광주광역시 지역암등록 시행 5년간의 암 발생과 질적평가에 대한 연구 (A Study on the Incidence of Cancer and Evaluating the Quality of the Community-based Cancer Registry in Gwangju Metropolitan City during the First Five Years of Implementation (1998-2002))

  • Objectives: This study is conducted to identify the cancer incidence in Gwangju during the 5-year period from 1998 to 2002 and to assess the completeness and validity of the cancer registry data during this time period. Methods: All cases that had a diagnosis of invasive cancer (ICD-10 sites C00-C97) during the study period were retrieved from the records of the Gwangju Cancer Registry (GCR), which theoretically includes all the cancer cases in Gwangju. All the cases during the study period were analyzed by gender, age group and cancer sites. The completeness (mortality/incidence ratio and age-specific incidence curve) and validity (histologic verification, primary site unknown, age unknown and death certificate only) of the cancer registry in Gwangju were analyzed by gender, age group and cancer sites for the 5-year period. Results: The overall cancer incidence was higher in the males than in the females (age-standardized incidence rates (ASR) 299.8 and 172.4 per 100,000, respectively). In males, the most common cancer was stomach (ASR: 65.8), followed by liver (ASR: 50.5), bronchus and lung (ASR: 50.5), colo-rectum (ASR: 26.7), oesophagus (ASR: 10.6), and bladder (ASR: 10.3) in descending order. In females, the most common cancer was stomach (ASR: 26.8), followed by thyroid (ASR: 20.7), breast (ASR: 20.4), cervix uteri (ASR: 14.3), bronchus and lung (ASR: 13.0), liver (ASR: 10.7) and colo-rectum (ASR: 17.2) in descending order. The overall quality (completeness and validity) of the cancer registry was at the in 'good' level. Conclusions: These results will be useful in the overall context of planning and evaluating of cancer control activities in Gwangju.

  • 이 연구는 아주 최근에 새롭게 제기된 세계도시지역론을 고찰하고 이에 기초하여 한국의 지역발전 정책을 위한 함의를 제안하고 있다. 세계의 주요한 거대도시지역으로. 이루어진 정치ㆍ경제적 조직체 또는 다중심적 구조를 지닌 새로운 규모의 도시조직으로 정의되는 세계도시지역은 세계경제의 역동적인 성장뿐만 아니라 지역발전도 동시에 유발함으로써 세계화시대에서 대안적인 신지역주기 발전모델로 평가된다. 한국에서 세계도시지역모델의 정책적 적용은 특히, 비수도권의 거대도시지역의 세계적 경쟁력 강화와 수도권과 비수도권 간의 극심한 지역격차를 완화하기 위해서 필요시 된다. 그러나 부산, 대구, 광주, 대전 등의 비수도권의 광역시가 세계도시지역으로 발전하기 위해서는 시ㆍ도 통합과 지방분권과 같은 제도개혁이 선행되지 않으면 안 된다.

무등산 도립공원의 지질과 경관 (Geology and Landscape of Mt. Mudeung Province Park, Korea)

  • 무등산은 광주광역시, 담양, 화순에 걸쳐있으며, 형상이 둥글고 부드러워 넉넉한 느낌을 갖게 해준다. 무등산은 동경 $126^{\circ}06'-127^{\circ}01'$, 북위 $35^{\circ}06'-35^{\circ}10'$에 위치하며, 최고봉인 천왕봉의 높이는 1,187 m이다. 무등산 서측은 광주광역시가 자리하는 평야지대이며, 동측은 좁은 분지를 가진 산악지대이다. 무등산 북쪽의 하천을 따라, 소쇄원, 송강정, 식영정 등의 유명한 정자들이 분포한다. 무등산은 중생대 백악기에 형성된 광주함몰대의 화산활동으로 형성되었다. 무등산의 정상부는 암회색을 띠는 석영안산암이 분포하며, 주상절리를 이루는 이 암석의 K-Ar 전암연령은 $48.1{\pm}1.7Ma$이다. 북측의 원효사 부근은 미문상화강암이, 남서측은 유문암이 분포하여 풍화양상이 매우 다르다. 무등산의 주능선은 남북방향으로 북봉에서 천왕봉, 장불재를 거쳐 안양산으로 이어진다. 무등산의 지형은 크게 화산지형, 산지지형, 하천지형으로 나눌 수 있다. 주능선을 이루는 서석대, 입석대, 규봉암은 화산지형인 주상절리이며, 남서부의 새인봉과 마집봉에는 산지지형인 암석단애와 암석돔(새인봉), 판상절리가 발달한다. 무등산에는 산지지형 중 침식지형에 해당하는 세 가지 형태의 풍화동굴이 발달하는데, 이들은 각각 원암의 특성을 반영한다. 무등산에 넓게 발달한 네 지역의 너덜은 산지지형인 퇴적지형에 속한다. 무등산은 암괴류의 발달로 폭포의 발달은 미약하나, 용천이 잘 발달하고 있다.

