  • Bound abrasive grinding is used for the initial fabrication phase of the precision aspheric mirrors for both space and ground based astronomical telescopes. We developed a new grinding optimization process that determines the input grinding variables for the target surface roughness, checks the grinding error magnitude in resulting surface roughnesses, and minimizes the required machining time. Using the machining data collected from the previous grinding runs and subsequently fed into the multivariable regression engine, the process has the evolving controllability that suggests the optimum set of grinding variables for each target surface roughness. The process model was then used for ten grinding experiments that resulted in the grinding accuracy of $=-0.906{\pm}3.38(\sigma)\;nm(Ra)$ for the target surface roughnesses of Zerodur substrate ranging from 96.1 nm (Ra) to 65.0 nm (Ra) The results imply that the quantitative process optimization technique developed in this study minimizes the machining time and offers the nanometric surface roughness controllability superior to the traditional, qualitative, craftsman based grinding process for the astronomical optical surfaces.

  • Traditional bound abrasive grinding leaves the machine marks and subsurface damages ranging from 1 to few tens microns ms in height. These are removed typically by subsequent craftmen-based loose abrasive lapping, polishing and figuring. Using the multi-variable regression technique, we established a new automated grinding process control method for the removal of loose abrasive lapping from the traditional fabrication process. • Electrolytic In-process Dressing (ELID) technique for metal bonded diamond grinding wheel has been developed for mirror surface grinding of hard and brittle materials. This study process optical glass in using Electrolytic In-process Dressing. In using to main variable wheel speed (400rpm~2000rpm),feed rate (5$\mu\textrm{m}$/min~25$\mu\textrm{m}$/min),depth of cut (3$\mu\textrm{m}$~5$\mu\textrm{m}$),dressing and spray. We measured surface roughness in representative brittle materials

  • A position control method for interpolating aspherical grinding and polishing tool path was reviewed and experimented in a nano precision machine. The position-base algorithm was reformed from the time-base algorithm, proposed in the previous study. The characteristics of the algorithm were in the velocity control loop with position feedback. The aspherical surface was divided by an interval at which each velocity and acceleration were calculated. The theoretical velocity was corrected by position error during processing. In the experiment, a machine was constructed and nano-scale linear encoders were installed at each axis. Relation between process parameters and the variation of position error was monitored and discussed. The best result from optimized parameters showed that the accuracy was 150nm and improved from the previous report.

  • In this study, micro tools(WC) to produce micro-structure and parts, were fabricated ell a cylindrical grinding machine using ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) technique. The shape of the micro-carbide tool was square, corn. The size of the micro-carbide tool was measured less than 10$\mu\textrm{m}$ respectively by SEM(Scanning Electron Microscope). Furthermore, we fabricated micro structure by different processing methods on the desk top cylindrical grinding machine. The manufactured shape was like a tower and the measurement showed that the endpoint of micro structure was $50{\times}50$$\mu{\textrm}{m}$.

  • Grinding machine, one of the precision machine tool, requires high accuracy in spindle system. But, recent Inspection and Test reports by KIMM shows high inferio¬rity ratio in home-made grinding machines and points out that this is mainly due to the lack of design ability and assembling technique of spindle system. In this paper, therefore, static stiffness, dynamic characteristics, thermal defor¬mation and error motion of spindle system were studied. With these results, we presented the general data to design and assemble the spindle system. Test of spindle system modified by this study showed that several factors affecting machining accuracy were improved largely.

  • In these days, due to generalization of using smart mobile phone and wearable device such as smart watch, demand of Cover-glass and touch screen panel for protecting display increases. With increasing the demand of Cover-glass, slimming technique is promising for weight lightening, zero bezel. Cover-glass produced by this technique is required to decreasing thickness with increase strength. In the Cover-glass manufacturing process, mechanical processing and chemical processing has improve in the strength. Generally, Diamond electrodeposition wheel is used in mechanical process. Reinforced glass with the characteristics of the brittle and high hardness was manufactured by using a diamond electrodeposition wheel. At this time, Because of surface of the tool present non-uniform distribution of diamond particle, it has generate Loading of wheel and it has been decrease life of grinding tool, efficiency of grinding, quality and shape accuracy of workpiece. Thus Research is needed to controling particle distribution of diamond electrodeposition wheel uniformly. And it is necessary to study micro hole machining such as proximity senser hole, speaker hole positioned Cover-glass. Reinforced glass with the characteristics of the brittle and high hardness is difficult to machining. Processing of reinforced glass have generated wear of tool, micro cracks. Also, it is decreasing shape accuracy. In this paper, We conducted a study on how to control particle distribution uniformly about the diamond tool manufactured using elecetodeposition processing. It analyzed the factors that affect the arrangement of the particles in the electrodeposition process by design of experiment. And There is produced the grinding tool, which derives an optimum deposition conditions, for processing Cover-glass edge and the machinability was evaluated.

  • We have studied the sawing sach as the round brilliant cut, cushion barion cut and marquise cut. Through this study, we could examined the rate of waste from the grinding work, and find a solution for many problems which could be derived from the grinding work. We could reduce the rate of waste by this study about sawing technique; 2.5 % for round brilliant cut, 2.5 % for cushion barion cut and 5.5 % for marquise cut.

  • With increasing the needs for micro and precision parts, micro machining technology using micro tools has been studied to fabricate a small part with high density such as electronics, optics, communications, and medicine industry more than before. Though these micro tools have developed rapidly, it is difficult to apply them to micro fabrication technologies, because of the inherent manufacturing. In this study, micro tools(wc) to produce micro structures and parts were manufactured by cylindrical grinding machine employing ELID(Electrolytic In-process Dressing) technique and good dimensional accuracy was achieved. Furthermore we researched the characteristics of machining on the micro drilling using micro drills and manufactured micro tools. Finally it is confirmed that manufactured micro tools can be used for micro machining.

  • The prolonged mechanical grinding process may enhance the bioavailability of the drugs due to the change of solid state such as micronization and decrease of crystallinity. A series of attempts to enhance the bioavailability of insoluble drugs have been made by the fine grinding technique using a planetary mill. The objective of the present study is to investigate the possibility of improving the dissolution properties of poorly water- soluble drugs such as diphenyl hydrantoin (phenytoin) and diphenyl dimethyl dicarboxylate (DDB) based on the molecular interaction between drug and additives during pharmaceutical processing to be related with the bioavailability behavior.
