To detect ground subsidence, the permanent scatterer SAR interferometry is applied to the Shinho industrial complex. Eleven JERS-1 images were acquired in the study area between October 1996 and September 1998. All SAR data were co-registered to one master scene (January 8, 1998) and thus 10 interferograms were obtained in a time series. In order to determine permanent scatterers, coherence maps as well as the interferograms were generated and exploited. The coherence at the selected PSs was larger than 0.4 in a 515 sub-window and 0.5 in a 39 sub-window. Twenty-nine PSs within the reclaimed land and 8 PSs (as reference phase) outside the plant were selected for the analysis. The 29 PSs were grouped into 5 sub-groups. We removed the reference phase, which was estimated from 8 outside PSs that were considered as phases free of displacement, from the phases at PSs inside the plant. Residual phases could be interpreted as surface displacement and DEM error. The subsidence of about 40 cm was detected at group 4, while surface displacements were negligible in the rest groups.
MSC(Multi-Spectral Camera) is a main payload of KOMPSAT(Korea Multi-Purpose Satellite)-II which will be launched in 2004. MSC will perform his mission with the GSD(Ground Sample Distance) of 1m, swath width of 15km and spectral range of 450nm~900nm at the altitude of 685km. MSC consists of three main subsystems. One is EOS(Electro-Optics Subsystem), another is PMU(Payload Management Unit) and the other is PDTS(Payload Data Transmission Subsystem). There is an SBC(Single Board Computer) in the PW to control all the other units and SBC software performs the interface with spacecraft and control all MSC sub-units. SBC software consists of a lot of tasks and manages them with the time criticalness. All tasks are designed to be scheduled and executed at the predetermined time in order to make sure that the mission of MSC system is achieved successfully. In this paper, the real-time task scheduling of the SBC software will be described and analyzed.
Recently, the ground-based laser profiler is used for acquisition of 3D spatial information of a rchaeological objects. However, it is very difficult to measure complicated objects, because of a relatively low-resolution. On the other hand, texture mapping can be a solution to complement the low resolution, and to generate 3D model with higher fidelity. But, a huge cost is required for the construction of textured 3D model, because huge labor is demanded, and the work depends on editor's experiences and skills . Moreover, the accuracy of data would be lost during the editing works. In this research, using the laser profiler and a non-calibrated digital camera, a method is proposed for the automatic generation of 3D model by integrating these data. At first, region segmentation is applied to laser range data to extract geometric features of an object in the laser range data. Various information such as normal vectors of planes, distances from a sensor and a sun-direction are used in this processing. Next, an image segmentation is also applied to the digital camera images, which include the same object. Then, geometrical relations are determined by corresponding the features extracted in the laser range data and digital camera’ images. By projecting digital camera image onto the surface data reconstructed from laser range image, the 3D texture model was generated automatically.
This system is capable of obtaining quantitative information from images using natural features on the ortho-image maps that correspond with those from topographical maps. However, the qualitative information can also be obtained because because of the excellent visibility of ortho-image maps. There are plenty of promise for the use of ortho-image maps in the next generation topographic technology because of its wider applicability within the field. In keeping with the cutting edge, we produced ortho-image maps by scanning a specified area in narrow sections using the PKNU 2: a multispectral digital aerial photographing system made by ourselves. We evaluated the precision of the ortho-image maps, and performed an evaluation of the PKNU 2 system's capacity to improve the equipment of the PKNU 2. Ortho-image maps were made using Ground Control Points (GCPs) which were obtained from digital maps and aerial photographs of the PKNU 2. Thus, we demonstrated that it was possible to produce the ortho-image maps, which has a good constant level rate of less than 1m. The PKNU 2 system needs to be improving in the sensitivity of level maintenance equipment in the evaluation in terms of performance. It is thus required to survey the GCPs precisely for an accurate study.
In this study, visible and near infrared channels of NOAA/AVHRR data were used to classify land use and vegetation types over Korean peninsula. Analyzing forest stand structures and prediction of forest productivity using satellite data were also reviewed. Land use and land cover classification was made by unsupervised clustering methods. After monthly Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) composite images were derived from April to November 1998, the derived composite images were used as temporal feature vector's in this clustering analysis. Visually interpreted, the classification result was satisfactory in overall for it matched well with the general land cover patterns. But subclassification of forests into coniferous, deciduous, and mixed forests were much confused due to the effects of low ground resolution of AVHRR data and without defined classification scheme. To investigate into the forest stand structures, digital forest type maps were used as an ancillary data. Forest type maps, which were compiled and digitalized by Forestry Research Institute, were registered to AVHRR image coordinates. Two data sets were compared and percent forest cover over whole region was estimated by multiple regression analysis. Using this method, other forest stand structure characteristics within the primary data pixels are expected to be extracted and estimated.
