This paper derives the gravity equation with intermediate goods trade. We extend a standard monopolistic competition model to incorporate intermediate goods trade, and show that the gravity equation with intermediates trade is identical to the one without it except in that gross output should be used as the output measure instead of value added. We also show that the output elasticity of trade is significantly underestimated when value added is used as the output measure. This implies that with the conventional gravity equation, the contribution of output growth can be substantially underestimated and the role of trade costs reduction can be exaggerated in explaining trade expansion, as we demonstrate for the case of Korea's trade growth between 1995 and 2007.
In order to predict thermodynamic performance of refrigeration system, it is required to know the oil concentration of the refrigerant/oil mixture. The current method to measure the oil concentration is to extract the working mixture and then to measure the oil weight. However, it is Quite necessary to estimate oil concentration without any extraction of the working fluid. In this study a new method and working equation is presented as follows. It is based on the measurement of spedific gravity and temperature : $$C=a+b{\times}t+c{\times}t^2+(d+e{\times}t+f{\times}t^2){\times}SG$$ C is oil concentration, t is temperature($^{\circ}C$), SG is specific gravity of mixture and a~f is coefficients. The oil concentration ranges over 0~12 wt% and the temperature ranges over $20{\sim}50^{\circ}C$. The specific gravity and temperature are measured using the on-line densimeter and thermometer. This working equation enables to predict the oil concentration without any extraction of the mixture. This equation can be applied for R-12/Naphthenic oil and R-134a/POE oil oiquid mixtures.
The relative magnitudes of the individual terms of the momentum equation are analyzed and compared by the analytical methods in open channel flow. The temporal variations of each term(local acceleration term, convective acceleration term, pressure force term, gravity force term, and friction force term) are analyzed for the influence factors to runoff expressed by the parameters of the momentum equation, stream slopes and roughness coefficients. The magnitudes of each term vary with the channel characteristics, especially when the roughness coefficients are dominant or for the mild stream slopes the pressure term can not be negligible. As a result of the characteristics of momentum equation in open channel flow, the acceleration terms are very small compared with the other terms. The magnitudes of local acceleration and convective acceleration offsets each other. The peak time of each term except the gravity term coincides with inflection point of the hydrograph rising limb each other.
The objective of this paper is to study two dimensional waves on the interface between two immiscible, invicid and incompressible fluid bounded by two rigid varing boundaries when gravity and surface tension appear. By using unfied asymptotic method, a K-dV equation with higher order terms from which many model equations for the fluid domain can be obtained, is derived.
Amid a general rise in protectionism and a trade war between the world's two largest economies, this paper analyzes changes in gains from trade for the world over a decade marked by rapid global economic integration preceding the global financial crisis of 2007-08. It employs state-of-the-art quantitative trade models based on the gravity equation to estimate autarky gains from trade, as well as a recently introduced ANOVA-type structural estimation of the gravity equation to obtain trade costs free of residual trade cost bias. Between 1995 and 2006, the cost of moving to autarky increased by about 45% on average. A decomposition exercise suggests most of the increase in autarky gains from trade on average was due to increases in import shares in total spending, with a limited role for reallocations of spending across sectors with varied trade elasticities. Changes in trade costs between 1995 and 2006 are found to have increased autarky gains from trade, as measured in 2006, by up to 100%.
The dynamic behavior of an automatic ball balancer (ABB) is studied considering the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles. In this study, a physical model for an ABB installed on the Jeffcott rotor is adopted in order to investigate the effects of gravity and angular acceleration. The equations of motion for the rotor with ABB are derived by using Lagrange's equation. Based on derived equations, dynamic responses for the rotor are computed by using the generalized-o method. From the computed responses, the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles on the dynamic behavior are investigated. It is found that the balancing of the rotor with ABB can be achieved regardless of gravity. It Is also shown that a smooth velocity profile yields relatively smaller vibration amplitude than a non-smooth velocity profile.
