Study on the Geometrical Properties of Brown Rice on Shape Factors

  • Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the optimal sorting factors in establishing an efficient sorting technology for brown rice. Methods: The brown rice varieties used in this study were Il Pum, Chu Cheong, Dong Jin, Un Gwang, Nam Pyeong, and Dae An. These were classified into whole grain, unriped grain, and green dead rice. The shape factors were analyzed based on length, width and thickness of the grains. Results: The results revealed that the maximum length among whole grain, unriped grain, and green dead rice was observed in Dae An variety while Chu Cheong variety showed the minimum. Further more, Il Pum brown rice showed the maximum width while Dong Jin variety showed the minimum. In the case of thickness, the maximum was observed in Un Gwang variety and that of the minimum among Nam Pyeong variety for both whole grain and unriped grain. Conclusions: The length and width can be used as determinants in sorting factors of whole grain and green dead rice, and the thickness can be considered as optimum sorting factor of whole grain and unriped grain.

  • 강낭콩 육종을 위한 기초 자료를 얻고자 형질상호간의 특성이 다른 7개 품종과 이들을 이면교잡하여 얻은 $F_{1}$ 종자를 재료로 각 형질에 대한 조합능력을 추정한 결과, 주당립수를 제외한 전 형질에서 일반조합능력의 값이 특정조합능력의 값보다 크게 나타났다. 일반조합능력의 효과를 보면 Felibon이 주당립수와 개화일수에서, Local variety $\#1$이 100립중과 경장 등에서 효과가 높았고, Local variety $\#2$는 주당립중과 100립중에서, Processor는 주당립중과 생육일수에서, Kaboom은 개화일수와 생육일수에서, $BO_{22}$는 주당립중과 100립중에서 효과가 높게 나타났다. 특정조합능력 의 효과에서는 $Felibon{\times}Renka$, Local variety $\#1{\times}Processor$, Local variety $\#2{\times}Processor$ 등의 조합들이 개화일수와 생육일수에서 높은 부의 효과를 보여 조숙품종 육성조합으로 유망하였다. $Felibon{\times}Local$ variety $\#1$, $Felibon{\times}Renka$ and Local variety $\#2{\times}BO_{22}$등의 조합들은 수량형질에서 높은 정의 효과를 보여 다수성 품종 육성조합으로 유망하였다.

광잎 심복백의 수상위치에 따른 변이 (Variarions in Degree of Chalkiness of Rice Kernels According to Their Positions on Panicle)

  • 미입의 심복백정도가 수상위치에 따라 어떻게 달라지는가를 구명하기 위하여 심복백정도가 상이한 4가지 품종에서 우선 미입별 심복백정도의 분포와 이들의 입중과의 관계를 보았고 다음으로 심복백이 적은 밀양2003와 많은 SR 601-25-1에 대하여 심복백의 수상분포를 조사한 결과는 다음과 같았다. 1. 품종내에서 미입의 심복백은 투명입(0)에서 부터 심복백입(9)에 이르기까지 다양하게 분포하였는데 투명입중은 투명입이, 심복백입종은 심복백입이 가장 많았고 중간입종은 전 등급에 고르게 분포하였다. 2. 심복백정도와 입중과의 관계에서 투명입종은 심복백잎이, 심복백립종은 투명입이 가벼웠으며 중간입종은 투명입과 심복백입이 다 가벼웠다. 3. 미입 심복백의 수상분포에서 투명입종은 이삭의 끝 부분인 제1지편과 각 지편의 미단입들이 모두 투명하였고 기타 부위에서는 일정한 경향이 없었다. 4. 지편의 평균심복백 정도는 투명입종에 속하는 밀양2003에서만 중간부입의 지편이 약간 높은 편이었다.

소맥육종에 있어서 수량 및 수량구성형질의 선발을 위한 기초적 연구 (Studies on the Selection for Grain Yield and Components of Yield in Wheat Breeding)

