  • Head of Panax ginseng C. A. Meyer indicates its growth number of years and has been widely used for supplying energy to weaklings or used as vomit. Butanol fraction of Panax ginseng head was significantly effective on gastritis and ulcer models in rats. and also had anti-oxidative properties in the previous study. It has been well established that gastric ulcer is induced by imbalance between aggressive factors and protective factors. and the oxidative reaction makes the lesions on gastric mucosal injury severer. • Kawasaki disease (KD) is an acute systemic vasculitis that predominantly affects children, and can result in coronary artery lesions (CAL). A patient with KD who is resistant to treatment with intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) has a higher risk of developing CAL. Incomplete KD has increased in prevalence in recent years, and is another risk factor for the development of CAL. Although the pathogenesis of KD remains unclear, there has been increasing evidence for the role of genetic susceptibility to the disease since it was discovered in 1967. We retrospectively reviewed previous genetic research for known susceptibility genes in the pathogenesis of KD, IVIG resistance, and the development of CAL. This review revealed numerous potential susceptibility genes including genetic polymorphisms of ITPKC, CASP3, the transforming growth factor-${\beta}$ signaling pathway, B lymphoid tyrosine kinase, FCGR2A, KCNN2, and other genes, an imbalance of Th17/Treg, and a range of suggested future treatment options. The results of genetic research may improve our understanding of the pathogenesis of KD, and aid in the discovery of new treatment modalities for high-risk patients with KD.

  • Climate changes from global warming and reduction in agricultural land result in volatility of prices of agricultural products, causing a imbalance of food market in Korea. It is necessary to develop a transnational food industry cooperation system among Korea, China and Russia that directly or indirectly affect food industry in terms of the whole industrial network. This study analyzes the value chain and linkage in the agriculture, forestry and fisheries industries in three nations. The unit structure and the industrial patterns of three nations were derived using the World Input-output Table (WIOT) from 2004 to 2014 every five years. This paper is expected to contribute to develop food security cooperation in the northern part of the Korean peninsula and to promote the mutual growth of food industry through industry linkage and cooperation.

  • Fallow paddy has been increased in disadvantageous farming condition area because of importation of foreign agricultural products, labor cost and the imbalance between farming cost and agricultural products price since 1990. The fallow paddy that has gradually increased needs to be prevented from the devastation by weed breeding for re-cultivation. In this study, two fallow paddies that manage with different water depth from the experimental field were selected for observation, and analysis of water quality, water balance and plant body change. The managed fallow paddy was more effective in water quality purification and plants growth control than non-managed fallow paddy. And the fallow paddy managed with a some degree water depth was the most effective field on weed control.

  • Glucocorticoids are known to have anti-inflammatory effect. To investigate whether corticosterone pretreatment enhances or not lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced production of inflammatory mediators, RAW 264.7 cells were pretreated with various concentrations of corticosterone for 24 h and then cultured without corticosterone in the presence or absence of LPS. Our results demonstrated that LPS remarkably increased production of TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-6, IL-$1{\beta}$, vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF), and NO (nitric oxide). Corticosterone pretreatment significantly attenuated LPS-induced production of TNF-${\alpha}$, IL-$1{\beta}$, and VEGF, while significantly enhanced IL-6 and NO. These findings suggest that corticosterone pretreatment may contribute to LPS-induced inflammatory responses in macrophages via pro- and anti-inflammatory imbalance of inflammatory mediators.

  • Hair tissue mineral analysis is widely accepted for assessing essential and toxic elements which can give information about disease, metabolic disorder, nutritional imbalance, drug abuse, environmental exposure and so on. In Oriental Medicine, hair have been used as a diagnostic method which reflects the physiological and pathological status of body, especially kidney system(腎臟) and blood(血) like the quotations from Donguibogam(東醫寶鑑), 'hair belongs to kidney system(髮屬腎)' and 'hair is the remainder of blood(髮者血之餘)' Therefore we have suggested that HTMA have possibility to be utilized for screening and treatment for obesity, growth disorder, general deficiency syndrome(諸虛證), etc. in Oriental Medicine.

  • In the era of big data, the growth of e-commerce transactions brings forth both opportunities and risks, including the threat of data theft and fraud. To address these challenges, an automated real-time fraud detection system leveraging machine learning was developed. Four algorithms (Decision Tree, Naïve Bayes, XGBoost, and Neural Network) underwent comparison using a dataset from a clothing website that encompassed both legitimate and fraudulent transactions. The dataset exhibited an imbalance, with 9.3% representing fraud and 90.07% legitimate transactions. Performance evaluation metrics, including Recall, Precision, F1 Score, and AUC ROC, were employed to assess the effectiveness of each algorithm. XGBoost emerged as the top-performing model, achieving an impressive accuracy score of 95.85%. The proposed system proves to be a robust defense mechanism against fraudulent activities in e-commerce, thereby enhancing security and instilling trust in online transactions.

  • Correlations between mitochondrial respiration, glycolysis activity and overall growth activity of rice (Oryza sativa: cv. Dasan) seedlings during low temperature exposure were studied in order to provide insights into the underlying mechanism for the primary phase of chilling injury in plants. Among cellular membranes involved in energy metabolism, only the mitochondrial inner membrane showed not only physical phase transition at ca. $13^{\circ}C$, as monitored by ESR spin label, but also functional phase transition at the same temperature, as assessed by cytochrome c oxidase activity. The main regulatory enzyme of glycolysis, phosphofructokinase, in situ did not suffer phase transition of its activity at least in the $4{\sim}27^{\circ}C$ range. Low temperature caused a significant accumulation of glucose 6-phosphate (G6P) and fructose 6-phosphate (F6P), which disappeared almost completely on rewarming of the seedlings. Temperature profiles of the steady state levels of G6P and F6P revealed the inflection point appearing at around phase transition temperature of the mitochondrial membrane. The results conform to our previous proposition on the mechanism for the early stage events of chilling injury that the accumulation of glycolytic metabolites in cells due to metabolic imbalance at low temperature gives rise to an excess supply of electrons during rewarming period, which, in turn, results in overproduction of active oxygen in mitochondria.

  • Nd:LLM (Nd:LiLa(MoO$_4$)$_2$) single crystals for the laser host material were grown by the Czochralski method. The Nd:LLM grown single crystals cracked easily, and the reasons of cracks are generally related with phase transition, incongruent melting, chemical heterogeneity of composition, geometric thermal structures of imbalance and growth direction. We confirmed that phase transition is not observed by TG-DTA thermal analysis, and the XRD analysis revealed congruent melting in our products. It was confirmed that the volatilization of Li$_2$O composition is the important reason of chemical heterogeneity. The geometric thermal profile of the resistance furnace of our own design was controlled with a crucible height. Also, Nd:LLM crystal affected growth direction, and was the best quality in case of (101) growth direction. The distribution and effective distribution coefficient of Nd$^{3+}$ ion were accomplished by PIXE analysis.s.
