  • This paper introduces a near-tip grid refinement and explores its usefulness in the crack analysis by the natural element method(NEM). As a sort of local h-refinement in finite element method(FEM), a NEM grid is locally refined around the crack tip showing high stress singularity. This local grid refinement is completed in two steps in which grid points are added and Delaunay triangles sharing the crack tip node are divided. A plane strain rectangular plate with symmetric edge cracks is simulated to validate the proposed local grid refinement and to examine its usefulness in the crack analysis. The crack analysis is also simulated using a uniform NEM grid for comparison. Unlike the uniform grid, the refined grid provides near-tip stress distributions similar to the analytic solutions and the fine grid. In addition, the refined grid shows higher convergence than the uniform grid, the global relative error to the total number of grid points.

  • The Grid code is being strengthen as increase of renewable energy ratio. Especially, the grid connection regulations are continuously being updated for stable operation of power grids. Static grid support and Dynamic grid support must make an accurate measure at Grid connected point because they needs control algorithm individually. It has to exactly measure voltage including switching ripple at the output of the inverter generating system. In addition, it is necessary to have an accurate voltage measurement when the situation rapidly changing the grid impedance is caused by the input of serial impedance of transformer and line impedance as well as Grid Fault Device. In this paper, We propose a new detection method of grid voltage to calculate accurately the r.m.s voltage of the grid connection point along the standard required by the low voltage regulation. We verified performance through simulation grid fault device.

The crack analysis is also simulated using a uniform NEM grid for the sake of comparison. The near-tip stress distributions and SIFs that are obtained using a near-tip refined NEM grid are compared with the exact values and those obtained using uniform NEM grid. The convergence rates of global relative error to the total number of grid points between the refined and non-refined NEM grids are also compared.

  • This paper presents a method of topological modeling using only low-cost sonar sensors. The proposed method constructs a topological model by extracting sub-regions from the local grid map. The extracted sub-regions are considered as nodes in the topological model, and the corresponding edges are generated according to the connectivity between two sub-regions. A grid confidence for each occupied grid is evaluated to obtain reliable regions in the local grid map by filtering out noisy data. Moreover, a convexity measure is used to extract sub-regions automatically. Through these processes, the topological model is constructed without predefining the number of sub-regions in advance and the proposed method guarantees the convexity of extracted sub-regions. Unlike previous topological modeling methods which are appropriate to the corridor-like environment, the proposed method can give a reliable topological modeling in a home environment even under the noisy sonar data. The performance of the proposed method is verified by experimental results in a real home environment.

  • A grid adaptation method within systems of chimera and patched grids is presented. Problem domains are divided into near-body and off-body fields. Near-body field is filled with curvilinear body-fitted grids that extend only a short distance from body surfaces and connected to other grid systems via chimera domain connectivity method. Off-body field is filled with patched uniform cartesian grids of varying levels of refinement. This method gives flexibility in grid generation and efficient adaptation capability. Several numerical experiments including 2D store separation were performed to show the performance of the proposed adaptation method.

  • This paper suggests an automatic elliptic grid generation method that is well-suited for the numerical mapping of complex geometries which are easily obtained from general CAD programs. An LBLADI solver is used for the governing mapping equations to have the strong diagonal dominance. The full boundary control method is adopted to determine the control functions of the equations, which allows the control of the grid regarding spacing and angle control at all boundary surfaces. The solution method presented here provides the capability of mapping very complicated geometries by defining grid point locations only along the boundaries. In the automated elliptic grid generation procedure, it is showed that strong diagonal dominance is essential to achieve successful mapping irrespective of the initial grid condition provided. To demonstrate the robustness of this method, it is applied to the thermal flow like the natural convection between eccentric cylinders. The results agree well with others.

  • This paper presents the algorithm of the compensation of the grid current distortion caused by the grid voltage unbalance and distortion in 3-phase bi-directional DC to AC inverter. Usually 3-phase grid system has unbalance and distortion because of connecting 1-phase and non-linear load with 3-phase load using same input node. Controlling 3-phase inverter by general method under the unbalanced and distorted grid voltage, the grid current has distortion. This distortion of the grid current cause the grid voltage distortion again. So, it need to control the grid current balanced and non-distorted, even the grid voltage gets unbalanced and distorted. There are some complex method to compensate the gird current distortion. it sugest simple method to solve the problem. PSIM simulation is used to validate the proposed algorithm.

  • Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach is now playing an important role in the engineering process in these days. Generating proper grid system in time for the region of interest is prerequisite for the efficient numerical calculation of flow physics using CFD approach. Grid generation is, however, usually considered as a major obstacle for a routine and successful application of numerical approaches in the engineering process. CFD approach based on the unstructured grid system is gaining popularity due to its simplicity and efficiency for generating grid system compared to the structured grid approaches, especially for complex geometries. In this paper an automated triangular surface grid generation using CAD(Computer Aided Design) surface data is proposed. According to the present method, the CAD surface data imported in the STL(Stereo-lithography) format is processed to identify feature edges defining the topology and geometry of the surface shape first. When the feature edges are identified, node points along the edges are distributed. The initial fronts which connect those feature edge nodes are constructed and then they are advanced along the CAD surface data inward until the surface is fully covered by triangular surface grid cells using Advancing Front Method. It is found that this approach can be implemented in an automated way successfully saving man-hours and reducing human-errors in generating triangular surface grid system.

  • Renewable energy is being spotlighted as the electric power generating source for the next generation. Due to an increase in renewable energy systems in the grid system, their impact on the grid has become non-negligible. Thus, many countries in the world, including Europe, present their own grid codes for grid power conversion devices. In order to experiment with these grid codes, grid fault test equipment is required. This paper proposes both equipment and a control method, which are constructed with a 7-level cascaded H-bridge converter, that are capable of generating various grid faults. In addition, the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) method for multilevel converters is compared and analyzed. The proposed structure, the control method, and the PWM method are verified through simulation and experimental results.
