Hemodialysis is a way of treatment for the patients with acute and chronic renal failure. "Marginal man" depicts the enormous amount of stress that hemodialytic patients suffer. It is known that family with chronic illness get stressed along with the patients and they need nursing care also. This qualitative study was conducted in order to identify the family adaptation process in patients with hemodialysis. 6 dyads of hemodialytic patients and caregivers were interviewed for this research. By way of grounded theoretical strategy the data was collected from October 20, 1999 to November 20, 1999. at a hemodialytic unit that was located in Iksan, Chonbuk by the researcher. The main research questions were "What's the adaptation experience of a patient since after being received with hemodialysis?" to the patients, and "What's the family adaptation experience of hemodialysis?" to the caregivers. The collected data was analyzed by grounded theoretical strategy built by Glaser & Strauss in 1967. Results were as follows; 7 grounded concepts were observed from the patients with hemodialysis and 4 grounded concepts were found from the caregivers. Two categories were derived ; 1) Holding hope that is related with treatment 2) Changing a value system.
In this paper, I applied grounded theory in exploring how Twitter became the battlefield for China's public diplomacy campaign. China's new move to global social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, has been a controversial strategy in public diplomacy. This study analyzes Chinese Foreign Spokesperson Zhao Lijian's Twitter posts and comments. It models China's recent diplomatic move to Twitter as a "war of words" model, with features including "leadership," "polarization," and "aggression," while exerting possible effects as "resistance," "hatred," and "sarcasm" to the global community. Our findings show that by failing to gage public opinion and promote the country's positive image, China's current digital diplomacy strategy reflected by Zhao Lijian's tweets has instead constructed a polarized political public sphere, contradictory to the country's promoted "shared human destiny." The "war of words" model extends our understanding of China's new digital diplomacy move as a hybrid of state propaganda and self-performance. Such a strategy could spread hate speech and accelerate political polarization in cyberspace, despite improvements to China's homogenous network building on Twitter.

With the acceleration of China's urbanization process, the economic development and market potential of small and medium-sized cities have been constantly enhanced, with the urbanization competition having been caught in the vortex of homogenization. However, small and medium-sized cities are exposed to limited resources and funds, and therefore need to be more flexible and innovative in the strategy implementation, while urban brand communication is one of the key factors to promote the competitiveness of cities. Taking the small and medium-sized cities in China as the research objects, this study, based on the domestic and foreign theories about the brand communication of small and medium-sized cities, as well as other city-related theories, analyzes textual materials about the current situation and new changes in brand communication of small and medium-sized cities with grounded theory, reflecting on the problems in brand communication in China's small and medium-sized cities. Combining the basic elements of urban brand communication, a model for constructing brand communication strategies for small and medium-sized cities is further proposed, so as to provide the differentiated and distinctive strategies for the construction and communication of urban brands in small and medium-sized cities in China, as well as provide a new perspective and strategy on how to enhance the competitiveness and contribute to the sustainable economic development of small and medium-sized.
Purpose: This research was conducted to explore the experience of using Internet to solve health problems and to develope a grounded theory. Method: There were 15 subjects in their 30s who had experience using Internet to solve health problems for themselves and their families. Results: 114 concepts, 31 subcategories, and 9 categories were derived from the analysis by using approaches by Strauss & Corbin. Central phenomenon was "Primary healthcare information" and the core category was "Selecting ways to solve health problems". The participants' experiences were conceptualized into two perspectives: reliability of the information and tendency of preference among the sites. Conclusion: All of the processes found on Internet that solved health problems required the assistance of a health professional such as a nurse. It was judged that there are some differences in the degree of usage regarding health-related information, which was primarily in accordance with the confidence and attitude of the user with respect to Internet information. We presented a strategy that could operate with professionals and nonprofessionals. Therefore, we can be satisfied by the fact that this study suggests a complimentary nursing strategy to the healthcare on Internet.
The purpose of this study was to improve the understanding of housing experiences of the married women in Korean sociocultural context and to explore their housing mobility. The grounded theory was adopted in this qualitative study. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with the seventeen married women. The major categories found in the data are 1) the inducement of housing mobility, 2) social constraint and opportunity, 3) the strategy and resource of housing mobility, 4) the intervening conditions, and 5) self-evaluation of their own housing life history. People construct their housing life history toward home ownership. There are a few factors to induce housing mobility, and social constraints and opportunity have an effect on obtaining home ownership. They utilize the diverse strategy and resource to solve their housing matter. Through interview, it is founded that they evaluate their housing career in the light of their life through interview.
This research is intended to study the dietary experiences by college women to promote women's health through the proper diet. The approach method was used grounded theory. The participants were selected 3 colleges in Seoul, Inchon, and Cheongju. The selected 15 women were college students who had a history of dietary experiences or who were on the way of diet at the time of the start of this research. The data were collected from August 2001 to October 2001. Data collecting method was a Focus Group Interview. The data were analysed by the Strauss and Corbin's method(1966). The results were showed that the 236 concepts in the dietary experiences were gathered into 48 sub-categories, eventually being integrated into 17 higher categories. 'Esthetic self-pursuit' is the core phenomenon of the dietary experiences. Such phenomenon is due to subjects physical problems, sense of comparison and desire of weight-loss. In the circumstantial context, the esthetic self-pursuit phenomenon is enhanced by social opinions, aesthetic senses, and the recognition of self-control. The interaction strategy of the esthetic self-pursuit can be intensified and sustained by will power, supporting systems, and accessibility. Through the dietary experiences, the body changes positive or negative figures. Following the sense of success or failure, the diet are sustained or abandoned accordingly. Therefore for the application of promoting health, an intervention strategy should be created a collect organized diet program in a social level not a private level.
