  • Guillain-Barre syndrome, or acute inflammatory polyneuritis, is a disorder in which the body's immune system attacks parts of the peripheral nervous system. The causes and mechanisms of this syndrome are unknown. Typically, Guillain-Barre syndrome can be diagnosed from the patient's symptoms and physical examination such as the rapid onset of weakness, paralysis and loss of reflexes. The analysis of CSF and electrical tests on nerve and muscle function can be performed to confirm the diagnosis. Most cases occur shortly after a viral infection. This is a clinical report about one patient suspected as having Guillain-Barre syndrome. The patient, a 62-year-old man had weakness in both legs after gastroduodenal disease. His weakness and general condition improved after Korean medical treatments, so this is reported as a potential treatment.

  • Guillain-Barre Syndrome is a disorder caused by nerve inflammation. The inflammation damages portions of the nerve cells, resulting in pain, numbness, muscle weakness or paralysis and sensory loss. The damage can also leads to denervation (killing the axon part of the nerve cell), which stops nerve function entirely. Without the axon, messages cannot be transferred from one nerve cell to another, but the causes and mechanism of this syndrome are unknown. This is a clinical report about two patients diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome. The patients, a 54-year-old woman and a 37-years-old man, had pain, and weakness in both legs and arms. After about 4 weeks of Korean medicine and acupuncture treatment, most of their symptoms improved. Therefore, Korean traditional therapy has potential for treatment of Guillain-Barre Syndrome.

  • Objective: The present study reports on one patient diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome.Method: One patient was treated by Sukjiyanggeun-tang, electroacupuncture, and physical therapy. Any improvement in symptoms was assessed by measuring changes in motor grade; scores in the modified Barthel index, the disability scale, and the numerical rating scale (NRS) of lower back pain; and ambulatory condition during hospitalization. Results: After 48 days of treatment, the patient's symptoms of Guillain-Barre syndrome showed improvement. Conclusions: Traditional Korean medical treatment appeared to be effective in reducing Guillain-Barre syndrome symptoms, but more research is required to confirm these results.

It is characterized by the rapid onset of weakness, paralysis of the legs, arms, breathing muscles and face. But the analysis of CSF and electrical tests on nerve and muscle function can be performed to confirm the diagnosis. Most cases occur shortly after a viral infection. This is a clinical ease report on Cuillain-Barre Syndrome with diplopia. The patient, a 52-year-old man had a weakness in both legs and diplopia. His weakness and diplopia improved after oriental medical treatment, so this is reported as a potential treatment. Objective: This study was designed to evaluate the effects on oriental medicine therapy on Guillain-Barre Syndrome with diplopia. Methods & Result: The Clinical data was analyzed on a patient with Cuillain-Barre Syndrome whose main symptoms were diplopia. The patient was treated by acupuncture and oriental medicine. As a result, symptoms was improved remarkably. Conclusion: The patient showed weakness and diplopia. • Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) is a group of autoimmune syndromes consisting of demyelinating and acute axonal degenerating forms of the disease. Typically, Gullain-Barre syndrome can be diagnosed from the patient's symptoms and physical examination such as the rapid onset of weakness, paralysis and loss of reflexes. In most patients, resolution is complete or near complete. Treatment consists of supportive care, ventilatory management (in about one third of patients), and specific therapy with intravenous immunoglobulin or plasmapheresis. This clinical report is about suspected acute severe Guillain-Barre syndrome patient, 61-year-old man had quadriplegia, facial palsy, dysphasia, respiratory failure. After 5 weeks of East-West integrative medicine therapy - Conventional Conservative therapy(plasmaphresis and intravenous immunoglobulin) and Korean traditional medicine(Sasang medicine and acupuncture treatment) - most symptoms improved.

  • Objective: This case study reports improvement in a case of Guillain-Barre Syndrome by Korean medicine treatment in a patient with quadriplegia and anorexia. Methods: A 79-year-old woman diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome was treated with acupuncture, electroacupuncture, Bojungikgi-tang-gami, cupping, moxibustion, and rehabilitation. Her clinical symptoms were measured with the Manual Muscle Test (MMT), Modified Barthel Index (MBI), Functional Independence Measurement (FIM), and the EuroQol five-dimensional descriptive system (EQ-5D-5L). Results: After treatment, improvements in the MMT, MBI, FIM, and EQ-5D-5L were observed and her anorexia decreased. Conclusion: Korean medicine treatment appeared to be effective in the treatment of a patient with Guillain-Barre Syndrome with quadriplegia and anorexia.
