Bayes Estimators in Group Testing

  • Binomial group testing or composite sampling is often used to estimate the proportion, p, of positive(infects, defectives) in a population when that proportion is known to be small; the potential benefits of group testing over one-at-a-time testing are well documented. The literature has focused on maximum likelihood estimation. We provide two Bayes estimators and compare them with the MLE. The first of our Bayes estimators uses an uninformative Uniform (0, 1) prior on p; the properties of this estimator are poor. Our second Bayes estimator uses a much more informative prior that recognizes and takes into account key aspects of the group testing context. This estimator compares very favorably with the MSE, having substantially lower mean squared errors in all of the wide range of cases we considered. The priors uses a Beta distribution, Beta ($\alpha$, $\beta$), and some advice is provided for choosing the parameter a and $\beta$ for that distribution.

Developing EFL Students' Vocabulary and Reading Comprehension Skills within an Interactive Learning Environment

  • The current study investigates the effects of an interactive learning environment on EFL students' vocabulary acquisition and reading comprehension skills. The study utilized a quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 41 students enrolled in the English program at Umm Al-Qura University studying Reading in EFL course in Summer 2018/2019. The sample was randomly divided into two groups: A control group consisting of 21 students and an experimental group of 20 students. The results revealed statistically significant differences at (α≤ 0.01) between the mean scores of the experimental group and the control group in the posttest of the vocabulary test and the reading comprehension test favoring the experimental group. Finally, the study concluded with a call for more studies on modern technologies in teaching EFL skills in the Saudi context.

ISAD(G)에서 RiC-CM으로의 전환에 관한 연구 (Transition of Archival Description from ISAD(G) to Record in Context Conceptual Model)

  • 본 연구에서는 ICA EGAD의 RiC-CM 초안을 분석하고 ISAD(G)의 기술요소와 맵핑하였으며, RiC-CM 기반의 기록물군 기술정보를 시범적으로 구축해 보았다. 이는 기록물 기술표준의 변화 경향을 파악하고, 기존의 기술표준과 연계할 때의 고려사항을 도출하기 위한 것이었다. RiC-CM과 ISAD(G)의 맵핑 유형에는 속성 간 맵핑, 속성-개체 맵핑, 속성-관계 맵핑이 있었다. 그리고 기술요소간 맵핑 외에 RiC-CM의 개체와 속성, 관계를 통해 기록레코드를 구축할 수 있는 프레임을 프로테제를 이용하여 구축하고, 예시 데이터를 시범적으로 입력하였다. 그 결과 기존의 기술 정보를 RiC-CM을 통해서도 대부분 표현할 수 있었다. 게다가 RiC-CM에서는 기록 기술 정보가 상세히 구분되어 있고, 개별 개체 간의 관계를 브라우징할 수 있는 특징이 강화되었음을 알 수 있었다.

RiC-CM을 적용한 영구기록물 기술방안 연구 (A Study on Archive Description Using RiC-CM)

  • 본 연구는 영구기록물기술규칙 기반의 기술현황이 갖는 한계점을 살펴보고, 이에 대한 해결방안으로 RiC-CM(Record in Context - Conceptual model)을 적용한 영구기록물 기술방안을 제안하는데 그 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 문헌연구와 사례연구를 진행하였다. 국가기록원 영구기록원 기술현황의 한계에 대한 RiC-CM 기반의 해결방안과 그에 대한 효과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, RiC-CM는 특정 영구기록물이 복수 출처맥락을 반영하는 것이 가능하다. 이는 기록물과 각각의 출처를 개체로 정의하고 이들의 연관성을 관계로 표현하는 방식으로 해결할 수 있다. 기록물 개체들의 관계를 맺어주는 것만으로도 특정 영구기록물과 관련된 출처정보를 보다 정확히 표현 가능하고, 전체적인 생산맥락을 파악하기 용이하다. 둘째, RiC-CM는 연관이 있는 기록물 철·건 정보를 연계하는 것이 가능하다. 특정 기록물 군(퐁)에 속하는 하위 기록물 철·건들은 각각 개체로 지정하고, 생산맥락에 따른 관계를 부여하는 방식으로 해결할 수 있다. 이를 통해 실제 서비스를 제공할 때 연관된 영구기록물들의 정보를 한데모아 서비스하는 것이 가능하다. 그리고 이용자 입장에서는 영구기록물 검색의 폭을 넓힐 수 있다. 셋째, RiC-CM은 특정 생산기관과 연관된 모든 생산기관 정보를 연계하는 것이 가능하다. 만약 복수의 생산기관들이 서로 연관되어 있다면, 생산기관들을 각각의 개체로 정의하고 이들 간의 관계를 '연관이 있다(associated with)'로 표현할 수 있다. 이를 통해 생산기관의 맥락정보, 즉 기록의 출처맥락을 종합적으로 살펴보는데 도움이 된다. 본 연구를 통해 전자기록 관리환경의 패러다임 변화에 대응하여, 차세대 영구기록물 기술규칙인 RiC-CM에 대한 연구에 활용될 수 있기를 기대한다.

외국인 집단에 대한 초등 예비교사의 태도 분석 (Pre-Service Elementary School Teachers' Attitude toward Foreign Groups in the Context of Multicultural Education in Korea)

  • This study presumed that pre-service elementary teachers' stereotypical attitude toward foreign groups is critical factor to be considered in the context of Korean multicultural education. 422 pre-service elementary school teachers rated repeatedly seven ethnic groups on thirteen semantic differential scales which consist of four factors; attractiveness-unattractiveness, superiority-inferiority, rationality-irrationality, and aggressiveness-compliance. A series of repeated measure MANOVAs were used to test variability in pre-service elementary school teachers' stereotypical attitude across foreign groups. They rated Japanese the most positive, but Chinese the most negative, and others more or less positive in overall attitude. Their ratings of each ethnic group also varied across four attitude factors. Japanese and Whites were classified into the most attractive and superior, and moderately rational and aggressive groups. In contrast, Chinese were rated as the most unattractive, inferior, irrational, and moderately aggressive one. Southeast Asians were rated as attractive, compliant, and inferior one. In contrast, Arabians were rated as unattractive, aggressive, and moderately superior one. Finally, North Koreans were rated moderately superior, the most aggressive and irrational one. All these findings were discussed in terms of multicultural education in Korea.

