The purposes of this research are to estimate area of greenable roof and to monitor maintaining of green roofs using World-View 2 images. The contents of this research are development of World-View 2 application technologies for estimation of green roof area and development of monitoring and maintaining of green roofs using World-View 2 images. The available green roof areas in Gwangjin-gu Seoul, a case for this study, were estimated using digital maps and World-View 2 images. The available green roof area is approximately 12.17% ($2,153,700m^2$) of the total area, and the roof vegetation accounts for 0.46% ($80,660m^2$) of the total area. For verification of the extracted roof vegetation, Vworld 3D Desktop map service was applied. The study results may be used as a decision-making tool by the government and local governments in determining the feasibility of green roof projects. In addition, the project implementer may periodically monitor to see whether roof greening has maintained for efficient management of projects, and a vast amount of World-View 2 images may be regularly used before and after the projects to contribute to sharing of satellite images information.

The green roof industry have been developed with Europe, North America, Japan. At the same time, being recognized the important of green roofs in domestic industry and we just start to develop the relative technology as analyzing the future direction of advanced technology. Recently, local self-government including Seoul support the system for green roof which provide 50% of working expenses form of Matching Fund by Seed Money. As years go by, the number of build up the green roof has gradually increased to be proved. At this result caused by management of system in government, unstructured construction system, low development of support technology. In this study as analyzing the present of technical development, supporting by law and system for the advanced waterproofing and root penetration resistance technology, we suggest the development direction of it to be compared with application advanced technology and we could strengthen the international competitiveness to be industrialized the green roof considering system, technology, human infrastructure.
Recently, concerns about conserving proper size of urban green spaces and accessibility are increasing, regarding it as a solution to diverse urban environmental problems including pollution, ecosystem deterioration, urban climate change. Artificial ground greening such as green roofs is regarded as the only alternative that can conserve green spaces which are impossible to be secured on the ground. However, green roofs are not popularized yet and levels are very low in provincial cities despite of related technology development and support systems of related agencies. Based on the background, this study tries to present a theoretical basis of methods for green roofs, conducting green roof simulations Finally, it aims to offer base data which help establish policy direction for activation of green roof technology. As a result of a simulation for verifying temperature reduction effect, it was possible to affirm effect of a plot that green roofs applied. Especially, it was revealed that a green roof method using ground covers such as mixed planting was the most effective way to reduce temperature. Based on precise analysis of the users, actual study for activation of green roofs should be developed in the future, by presenting a standard model for experiments and obtaining information about examples of green roofs on private houses.

Roof greening recently emerged to be an important issue of environmental policies in a city. To cover roofs of buildings with green vegetation gives chances not only to improve urban environmental function but also provides the opportunities of environmental learning and convenience for users in the building. This study aimed to give directions for roof greening plan to designers by acknowledging the relationships between ecological and utilizational effectiveness. 10 sites and 15 variables were adopted to measure the relationships. As a result, no positive correlations was found between them. One of the results in correlation analysis among variables, however, showed that the roof gardens have high utilizational effectiveness only when a green roof was made by focusing on ecological functions in addition to the concepts that will guarantee user's convenience such as accessibility, entrance and exit, facilities for convenience and learning. The results implies that a green roof has to be designed considering multi-functional effects. Correlation between species of vegetation and the number of daily users, average staying hours, and attending level for environment educational programs were not significant. These findings imply that when a green roof has to be take high utilizational effectiveness, both plentiful vegetation species and design concepts for users' convenience are should be considered.

Rapid urbanization has taken environmental toll on the surrounding which can be witnessed by the advent of global warming and climate change. Driven by environmental needs, Green Building Index (GBI) was established in Malaysia to drive initiative to lead the property industry towards becoming more environmental friendly. Green roofs (roof with vegetated cover) as one of the assessment criteria of GBI, are gaining attention in the Malaysian society as a versatile new environmental friendly mitigation technology. This paper evaluates the qualitative and quantitative performances of an extensive green roof at Humid Tropics Centre under local tropical climate. Simulations showed that the extensive green roof system could reduce the peak discharge up to 26% in relation to impervious brown roof. Its reduction ability decreased for storms with intense rainfall. Increment of pH was observed for the green roof runoff and the runoff water quality ranged between class I and II under Water Quality Index (WQI). High concentrations of phosphate were noticed in the runoff samples and substrates (fertilized planting soil) might be the potential contributor. Findings indicate that there was a reduction of around $1.5^{\circ}C$ for indoor temperature of the building after installation of the extensive green roof.
The Purpose of this study is development and analysis of Effluence Characteristic of the Rainfall in the IRMA Green Roof System(developed in KICT) Plus 50 program is an internal research project at KICT(Korean Institute of Construction Technology) which has it as an object ; to lengthen the building's life 50-year or more and reduce energy conception 50% than present. Green roof system is one of the most important theme in the Plus 50 program. Generally, a Green Roof System has a positive effect on the thermal conductivity in winter, the micro cooling effect on building and city by evaporation in summer, the flood-control effect by runoff-reduction or the treated rainwater-quality of green roof system and so on. However, inspection of the physical effect of green roof system does not consider in Korea. Above all, long-term monitoring and a whole observation of green roof system is needed to probate the effect. So a new experimental method could be tried in this research, which is never attempted in Korea. The measurement by a bucket with a great volume, 1L, gives a new dimension of measuring green roof effect to measure the permanent running flood from a wide roof. This offers a reasonable result on a long-term measuring of a running water. Additionally, the thermal behavior of the IRMA(Insulated Roof Membrane Assembly), known in the western europe as a reasonable solution at green roof system by economical benefits and easy construction, would be experimented.

Based on the increasing demand for a solution to reduce thermal load, extensive green roofs have great opportunity for application to existing roofs due to their light-weight and easy maintenance. The present study delivers data regarding thermal behavior and heat reduction potential in relation to vegetation coverage between green roof types. 1) In the hottest hour in a day, green roofs showed considerable potential to mitigate heat load in roof environments, which can be up to $10^{\circ}C$ difference. 2) Compared to conventional cement roofs, the extensive green roofs only have a slight potential to cool the air over green roofs. By statistical analysis of linear regression, green coverage has little to do with the reduction of air temperature; the cooling effect was proven only in nighttime. 3) Green roofs act as an insulating roof membrane, the inner substrate of green roofs remained cooler than cement roof surfaces in the daytime, but in the nighttime the green roofs generally were warmer than the cement roof surfaces. 4) The variable of vegetation coverage resulted in no significant difference in thermal behavior in the air, but had the greatest effect in keeping the substrate cool in the daytime. The high vegetation coverage also hindered the rapid cooling of the substrate in the nighttime, and therefore was warmer than other measured temperatures. In order to draw a clear conclusion to combat urban heat island effect with extensive green roofs, the experiment needs to be applied on a larger scale.

Especially, it was revealed that a green roof method using ground covers such as mixed planting was the most effective way to reduce temperature. Activation methods for green roofs based on this study are as follows: First, it is a priority to readjust systems related to green roofs. Second, citizens' active and voluntary participation must be attained. Third, it is required to establish detailed promotion procedures which aim at actual conduct and to maintain an expert department which is able to manage and control the establishment. After conduct, continuous aftercare stages are also needed.
