An one dimensional atmosphere-vegetation interaction model is developed to discuss of the effect of vegetation on heat flux in mesoscale planetary boundary layer. The canopy model was a coupled system of three balance equations of energy, moisture at ground surface and energy state of canopy with three independent variables of $T_f$(foliage temperature), $T_g$(ground temperature) and $q_g$(ground specific humidity). The model was verified by comparative study with OSUID(Oregon State University One Dimensional Model) proved in HYPEX-MOBHLY experiment. As the result, both vegetation and soil characteristics can be emphasized as an important factor iii the analysis of heat flux in the boundary layer. From the numerical experiments, following heat flux characteristics are clearly founded simulation. The larger shielding factor(vegetation) increase of $T_f$ while decrease $T_g$. because vegetation cut solar radiation to ground. Vegetation, the increase of roughness and resistance, increase of sensible heat flux in foliage while decrease the latent heat flux in the foliage.

In this paper, we present an alternative seismic design strategy for cable stayed bridges with concrete pylons when subjected to strong ground motions. The comparison of conventional seismic design using supplemental dampers (strategy A) and the new strategy using nonlinear seismic design of pylon columns (strategy B) is exemplified by one typical medium span cable stayed bridge subjected to strong ground motions from 1999 Taiwan Chi-Chi earthquake and 2008 China Wenchuan earthquake. We first conducted the optimization of damper parameters according to strategy A in response to the distinct features that strong ground motions contain. And then we adopted strategy B to carry out seismic analysis by introducing the elastic-plastic elements that allowing plasticity development in the pylon columns. The numerical results show that via strategy A, the earthquake induced structural responses can be kept in the desired range provided with the proper damping parameters, however, the extra cost of unusual dampers will be inevitable. For strategy B, the pylon columns may not remain elastic and certain plasticity developed, but the seismic responses of the foundation will be greatly decreased, meanwhile, the displacement at the top of pylon seems to be not affected much by the yielding of pylon columns, which indicates the pylon nonlinear design can be an alternative design strategy when strong ground motions have to be considered for the bridge.

This research aimed at to develop a quantitative assesment technique which uses the measured displacements at the excavated plane during tunnel construction. Tunnel structure has a feature with long extents comparing to the excavated section so that the tunnel safety assesment is more effective by using the measured data of displacements. Tunnel structures show different structural behaviors due to the mechanical characteristics of ground and supports themselves, excavation methods and construction methods of supports, etc. From this point of view, it has very important meanings on the practical aspects that the measured data from the construction cite represent the features of the interaction effects between ground and supports as they are. In this study, both the stress state and the properties of surrounding ground are analyzed by newly incorporated feedback analysis technique which can use the measured displacements directly. Then, the stress state and the properties of ground will be used to obtain the strain distribution of surrounding ground. Finally the tunnel safety can be assessed by comparing the estimated strain through the analysis to the allowable strain of ground quantitatively.

A better understanding of tornado-induced wind loads is needed to improve the design of typical structures to resist these winds. An accurate understanding of the loads requires knowledge of near-ground tornado winds, but observations in this region are lacking. The first goal of this study was to verify how well a CFD model, when driven by far field radar observations and laboratory measurements, could capture the flow characteristics of both full scale and laboratory-simulated tornadoes. A second goal was to use the model to examine the sensitivity of the simulations to various parameters that might affect the laboratory simulator tornado. An understanding of near-ground winds in tornadoes will require coordinated efforts in both computational and physical simulation. The sensitivity of computational simulations of a tornado to geometric parameters and surface roughness within a domain based on the Iowa State University laboratory tornado simulator was investigated. In this study, CFD simulations of the flow field in a model domain that represents a laboratory tornado simulator were conducted using Doppler radar and laboratory velocity measurements as boundary conditions. The tornado was found to be sensitive to a variety of geometric parameters used in the numerical model. Increased surface roughness was found to reduce the tangential speed in the vortex near the ground and enlarge the core radius of the vortex. The core radius was a function of the swirl ratio while the peak tangential flow was a function of the magnitude of the total inflow velocity. The CFD simulations showed that it is possible to numerically simulate the surface winds of a tornado and control certain parameters of the laboratory simulator to influence the tornado characteristics of interest to engineers and match those of the field.
We have calculated the probability of HBr formation and energy disposal of the reaction exothermicity in HBr produced from the reaction of gas-phase bromine with highly covered chemisorbed hydrogen atoms on a Si (001)-(2 ${\times}$1) surface. The reaction probability is about 0.20 at gas temperature 1500 K and surface temperature 300 K. Raising the initial vibrational state of the adsorbate(H)-surface(Si) bond from the ground to v = 1, 2 and 3 states causes the vibrational, translational and rotational energies of the product HBr to increase equally. However, the vibrational and translational motions of product HBr share most of the reaction energy. Vibrational population of the HBr molecules produced from the ground state adsorbate-surface bond ($v_{HSi}$ =0) follows the Boltzmann distribution, but it deviates seriously from the Boltzmann distribution when the initial vibrational energy of the adsorbate-surface bond increases. When the vibration of the adsorbate-surface bond is in the ground state, the amount of energy dissipated into the surface is negative, while it becomes positive as vHSi increases. The energy distributions among the various modes weakly depends on surface temperature in the range of 0-600 K, regardless of the initial vibrational state of H(ad)-Si(s) bond.

