A Study on the Monitoring System for Green-house Gases from Electric Rolling Stock (전기철도차량 온실가스 모니터링 방안 연구)

  • Along with response of the Climactic Change Convention, the government is demanding a measuring and reporting system for green-house gas emission and energy consumption on the railroad sector in order to make a transition to a low carbon green railroad system. According to the plans to electric railway line and increase the number of electric rolling stock, the electric consumption is increasing more than the consumption of diesel. Therefore, the development of monitoring device for green-house gases became important issue. In this study we developed a prototype of the monitoring system for estimating electric consumption. This study is expected to make accurate GHG emission inventory and be used to have confidence of emission factor.

  • ZnO thin films were deposited on (001) sapphire substrate at various ambient gas pressure by pulsed laser deposition(PLD). Oxygen was used as ambient gas, and oxygen gas pressure was varied from 1.0${\times}$10$\^$-6/ Torr to 500 mTorr during the film deposition. As oxygen gas pressure increase in the region below critical pressure photoluminescence(PL) intensity in UV and green region increase. As oxygen gas pressure increase in the region above critical pressure photoluminescence(PL) intensity in UV and green region decrease. Each of critical ambient gas Pressures was 350 mTorr for UV emission and 200 mTorr for green emission.

Long-lifetime Green Phosphorescent OLEDs for Low Power Displays

  • We demonstrate a new commercial green phosphorescent organic light emitting device (OLED) in a bottom emission device and top emission microcavity. The bottom and top emitting phosphorescent OLEDs (PHOLED$^{TM}$s) had luminance efficiencies of 60cd/A and 137cd/A respectively, at a luminance of 1,000cd/$m^2$. The top emission microcavity was close to 1953 NTSC color requirements with 1931 CIE color coordinates of 0.231, 0.718. A record green PHOLED lifetime of >3,500hrs to LT95 from 4000cd/$m^2$ is demonstrated for the microcavity device.

Haematococcus pluvialis Cell-Mass Sensing Using Ultraviolet Fluorescence Spectroscopy

  • A simple whole-cell-based sensing system is proposed for determining the cell mass of H. pluvialis using ultraviolet fluorescence spectroscopy. An emission signal at 368 nm was used to detect the various kinds of green, green-brown, brown-red, and red H. pluvialis cells. The fluorescence emission intensities of the cells were highest at 368 nm with an excitation wavelength of 227 nm. An excitation wavelength of 227 nm was then selected for cell-mass sensing, as the emission fluorescence intensities of the cell suspensions were highest at this wavelength after subtracting the background interference. The emission fluorescence intensities of HPLC-grade water, filtered water, and HPLC-grade water containing a modified Bold's basal medium (MBBM) were measured and the difference was less than 1.6 for the selected wavelengths. Moreover, there was no difference in the emission intensity at 368 nm among suspensions of the various morphological states of the cells. A calibration curve of the fluorescence emission intensities. and cell mass was obtained with a high correlation ($R^2=0.9938$) for the various morphological forms of H. pluvialis. Accordingly, the proposed method showed no significant dependency on the various morphological cell forms, making it applicable for cell-mass measurement. A high correlation was found between the fluorescence emission intensities and the dry cell weight with a mixture of green, green-brown, brown-red, and red cells. In conclusion, the proposed model can be directly used for cell-mass sensing without any pretreatment and has potential use as a noninvasive method for the online determination of algal biomass.

  • The color shifting from yellow to green of electroluminescent emission from ZnS: Cu alternating current thick film electroluminescent (ACTFEL) devices has been achieved by changing the Mg composition in the phosphor layers. The commission international de l'Eclairge (CIE) color co-ordinates of the ACTFEL devices prepared from these phosphor layers show a shifting from yellow (x=0.45, y=0.52) towards green (x=0.36, y=0.58). The various parameters influencing the emission intensity were also investigated.

  • Mg$_2$SnO$_4$having an inverse spinel structure was selected as a new host material of $Mn^{2+}$ activator. The luminescence of the $Mg_2$SnO$_4$:Mn phosphor prepared by the solid-state reaction were investigated under ultraviolet and low-voltage electron excitation. The Mn-doped magnesium tin oxide exhibited strong green emission with the spectrum centered at 500nm wavelength. It was explained that the green emission in $Mg_2$SnO$_4$:Mn phosphor is due to energy transfer from $^4T_1to ^6A_1\;of\; Mn^{2+}$ ion at tetrahedral site in the spinel structure. The optimum concentration of $Mn^{2+}$/ion exhibiting maximum emission intensity by the low-voltage electron excitation was 0.6mol%. ?

  • CO2 emission makes up more than 80% of whole green gas. Therefore CO2 is recognized as the main culprit of global warming. IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) is advising the 3 methods measuring CO2 emission. TIER1 is measured CO2 emission by criteria the energy consumption, TIER2 measure by criteria the emission factor according to the emission control technique each kind of vehicle, TIER3 is measured by criteria the distance each kind of vehicle. Currently, the most of CO2 emission measurement is used by TIER1. But it is not standardized that CO2 emission measurement method have the factor as work condition each distance. Specially, it is not suggest that methodology has the condition changing load of equipment according to site condition and the same position work as construction equipment. So, this study is suggested the CO2 emission measurement methodology of construction equipment.

