑같은 점군쌍에서만 적용되는 가속 알고리즘을 낮은 오버랩의 점군쌍에 적용하였다. 기존의 방법에 간단한 알고리즘을 추가함으로써 서너 배 더 빠른 수렴 속도를 낼 수 있도록 하였다. 결론적으로, 노이즈가 많고 오버랩이 적은 점군쌍의 정합에 있어서 본 논문에서 제시하는 알고리즘을 적용하면 속도와 정확도가 향상되었음을 알 수 있다.

miR-185 inhibits endoplasmic reticulum stress-induced apoptosis by targeting Na+/H+ exchanger-1 in the heart

  • Prolonged ER stress (ERS) can be associated with the induction of apoptotic cell death in various heart diseases. In this study, we searched for microRNAs affecting ERS in the heart using in silico and in vitro methods. We found that miR-185 directly targets the 3′-untranslated region of Na+/H+ exchanger-1 (NHE-1), a protein involved in ERS. Cardiomyocyte ERS-triggered apoptosis induced by 100 ng/ml tunicamycin (TM) or 1 μM thapsigargin (TG), ERS inducers, was significantly reduced by miR-185 overexpression. Protein expression of pro-apoptotic markers such as CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein homologous protein (CHOP) and cleaved-caspase-3 was also markedly reduced by miR-185 in a dose-dependent manner. Cariporide (20 μM), a pharmacological inhibitor of NHE-1, also attenuated ERS-induced apoptosis in cardiomyocytes and CHOP protein expression, suggesting that NHE-1 plays an important role in ERS-associated apoptosis in cardiomyocytes. Collectively, the present results demonstrate that miR-185 is involved in cardio-protection against ERS-mediated apoptotic cell death.

Fabrication of Nano Dot and Line Arrays Using NSOM Lithography

  • Using a cantilever type nanoprobe having a 100㎚m aperture at the apex of the pyramidal tip of a near-field scanning optical microscope (NSOM), nanopatterning of polymer films are conducted. Two different types of polymer, namely a positive photoresist (DPR-i5500) and an azopolymer (Poly disperse orange-3), spincoated on a silicon wafer are used as the substrate. A He-Cd laser with a wavelength of 442㎚ is employed as the illumination source. The optical near-field produced at the tip of the nanoprobe induces a photochemical reaction on the irradiated region, leading to the fabrication of nanostructures below the diffraction limit of the laser light. By controlling the process parameters properly, nanopatterns as small as 100㎚ are produced on both the photoresist and azopolymer samples. The shape and size variations of the nanopatterns are examined with respect to the key process parameters such as laser beam power, irradiation time or scanning speed of the probe, operation modes of the NSOM (DC and AC modes), etc. The characteristic features during the fabrication of ordered structures such as dot or line arrays using NSOM lithography are investigated. Not only the direct writing of nano array structures on the polymer films but also the fabrication of NSOM-written patterns on the silicon substrate were investigated by introducing a passivation layer over the silicon surface. Possible application of thereby developed NSOM lithography technology to the fabrication of data storage is discussed.

광주.전남지역의 주요 특산식품에 대한 연구 (A Study on Major Local Foods in Gwangju.Jeonam Area)

  • 광주광역시와 전라남도 음식문화 주요 식품 재료의 종류를 확인하기 위하여 각 시군의 특산물을 농산물, 수산물, 축산물, 기타로 구분하여 조사한 결과는 다음과 같다. 현재 광주광역시와 전라남도의 특산물 중 농산물 51종, 수산물 50종, 축산물 6종, 기타 특산물 17종으로 총 124종 선정되어 있었다. 이 지역의 특산물 중에서 쌀, 오이, 배, 멸치, 굴, 김, 느타리버섯, 표고버섯 등은 여러 지역에서 특산물로 선정되어 있었다. 무등산수박, 무화과, 연어, 숭어, 메기 등의 특산물은 이들의 생산에 적합한 지리적 조건을 가진 지역에서만 생산되고 있었다. 농산물 중 밤호박, 파프리카, 키위, 벨론 등은 최근에 이 지역에서 재배하기 시작하였다. 수산물, 버섯류, 산채류는 자연산은 감소하는 반면 양식이나 인공재배가 증가하고 있었으며, 농산물과 축산물의 브랜드화도 급속히 이루어지고 있었다. 이상의 결과에서 이 지역의 음식문화와 관련된 식재료의 수급과 선택 가능성에 영향을 주는 특산물의 종류와 생산량이 환경오염과 국토개발 등 자연환경의 변화, 소비자의 기호변화, 건강에 대한 관심의 증가, 재배기술의 발달, 수산양식의 발달, 새로운 품종의 도입 등 여러가지 요인에 의하여 변화되고 있었다. 즉, 이 지역에서 식재료로 이용될 수 있는 다양한 농수산물이 생산되고 있으며, 음식문화가 계속 변화되어 가고 있음을 간접적으로 확인할 수 있었다.