  • 소맥육종에 있어서 수량에 관한 선발효율을 높이기 위한 기초적정보를 얻고저 1968년부터 1971년까지 4개년에 걸쳐 작물시험장포장에서 일련의 실험을 실시하였다. 먼저 수량 및 수량관계형질의 유전력과 형질간의 상호관계를 구명하기 위하여 고정품종군과 F$_2$개체군 그리고 F$_3$계통군을 공시하였고 고정품종군으로서 시비량과 년차를 달리하여 수량 및 수량관계형질상호관계의 변동상황을 추구한바 그 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 공시품종들을 한국, 미국, 일본품종군으로 또 조생, 만생품종군으로 분류하여 조사한바 출수기, 간장, 수장의 유전력은 어느품종군에 있어서나 높았고 1수입수, 1,000입중의 유전력은 중정도, 그리고 1주수수와 수량의 유전력은 낮은 편이었다. 그러나 미국품종군에 있어서만은 1수입수와 수량의 유전력이 매우 낮은 값을 보였다. 2. 1,000입중과 수량간에는 만생품종군을 제외한 모든 품종군에 있서어 높은 유전상관을 보였으며 1수입수와 수량간에도 미국품종군을 제외한 모든 품종군에 있어서 높은 유전상관이 인정되었다. 3. 경로계수분절결과, 수량에 대한 직접효과는 만생품종군을 제외한 모든 품종군에 있어서 1,000입중이 가장 컸다. 4. F$_2$에 있어서는 1,000입중과 수량간에 2조합에서 모두 높은 유전상관을 보였으며 1수입수와 수량간에도 조합에 따라 차이는 있으나 비교적 높은 상관을 보였다. 5. F$_2$에 있어서 경로계수분절결과 수량구성요소들의 수량에 대한 직접효과는 별로 차이가 없었다. 6. F$_3$에 있어 수량과 높은 유전상관을 보인 것은 1,000입중과 1수입수였으며 수량에 대한 직접효과도 1수입수가 가장 컸고 1,000입중의 직접효과도 큰편이었다. 7. 유전력이 높은 출수기, 간장, 수장등의 유전력은 비료반응형품종군에 있어서나 비반응형 품종군에 있어서 시비량증가에 따른 변동이 거의 없었다. 8. 비료반응형품종군에 있어서는 1,000입중의 유전력이 그리고 비반응형품종군에 있어서는 수량의 유전력이 시비량증가에 따라 높아지는 경향을 보였다. 9. 비료비반응형품종군의 1수입수의 유전력과 1,000입중의 유전력은 비료반응형품종군의 그것보다 높았다. 10. 비료반응형품종군과 비반응형품종군에서 공히 수량과 높은 유전상관을 보인 것은 1,000입중이었으나 비료반응형품종군에 있어서 그 상관의 정도는 비료증시에 따라 낮아졌는데 비료비반응형품종군에서는 이와 반대였다. 11. 비료반응형품종군에 있어서는 수량과 1주수수간에 높은 유전상관을 보였으나 비반응형품종군에 있어서는 상관정도가 매우 낮았다. 12. 경로계수분석결과 수량구성요소들의 수량에 대한 직접효과는 비료반응형품종군에서나 비반응형품종군에 있어서나 시비량차에 관계없이 1,000입중이 가장 컸으며 비료반응형품종군의 다비구에서만 1주수수가 컸다. 13. 년차에 의한 유전력의 변동은 유전력이 높은 출수기, 간장, 수장과 1수입수, 1,000 입중등에서는 변동이 적었으며 유전력이 낮은 1주수수에 있어서 변동이 큰 편이었다. 14. 양년차에서 공히 수량과 유전상관이 높았던 형질은 1,000입중이었으며 수량에 대한 직접효과도 가장 큰 편이었다. 15. 이상의 결과로 보아 우리나라의 소맥육종에 있어서는 다수성의 선발은 1,000입중에 주목하여 선발하는 것이 선발의 효율을 높이는 방법이 될것으로 추론하였다.

수호손실과 도정수율을 기초로 한 벼의 수호적기결정에 관한 연구 (Determination of Optimum Timing of Paddy Harvesting Based on Grain Loss and Milling Quality)

  • This experimental work was conducted in order to find out the optimum time of harvest of Japonica-type (Akibare) and Indica-type(Tong-il) rice variety for three harvesting systems by investigating the harvesting losses and milling quality. The study was also concerned about the nature and amount of grain losses incurred during the each sequence of post-harvest technologies, and based on these result, a modification of existing systems giving a minimum grain loss was attempted. Binder, combine, and traditional systems were tested in this study and five grain moisture levels were disposed according to the decrease of grain moisture . The results are summarized as follows ; 1. The total losses of Akibare variety were ranged from 1.1 to 1.5 per cent for the traditional harvesting system , 2.1 to 4.8 per cent for the harvesting system by use of binder, and 2.8 to 4.3 per cent for the harvesting system by use of combine as the grain moisture content was reduced from 24 to 15 percent. Milling recovery of the harvesting system by use of binder, 74.8 ∼75.7 percent, was a little higher as it was compared to that of traditional harvesting system, 74.3 ∼75.0per cent, and that of the harvesting system by use of combine, 73.8 ∼75.0 per cent. Head rice recovery of mechanically dried paddy samples was higher than that of sun-dried paddy samples. 2. The total losses of Tong-il variety were ranged from 3.8 to 5.0 per cent for the traditional harvesting system, 5.2 to 10.0 percent for the system by use of binder, and 3.0 to 5.0 per cent for the system by use of combine as the grain moisture was reduced from 28 to 16 per cent. 3. Milling recovery of Tong-il variety harvested by the traditional harvesting system was 72.3 ∼73.6 percent and it was lower when compared to that of 72.3∼75.0 per cent harvested by binder, and 73.0∼74.6 percent harvested by combine. 4. 바인다의 효출력이 곡물탈립손실에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Bundle icing Forces on the Shattering Loss of Grains)

