Herbal pathies (Unani, Ayurveda) need to review their way of research

  • World health organization has recently published a strategic plan for the development and promotion of traditional system of medicine. Herbal pathies especially Unani and Ayurvedic systems of medicines have great scope in this aspect. But, there are several problems with these pathies in the current era, as the way of research and identification is still on classical system. The correct identification of medicinal plant is one of the major problems in both the system. This should be corrected with the modern tools and techniques. The various types of data including recent discoveries, economical growth, ethnobotanical literature and extremely rapid increase in herbal journals and books have emerged great scope for these pathies. At the same time several challenges and threats are present including herb-drug interaction, false reports, toxicity studies etc. In this review paper, opportunities, threats, and researches to be focused will be discussed.

한국산채류 이용의 역사적 고찰 (A Historical Study on the Utilization of Wild Vegetables as Foods in Korea)

  • The first historical record on the use of wild edible plants as foods in Korea involves sswuk and manul concerned with the mythology of Tangun. Numerous names of wild vegetables had been recorded in various ancient books. Wild edible plants are of great value as food resources and for domestication, since they have variable edible portions and quite a long picking season. Several kinds of wild edible plants have been already grown as vegetable crops. Doragi (Platycodon grandiflorum) is probably the one with the longest history of cultivation. During World War II, an attempt had been made to substitute vegetable crops for wild edible plants. As picking wild greens requires a great deal of labor and plants of wild growth are limited in the amount, domestication of wild vegetables as crops appears to be an urgent need for securing food resources in Korea.

『해동죽지(海東竹枝)』에 나타난 세시풍속 고찰 (The Study on Seasonal Customs of Hae-Dong-Jug-Ji)

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate seasonal customs of "Hae-Dong-Jug-Ji". Cheo Yeong-hyeon was a literary man who passed away when Joseon Dynasty ruined after great change of dynasty. As the interest in the customs had also, there appeared a lot of books on common customs in each seasons. As a result, Chinese poems on the seasonal common customs turned up a great deal. Among these, "Hae-Dong-Jug-Ji" written by Cheo Yeong-hyeon is one of the representative poems which described the seasonal customs at that time. As the details of customs and lives in every work is described deliberately, the poem is very clear and realistic. This is the very achievement of the poet.

  • 고구려와 수나라의 제 l차 전쟁은 정사의 기록이 부실하여 추측과 논쟁이 난무하는 상태이다. 이에 관한 작금의 기록을 수집하고 분석하여 다음 네 가지의 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 장마가 전투에 가장 큰 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 정사의 기록과는 달리, 전쟁은 장마만으로 인해 종료된 것이 아니고 두 군대의 접전이 있었다. 셋째, 이 전쟁은 임유관을 주무대로 전개되었다. 넷째, 당시 고구려 군은 우연히 장마의 혜택을 입은 것이 아니라, 계획적으로 장마를 전투에 이용하여 대승을 거두었다. 다섯째, 이 전쟁의 지휘관이 강이식이었는지에 관해서는 여러 가지 기록에도 불구하고 의문의 여지가 남아 있다.

가정과 소비자 교육의 개념학습 모형 적용 연구 (A Study on the Application of Concept Attainment Models for Consumer Education of Home Economics)

  • In this study, among the cognitive learning models for information process, Taba’s inductive thinking model and Joyce&Weil’s concept attainment model, which help to obtain and study the concepts, can be applied to the ranges of consumer-education. Considering this, a new teaching-paln can be made. Applying the plan to the present teaching environments. I will do the research possibilities of applying the concept-learning teaching-plan to the consumer education. In the method of this research, many books, related to home economics & consumer-education, characters of concept-learning, and concept teaching-learning models, were studied. Also, on the basis of theoretical evidence, the teaching-plan, that apply the concept teaching model, were made. In addition, experimental research was done to find out the possibilities that the plan focusing on concept learning was applied or not. As a result of this study, two points are briefly summarized : 1. The teaching plan using Taba’s and Joyce & Weil’s concept-attainment model was made. 2. Concept-learning in consumer-education didn’t have a great a great influence to the changes of consumer-roles and attitudes, but had a great influence to the effects of consumer concept-knowledge(p<0.01) The effects of consumer-knowledge had much relation to consumer-roles and attitudes. The learners whose grade is higher in attainments of consumer-knowledge, also have a high grade in consumer-roles and attitudes.

