Incidence and Level of Aflatoxins Contamination in Medicinal Plants in Korea

  • During 2011~2013, a total of 729 samples for 19 types of medicinal plant were collected from Seoulyekryungsi in Seoul, Korea, and investigated for the presence of aflatoxins. The samples were analyzed using immunoaffinity column cleanup and high-performance liquid chromatography coupled to a fluorescence detector after post-column derivatization. Aflatoxins were found in 124 out of the 729 analyzed samples: 65 containing aflatoxin B1 (AFB1), 24 with aflatoxin B2 (AFB2), 15 with aflatoxin G1 (AFG1), and 20 samples with aflatoxin G2 (AFG2). The ranges for positive samples were $0.1{\sim}404.7{\mu}g/kg$ for AFB1, $0.1{\sim}10.0{\mu}g/kg$ for AFB2, $0.1{\sim}635.3{\mu}g/kg$ for AFG1, $0.1{\sim}182.5{\mu}g/kg$ for AFG2, and $0.1{\sim}1,043.9{\mu}g/kg$ for total aflatoxins. Most of the medicinal plant samples (721, 98.9%) were below legal limits, but 8 samples exceeded the legal limits of 10 and $15{\mu}g/kg$ established by the Korean standard for AFB1 and total aflatoxins (the sum of AFB1, AFB2, AFG1 and AFG2), respectively.

An Urban Regeneration Project for Making New CBD of Northeastern Seoul: The Case Study of the Changdong & Sanggye Project

  • Although Changdong Sanggye area has been developed during 1980s as a new city for the supply of low-income housing, currently it was degraded to a bed town located outside Seoul. However, Changdong Sanggye area is designated as the center of a metropolitan area in '2030 Seoul City Basic Plan' due to a variety of potential factors such as a traffic center for linking metropolitan areas, location of 15 universities, and neighboring natural environment like Jungnang stream and Buckhan mountain. The purpose of urban regeneration plan is to create a new CBD of Changdong Sanggye which is the center of vocational and cultural lives of 3.2 million people in the northeastern metropolitan area. To achieve the purpose, 12 unit projects and 24 sub-unit projects are set up based on the three major goals and core strategies. An enterprise project team of northeastern area was newly founded and then a dedicated organization was established by the Seoul government in 2015 in order to integrate separated urban regeneration related functions. In the Seoul government an administrative council and a project promotion council are operated for consultation and coordination between the administrative divisions and government projects for urban regeneration. Through the success in Changdong Sanggye regeneration project, they are expected to have economic effects such as job creation and increase in tax revenue and to re-vitalize the area as a new economic center in northeastern Seoul having amenities and cultural facilities and waterfront parks.

Research trends in obesity & obesogenic environments in Korea

  • BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Globally, it has been projected that there will be 2 billion overweight and 1 billion obese individuals by 2030. In Korea, the prevalence of adult obesity (BMI > 25) increased from 29.7% in 2009 to 32.4% in 2015. Moreover, childhood obesity, which leads to adulthood obesity, has increasingly become a social problem. The purpose of this review is to summarize the scientific basis for the development of effective models and policies aimed at preventing obesity over a lifetime based on research modeling obesogenic environments. MATERIALS/METHODS: The review focuses on the characteristics of obesity prevalence and trends in 3P analysis (papers, patents, and products) as well as government-funded projects in Korean obesity obesogenic environments over the last 10 years. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: As a result of the 3P analysis, studies on obesity risk factors were frequently carried out, according to two data bases RISS (4.9%) and PubMed (24.7%). Since there were only 17% patents related to the mechanism of preventing obesity in 7,951 Korean patents related to obesity, new paradigms of technologies to dominate the global obesity markets are needed. After government-funded projects were analyzed, communication and cooperation in multi-governmental departments were suggested to elucidate the characteristics of Korean obesity. Government should also produce short- and long-term road maps to develop a practical, successful outcome. Although the rate of obesity in Korea is currently lower than in other developed countries according to WHO criteria, without adequate governmental intervention, obesity rates will approach those of the top countries with high incidence rates of obesity within the next 10 years.