광주시 대기오염물질 배출량 변화추이에 관한 연구 (A study on the air pollutant emission trends in Gwangju)

  • We conclude the following with air pollution data measured from city measurement net administered and managed in Gwangju for the last 7 years from January in 2001 to December in 2007. In addition, some major statistics governed by Gwangju city and data administered by Gwangju as national official statistics obtained by estimating the amount of national air pollutant emission from National Institute of Environmental Research were used. The results are as follows ; 1. The distribution by main managements of air emission factory is the following ; Gwangju City Hall(67.8%) > Gwangsan District Office(13.6%) > Buk District Office(9.8%) > Seo District Office(5.5%) > Nam District Office(3.0%) > Dong District Office(0.3%) and the distribution by districts of air emission factory ; Buk District(32.8%) > Gwangsan District(22.4%) > Seo District(21.8%) > Nam District(14.9%) > Dong District(8.1%). That by types(Year 2004~2007 average) is also following ; Type 5(45.2%) > Type 4(40.7%) > Type 3(8.6%) > Type 2(3.2%) > Type 1(2.2%) and the most of them are small size of factory, Type 4 and 5. 2. The distribution by districts of the number of car registrations is the following ; Buk District(32.8%) > Gwangsan District(22.4%) > Seo District(21.8%) > Nam District(14.9%) > Dong District(8.1%) and the distribution by use of car fuel in 2001 ; Gasoline(56.3%) > Diesel(30.3%) > LPG(13.4%) > etc.(0.2%). In 2007, there was no ranking change ; Gasoline(47.8%) > Diesel(35.6%) > LPG(16.2%) >etc.(0.4%). The number of gasoline cars increased slightly, but that of diesel and LPG cars increased remarkably. 3. The distribution by items of the amount of air pollutant emission in Gwangju is the following; CO(36.7%) > NOx(32.7%) > VOC(26.7%) > SOx(2.3%) > PM-10(1.5%). The amount of CO and NOx, which are generally generated from cars, is very large percentage among them. 4. The distribution by mean of air pollutant emission(SOx, NOx, CO, VOC, PM-10) of each county for 5 years(2001~2005) is the following ; Buk District(31.0%) > Gwangsan District(28.2%) > Seo District(20.4%) > Nam District(12.5%) > Dong District(7.9%). The amount of air pollutant emission in Buk District, which has the most population, car registrations, and air pollutant emission businesses, was the highest. On the other hand, that of air pollutant emission in Dong District, which has the least population, car registrations, and air pollutant emission businesses, was the least. 5. The average rates of SOx for 5 years(2001~2005) in Gwangju is the following ; Non industrial combustion(59.5%) > Combustion in manufacturing industry(20.4%) > Road transportation(11.4%) > Non-road transportation(3.8%) > Waste disposal(3.7%) > Production process(1.1%). And the distribution of average amount of SOx emission of each county is shown as Gwangsan District(33.3%) > Buk District(28.0%) > Seo District(19.3%) > Nam District(10.2%) > Dong District(9.1%). 6. The distribution of the amount of NOx emission in Gwangju is shown as Road transportation(59.1%) > Non-road transportation(18.9%) > Non industrial combustion(13.3%) > Combustion in manufacturing industry(6.9%) > Waste disposal(1.6%) > Production process(0.1%). And the distribution of the amount of NOx emission from each county is the following ; Buk District(30.7%) > Gwangsan District(28.8%) > Seo District(20.5%) > Nam District(12.2%) > Dong District(7.8%). 7. The distribution of the amount of carbon monoxide emission in Gwangju is shown as Road transportation(82.0%) > Non industrial combustion(10.6%) > Non-road transportation(5.4%) > Combustion in manufacturing industry(1.7%) > Waste disposal(0.3%). And the distribution of the amount of carbon monoxide emission from each county is the following ; Buk District(33.0%) > Seo District(22.3%) > Gwangsan District(21.3%) > Nam District(14.3%) > Dong District(9.1%). 8. The distribution of the amount of Volatile Organic Compound emission in Gwangju is shown as Solvent utilization(69.5%) > Road transportation(19.8%) > Energy storage & transport(4.4%) > Non-road transportation(2.8%) > Waste disposal(2.4%) > Non industrial combustion(0.5%) > Production process(0.4%) > Combustion in manufacturing industry(0.3%). And the distribution of the amount of Volatile Organic Compound emission from each county is the following ; Gwangsan District(36.8%) > Buk District(28.7%) > Seo District(17.8%) > Nam District(10.4%) > Dong District(6.3%). 9. The distribution of the amount of minute dust emission in Gwangju is shown as Road transportation(76.7%) > Non-road transportation(16.3%) > Non industrial combustion(6.1%) > Combustion in manufacturing industry(0.7%) > Waste disposal(0.2%) > Production process(0.1%). And the distribution of the amount of minute dust emission from each county is the following ; Buk District(32.8%) > Gwangsan District(26.0%) > Seo District(19.5%) > Nam District(13.2%) > Dong District(8.5%). 10. According to the major source of emission of each items, that of oxides of sulfur is Non industrial combustion, heating of residence, business and agriculture and stockbreeding. And that of NOx, carbon monoxide, minute dust is Road transportation, emission of cars and two-wheeled vehicles. Also, that of VOC is Solvent utilization emission facilities due to Solvent utilization. 11. The concentration of sulfurous acid gas has been 0.004ppm since 2001 and there has not been no concentration change year by year. It is considered that the use of sulfurous acid gas is now reaching to the stabilization stage. This is found by the facts that the use of fuel is steadily changing from solid or liquid fuel to low sulfur liquid fuel containing very little amount of sulfur element or gas, so that nearly no change in concentration has been shown regularly. 12. Concerning changes of the concentration of throughout time, the concentration of NO has been shown relatively higher than that of $NO_2$ between 6AM~1PM and the concentration of $NO_2$ higher during the other time. The concentration of NOx(NO, $NO_2$) has been relatively high during weekday evenings. This result shows that there is correlation between the concentration of NOx and car traffics as we can see the Road transportation which accounts for 59.1% among the amount of NOx emission. 13. 49.1~61.2% of PM-10 shows PM-2.5 concerning the relationship between PM-10 and PM-2.5 and PM-2.5 among dust accounts for 45.4%~44.5% of PM-10 during March and April which is the lowest rates. This proves that particles of yellow sand that are bigger than the size $2.5\;{\mu}m$ are sent more than those that are smaller from China. This result shows that particles smaller than $2.5\;{\mu}m$ among dust exist much during July~August and December~January and 76.7% of minute dust is proved to be road transportation in Gwangju.