그림책과 이야기 구조도식을 활용한 학교도서관 프로그램의 효과 - 초등학교 1학년 아동의 문해능력과 도서 대출 빈도의 변화 및 프로그램 만족도 분석 - (The Effects of an School Library Program Using Picture Books and Graphic Organizers - First graders' Literacy Abilities, Book Lending Frequency, and Satisfaction for the Program -)

  • 이 연구는 그림책과 이야기 구조도식을 활용한 학교도서관 프로그램을 구성하여 초등학교 1학년생들에게 실시함으로써 그 효과를 분석하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 경기도의 한 초등학교에서 1학년생 28명이 학교도서관 프로그램에 참여하여 11주 동안 총 20권의 그림책을 읽고 이야기 구조도식을 활용하여 책에 대한 반응을 나타내었다. 프로그램 시행 전후에 참여 아동의 문해능력과 도서 대출 빈도의 변화를 살펴보았고, 참여 아동의 어머니들과 프로그램 진행자들을 대상으로 만족도를 평가하였다. 이 프로그램에 참여한 아동들의 읽기이해력과 쓰기 유창성 및 글의 형식, 조직, 표현, 내용, 주제 면에서의 쓰기능력이 유의하게 향상되었다. 또한 프로그램 참여 이전에 비해 이들이 학교도서관에서 책을 대출하는 빈도가 유의하게 증가하였다. 마지막으로, 참여아동의 어머니들은 아동의 읽기능력과 읽기태도가 향상되고 아동 도서와 도서관에 대한 어머니 자신의 관심이 증가하였다는 점에서 매우 높은 만족도를 보였으며, 프로그램을 진행한 대학생 멘토들은 이 프로그램이 자신들에게도 긍정적인 영향을 주었다고 응답하였다.

동의보감(東醫寶鑑)을 통한 허준의 의학사상에 관한 고찰 (A study on Huh-Joon's medical thoughts in Dong-Eui-Bo-Kham)

  • Huh-joon's medical thoughts shown on his medical book of the Doog-Eui-Bo-Kham can be summerized as follows. 1. The general trend of medical science in Koryo dynasty is that much more interests were concentrated upon the books about curative means rather than upon the books about theoretical knowledge of medical science. With the development of Hyang Yak(鄕樂) (the term referring either various kinds of domestic medical stuffs such as herbs or the curative methods using those stuffs) and the writing of books on Hyang Yak, independent medical science of the nation's own was established in late Koryo dynasty. And the national medical science was continuously further developed until early Choson dynasty. Briskly-expanded mutual exchanges with China in early Choson dynasty provided Choson opportunities to import Chinese medical science and to examine it. Under this circumstances, he wrote the Dong-Eui-Bo-Kham. 2. As we look over the preface and Chip-Rae-Muo(集例文), we can find the characterstic of Doog-Eui-Bo-Kham is that the philosophical theory of Taoism was quoted in explaining the principles of his medical science and that the main idea of Naekyuog is the basis in explaining the way of curing diseases. 3. 83 kinds of medical books were quoted in the Doog-Eui-Bo-Kham. Besides, as many as 200 kinds of books including Tao-tzu's teaching books(道書), history books(史書), almanac(曆書), and Confucius' teaching books(儒家書籍) were quoted in total. Naekyuog and Eue-Hak-Ip-Mun, Dan-Kye-Sim-Bup were the most frequently quoted books among them. 4. Huh-Joon's medical thoughts about health care were like these. 1) The reason why Huh-Joon regarded the idea of health care as of great importance was that he laid much more emphasises on the preventive medicines rather than on the remedial medicines. The direct reason was that he was greatly influenced by profound knowledge of Taoist's study of discipline and who participated in the editing the books from the beginning. 2) Huh-Joon's outlook on human body started from the theory of "Unity of Heaven and Man"(天人合一論), which implied man was a kind of miniature universe. In addition to that, he largely theory of essence(精), vital force(氣), and spirit(神) which were regarded very important as the three most valuable properties in Taoism. However, he took his medical ground on practical and pragmatic idea that he did not discuss fundamental essence(元精), fundamental vital force(元氣), and fundamental spirit(元神) which were given by Heaven from the received only the theory of essence, vital force, and spirit which were acquired after birth and worked mainly on realistic activity of life. 3) Huh-loon accepted Do-In-Bup(導引法) sharply as a method to prevent and cure diseases. 5. Huh-loon's medical thoughts on remedial aspects are as 1) Naekyung was considered so important in Dong-Eui-Bo-Kham that not only each paragraph was begun with the Quotations from Nackyung but also the edited order of the content of the book the same with that of Naekyung. And differently from the former korean medical books he accepted at large and recorded the theories of the four noted physicians of the Geum-Won era(金元四大家) by Dong-Eui-Bo-Kham. 2) For the first time, Huh-Joon introduced the theory of Un-Ki (運氣論) in the Dong-Eui-Bo-Kahm. However, he accepted it as a pathological function of human body but he did not apply physical constitution, physiological function, pathological function, and remedial methods. 3) Huh-loon liked to use Hyang Yak that he recorded korean name of Hyang Yak(鄕名), places of the production(産地), the time of collecting(採取時月), and the way of drying herbs(陰陽乾正法) in the remedial method of a single medicine prescription for diseases at the end of each paragraph. By doing so, he developed, arranged, and revived Hyang Yak. 4) He believed that since the natural features of China were different from those of Korea the reasons of being attacked with its remedial methods couldn't be the same with different from Chinese medical books which primarily focused on paralysis and the injury of the cold has his own structure in his book that he founded independent science of this nation. He consulted enormous documents He discovered and wrote the theory and therefore concrete methods for diseases so that the book hadthe principles of outbreak of diseases(理), methods of cure(法), prescription(方), and a single medicine prescription(藥) and set system of medical science in a good order. By doing so, he and pragmatic development of medical science.

