Plants are grown under constitutive changing of environmental conditions and response to external conditions at both protein and transcription level. The effects of heat on plant growth are broad and influence the yield directly. Heat stresses could be classified depend on intensity and duration. Fundamental changes of growth condition by climate change maybe or maybe not classified as a stress on plant growth. The effects of a short and unanticipated impact of elevated heat on plant could be different with those of under longer extension of ambient heat. To examine differently expressed gene sets by ambient heat stress of soybean, we grow the soybean in normal condition for three weeks. After that, soybean plants move to growth chamber. The temperature of growth chamber increase up to $9^{\circ}C$ for four days. We have extracted mRNA and micro RNA every 24 hours and carried RNA sequence analysis. We found major metabolic pathways affected by ambient heat stress. Mainly carbon metabolism, translation machinery and amino acid synthesis are affected. We discussed the expression patterns of genes of heat sensing and hormone responses.
The age and growth of the Pacific cod, Gadus macrocephalus were investigated using left sagittal otoliths of 682 individuals collected in the West Sea of Korea from January to December 2007. The seasonal changes in the ratio of an opaque zone to interval between annular rings revealed that the narrow translucent parts of the otolith were annual growth rings formed between February and March once a year. The spawning period was December to January and therefore the duration from fertilization to the complete formation of the opaque zone became thirteen months. From the parameters calculated using the average length when the year ring was formed, the estimated von Bertalanffy growth equations were $L_t=100.0(1-e^{-0.1640(t+0.5247)})$ for females and $L_t=64.6(1-e^{-0.3335 (t+0.3342)})$ for males when is total length in age t.
To predict the pubertal growth peak in stature and study the skeletal maturity degree using hand-wrist radiograph, the author used the 70 malocclusions (male 24, female 46). After longitudinal measurement of stature and skeletal maturity indicators of hand-wrist radiographs were taken during 4 years, the rsults were as follows. 1) The pubertal growth peak in stature occurred mainly at SMI 6-7 (56.5%) in female, SMI 5-6 (37.5%), 6-7 (37.5%) in male (Table 5). 2) It was suggested that the pubertal growth peak in stature was already passed, if SMI 8 occurred. 3) Ages of SMI in female were about 2 years earlier than those of SMI in male, and the sexual difference was gradually decreased in puberty. 4) Duration of SMI was longest at SMI 6-7 in both sex and the mean was 8.5 months. After this stage, the velocity of skeletal maturity in female was decreased than in male. 5) The correlation coefficient between each SMI and pubertal growth peak was very high (Table 8).
Estimating the high tuber solids needs a simulation system on potato growth, and its development should be obtained by using agricultural elements which analyze the relationship between crop growth and agricultural factors. An accurate simulation to predict solids level against climatic change employs a calculation of in vivo energy consumption and bias for growth and induction shape in a slight environmental adaptation. So, to calculate in vivo energy consumption, this study took a concept of estimate of the amount of basal metabolism in each tuber. In the validation experiments, the results of measuring solid accumulation of potatoes harvested at dates suggested by simulation agreed with the actual measured values in each regional field during the growth period of years from 2006 till 2010. The mean values of tuber solids level and inter-annual level variation in validation experiments were predicted well by the simulation model. And also, the results of validation experiments represent that concentration of tuber solids were due mainly to the duration of sunshine, above 190 hours per a month, and the cumulative amount of radiation, above 2,200 $MJ{\cdot}m^{-2}$, of the effective growth period.
Eisenia bicyclis, a perennial macroalga is a primary producer of in the ocean, It has been identified as a key species that plays a vital role in maintaining the ecosystem stability. Also, it is an important target in marine afforestation projects and useful marine organisms. In addition, E. bicyclis is used as a health food for humans. This study investigated the effect of water temperature, light (photon irradiance), and duration of light (photoperiod) on the growth of gametophytes and young sporophytes of E. bicyclis. The germination and growth of the zoospores of E. bicyclis were examined at five temperatures (5℃, 10℃, 15℃, 20℃ and 25℃), four intensities of photon irradiance (10, 20, 40, and 80 μmol m-2s-1), and photoperiods (14:10 and 10:14 light/dark cycles). The zoospores released from mature plant germinated into the gametophytes under all experimental conditions. The gametophytes were able to grow at water temperature 5℃-25℃ and mature at 10℃-20℃. The optimal range of water temperature for the maturation of the gametophyte was 15℃-20℃. At 25℃, E. bicyclis gametophytes grew rapidly but did not mature. The optimal culture conditions for the growth of young sporophytes grew slowly in low temperature and photon irradiances.
This study was performed to provide fundamental data on hygiene and quality control of ready-to-eat sandwiches. Predictive models were developed to the kinetics of Staphylococcus aureus growth in these sandwiches as a function of temperature (10, 15, 25, and 35℃). The result of the primary model that used the Gompertz equation showed that the lag phase duration (LPD) and generation time (GT) decreased and the exponential growth rate (EGR) increased with increasing storage temperature. The secondary model showed an R2 for M and B of 0.9967 and 09916, respectively. A predictive growth model of the growth degree as a function of temperature was developed. L(t)=A+Cexp(-exp(-B(t-M))) (A=Initial contamination level, C=MPD-A, B=0.473166-0.045040*Temp-0.001718*Temp*Temp, M=19.924824-0.627442*Temp-0.004493*Temp*Temp, t=time, Temp=temperature). This model showed an R2 value of 0.9288. All the models developed in this study showed a good fit.
As a preliminary study to produce functional nanocomposites in a heat dissipation device, we performed the direct synthesis of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the surface of alumina (Al2O3) powders. A thermal chemical vapor deposition (TCVD) system was used to grow CNTs directly on the Al2O3 surface. In order to investigate the growth behavior of CNTs, we varied both furnace temperature of the TCVD ranging from 700 to 850 ℃ and concentration of the ferritin-dissolved DI solution from 0.1 to 2.0 mg/mL. From the previous results, the gas composition and duration time for CNT growth were fixed as C2H4 : H2 = 30 : 500 (vol. %) and 10 min, respectively. Based on the analysis results, the optimized growth temperature and ferritin concentration were found to be 825 ℃ and 0.5 mg/mL, respectively. The obtained results could be adopted to achieve mass production of nanocomposites with heat dissipation functionality.
The volatilization of alkali ions in (K,Na)NbO3 (KNN) ceramics was inhibited by doping them with alkaline earth metal ions. In addition, the grain growth behavior changed significantly as the sintering duration (ts) increased. At 1,100 ℃, the volatilization of alkali ions in KNN ceramics was more suppressed when doped with alkaline earth metal ions with smaller ionic size. A Ca2+-doped KNN specimen with the least alkali ion volatilization exhibited a microstructure in which grain growth was completely suppressed, even under long-term sintering for ts = 30 h. The grain growth in Sr2+-doped and Ba2+-doped KNN specimens was suppressed until ts = 10 h. However, at ts = 30 h, a heterogeneous microstructure with abnormal grains and small-sized matrix grains was observed. The size and number of abnormal grains and size distribution of matrix grains were considerably different between the Sr2+-doped and Ba2+-doped specimens. This microstructural diversity in KNN ceramics could be explained in terms of the crystal growth driving force required for two-dimensional nucleation, which was directly related to the number of vacancies in the material.