라빌레뜨 이후 현대건축에서 나타난 폴리 프로젝트 사례 연구 (A Study on the Cases of Folly Project in the Contemporary Architecture After Parc de la Villette)

  • This study evaluated how folly is experimented in the contemporary architecture after 30 years when Bernard Tchumi first introduced it to the public by the modern transformation as a garden ornament. First, folly project has been carried out based on the general concept of energizing dwindling cities. However, it has changed to the direction of adding specific programs. Also, along urban regeneration that does not change deterioration of previous structures, Folly changed in the emphasis on readjust existing structure. Second, by having different designers presenting their own follies during the Osaka Expo, folly now has part on visual exhibition element. This has similarity with public art project, yet it could more actively intervene for urban regeneration compared to conventional environment sculpture. Third, folly is experimented as the event-installation art combined form of architecture and art where people could experience the space and enjoy art. Fourth, folly enabled the landscaping of architecture and expanding city planning. Recently Gwangju Folly invited various arts, social, and cultural professionals to converge city design with architecture, landscaping, and other diverse genres.

일부지역의 구급차 안전사고에 영향을 주는 요인 분석 (A Study on Behavioral Factors for the Safety of Ambulance Driving by Coefficiecial Structural Analysis - focus on Gwangju Metropolitan City-)

  • This is a study to evaluate the effects of the safety of ambulance driving and the occurrence of ambulance traffic accidents and to provide basic information for the description of various factors to reduce the ambulance traffic accidents. The major instruments of this study were Korean Self-Analysis Driver Opinionnaire. Questionnaire contains 8 items which measure driver's opinions or attitudees: driving courtesy, emotion, traffic law, speed, vehicle condition, the use of drugs, high-risk behavior, human factor. To take the analysis of data, the total of 187 drivers were investigated ambulance drivers in Gwangju Metropolitan City from 2002. 1. September to 2002. 20. September. The data were analyzed by the path analysis SPSS program. The result are as follows : 1. There was desirable attitude group(58.4%) and undesirable attitude group(41.7%) on safety ambulance driving. 2. It have suggested that rist factors of ambulance traffic accident much affected with emotion and speed control on safety ambulance driving(Y(Accident) = -2.00 + 0.6 X1(Emotion Control) + 0.4 $X_2$(Speed control) + E). 3. Almost 92.1% of respondents have agreed to necessity of emergency medical technics for ambulance drivers.