$\cdot$하악 대구치 부위에 식립된 임플란트의 생존율에 대한 후향적 연구 (Survival analysis of dental implants in maxillary and mandibular molar regions; A 4$\sim$5 year report)

  • Dental Implants have been proved to be successful prosthetic modality in edentulous patients for 10 years. However, there are few reports on the survival of implant according to location in molar regions. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the $4{\sim}5$ years' cumulative survival rate and the cause of failure of dental implants in different locations for maxillary and mandibular molars. Among the implants placed in molar regions in Gwangju Mir Dental Hospital from Jan. 2001 to Jun. 2002, 473 implants from 166 patients(age range; $26{\sim}75$) were followed and evaluated retrospectively for the causes of failure. We included 417 implants in 126 periodontally compromised patients, 56 implants in 40 periodontal healthy patients, and 205 maxillary and 268 mandibular molar implants. Implant survival rates by various subject factors, surgical factors, fixture factors, and prosthetic factors at each location were compared using Chi-square test and Kaplan-Meier cumulative survival analysis was done for follow-up(FU) periods. The overall failure rate at 5 years was 1O.2%(subject level) and 5.5%(implant level). The overall survival rates of implants during the FU periods were 94.5% with 91.3% in maxillary first molar, 91.1% in maxillary second molar, 99.2% in mandibular first molar and 94,8% in mandibular second molar regions. The survival rates differed significantly between both jaws and among different implant locations(p<0.05), whereas the survival rates of functionally loaded implants were similar in different locations. The survival rates were not different according to gender, age, previous periodontal status, surgery stage, bone graft type, or the prosthetic type. Veterans Hospital Medical Expenses Increase & Decrease Characteristics and Convergence Phenomenon-Focusing on the implications of the medical support system for national veterans-

  • As the average age of national veterans has increased from 69 years old(2011) to 71 years old(since 2015) over the past five years, the overall medical service cost of veterans has increased by about 20%. The main cause of this phenomenon is 'ultra-aging', which accounts for 67% of veterans, while the proportion of health insurance patients aged 70 or older is 9%. Therefore, it is judged that the analysis of the trend of use of medical services at veterans hospitals in each region that is in charge of severe medical services of national veterans can serve as an opportunity to seek countermeasures for the severe medical system of national veterans. First of all, based on the details of major medical expenses (hospitalization, outpatient, pharmaceutical expenses) by region for the last 10 years(2010-2019), data significance was performed through a chi-square test, and the Central Veterans Hospital and Non-Central Veterans Hospital using EXCEL. 'Expected frequency' was calculated by year. By applying the CHITEST(observation frequency, expected frequency) function again, the p-value(p<0.05) was calculated, and the profit bias of each region's veterans hospital could be determined. The specific research method is for the last 10 years(2010-2019) for state-sponsored patients_outpatient treatment income, state-sponsored patients_hospitalization income, exempt patients_outpatients at the Central Veterans Hospital, Busan Veterans Hospital, Gwangju Veterans Hospital, Daegu Veterans Hospital, and Daejeon Veterans Hospital. A one-way analysis of variance was conducted to verify the significance of the difference between group averages on the status of 5 medical revenues of veterans hospitals in each of the 5 regions, including medical treatment income, reduced patients_hospitalization income, and reduced patients_medicine expenses. It was found to be significant(p<0.05) at all levels, including region and type. Finally, the bias in the profit structure of regional veterans hospitals was the highest in 2017(p=0.0004) and the lowest in 2013(p=0.0349). In addition, in the profit structure of the Veterans Hospital, the year in which the'regional' variable worked the most was 2019, and the year with the least affected was 2010. The order of the former is Jungang(=31,674,713), Busan(=12,314,614), Gwangju(=11,957,038), Daegu(=10,168,015), and Daejeon(=6,991,034), and the order of the latter is Jungang(=57,868,791), and Busan(=19,183,194). Gwangju(=17,904,712), Daegu(=15,656,034), and Daejeon(=14,377,395). In conclusion, the profit bias of veterans hospitals repeatedly raced the lowest(p=0.01986) and highest(p=0.03499) for the past five years(2010-2014) year by year, with the 'regional' variable being the most in the veterans hospital's profit structure It was identified as a major influence factor. On the other hand, for the last 5 years (2015-2019), the influence factors of the'regional' variable every year were in 2015(p=0.02015), 2016(p=0.01741), 2017(p=0.00045), and 2018(p=0.00394). in 2019(p=0.00227), a significant difference was confirmed at a very low level.

