Packaging of solar salts produced in Korea and Japan were evaluated and compared each other in terms of packaging design such as package types, colors and graphics. The standing pouch type in plastic film was most popular for the Korean salts regardless of the package capacity. But the same type was common only for the lower package capacity of 300 g or less while the plastic film pouch was prevalent for the higher capacity for the Japanese salts. White and brown were dominant colors for the Korean solar salts reminding us of salt farms and the foreshore respectively and strengthening its color identity. White, blue and red were used for the dominant, assort and accent colors respectively for the Japanese salt packaging. Salt farmers and the foreshore are often represented as the main package graphics for the Korean solar salts while the wave symbolising the sea was found frequently for the Japanese ones. The word of 'Shinan' was involved the most in the brand names of the Korean salts and the sea was appeared very often in those of the Japanese ones.
Typography in visual communication design is 'potential form' hidden within a space. Showing rhythm in typography is making 'aesthetic sense' in a graphic which has formative characteristics, the way of expression is very important. When the rhythm is recognized through visual stream, Rhythmic Sense is formed. The research will present a new form of the Visual Rhythmic Sense by analyzing typography works out positively. First of all, I researched works done by Fillippo Marinetti, Robert Massin, Wolfgang Weingart, and David Carson for their vigorous experimentalism in typography in forming visual rhythm. I used S.D. Scale method to analyze characteristics of visual image and VARIMAX for factor analysis reaching types of visual rhythm, which could be classified as following. (1) Synesthesia Rhythmic Sense (R-synesthesia) means that the senses are conveyed through 'visualization of auditory sense' and 'visualization of touch' (2) Simultaneous Rhythmic Sense (R-simultaneity) means that the time and space co-exist in one plane. (3) Connective Rhythmic Sense(R-connection) means that different factors (Within one plane) co-exist interacting with one another and creating a unified impression through such a process. (4) Artist Oriented Rhythmic Sense ($-artist) means that the artist interprets the content subjectively and expresses his/her impression, thereby, attracting a gaze of audience systematically and arbitrarily. (5) Reader Oriented Rhythmic Sense(R-reader) avoids the existing legibility formed through aggressive engagement of the reader.

In case of the roads that pass the mountain area, the cut sections or the tunnels are constructed. And In winter season it appears sunshine few in the specific segment, the shade is continued last and the freezing sections occur. So, the attention is necessary in traffic safety. This study was to evaluate the influence of sunshine and surface freezing sections expected in route plans of roads using GIS and makes alternative ideas in road stability security. After selecting 29 km sections of Donghae highway and creating a 3 dimensional terrain surface through the digital conversion of design plan data, it reflects the road alignment data of the same coordinates and a 3 dimensional road modeling is created. It set shadow time of road surface for the solar trace in the winter solstice in 20 minute interval. Shade areas are displayed and inputed in polygon data by manual vertorizing. Graphic and attribute data of this shade section is constructed in geodatabase of ArcCatalog. And it extracted the freezing section using intersect fuction of the GIS spatial analysis. By analyzing the winter meteorological data of temperature, rainfall, snowfall, humidity, and etc. and grasping dangerous freezing section of the road surface effectively, it will be able to make alternative ideas of the preliminary stability evaluation reflected in basic design.
In the IT industry, processing units of IT applications are getting smaller and high efficient. Furthermore, the realization of various smart functions is highly feasible now due to advances in sensing technology. The service infrastructures on high efficient and compact mobile devices are applied to various areas. These also could be possessed by users and is built into the devices. Currently, studies on the UX(User Experience) field to attempt an analysis and prediction of user's information are continuing with reference to the UI(User Interface). However, research on the common framework of classification and storing the user-information, and standardization of form has not been attempted yet. In this study, we proposed the AUX(Associative user Experience) model and process structure to store various empirical data by users. The AUX model expressed a diversity of user's empirical data using extended E-TCPN model. And also, we expressed the data structure using XML with reference to the application of AUX model. This expressed model and separation of process structure guarantee its specialty, productivity and flexibility through the humanistic characteristics of users and the independence of technical process structure. The AUX model maps out the AUX information process architecture and expressed the process with the improved MPP algorithm, to analyze of its performance. The simulation of movements applying to MPP traffic allocation of VOD is used to analyze of its performance. The playback deviation of MPP Graphic Allocation Algorism where the AUX model was applied was improved by 10.41% more than the one where it was not applied. As a result of that, playback performance has improved due to the conversion of AUX with accessing media, content of users and dynamic traffic allocation such as MPI and CPI.