Most outdoor sounds go from sources relatively near the ground to receivers near the ground. When either source or receiver are near the ground, interference can occur between the direct sound and that reflected at the ground which travels a slightly longer path. The sound pressure at the receiver is very different depending on the state of ground surface i.e. ground impedance. Ground impedances could be characterized by the value of a single parameter, namely the flow resistivity of the ground surface. This study suggests the measurement method of the flow resistivity using two microphones and predicts the flow resistivities of various ground surfaces.
In Haenam-Cheju HVDC link several modes of operations and controls are provided, which are constant frequency control, constant power control and constant current control. This paper describes basic control action of converters under three control modes and shows EMTDC simulation results at ground fault and steady state respectively.

This paper presents a systematic approach of measurement, modeling and analysis of grounding system impedance in the field of lightning protection system and intelligent power equipments. The measurement and analysis system of ground impedance is based on a computer aided technique. The magnitude and phase of ground impedance were determined by the novel measurement and analysis using the revised fall-of-potential method. The ground impedances of the ground rod of 50 m long are considerably dependent on the frequency. The ground impedance is mainly resistive in the frequency range of 3-20 kHz. At higher frequencies, the reactive components of the ground impedances are no longer negligible and the inductance of the ground rod was found to be the core factor deciding the ground impedance. Although the steady-state ground resistance of the ground rod of 50 m was less than that of the ground rod of 10 m, the ground impedances of the ground rod of 50 m over the frequency range of more than 60 kHz were much greater than those of the ground rod of 10 m. Furthermore, the equivalent circuit model based on the measured data was proposed. and the calculated results were in approximately agreement with the measured data.
Density functional MO calculations for the methylsilole anion of $[C_4H_4SiMe]^-$ and methylgermole anion of $[C_4H_4SiMe]^-$ at the B3LYP (full)/6-311+$G^*$ level (GAUSSIAN 94) were carried out and characterized by frequency analysis. The ground state structure for the methylsilole anion and methylgermole anion is that the methyl group is pyramidalized with highly localized structure. The difference between the calculated $C_{\alpha}-C_{\beta}$ and $C_{\beta}-C_{\beta}$ distances are 9.4 and 11.5 pm, respectively. The E-Me vector forms an angle of $67.9^{\circ}$ and $78.2^{\circ}$ with the $C_4E$ plane, respectively. The optimized structures of the saddle point state for the methylsilole anion and methylgermole anion have been also found as a planar with highly delocalized structure. The optimized $C_{\alpha}-C_{\beta}$ and $C_{\beta}-C_{\beta}$ distances are nearly equal for both cases. The methyl group is located in the plane of $C_4E$ ring and the angle between the E-Me vector and the $C_4E$ plane for the methylsilole anion and methylgermole anion is $2.0^{\circ}$ and $2.3^{\circ}$, respectively. The energy difference between the ground state structure and the transition state structure is only 5.1 kcal $mol^{-1}$ for the methylsilole anion. However, the energy difference of the methylgermole anion is 14.9 kcal $mol^{-1}$, which is much higher than that for the corresponding methylsilole monoanion by 9.8 kcal $mol^{-1}$. Based on MO calculations, we suggest that the head-to-tail dimer compound, 4, result from [2+2] cycloaddition of silicon-carbon double bond character in the highly delocalized transition state of 1. However, the inversion barrier for the methylgermole anion is too high to dimerize.