광산업체 입지와 사업네트워크 특성으로 본 광산업의 지역적 성장에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Regional Characteristics of the Photonics Industry's Growth: Based on the location and business network of photonics firms)

  • 본 연구는 신산업으로서 광산업(photonics industry)과 광주 광산업 집적지의 성장에 관심을 두고 국내 광산업 성장의 지역적 특성을 탐구하였다. 연구를 위해 광산업 성장의 행위주체 기반이 되는 광산업체와의 심층면담을 토대로 광산 업체의 입지와 사업네트워크를 살펴보았다. 이를 통해 신산업인 광산업의 성장과 함께 광산업을 전략산업으로 육성하고자 하는 지역산업육성정책의 의미를 되짚어보고자 했다. 연구 결과, 시장과 정책의 이점으로 대비되는 수도권과 광주에서 광산업의 차별적 성장을 관찰할 수 있었다. 광산업을 육성하려는 광주의 지역산업육성정책은 다양한 지역주체들의 공감대 형성, 산업발전의 원천이 될 모멘텀과 다양성 부여의 측면에서 의미를 갖는다고 보겠다.

  • This study shed light on the status of Korean Kimchi industry in overseas markets and presented methods for promoting Kimchi industry of Gwangju Jeonnam metropolitan city and stimulating the export of Kimchi produced in Gwangju Jeonnam, a city that has come to the fore as the center of Kimchi industry, which aimed to explore the ways of ratcheting up competitiveness of Kimchi industry in the global market as Kimchi has become more likely to be globalized amid the recent "Korea Trend" boom and the growing consumption of fermented food. Therefore, methods for promoting Kimchi industry and stimulating the export of Kimchi should be explored to ensure the promotion of Kimchi industry and the stimulation of the export of Kimchi, ultimately restoring the status of Korea as the home of Kimchi, in consideration of the great spillover effect on the regional economy, through a series of measures such as the clusterization of Kimchi industry, expansion of cultural experience projects related to Kimchi for the globalization and the increased consumption of Kimchi, government support to increase Kimchi companies in size and achieve the modernization of Kimchi companies, introduction of Kimchi KS audit system and quality certification system, development of new product targeting global market and making Kimchi a high-end product, expansion of export, support of export market diversification, assurance of safety and price competitiveness of Kimchi, differentiated production and marketing strategy by means of technological research, and others.

  • In the 21st Century, our society is facing decrease of general population and beginning of aging society due to low birth rate, and such issues are increasing the elderly population. Especially in Korea, the elderly population exceeded 7% of the total population in 2000, making its way to the aging society and the elderly population will increase up to 14% by 2019, becoming the true aging society. Unlike other countries, aging in Korea is happening very fast and this requires the society's preparation and plans to deal with the problem. This study was started with the problem that the welfare centers for elderly people in Gwangju do not have the space plan adequate for the regional characteristics and users' demands. Therefore, this study performed an investigation and analysis on service programs, management, and space formation of S welfare centers for elderly people in Gwangju. This study produced a figure after interviews with social welfare workers and surveys. And then this study investigated size and formation of space for the service programs in each welfare center This study showed the current status of welfare centers for elderly people and difference in size and formation of space related to the service programs of the region. Therefore, this study was done to provide the basic data for the space formation of new welfare centers.