Estimation of Uncertainty on Greenhouse Gas Emission in the Agriculture Sector (농업분야 온실가스 배출량 산정의 불확도 추정 및 평가)

  • Analysis and evaluation of uncertainty is adopting the advanced methodology among the methods for greenhouse gas emission assessment that was defined in GPS2000 (Good practice guideline 2000) and GPG-LULUCF (GPG Land Use, Land-Use Change and Forestry). In 2006 IPCC guideline, two approaches are suggested to explain the uncertainty for each section with a national net emission and a prediction value on uncertainty as follows; 1) Spread sheet calculation based on the error propagation algorithm that was simplified with some assumptions, and 2) Monte carlo simulation that can be utilized in general purposes. There are few researches on the agricultural field including greenhouse gas emission that is generated from livestock and cultivation lands due to lack of information for statistic data, emission coefficient, and complicated emission formula. The main objective of this study is to suggest an evaluation method for the uncertainty of greenhouse gas emission in agricultural field by means of intercomparison of the prediction value on uncertainties which were estimated by spread sheet calculation and monte carlo simulation. A statistic analysis for probability density function for uncertainty of emission rate was carried out by targeting livestock intestinal fermentation, excrements treatment, and direct/indirect emission from agricultural lands and rice cultivation. It was suggested to minimize uncertainty by means of extraction of emission coefficient according to each targeting section.

Effect of Application Rate of Hairy Vetch on Ammonia Emission from Paddy Soil (논에서 헤어리베치 시용량에 따른 암모니아 휘산량 평가)

  • BACKGROUND: Hairy ventch (Vicia villosa) is a good green manure for supplying nitrogen in arable soil. Ammonia emission from rice fields can occur, and the degree of this emission can be great. However, quantitative information of ammonia emission from paddy soil using green manure is required to obtain emission factors for rice cropping in Korea. METHODS AND RESULTS: Ammonia emission from flooding soil with different application rate of hairy vetch was measured using the closed chamber method. For this study, hairy vetch was applied at rates of 0 (control), 500 (H500), 1000 (H1000), 2000 (H2000), and 3000 (H3000) kg/ha (fresh matter basis). This experiment was conducted for 54 days under flooding condition. The total NH3 emission throughout the experiment period was 0.32, 0.54, 1.20, 4.20, and 6.20 kg/ha for control, H500, H1000, H2000, and H3000, respectively. The ratio of NH3 emission to applied nitrogen by hairy vetch for each treatment was 0.7, 1.4, 3.2, and 3.2% for H500, H1000, H2000, and H3000, respectively. CONCLUSION(S): A very small amount of ammonia emission was recorded in the present study. Therefore, the use of hairy vetch in paddy field instead of chemical fertilizer can reduce ammonia emissions.

A Study on Green Space Location Selection to Reduce Particulate Matter by Projecting Distributions of Emission Source and Vulnerable Groups - focusing on Seongdong-gu, Seoul - (미세먼지 배출원과 취약계층 분포 추정을 통한 미세먼지 저감 녹지 입지 선정 연구 - 서울시 성동구를 대상으로 -)

  • The study aims to propose a locating method of green space for reducing Particulate Matter (PM) in ambient air in conjunction with its source traces and vulnerable groups. In order to carry out the aims and purposes, a literature review was conducted to derive indicators of vulnerable area to PM. Based on the developed indicators, the vulnerable areas and green spaces creation strategies for each cluster were developed for the case of Seongdong-gu, Seoul. As a result, six indicators for vulnerability analysis were came out including the vulnerable groups (children's facilities, old people's facilities), emission sources (air pollutant emission workplaces, roads), and environmental indicators (particulate matter concentration, NDVI). According to the six selected indicators, the target area was divided into 39 hexagons and analyzed to result the most vulnerable areas to particulate matter. As a result of comprehensive vulnerability analysis, the Seongsu-dong area was found to be the most vulnerable to particulate matter, and 5 clusters were derived through k-means cluster analysis. Cluster 1 was analyzed as areas that most vulnerable to particulate matter as a result of the comprehensive analysis, therefore urgent need to create green spaces to reduce particulate matter. Cluster 2 was areas that mostly belonged to the Han River. Cluster 3 corresponds to the largest number of hexagons, and since many vulnerable groups are distributed, it was analyzed as a cluster that required the creation of a green spaces to reduce particulate matter, focusing on facilities for vulnerable groups. Three hexagons are included in cluster 4, and the cluster has many roads and lacks vegetation in common. Cluster 5 has a lot of green spaces and is generally distributed with fewer vulnerable groups and emission sources; however, it has a high level of particulate matter concentration. In a situation where various green spaces creation projects for reducing particulate are being implemented, it is necessary to consider the vulnerable groups and emission sources and to present green space creation strategies for each space characteristic in order to increase the effectiveness of such projects. Therefore, this study is regarded as meaningful in suggesting a method for selecting a green area for reducing PM.