Electro-Optical Camera (EOC) is the main payload of the KOMPSAT-1 satellite to perform the mission of cartography that builds up a digital map of Korean territory including a digital terrain elevation map. This paper discusses the issues of the digital image simulation of EOC for the generation of EOC simulated scene as taken by EOC at 685km altitude on orbit. For the purpose, simulation work has been performed with the sensor models of EOC and the satellite platform motions models through image chain analysis from the illumination source (Sun) to a simulated image output in digital number. MODTRAN fur radiance calculation, MTF models of optics, detector and motions of EOC for system point spread function (PSF), and signal chain equations for digital number output are described. Several noise models of EOC are also considered. The final output is the EOC simulated image in digital number. The simulation technique can be used in several phase of a spaceborne electro-optical system development project, feasibility study phase, design, manufacturing, test phases, ground image processing phases, and so on.

The characteristics of the total ozone variations measured by the ground-based Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer and the Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) over Pohang are statistically examined from January 1994 to December 2004. First of all, in the correlation analysis of the total ozone measured from the Brewer Ozone Spectrophotometer and the TOMS, the correlation coefficient was 0.88 and the used data were 2190. The annual mean value of the total ozone is 311 DU with the standard deviation of 13 DU. The maximum and the minimum value were found in March (343 DU) and in September (282 DU), respectively. It was also revealed that the longest seasonal variation is in Spring (341 DU) and the smallest is in Autumn (283 DU). The time series data of the total ozone indicates that the annual variation is significant and the variations for three months and six months are relatively weak. Finally, the annual mean total ozones in Pohang (Brewer), Seoul (Brewer) and Busan (TOMS) are 312 DU, 324 DU and 304 DU, respectively.

All CCD pixels do not react uniformly even if the light of same radiance enters into the camera. This comes from the different camera optical characteristics, the read-out characteristics, the pixel own characteristics and so on. Usually, the image data of satellite camera can be corrected by the various image-processing methods in the ground. However, sometimes, the in-orbit correction is needed to get the higher quality image. Especially high frequency pixel correction in the middle of in-orbit mission is needed because the in-orbit data compression with the high frequency loss is essential to transmit many data in real time due to the limited RF bandwidth. In this case, this high frequency correction can prevent have to have any unnecessary high frequency loss. This in-orbit correction can be done by the specific correction table, which consists of the gain and the offset correction value for each pixel. So, it is very important to get more accurate correction table for good correction results. This paper shows the new algorithm to get accurate pixel correction table. This algorithm shall be verified theoretically and also verified with the various simulation and the test results.
Unsupervised spectral angle classification (USAC) is the algorithm that can extract ground object information with the minimum 'Spectral Angle' operation on behalf of 'Spectral Euclidian Distance' in the clustering process. In this study, our algorithm uses the unit vector instead of the spectral distance to compute the mean of cluster in the unsupervised classification. The proposed algorithm (MUSAC) is applied to the Hyperion and ETM+ data and the results are compared with K-Meails and former USAC algorithm (FUSAC). USAC is capable of clearly classifying water and dark forest area and produces more accurate results than K-Means. Atmospheric correction for more accurate results was adapted on the Hyperion data (Hyperion-FLAASH) but the results did not have any effect on the accuracy. Thus we anticipate that the 'Spectral Angle' can be one of the most accurate classifiers of not only multispectral images but also hyperspectral images. Furthermore the cluster unit vector can be an efficient technique for determination of each cluster mean in the USAC.
In this paper, the real scenario of water situation (e.g. water management, water availability and flooding) in an irrigated rice cultivation area in Suphanburi Province, Central-West Thailand is discussed together with the NDVI time series data. The result shown is derived by our classifier named 'Peak Detector Algorithm (PDA)'. The method discriminated 5 classes in terms of irrigation activities and cropping intensities, namely, Non-irrigated, Poorly irrigated - 1 crop/year, Irrigated - 2 crops/year, Irrigated - 3 crops/year and Others (no cultivation happens in a year or other land covers). The overall accuracy of all classified results (1999-2001) is around $77\%$ against independent ground truth data (general activities or function of an area). In the classified results, spatial and temporal inconsistency appeared significantly in the Western and Southern areas of Suphanburi. The inconsistency resulted mainly by anomaly of rainfall pattern in 1999 and their temporal irrigation activity. The algorithm however, was proved that it could detect actual change of irrigation status in a year.
