In this paper, a new active damping method of LCL filter without capacitor voltage sensors is proposed for 3 phase PWM Inverter. Normally, L filter or LCL filter is used as an output filter of grid connected PWM inverter. An LCL filter has more excellent performance than L filter to reduce harmonic current, so the small inductance value can be used. However, the resonance problem in LCL filter is happen due to the zero impedance by the addition of LC branch. To solve the resonance problem, the various active damping method has been proposed so far. Generally, the virtual resistor active damping methods is required to additional hardware sensors for measurement of capacitor voltage and current. In this paper, the new active damping method is proposed without any capacitor voltage or current sensors. In the proposed method, the resonance component of the capacitor voltage of LCL filter can be observed by a simple MRAS(Model Reference Adaptive System) observer without additional hardware sensors, and this component is suppressed by feedforward compensation. The validity of the proposed method is proven by simulation and experiment on the 3-phase PWM inverter system.

Renewable energy resources are rapidly becoming an integral part of electricity generation portfolios around the world due to declining costs, government subsidies, and corporate sustainability goal. Interacting wind, solar, and load forecast errors can create significant unpredictable impacts on the distribution system, feeder congestion, voltage standard and reactive power stability margins. These impacts will be increasing with the increasing penetration levels of variable renewable generation in the power systems. There is a limit to the maximum amount of renewable energy sources that can be connected in a distribution feeder by the connection rule of transmission & distribution facility in Korea. This study represents the decision plans of hosting capacity for distribution feeders without the need for significant upgrades to the existing transmission infrastructure. Especially, the paper suggests and discusses the hosting capacity standard of feeder cables and minimum load calculation of distribution feeders.
Purpose: In this study, we evaluate the annual energy performance of the detached house which was designed with the aim of zero energy. Method: The experimental house which was constructed in Gonju Chungnam in 2013, is the single family detached house of light weight wood frame with $100m^2$ of heating area. Thermal transmittance of roof (by ISO 10211) and building external walls are designed as $0.10W/m^2K$ and $0.14W/m^2$ respectively and low-e coating vacuum window glazing with PVC frame was installed. Also grid connected PV system and natural-circulation solar water heater was applied and 6kWp capacity of photovoltaic module was installed in pitched roof and $5m^2$ of solar collector in vertical wall facing the south. We analyzed the 2014 annual data of the detached house in which residents were actually living, measured though web-based remote monitoring system. Result: First, as a result, total annual energy consumption and energy production (PV generation and solar hot water) are 7,919kWh and 7,689kWh respectively and the rate of energy independence is 97.1% which is almost close to the zero energy. Second, plug load and hot water of energy consumption by category showed the highest numbers each with 33% and 31%, with following space heating 24%, electric cooker 8%, lighting 3% in order. Hot water supply is relatively higher than space heating because high insulation makes it decreased.

In this paper, the test bed using three-phase PWM converter connected with single phase inverter in series is set up to configure an active AC electric load. Since the two topologies, three-phase PWM converter and single-phase inverter, can be operated bidirectionally, the system not only re-generates surplus power to grid but also prevents power dissipation. However, the construction of system has a drawback. That is, ripple components two times of inverter operation frequency occur at DC-Link due to cascade connection, it can be cause of three phase unbalance Since the operational characteristic of the active AC electric load, the power frequency entered into the electric load can be varied, and the ripple of DC-Link is changed as well. In this paper, the three-phase PWM converter using a variable notch filter is proposed, and the reduction of three-phase current unbalance is presented. the validity of the proposed PWM converter using a variable notch filter is verified by the simulation and experimental results.

Campus microgrid is designed and built by considering not only power generation but also power consumption management as connected microgrid type because the main goal of the campus microgrid is to save power consumption costs. There are many functions to achieve the goal and they are mainly to use generation-based functions such as islanding operation for peak management and for emergency events. In power distribution operation, Conservation Voltage Reduction (CVR) is applied in order to reduce power consumption. The CVR is defined as a function for load consumption reduction by voltage reduction in order to reduce peak demands and energy consumption. However, application of CVR to microgrid is difficult because the microgrid cannot control a tap of transformer in a substation and the microgrid normally is not designed with phase modifying equipment like a step-voltage-regulator which can control voltage in power distribution system operation. In addition, an impact of the CVR is depended on load characteristics such as a normal load, a rated power, and synchronous motors. Therefore, this paper proposes an application of CVR using linear voltage control based AVR in campus microgrid with power consumption reduction considering characteristics of load and component in the microgrid. The proposed system can be applied to each buildings by a configuration of power distribution cables; and the application results and CVR factor are presented in this paper.