A marine environmental information system (MEIS) useful for optimal route planning of ships running in the ocean was developed. Utilizing the simulated marine environmental data produced by the European Center for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts based on global environmental data observed by satellites, the real-time forecast and long-term statistics of marine environments around planned and probable ship routes are provided. The MEIS consists of a land-based data acquisition and analysis system(MEIS-Center) and a onboard information display system(MEIS-Ship) for graphic description of marine information and optimal route planning of ships. Also, it uses of satellite communication system for data transfer. The marine environmental components of winds, waves, air pressures and storms are provided, in which winds are described by speed and direction and waves are expressed in terms of height, direction and period for both of wind waves and swells. The real-time information is characterized by 0.5° resolution, 10 day forecast in 6 hour interval and daily update. The statistic information of monthly average and maximum value expected for a return period is featured by 1.5° resolution and based on 15 year database. The MEIS-Ship include an editing tool for route simulation and the forecasting and statistic information on planned routes can be displayed in graph or table. The MEIS enables for navigators to design an optimal navigational route that minimizes probable risk and operational cost.

One argument of this study is that the policy to handle and landscape of cultural and historical property had to do with people's visual preferences. This study seeks to investigate people's visual preferences toward the landscape of cultural /historical property, specifically dealing with 'Namdaemun', which is the first class cultural property of Korea. People's visual preference was specifically examined into the four specific concepts : 'visual identity','harmony','beauty of the target property', and 'overall beauty'. Two objective variables, such as, 'distance' between the viewer and the cultural property, and 'height' of background buildings were considered possible predictors of the four visual preference variables. Photos of 'Namdaemun' were taken at three different directions and at three different distances. The photographed images of 'Namdaemun' were transferred ito the digitalized graphic images, where the height of background buildings was artificially changed and simulated. The simulated visual images were taken into the slides again. A total of 59 students of the Department of Landscape architecture at Seoul City University were sampled as subjects. A series of 17 slides were shown to the subjects four times. The subjects were asked to check their preference ratings concerning the four concepts on a 7-point Likert scale. The results found in this study were as follows : 1) In the results of ANOVA, it was clear that people visually preferred the view where the height of background buildings were lower than 15 floors to the view of more than 15 floors . 2) From the results of the path analysis, it was found that 'harmony','visual identity' and 'beauty of the target property' were direct predictors of 'the overall beauty'. The 'height ' of background buildings and the viewer's 'distance' were not found to be direct predictors, however, they demonstrated their effects on 'the overall beauty' through the other variable, which were direct predictors of 'the overall beauty'. In sum, the longer the distance and the higher the background buildings, the lower people's preference with the 'overall beauty'. These indirect paths, in turn, also explain why and how the 'height' of background buildings and the viewer's 'distance' negatively influence the 'overall beauty'. An implication from the these results is that when the height of background buildings were not controllable, there would be some other strategies for improving people's visual preference toward the historical /cultural view. To increase 'visual identity' of the cultural property, for example, changing colors of the cultural property or increasing the lighting level, etc., would be one strategy, since the increased 'visual identity' will, in turn, increase 'the overall beauty'.

