  • In NATM tunnels, water inrush and tunnel collapse are often encountered in silty-fine sand with abundant water during excavation. Because of the special engineering properties of this stratum, grouting effect is difficult to achieve as expected, and it is a major problem in the field of civil engineering. Taking Beijing Metro Line 10 as a case, we applied PFC3D to simulate the process of grouting in this stratum. By analyzing the law of grout diffusing and porosity change under different grouting pressures, the study found that grouting was a process of splitting, and grouting pressure played an important role. The numerical results were verified by theoretical calculation analysis, and the grouting parameters were determined under the various grouting pressures for practice. After the excavation of this tunnel, the concretions in silty-fine sand are similar to the results of PFC3D simulation, which indicates that the grouting mechanism is confirmed by field observation further.

  • In this study, static end loading tests with load transfer measurement were accomplished for large diameter drilled shaft constructed in fault zone. Yield pile capacity (or ultimate pile capacity) from load-settlement curve was determined and axial load transfer behavior was measurd. The end bearing capacity was increased 2 times due to grouting the toe ground under pile base.

  • In this paper, we used the electrical resistivity survey as a simple and reasonable technique to evaluate the effectiveness of grouting. And, a mechanism was also analyzed to understand how the electrical resistivity is affected by the loss of fine material in the core of a dam. From this mechanism, it was confirmed that electrical resistivity value of the damage section may be up or down depending on the survey conditions. This result seems to be contrary to the previous study that electrical resistivity of the damage zone become alway low. To clarify what was investigated, the electrical resistivity before and after grouting was compared and analyzed. As the result, it was concluded that grouting effectiveness was successfully assessed by electrical resistivity survey.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of hydrochemical variation of groundwater on the gas tigtness in an unlined oil storage cavern. The groundwater chemistry is greatly influenced by the seawater mixing, the water curtain and the dissolution of grounting cements. The chemical composition of groundwater greatly varies ac-cording to both the location of monitoring wells and the sampling period. Most of groundwater shows alkaline pH and high electrical conductivity. The chemical types of groundwater show the dominant order as follows : Na-Cl type > Ca-Cl type > $Ca-HCO_3(CO_3)$ type. Thermodynamic equilibrium state between chemical composition of groundwater and major minerals indicates that carbonate minerals except clay minerals can be precipitated as a secondary mineral. It means that the secondary precipitates can not greatly exerts the clogging effect into fracture aperture in rock mass around oil storage cavern. The content of total organic carbon (TOC) shows a slightly increasing trend from initial stage to late stage. The $EpCO_2$ was computed so as to assess the gas contribution on the $CO_2$ in groundwater. The $EpCO_2$ of 0$\~$41.3 indicates that the contribution of oil gas on $CO_2$ pressure in groundwater system can be neglected.

  • When cement grout is used for waterproofing of grounds, important roles are played by fluidity, particle size and bleeding. The most important element which determines their characteristics is the water/cement ratio of grout. Moreover in order to improve the efficiency of soil permeation, micro cement with a smaller average diameter is used in addition to ordinary portland cement. Besides the mixing ratio and cement diameter, the condition of ground is also of fundamental importance in the efficiency of permeation. In order to evaluate grout in terms of permeation ability into ground, we need a field test of grounting, which is cost and time consuming. In this paper we present a laboratory test method in which the suitability and efficiency of grouts are simply and more practically tested. In Korea neither a test standard nor devices are available to simulate grouting in a laboratory. We devised a grout injection equipment in which grouting was reproduced in the same condition with different materials, and suggested a standard for the production of specimens. Our tests revealed that the efficiency of injection increases with the water/cement ratio. We also found that more efficiently injected is the grout with the order of decreasing size; MS8000, micro cement, and ultra fine cements, and colloidal super cement.