  • The effect of binder kicking forces on the shattering losses of paddy rice, which has been widely understood as an outstanding loss factor in harvesting with a binder, were experimentally assessed in this thesis.Through the field tests the optimum time of harvest, in terms of grain moisture contents, was found by considering harvesting losses for two rice varieties, harvested by two different binders, at four or five grain moisture levels.A device was designed and manufactured to apply various kicking forces to the bundles and was used in the bundle kicking tests. It was intended to find out the optimum range of kicking force to minimize the kicking losses. Based on the study, modification of the existing binder kicking mechanism was suggested. The following is a summary of the results of this thesis. 1. In Suweon 258 variety, as the grain moisture content is reduced, so the cutting loss and the kicking loss increase. The grain losses range from 0.77 to 0.82 percent of total field yield for the cutting loss, from 1.83 to 2.01 percent for the kicking loss, and from 2.60 to 2.83 percent for the field loss, when the moisture content is about 22 percent. 2. In Jinheung variety , the field losses increased as the grain moisture content decreased . When the moisture content was 20 percent, the field loss, cutting loss and kicking loss was 0.42-0.49 % , 0.30-0.35, and 0.12 -0.14% of the total field yield, respectively. 3. The difference in the field loss , cutting loss, and kicking loss for the two binders was 0.23% , 0.05% and 0.18% respectively in Suweon 258 variety, and 0.07% , 0.02% and 0.05% respectively ini Jinheung variety. The grain losses for binder B were slightly higher than those for binder A. 4. In the statistical analysis of each variety , the kicking force and the moisture content of the grain, and its interaction were all highly significant at 1% level by T test .The optimum kicking force was found to be in the 3.0-0.4kg range. This does not interrupt the binder operation, while ioses are kept to an acceptale level. 5. To reduce the kicking force of the eXlstmg binder mechanism, the speed of rotation of the kicking arm needs to be redued by increasing the number of driving sprocket teeth, and the position and gear ratio of the knotter-bill and driving bevelgear have to be change to give a !motter-bill speed of 1110 rpm. It is also desirable to attach a belt conveyor which smoothly carries the bundle to the ground. 6. The optimum harvesting time cased on maximum field yield was found to be at a grain moisture content of around 22 percent for Suweon 258 variety, and 20 percent for Jinheung variety. Tota] field yield and field yield at the time amounted to 9, 812.5 kg/ha, 9, 302. 5kg/ha respectively for the Suweon 258, and 7, 819.5 kg/ ha, 7, 158.7 kg/ha respectively for the Jinheung variety.

  • The amount of grain loss incurred during harvesting operation through the chaff-outlet of combine may not be negligible. To minimize this grain loss and optimize condition of combining, it may be necessary that the amout of chaff-outlet loss dependent on varying crop condition is to be estimated as exactly as possible. This study was thus intended to develop the monitor that could indicate the amount of grain lost through the chaff-outlet of combine during haravesting operation, and to find out driving and operating method of combine that could reduce chaff-outlet loss. In the study(1), the frequency distributions of each sound generated by the impact of kernels and chaff, the sound generated by the impact of the mixture of kernels and chaff, and vibration or noise created by the combine engine and other moving parts were investigated experimentally. Based on the results of frequency analyses, the loss monitor was developed which could measure the impact sound of paddy kernels that could be distinguished from those of other threshing products through chaff-outlet, and from vibration or noise created by the combine engine and other moving parts. Also in this study, detecting capability of monitor was tested by comparing the amount of grain lost through chaff-outlet with the amount of grain detected by the loss monitor, and changes in chaff-outlet grain loss on the increase of traveling speed, location of chaff-outlet loss control plate and variety of paddy rice were measured using the loss monitor. The monitor developed in this study efficiently measured the amount of grain lost through the chaff-outlet of combine. It was found that the chaff-outlet grain loss ratio was affected greatly by the variety of paddy rice, the location of chaff-outlet loss control plate and traveling speed of combine.