피휘(避諱)에 관한 연구 (A Study of 'Stupid Words')

  • Characters are the tool of writing language. In particular, Chinese characters were the tool of communicating, storing and intermediating information in Chinese traditional medicine, and exercised great influence on diseases, diagnoses, treatments and others. Stupid Words are used to avoid calling the name of an emperor or an elder. The Stupid Words, written in old literature, were mostly used to avoid calling the name of emperors in those days. At first, those were used to express respect, but with time, the rule began to be strict. Those who violate the rule were dismissed or expelled; what is worse, even their families were exterminated. Medical books were no exception to the rule. The history of Stupid Words is originated from primitive society. Those were begun to be used customarily, and were institutionalized over time. Although dynasties had been changed in large numbers in history, Stupid Words were not disappeared and had been used until feudalism rings down the curtain. In addition, the characteristics of Stupid Words became different as to each age, and exercised great influence on old literature. The Stupid Words in Chinese traditional medicine are shown in herbal names, authors' names, terminologies, symptomatological names and others. Through Stupid Words, the date of publication can be presumed, and pleonasms can be discriminated from lacunae, and it can be judged whether those works are true or not. On the other hand, those cause inconvenience philologically. The Stupid Words in old medical books became different semantically throughout the years, and so the original became difficult to be translated as well as its meaning cannot be communicated correctly. Eventually, time and effort are expended unnecessarily in some cases.

"약징속편(藥徵續編)"을 통해 살펴본 촌정금산(村井琴山)의 의학사상에 대한 연구 (Study on Murai Kinzan's Medical thought Appeared in "Yakuchozokuhen")

  • Murai Kinzan was a disciple of the great Ko-bang scholar, Yoshimasu Todo(吉益東洞). He was born in a family of doctors, he helped his father's medical works and together made an institution of medical education. He wrote many medical books such as "Yakuchozokuhen(藥徵續編)", "Idonisen'nenganmokuhen(醫道二千年眼目編)" and "Hogyokusantei(方極刪定)". He followed Yoshimasu Todo's theories that "All disease comes from a single poison" and criticized scholars such as Yoshimasu Nangai(吉益南涯) for modifying the theories of his teacher, Yoshimasu Todo. He was also influenced by Kagawa Shuuan(香川修庵) through his father, and learned medicine from Yamawaki Touyou(山脇東洋) through letters. Under the influence of these great scholars, he pursued empirical and practical medicine based on his own experience using "Shanghanlun(傷寒論)" and "Jinguiyaolue(金匱要略)" for reference. In "Yakuchozokuhen" and "Yakuchozokuhenhuroku", Murai Kinzan maintained the main frame of "Yakucho(藥徵)", Yoshimasu Todo's work, discussing in 5 categories. Medicines that are used popularly were written in "Yakucho" and "Yakuchozokuhen", therefore those books were discussed in 5 categories. However, "Yakuchozokuhenhuroku" were discussed only in 1 ~ 3 categories.

