  • This work was conducted to find the operating characteristics of an efficient wet grinding system designed to obtain fine rice husk ash powder. Once the rice husk was combusted and the thermal energy was recovered from the furnace, the ash was fed and pulverized in the grinding system resulting a fine powder to be used as a supplementary adding material to the portland cement. Grinding time (15, 30, 45 min), impeller speed (250, 500, 750 rpm), and mixed ratio (6.7, 8.4, 11.l, 20.9) were three operating factors examined for the performance of a wet-type stirred ball mill grinding system. For the operating conditions employed, mean diameter of fine ash powder, specific energy input, and grinding energy efficiency were in the range of $2.83{\sim}9.58{\mu}m,\;0.5{\sim}6.73kWh/kg,\;and\;0.51{\sim}3.27m^2/Wh$, respectively. With the wet-type stirred ball mill grinding system used in this study, the grinding energy efficiency decreased with the increase in total grinding time, impeller speed, and mixed ratio. The difference in specific surface area of powder linearly increased with logarithm in total number of impeller revolution and the grinding energy efficiency linearly decreased. Grinding time of 45 min, impeller speed of 500 rpm, and mixed ratio of 6.7 were chosen as the best operating condition. At this condition, mean particle diameter of the fine ash, grinding energy efficiency, grinding throughput, and specific energy input were $2.84{\mu}m,\;2.28m^2/Wh,\;0.17kg/h$, and 2.03kWh/kg, respectively. Wet fine grinding which generates no fly dust causing pollution and makes continuous operation easy, is appeared to be a promising solution to the automatization of rice husk ash grinding process.

  • Grinding operations is accomplished by rotating a gfinding wheel with lots of random abrasive at high speed, and its object is generally obtained the fanal workpiece surface of high quality as well as the maximization of workpiece removal rate. But, especiallysince grinding operations is related with a large amount of functional parameter, it is actually difficult to therapy that the grinding trouble occurs during the grinding process. Therefore, we trytodesign grinding trouble-shooting system utilizing the back-propagation model of neural network. The conceptual method is produced byidentifying the four parameters derived from the grinding power, and we are design te to the grinding trouble-shooting system on the basis of their data. In this paper, cognition and therapy method tothe grinding trouble which utilizes neural network based four identified models are suggested, and implementation results of computer simulation with respect to the grinding burn and chatter vibration is presented.

  • In surface grinding, the contact between the grinding wheel and the workpiece introduces heat and resistance, which restrict the self-dressing of the grits and result in burrs and cracks on the workpiece. Therefore, before or during th grinding wheel for more accurate performance. In order to determine the dressing time monitoring method of grinding wheel in surface grinding, a three-dimensional computer simulation of the grinding operation has been attempted based on the contact mechanism and surface-shaping system between the grinding wheel and the workpiece. The optimal dressing time is determined based on the amount of the grain wear and work surface roughness.

  • Cognition and control of grinding trouble occurring during the grinding process are classified into a quantitative knowledge which depends on experimental data and qualitative knowledge which relies on skiful engineers. grinding operations include a large number of functional parameters since there are several ways of coping with ginding trouble. One is the qualitative method which depends on empirical knowledge utilizing the skilful experts from the workshop the other is the quantitative method which utilizes the experimental data obtained by sensor. But they are all difficult to accomplish from the grinding trouble-shooting system The reason is that grinding troubles are not accomplish from the grinding trouble-shooting system,. The rason is that grinding troubles are not easily controlled in the quantitative method and therefore trouble-shooting has mainly relied on the knoledge of skiful engineers. Thus there is an important issue of how a grinding touble-shooting system can be designed and what knowledge is utilized among the large amount of grinding trouble information. In this paper basic strategy to develop the grinding database by taking rule-based model which is strongly depended upon experience and intuition is described.
