For efficient storage and retrieval of large video data sets, automatic video scene change detection is a necessary tool. Video scene changes fall into two categories, namely fast and gradual scene changes. The gradual scene change effects include, dissolves, wipes, fades, etc. Although currently existing algorithms are able to detect fast scene changes quite accurately, the detection of gradual scene changes continue to remain a difficult problem. In this paper, among various gradual scene changes, we focus on dissolves. The algorithm uses a subset of the entire video, namely the sequence of DC images, for improvement of detection velocity
Gradual scene change detection is known as more difficult problem then abrupt scene change detection on video data analysis for contents based retrieval. In this paper, we present a new method for scene change detection far both abrupt and gradual change using the variable dynamic threshold arid cut frame difference (CFD). For this, We present the characteristics arid mathematical models of gradual transitions anti then, how can be detected by the CFD. And also we present new scene change detection algorithm based on cut frame difference. By the experimental result using real world video data indicate that the proposed method detect various scene changes both abrupt and gradual change efficiently without time-consuming computation and any dependency on a kind of gradual change effects.

A new algorithm for gradual scene change detection in MPEG based frame sequences is proposed in this paper. The proposed algorithm is based on the fact that most of gradual curves can be characterized by variance distributions of edge information in the frame sequences. Average edge frame sequences are obtained by performing "sober" edge detection. Features are extracted by comparing variances with those of local blocks in the average edge frames. Those features are further processed by the opening operation to obtain smoothing variance curves. The lowest variance in the local frame sequences is chosen as a gradual detection point. Experimental results show that the proposed method provides 85% precision and 86% recall rate fur gradual scene changes.

This paper presented a new scene change detection method of compounding color histogram and $x^2$ histogram. This method overcomes the disadvantages of difference value detection methods and will be taking advantage. Also, this method can detect all from the abrupt scene change detection to gradual scene change detection. The proposed method has been compared with previous method, and our experimental results show the better results than the previous method.
This paper proposes a new scene boundary detection scheme for the MPEG System stream using MPEG Audio information and proves its usefulness by extensive experiments. A scene boundary has a characteristic that the audio as well as video information are changed rapidly. This paper first classifies this scene boundary into three cases ; Radical, Gradual, Micro Changes, with respect to the audio changes. The Radical change has a large-scale changing of decibel value and pitch value at a scene boundary, the Gradual change shows the long-time transition of decibel and pitch values from max to min or vice versa, and the Micro change displays a some change of pitch or frequency distribution without decibel changes. Upon this analysis, a new scene change detection algorithm detecting these three cases is proposed in which a progressive window with a time line is used to trace the changes in the audio information. Some experiments with various movies show that proposed algorithm could produce a high detection ratio for Radical change that is the most popular scene change in the movies, while producing a moderate detection ratio for Gradual and Micro changes. The proposed scene boundary detection scheme could be used to build a database for visual information like MPEG System stream.

In this paper. we propose the method of Scene Change Detection for video sequence using the DC components and the moving vectors in the Macro Blocks in the DCT blocks. The proposed method detects the Scene Change which would not be related with the specific sequences in the compressed MPEG domain. To do this. we define new metrics for Scene Change Detection using the features of picture component and detect the exact Scene Change point of B-pictures using the characteristics of B-picture's sharp response for the moving vectors. In brief, we will detect the cut point using I-picture and the gradual scene changes such as dissolve, fade, wipe, etc. As a results, our proposed method shows good test results for the various MPEG sequences.
In this paper, a hybrid algorithm for well detecting both abrupt and gradual scene changes is proposed. This algorithm examines only the candidate intervals for speedup using the binary tree method and skips the intervals that are not candidate. For accuracy, the temporal difference of variance is used to detect the gradual scene changes while the temporal difference of histogram is used to detect the abrupt scene changes. Experimental results show that the proposed hybrid algorithm using the binary tree method works up about 10 times faster that the sequential method and is effective in detecting abrupt scene change and gradual transitions including dissolving and fading.

In this paper, an efficient automatic video parsing technique on MPEG-compressed video that is fundamental for content-based indexing is described. The proposed method detects scene changes, regardless of IPB picture composition. To detect abrupt changes, the difference measure based on the dc coefficient in I picture and the macroblock reference feature in P and B pictures are utilized. For gradual scene changes, we use the macroblock reference information in P and B pictures. the process of scene change detection can be efficiently handled by extracting necessary data without full decoding of MPEG sequence. The performance of the proposed algorithm is analyzed based on precision and recall. the experimental results verified the effectiveness of the method for detecting scene changes of various MPEG sequences.

The increase of video data makes the demand of efficient retrieval, storing, and browsing technologies necessary. In this paper, a video segmentation method (scene change detection method, or shot boundary detection method) for the development of such systems is proposed. For abrupt cut detection, inter-frame similarities are computed using luminance and edge histograms and a cut is declared when the similarities are under th predetermined threshold values. A gradual scene change detection is based on the similarities between the current frame and the previous shot boundary frame. A correlation method is used to obtain universal threshold values, which are applied to various video data. Experimental results show that propose method provides 90% precision and 98% recall rates for abrupt cut, and 59% precision and 79% recall rates for gradual change.

We propose the method of analysis, separation, and express from normalized and standard method to reduce the problem with the existing scene change detection and the complicated and variety of images of real change. In this paper, we propose a new local ${\lambda}^2$-test which was combined the ${\lambda}^2$-existing test methods and local color histograms. This method is robust method of abrupt and gradual detection and solve the problem of traditional method.