대한제국기 내장원의 위상 변화와 공문서 접수 (Receipt of Official Documents after the Status Change of the Office of Crown Properties in The Great Han Empire)

  • 대한제국기 내장원이 각종 국가 재원을 관할한 거대 재정기구로 확대되면서 공문서 양식도 변화되었다. 초기와 달리 1900년 2월부터 판심에는 궁내부가 삭제된 '내장원(內藏院)'이 찍힌 공문서 용지를 사용했다. 내장원경의 도장에 새겨진 명칭도 '내장원경지장(內藏院卿之章)'으로 변경되었다. 내장원이 거대 재정기구로 확대되면서 위상도 독자성을 갖는 기구로 높아졌던 것이며, 그 양상이 공문서 양식에도 반영되었던 것이다. 이러한 변화는 문서 유통 체계에서도 나타났다. 1897년까지 내장원이 각 군으로부터 받은 보고의 수신자는 대부분 궁내부대신이었으나 1899년부터는 수신자가 내장원인 보고서가 대부분이었다. 1899년 8월 이전에는 내장원이 각 군에 훈령을 내릴 수 없었으나, 1899년 8월 이후부터 내장원은 각 군에 훈령을 내릴 수 있게 되었다. 그렇지만 아직 내장원은 중앙기관과 대등한 위치에서 문서를 거래하지는 못했다. 그러나 1900년 9월부터 내장원은 중앙기관과 대등한 위치에서, 지방 기관과는 상급 기관으로서 문서를 거래하게 되었고, 내장원에는 기록과가 설치되었다. 내장원은 궁내부 소속의 하급 기관에서 벗어나 독립된 기관으로서 각 기관과 문서를 거래하게 되었다. 1900년 9월 기록과가 설치된 이후부터 내장원은 독자적으로 문서 접수책을 작성했다. 1901년도 접수책과 1905 1906년도 접수책을 비교해 보면 1905년도 접수책부터 접수 호수가 등장하고 일부에서는 해당 문서의 담당 기관이 기록되었다. 1902년부터 1904년까지의 접수책이 없어 접수책에 언제부터 접수 호수가 기록되었는지 접수책을 통해서는 알 수 없지만, 1905년도 접수책에 기록된 접수 호수와 일자가 접수스탬프에 기입된 내용과 일치하는 것으로 보아 접수 호수가 기록된 시점은 접수스탬프를 찍기 시작한 1902년 7월 전후인 것으로 추정된다. 다음으로 접수스탬프와 달리 접수책에는 업무 담당 기관인 과(課)가 먼저 기록되었다. 이는 내장원이 접수책을 과를 구분해서 작성했던 방식에서 과를 통합하여 작성하는 방식으로 전환했기 때문이었다. 내장원은 과를 구분하지 않고 하나의 접수책에 접수한 순서대로 문서를 기록하면서 각 문서에 연속된 접수 호수를 부여하고, 해당 문서의 업무 담당 기관을 구분하기 위해 접수책 하단에 과를 기록했던 것이다. 1900년 9월 기록과가 설치된 이후 독자적으로 문서를 수발하게 된 내장원은 접수한 문서에 도장 '내장원영수증(內藏院領收證)'을 찍고, 문서접수 장부를 작성했다. 내장원은 과를 구분해서 접수책을 작성했던 초기의 방식에서 과를 통합해 하나의 접수책에 작성하는 방식으로 전환하고 접수책에는 접수 호수와 업무 담당 기관을 기록하였다. 그리고 접수한 문서에는 접수일자 호수로 구성된 접수스탬프를 찍어 점차 접수 체계가 정비되는 방향으로 나아갔다.