Digital authoring tool was insufficient for research of authoring tool due to the recognition that authoring tool is a simple tool. I try to resolve the difficulties through the analysis digital authoring tools to students studying at the university. In addition, Suggests social/cultural change of animation practitioners and effective training methods of digital authoring tools in the education of beginners and practitioners. This tool have perceptual knowledge and narrative knowledge. Since the language features and knowledge features is difficult to learn. it must be learned knowledge of computer graphics of professional level properly to learn. Then users should try to be creative within the authoring tool to produce creative results. also formed the community and to exchange information for self-development further it should form job market that authoring tool make formed through medium. So, I think that there is a need to change academically attitude to authoring tool. because this is not only the positive side but it occurs phenomenon to enslave users in authoring tool, and blind faith in the authoring tool or critical stance on software. It was a lot of pre-existing research that investigate engineering and industrial side in the authoring tool. Through this thesis, We will find social/cultural features and academic significance, and investigate that how to approach the method of education.
The characteristics of the manoeuvring motion of a ship are dependent on the ship type, as well as draft or speed in the same ship. In recent years, the number of extra-large vessels has increased significantly, which can cause enormous material and environmental damage in the event of a marine accident. Thus, the importance of ship maneuvering is increasing. The IMO has forced the officers to be trained in simulators through the STCW 95 amendment. However, FMSS is costly and difficult to access and the PC-based simulator has the disadvantage that only one person can engage in simulation. The purpose of this study was to solve the shortcomings of the FMSS and PC-based simulators by enabling multiple people to use their PCs to simulate based on a network. The simulator is implemented through the analysis and numerical calculation of the Nomoto model, Radar function mounting, data transfer protocol design, and GUI building. To verify the simulator, the simulation results were compared and analyzed with the test results of T.S. HANBADA according to the criteria of the Korean Register of Shipping(KR) and IMO standards for ship maneuverability. As a result, It showed a relative error of 0%~ 32.1% with an average of 13.7%, and it satisfied the IMO criteria for ship maneuverability.

This research is primarily intended to develop a decision-making support system about the natural environment in the country by integrating various formats of spatial data into a comprehensive GIS database. The first part of the research is to design GIS database as a means of combining thematic cartographic data with field survey records. Ecosystem records acquired by a field sampling have been reproduced as digital thematic maps. The database also included various natural environment related data (map for forestry, soil, national park etc.) collected from many other agencies. The second part of the research is devoted to the design of efficient man-machine interfaces. A key concern in the GUI (graphic user interface) design process was to address the need to handle and to manage large databases by non-GIS experts. The system has been checked experimentally, enabled the users to quarry the data required simply and execute spatial analysis accommodating versatile alternatives in decision-making process. Detailed visual maps can be generated over large areas quickly and easily. The system will serve to increase the scientific and objective decision-making by overcoming serious constraints suffered from the past non-GIS-based approach. It is anticipated that this research output could be used as a valuable reference in building a nationwide natural environment GIS-DB (database) in the central and local governments.

In this paper, we describe a multiprocessor system using the HiPi bus with pended protocol and multiple cache memories, and evalute the performance of the multiprocessor system in terms of processor utilization for various cache coherence protocols. The HiPi bus is delveloped as the shared bus of TICOM II which is a main computer system to establish a nation-wide computing network in ETRI. The HiPi bus has high data transfer rate, but it doesn't allow cache-to-cache transfer. In order to evaluate the effect of cache-to-cache transfer upon the performance of system and to choose a best-performed protocol for HiPi bus, we simulate as follows: First, we analyze the performance of multiprocessor system with HiPi bus in terms of processor utilizatIOn through simulation. Each of cache coherence protocol is described by state transition diagram, and then the probability of each state is calculated by Markov steady state. The calculated probability of each state is used as input parameters of simulation, and modeling and simulation are implemented and performed by using SLAM II graphic symbols and language. Second, we propose the HiPi bus which supports cache-to-cache transfer, and analyze the performance of multiprocessor system with proposed HiPi bus in terms of processor utilization through simulation. Considered cache coherence protocols for the simulation are Write-through, Write-once, Berkely, Synapse, Illinois, Firefly, and Dragon.