QTLs analysis associated with a major agronomic traits in hanareum2×unkwang rice recombinant inbred line

  • This study was carried out to improve yield potential of Tongil type rice variety based on QTLs analysis associated with yield component using a total of 386 rice recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from a cross between Tongil type high yield variety "Hanareum2" and Japonica variety "Unkwang". 384 SNP markers were used, and 241 of them (62.6%) were polymorphic between Hanareum2 and Unkwang. One hundred forty-four QTLs in 11 traits, such as heading days, were detected. Most of them were 21 QTLs associated with 1000 grain weight and the least was 8 QTLs associated with panicle number. The QTL, qDTH3-2 associated with days to heading was identified to delay heading date for 2.4~2.6 day. Eleven QTLs were associated with culm length. The QTL, qCL1-2 on chromosome 1, was identified to decrease culm length. A total of 16 QTLs were detected for panicle length. Three QTLs, qPL3, qPL6, and qPL7-1 were increased panicle length. Seven QTLs related to panicle number except qPN7 were increased the number of panicle. Four QTLs related to grain number per panicle, qGNP2-1, qGNP6, and qGNP7, were increased the number of grains. Three QTLs associated with grain filling rate, qGFR1, qGFR2-2, and qGFR7-1 were increased grain filling rate. Twelve QTLs associated with 1,000 grain weight. were increased the grain weight. Fourteen QTLs were identified associated with grain length. 10 QTLs, such as qGL1-1, were increasing grain. Fifteen QTLs associated with grain width were detected. The 8 QTLs, such as qGW1-1, were elongated grain width. Seventeen QTLs were associated with grain thickness, and ten QTLs of them were increased grain thickness. We need further study to develop introgression lines of each QTL to improve yield potential of Tongil type rice variety.

  • 종자순도 유지를 위한 기초자료로 활용코자 콤바인 수확시의 탈립종실이 익년 본답재배양식별 출현정도 및 생육특성을 정상재배벼와 비교검토 한 결과를 요약하면 다음과 같다. 1. 콤바인 수확시 품종별 탈립정도는 삼강벼가 49.5kg/10a로서 낙동벼의 27.8kg/10a보다 현저히 많았으나 탈립종자의 월동후 발아율은 오히려 낙동벼가 훨씬 높았다. 2. 이형주출현율 및 종자혼입율은 재배양식간에는 직파재배가 이앙재배보다, 그리고 품종별로는 일반형품종이 통일형품종보다 높은 경향이였다. 3. 이형주의 생육은 공시품종 모두 천립종을 제외한 간장, 주당수수, 수당입수 및 등숙율등 대부분의 형질들이 정상재배벼에 비하여 저하하는 경향이 었다.

Effect of Variety and Stage of Maturity on Nutritive Value of Whole Crop Rice, Yield, Botanical Fractions, Silage Fermentability and Chemical Composition

  • The effect of eight varieties of grain and forage type whole crop rice (Oryza sativa L Japonica) each harvested at four stages of maturity were investigated for morphology and yield, proportion of botanical fractions, fermentatability and chemical composition in an $8{\times}4$ factorial experiment. All crops were sown in 1997 at Saitama Prefecture, Japan under identical condition and harvested on 10, 22, 34 and 45 days after flowering in 1998. Total DM yield of forage type varieties was similar to that of the highest yield of grain type varieties. However, while yield of forage type varieties was attributed to higher proportion of straw than head, the reverse was in the case of grain type varieties. Yield in line with the proportion of head increased (p<0.001), but in contrast proportion of straw decreased (p<0.001) with the increase in maturity. Silage fermentability of grain type varieties was better than forage type varieties. Fermentability improved with the increase (p<0.001) in maturity suggesting that the moisture content should be reduced to improve fermentation quality. Forage type varieties contained higher (p<0.001) ash, crude fat (EE), organic cell wall (OCW) and acid detergent fiber (ADF), but contained lower crude protein (CP), organic cell content (OCC), CP in OCC and nitrogen-free cell wall extract (NCWFE) than the grain type varieties. The ash, CP, EE, Oa (60% digestible OCW), Ob (40% digestible OCW), OCW, ADF and acid detergent lignin (ADL) decreased (p<0.001), but OCC and NCWFE increased (p<0.001) with the increase in maturity. It is concluded that stage of maturity not only increases yield and proportion of head, but also improved the fermentation quality and increases quality chemical composition (except CP) of whole crop rice. Forage type varieties may be as good as grain type varieties in terms of yield, but fermentation quality and chemical composition may not be as good as that of grain type varieties.
