Development of Helical Groove Bush for Construction Machines

  • This study was conducted to improve the durability and decrease the friction of the sintered bushing used in the joints of construction equipment. Research was carried out to examine the effects of the groove pattern on the inner surface. The following results were obtained: (1) The bushing (EK Bush) with grooves on the inner diameter showed increased durability as compared to a non-grooved bushing. (2) The helical-grooved bushing showed the least amount of wear; it was 1/10 of the wear of the non-grooved bushing. (3) If the distance between grooves was decreased, then the coefficient of friction also decreased.

  • In the paper, static characteristics of spiral grooved seal is theoretically obtained by Using Navier-Stokes equation. In the analysis, inertia term of fluid is considered and the flow and pressure in the steady state are obtained for the groove direction and vertical to the groove direction. As the journal rotating frequency increases, the leakage flow decreases. Therefore, zero net leakage flow is possible at the region of some rotating frequency.

  • We present a novel fabrication method for a V-grooved mold of the light guide plat of TFT-LCD with MEMS technology. This method is performed by the inclined UV lithography and Ni electroplating unlike the previous mechanical processing technique. V-grooves with different dimension can be made simultaneously with single photomask.

  • Hydrodynamic lateral forces acting on circumferentially grooved and tapered pistons in hydraulic piston pumps are analyzed for the case where the axis of piston and cylinder are tilted with each other. The effects of grooves and tilting on lateral force and leakage flowrate are discussed from the analytical solution of one-dimensional Reynolds equation. The analytical solution is in accordance with the numerical solution of two-dimensional Reynolds equation as the number of grooves increases.

  • An analysis based on the narrow groove theory is not suitable for the case of insufficient number of grooves or of non-rectangular shaped grooves. In this study, we present the solution of the compressible Reynolds equation for the air-lubricated hydrodynamic herringbonegrooved journal bearing with circular shaped grooves. From the results calculated numerically, optimal design values are obtained for the herringbone-grooved journal bearing.

  • In this work, a soft embossing method is proposed to fabricate microgrooves on polyimide surfaces. Apply these resulting patterned micro-grooved polyimide surfaces as the liquid crystal alignment layers. The director of liquid crystal molecules aligns perfectly along the direction of microgrooves.

  • A numerical analysis is undertaken to show tile influence of bearing design parameters on tile load capacity of air lubricated spiral grooved thrust bearing. The governing equation derived from the mass balance is solved by the finite difference method. Optimal values for various design parameters are obtained to maximize the load capacity. The design parameters are the groove angle, the groove width ratio, the groove height ratio, arid the seal ratio.

  • This study presents sealing behavior and endurance safety of V-grooved o-rings as functions of a strain, compression stress, and contact normal stress using a FEM technique. The FEM results on the sealing behavior and endurance safety show that the maximum strain, maximum compression stress, and maximum contact normal stress of V-grooved o-rings are approximately 1.2 times higher than those of conventional solid o-rings. This is why that an o-ring has a V-groove in the center between two overlapped circles, which is very effective in sealing for ball valves, pressure vessels, and gas equipment. And the extrusion failure in V-grooved o-rings does not take place under an increased gas pressure due to a V-groove. This may extend sealing life compared with that of a conventional solid o-ring.

  • A Mach-Zehnder type $Ti:LiNbO_3$ optical modulator with a grooved $SiO_2$ buffer layer, was evaluated in terms of an electrode structure. The finite element method was performed to find out the optinum design parameters of electrodes. characteristic impedance ($Z_o$), MW effective index ($N_{eff}$) and attenuation constant ($a_o$)of fabricated traveling-wave electrodes were measured and compared with those obtained by the simulation expectation. For an optical modulator with 11${\mu}m$thick electrodes and a grooved $SiO_2$ buffer layer, the 3dB bandwidth based on the RF measurement results turned out to be 18GHz.