서비스 복구를 통한 패션고객의 충성 형성과정과 설명의 효과 (Building Fashion Customer Loyalty by Service Recovery and the Effect of Explanations on It)

  • This study examines the structured model of building fashion customer loyalty by service recovery and scrutinizes the effect of explanations on perceived justice and the proposed model. The data of a total of 300 women were collected through an online survey. Employing structural equation modeling, this study demonstrated that both distributive and interactional justice had a positive impact on customers' satisfaction with service encounter that subsequently led to overall satisfaction with the brand. Overall satisfaction influenced the attitudinal loyalty of customers that induced their behavioral loyalty. To examine the effect of explanations on perceived justice and the process of building fashion customer loyalty by service recovery, t-test and multi-group SEM were employed. The result displayed that the group who received explanations after service failure perceived higher level of justice than the one who did not. There was a significant difference between two groups on the direct path from interactional justice to overall satisfaction with the brand. This study clarifies how perceived justice influences fashion customer loyalty mediating by satisfaction in and confirms the critical role of explanations in service recovery context. By implying the understanding of the important role of explanations in service recovery context, this study provides fashion marketers with insight for delivering more successful service recovery strategies that enhance customer loyalty.

공간 영역 예측에 의한 정지 영상 부호화 (Advanced Image Coding based on spacial domain prediction)

  • 본 논문은 차세대 영상 부호화 표준, H.264/MPEG-4 Part 10 AVC(Advanced Video Coding)와 기존의 정지 영상 부호화 표준, JPEG(Joint Photographic Experts Group)이 결합된 진보적인 정지 영상부호화(Advanced Image Coding, AIC) 알고리즘에 대하여 살펴본다. AIC 알고리즘은 H.264의 인트라 프레임 블록 예측 방법과 컨텍스트 기반 적응형 이진 산술 부호화(Context-based Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding, CABAC), 그리고 JPEG 표준의 DCT 변환이 결합된 것이다. 본 논문에서는 AIC와 JPEG, JPEG-2000 등의 정지 영상 표준들의 성능을 비교 분석하고 그 결과를 제시한다.

New Framework and Mechanisms of Context-Aware Service Composition in the Future Internet

  • The ongoing proliferation of new services, applications, and contents is leading the Internet to an architectural crisis owing to its inability to provide efficient solutions to new requirements. Clean-slate architectures for the future Internet offer a new approach to tackle current and future challenges. This proposal introduces a novel clean-slate architecture in which the TCP/IP protocol stack is decoupled in basic functionalities, that is, atomic services (ASs). A negotiation protocol, which enables context-aware service discovery for providing adapted communications, is also specified. Then, we present how ASs can be discovered and composed according to requesters' requirements. In addition, a media service provisioning use case shows the benefits of our framework. Finally, a proof-of-concept implementation of the framework is described and analyzed. This paper describes the first clean-slate architecture aligned with the work done within the ISO/IEC Future Network working group.

문화적 다양성이 커뮤니케이션에 미치는 영향 (Cultural Diversity and Communication Barrier)

  • We're living in a world of one global village. The globalization of business is acceleration as more companies cross national borders to find customers, materials and money. Many foreign companies and organizations are doing their business aggressively in Korea and many Korean companies and rushing into foreign market. When people communicate for business with someone from another culture, there could be difficult communication barriers to overcome resulting from differences in their values, beliefs, norms for behavior, expectations, attitudes and so on. To do successfully business, we need to understand culture background and communication style that is different from nation, race, language. Communication barriers stemming from cultural differences may vary. Largely, they can be divided into value system, non-verbal communication, and perception process. Value system can be divided into individualism versus group orientation, avoidance of uncertainty degree, power distance, and high- context culture versus low-context culture. Also non-verbal communication method and perception process may play decisive roles in communication effectiveness. Especially nonverbal communication barriers which sometimes play more important roles than the verbal parts are composed of eye contact, gesture, kinesics, proxemics, chronemics, paralanguage and language of color Cross-cultural communication affect business situation. I expect that if we understand cultural background, and then we overcome cross-cultural communication barriers. To overcome and to adapt inter-cultural business, we need to develope curriculum on the cross-cultural education which I will study in the next paper.

초등 과학영재와 일반 학생의 과학탐구문제 발견 능력에 대한 비교 (A Comparison of Science Inquiry Problem Finding Ability of Gifted Elementary Students of Science and General Elementary Students)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the science inquiry problem finding ability of gifted elementary students of science and general elementary students. For this purpose, this study analyzed the types of science inquiry problems in an ill-structured problem finding situation. Also, this study has compared science inquiry problem finding abilities of those two groups. From the results of this study, new ways of improving student' science inquiry problem finding ability and selection of gifted students of science were suggested. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, most of the inquiry problems generated by the scientifically gifted and the general students in an ill-structured problem situation could be categorized into seven types (measurement, method, cause, possibility, what, comparison, relationship) according to the inquiry objectives, and both group found more problems in scientific context than in everyday context. Regardless of the context of problem, scientifically gifted students found more problems and the type of problems generated by them were more various than those of general students. Second, there were differences in problem finding ability between scientifically gifted and general students. Scientifically gifted students found more problems and the quality of problems were higher than general students.