도심재생계획 평가요인 도출에 관한 연구 -광주광역시의 설문조사내용을 중심으로- (A Study on the Derivation of Valuation Factor in Urban Regeneration Plan -Focused on he Questionnaire of Gwangju Metropolitan City-)

  • The purpose of this study is to derive and adapt the Valuation Factor of urban regeneration scientifically and synthetically, which is the basis of developing a rational plan for urban revitalization. For this, we have selected 37 factors relating to urban regeneration as outlined in preceding studies and inquiry about importance of factors. we analysed he Valuation factors influencing he importance of urban revitalization through a questionnaire which was completed by inhabitants and expert groups in Gwangju Metropolitan City. From he results of he Factor analysis using SPSSWIN(VER.14.0), it was found that the factors which influence the importance of urban regeneration are Environment, Function, Resources and Policy Factors. Environment Factor comprises amenity, culture, beauty and convenience, The while the Function Factor comprises interchange, information, complexity and security. This classification has credibility because of the high factor loading through the Varimax Factor Analysis and is due to a high Cronbach's coefficient. There is a strong correlation between the classified factors through correlation analysis. Finally, through AMOS (Analysis of Moment Structure) 16.0 it was found that the upper classification is credible because main suitability index confirms recommending an admission standard.

Occurrence of Clubroot on Pak-Choi Caused by Plasmodiophora brassicae

  • Clubroot symptoms occurred severely on roots of Pak-Choi (Brassica campestris ssp. chinensis) grown in greenhouses in Gwangju city, Gyeonggi province, Korea in September, 2008. The incidence of the disease symptoms reached as high as 90% in three greenhouses investigated. The root galls collected from the greenhouses were sectioned using a scalpel and observed by light microscope. Many resting spores were found in the cells of the root gall tissues. Suspension of resting spores was prepared from the root galls and inoculated to roots of healthy Pak-Choi plants. Each of five resting spore suspensions caused clubroot symptoms on the roots, which were similar to those observed during the greenhouse survey. Resting spores of the pathogen were observed in the cells of the affected roots. The clubroot pathogen was identified as Plasmodiophora brassicae based on its morphological and pathological characteristics. This is the first report that Plasmodiophora brassicae causes clubroot of Pak-Choi.

한국 주요도시의 폭염에 대한 기후 순응도 특성 (Characteristics of Heat Acclimatization for Major Korean Cities)

  • Vulnerability to heat was examined for populations of 6 major cities in South Korea (Seoul, Incheon, Daejeon, Gwangju, Daegu, and Busan). Daily excess mortality and maximum temperature from 1991 to 2005 were employed in this study. The results show that the standardized mortality increase associated with a $1^{\circ}C$ increase in daily maximum temperature above the city-specific threshold explains the heat acclimatization effect better than the threshold temperature itself. The estimated increase in mortality (standardized per 10 million population) associated with a $1^{\circ}C$ increase in temperature above the threshold is 4.8 in Incheon, 4.7 in Seoul, 4.3 in Daejeon, 2.8 in Gwangju, 2.4 in Daegu, and 1.5 in Busan, well reflecting the latitudinal locations and local climates of each city. Climate models project more frequent, more intense, and longer lasting heat waves in most land areas in both hemispheres in the 21st century under increasing greenhouse gas concentrations. In order to mitigate the adverse human health impacts due to excess heat, more detailed characteristics of acclimatization to heat need to be understood and quantified.

지방자치단체 민원실의 유니버설디자인에 대한 이용자 만족도 조사연구 - 광주광역시 구청사를 중심으로 - (User's Satisfaction with Universal Design in Local Government's Public Service Center - Focusing on Public Service Centers in Gwangju Metropolitan City -)

  • The purpose of the study was to identify user' satisfaction about universal design in public service center that will be needed for helping planning and design the public service center. This study conducted a questionnaire survey targeting visitor in five district's public service center in Gwangju metropolitan city. A total of 253 responses were analyzed for identifying the level of satisfaction about universal design in public service center. The study also analyzed of the respondents depending on their demographic characteristics. The features of universal design were categorized into supportive design, communicability, safety-oriented design and accessible design, and total 25 specific items were included in the evaluation. Most of the respondents were satisfied with the waiting space, however they showed a lower level of satisfaction toward the information materials space. Those with a higher education attainment tended to be associated with stronger satisfaction with common space and information materials space. Groups with a lower age were more likely to be satisfied with common space and public service space. Also female tended to show a stronger degree of satisfaction with common space than male. The findings from this study should provide a guideline for planning and design the public service center.