The fashion industry has been rearranged by Global SPA brands (like ZARA and H&M), which are powerful retailers that integrate the value chain ranging from manufacturing to sales. SPA brands can offer good quality of clothing at a reasonable price by cutting the margin between the supply chain. They are also called fast fashions since they make expedited efforts to respond to market trends and consumers. Despite the slow growth of the fashion industry in Korea, as global SPA brands rapidly expand market share, traditional fashion companies have launched several SPA brands such as MIXXO and SPAO (E-LAND), 8SECONDS (CHEIL INDUSTRIES). The few academic studies on this subject are focused on the analysis of secondary data such as news and books. The current research is qualitative and empirical attempts to explore the success factor of SPA brands with analysis of 1:1 in-depth interviews with experts who have worked for global SPAs such as Uniqlo, H&M, and ZARA, based on the grounded theory. The main phenomenon was shown to be that global SPA brands were popular since they offer a variety of products with a large assortment at reasonable and cheap prices in a large scale and multifunctional retail store. Most of them displayed main phenomena that can be realized due to the purchasing cycle of clothing that is shorter with consumers' regarding clothing as consumables. Global SPA brands had three types of marketing strategy: sellable product, sales strategy according to consumer response, and multifunctional stores. Each global SPA brand developed marketing strategies based on core competency and national conditions. The three success factors shorten the consumer decision making process of clothing. This study concludes with implications for practitioners of SPA brands born in Korea.
Purpose: Purpose of this study was to explore the process of menopause experiences in middle-aged women. Method: The grounded theory methodology by Strauss & Corbin was the basis for this study. The participants were 15 middle-aged women selected by theoretical sampling. The data were collected by in-depth interviews using audiotape recording analyzed simultaneously by the constant comparative method described in Strauss and Corbin's methodology. Results: Experiencerelated to menopause in middle-aged women is caused by cognition of the aging process, difficult problems in family that occur with limitation of social activity, and perception of changingseasons. The central incident of menopause in middle-aged women was loss of the woman's identity. Intervening conditions, which are action/interactional strategies for menopause, are related to social support. Action/interactional strategies related to menopause management included medical treatment, mind control, and participation in social activity. Experiencerelated to menopause in middle-aged women resulted in comfort or discomfot of physical and emotional condition. Conclusion: The findings of this study may contribute to the development health promotion strategy for middle-aged women. There is need to develop family support systems and preventive nursing interventions to avoid negative coping strategy.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the in-home child care support service experience of twenty child rearing families. In order to conduct this study, grounded theory method was employed. The central phenomenon of the service experience digged out from this study was 'difficulty' (i. e. insecurity and a feeling of helplessness). The causal conditions which brought about the central phenomenon were 'defect of system' and 'service characteristics' The intervening conditions included 'alternative resources' 'working conditions' and 'service institute manager discretion'. The contextual conditions consisted of 'maternal ideology' 'the public nanny's personality awareness'. The action/interaction strategies on the central phenomenon were 'inaction' 'insecurity decrease strategy' and 'dissonance decrease strategy. The final outcome was 'rearing gap fillup "the method of nanny managing" dissatisfaction accumulation' ''system improvement demand'. The families were classified as four types: 'management/subject' 'adaptation/dependent' 'patience/acceptant' 'supplementation/overcoming'. Based on these results, this study provided a few political and practice suggestions to improve this system.
In this study, we tried to understand preschooler clothing trends and identify the purchase behaviors of various consumers, such as grandparents, aunts, uncles, and parents, who are the main consumers of the preschooler clothing market. We conducted in-depth interviews with consumers who were interested in preschooler clothing, purchased it frequently, and bought preschooler clothing within the last three months. Their purchase motivations and purchase behaviors were analyzed through exploratory and inductive analysis. The analysis was conducted by integrating categories into one process centered on core categories through open coding, axial coding, and selective coding. The results of this study included that 1) a variety of clothing purchase behaviors appeared as a central phenomenon, 2) the causal conditions that contributed to this phenomenon were the buyers' childcare experiences, purchase experiences, the personal consumption values of individuals, and income levels, 3) in response to the central phenomenon, the parents' action/interaction strategies were acceptance and rejection of purchased clothing, 4) contextual and Intervening conditions affecting action/interaction strategy were family environment changes, the VIB (Very Important Baby) phenomenon, parents' clothing involvement, and the relationship with the buyers, and acceptance by the users, and 5) as a result of the strategy expressed as acceptance and rejection, various clothing behaviors emerged. In this study, we identified that there are various influencers, apart from parents, involved in children's clothing consumption. Therefore, we need to keep in mind that various purchase behaviors and clothing trends that appear during one's childhood may affect the individual's clothing behavior in the future.