In modern society, the number of industrial customers using equipment sensitive particularly to voltage sags is rapidly increasing. As voltage sags can cause loss of information as well as false operation of the control device, it results in the vast economic damage in industrial processes. One way to mitigate voltage sags in the sensitive loads is the installation of distributed generation (DGs) on the periphery of these loads. In addition, renewable energy sources are currently in the spot light as the potential solution for the energy crisis and environmental issues. In particular, wind power generation which is connected to a grid is rising rapidly because it is energy efficient and also economically feasible compared to other renewable energy sources. On the basis of the above information, in this paper, with Wind Turbine Generators (WTGs) installed nearby the sensitive load, the analysis of the mitigating effect comparison by types of WTGs is performed using voltage sag assessment on the IEEE-30 bus test system. That is, the areas of vulnerability according to types of WTGs are expected to be different by how much reactive power is produced or consumed as WTG reactive power capability is related to the types of WTGs. Using the concept of 'Vulnerable area' with the failure rate for buses and lines, the annual number of voltage sags at the sensitive load with the installation of WTGs per type is studied. This research will be anticipated to be useful data when determining the interconnection of wind power generation in the power system with the consideration of voltage sags.
A microgrid (MG) with integrated renewable energy resources can benefit both utility companies and customers. As a result, they are attracting a great deal of attention. The control of a MG is very important for the stable operation of a MG. The droop-control method is popular since it avoids circulating currents among the converters without using any critical communication between them. Traditional droop control methods have the drawback of an inherent trade-off between power sharing and voltage and frequency regulation. An adaptive droop control method is proposed, which can operate in both the island mode and the grid-connected mode. It can also ensure smooth switching between these two modes. Furthermore, the voltage and frequency of a MG can be restored by using the proposed droop controller. Meanwhile, the active power can be dispatched appropriately in both operating modes based on the capacity or running cost of the Distributed Generators (DGs). The global information (such as the average voltage and output active power of the MG and so on) required by the proposed droop control method to restore the voltage and frequency deviations can be acquired distributedly based on the Multi Agent System (MAS). Simulation studies in PSCAD demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed control method.
The purpose of this study is to develop means to apply GIS and remote sensing technology to the analysis of Korean urban open spaces. To achieve this objective, a framework of analysis of urban open spaces was developed, and then the framework was applied for the evaluation of the potential and suitability of open spaces of Ansan City, which is a new town developed to accomodate industries relocation from Seoul, Korea, mainly due to their pollution problems. The software used in this study are IDRISI, a grid-based GIS, and KMIPS, a remote sensing analysis system. Both packages are based on IBM PC/AT computers with Microsoft DOS. Landsat MSS and TM data were used for the land use classification, land use change detection, and analysis of transformed vegetation indices. The size of the geographic data base is 110 rows and 150 columns with the spatial resolution of 100m$\times$100m. The framework of analysis includes both quanititative and qualitative analysis of open spaces. The quantitative analysis includes size and distribution of open spaces, urban develpment of open spaces, and the degree of vegree of vegetation removal of the study area. The qualitative analysis includes evaluative criteria for primary productivity of land, park use potential, major visual resources, and urban environmental control. The findings of this study can be summarized as follows. First, the size of builtup areas increased 18.73km$^2$, while the size of forest land decreased 10.86km$^2$ during last ten years. Agricultural lands maintained its size, but shifted toward outside of the city into forest. Second, the potential of open spaces for park use is limited mainly due to their lack of accessibility and connectivity among open spaces, in spite of ample acreage and good site conditions. Third, major landscape elements and historic sites should be connected to the open space system of the city by new accesses and buffers.

Alternative marine power (AMP) is continuously used in ports and on docks because of regulations on global ship emission reduction. In Korea, the use of AMP is also mandatory under the Special Act on Port Air Quality Improvement, and efforts are under way in connection with various eco-friendly ships, such as electric-propulsion ships. In this study, AC load flow analysis was performed by modeling the situation in which onboard power is supplied through AMP. This analysis made it possible to study the electrical parameters and losses when power was supplied to the ship. In addition, through a transient stability analysis, the high-speed generation transfer limit value for uninterruptible conversion through onboard generators in the event of a system accident was derived. The results obtained when it was applied are presented

Hybrid power storage system with emergency power function for demand management and power outage minimizes the investment cost in the building of buildings and factories requiring emergency power generation facilities, We propose a new business model by developing technology that can secure economical efficiency by reducing power cost at all times. Normally, system power is supplied to load through STS (Static Transfer Switch), and PCS is connected to system in parallel to perform demand management. In order to efficiently operate the electric power through demand forecasting, the EMS issues a charge / discharge command to the ESS as a PMS (Power Management System), and the PMS transmits the command to the PCS controller to operate the system. During the power outage, the STS is rapidly disengaged from the system, and the PCS becomes an independent power supply and can supply constant voltage / constant frequency power to the load side. Therefore, it is possible to secure reliability through verification of actual system linkage and independent operation performance of hybrid ESS, By enabling low-carbon green growth technology to operate in conjunction with an efficient grid, it is possible to improve irregular power quality and contribute to peak load by generating renewable energy through ESS linkage. In addition, the ESS is replacing the frequency follow-up reserve, which is currently under the charge of coal-fired power generation, and thus it is anticipated that the operation cost of the LNG generator with high fuel cost can be reduced.