  • 본 연구는 키워드 네트워크 분석을 이용하여 공공데이터 수요(즉, 공공데이터 제공신청, 검색 질의 등)를 적시에 예측하는 방법을 제안한다. 분석 결과에 따르면, 수요가 높은 토픽에 속하는 공공데이터는 대부분 국내 공공데이터 포털(data.go.kr)에서 제공되고 있지만, 토픽 연관 분석을 통해 예측된 이용자의 실제 요구와 관련된 공공데이터는 거의 제공되지 않고 있다. 공공데이터를 제공(또는 선정)할 때, 이용자의 공공데이터 제공신청과의 관련성보다 공공데이터 토픽과의 관련성이 우선시되기 때문이다. 제안된 키워드 네트워크 분석 프레임워크는 실제 공공데이터 제공신청을 바탕으로 이용자들의 수요를 빠르고 쉽게 예측할 수 있으므로, 향후 공공기관(중앙부처·지방자치단체·산하기관)의 공공데이터 정책 수립에 이바지할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

Investigating the Factors on Public Transportation System for Citizen Relationship and Sustainability

  • Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to investigate key factors that affect customer dissatisfaction on public transportation system by highlighting the necessity of citizen participation and improved management of advanced technology for sustainability. Research questions applied in this study include following; i) how are factors on dissatisfaction related to types of transportation modes; ii) how do perceived proposed factors affect citizen dissatisfaction; iii) how do the improvement of public transportation service affect the level of expected satisfaction; and iv) how do expected satisfaction affect policy agreement and government trust. Research design, data and methodology: For qualitative research, civil opinions were collected and chi-square analysis was applied using keywords. For quantitative research, online survey was collected and factor and multiple regression analyses were applied. 3) Results: This study found that efficiency of operation system and safety on dissatisfaction showed significant in all three public transportation modes. This study found that perception of government policy and trust on government will increase as expected satisfaction increases. Conclusions: This study provides managerial and policy implications on society and policy makers by addressing necessity of improving strategies for public transportation system with the consideration of citizen relationship management and sustainable development.

Promoting the Consumption of Electric Vehicles: an Empirical Study in Vietnam

  • Purpose: Electronic vehicles (EV) consumption become more prevalent among Vietnamese consumers. This paper aims to empirically assess the determinants of EV purchase intention among Vietnamese consumers. The research findings are expected to promote the consumption of electric vehicles in Vietnam. Research design, data and methodology: The quantitative research approach employed the Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA). The sample size includes 301 respodents. Research design unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology (UTAUT) and UTAUT2. The data collection process employ the non-probability sampling. Questionaire survey consists of 24 questions given to respondents via Google Form link. Data is processed by SPSS version 20 software. Results: The results proposed 04 determinants of the intention to buy electric vehicles: Government Support, Environmental Concern, Price Value, and Performance. Conclusions: Theorectical implications and managerial implications are also discussed to promote the consumption of electronic vehicles in Vietnam. Besides, the findings show that Price value, Environmental Concern and Performance positively affect the purchase intention of EV among Vietnamese consumers. Remarkably, Government Support is proven to be an insignificant factor in EV purchase intention. The call for further research rely on the role of government support in order to promote EV consumption in Vietnam and other emerging markets worldwide.

Enhancing the Cybersecurity Checklist for Mobile Applications in DTx based on MITRE ATT&CK for Ensuring Privacy

  • Digital therapeutics (DTx) are utilized to replace or supplement drug therapy to treat patients. DTx are developed as a mobile application for portability and convenience. The government requires security verification to be performed on digital medical devices that manage sensitive information during the transmission and storage of patient data. Although safety verification is included in the approval process for DTx, the cybersecurity checklist used as a reference does not reflect the characteristics of mobile applications. This poses the risk of potentially overlooking vulnerabilities during security verification. This study aims to address this issue by comparing and analyzing existing items based on the mobile tactics, techniques, and procedures of MITRE ATT&CK, which manages globally known and occurring vulnerabilities through regular updates. We identify 16 items that require improvement and expand the checklist to 29 items to propose improvement measures. The findings of this study may contribute to the safe development and advancement of DTx for managing sensitive patient information.

태양력 시행 전후 한국의 역법과 시각제도 변화 (THE CHANGE OF THE CALENDAR AND TIMEKEEPING SYSTEM AROUND ADOPTION OF THE SOLAR CALENDAR IN KOREA)

  • We investigate the provenance and the changes in the timekeeping system focusing on official records such as almanacs and textbooks published by the government after the solar calendar was introduced. We found that the solar calendar and the 12-hour clock time first appeared in 1884 during Joseon dynasty, at that time the solar calendar was used at the open port in Busan to facilitate the exchanges with Japan. The 12-hour clock time first appeared in the 『Hansung Sunbo』 published by the government in 1884. We also found that the Joseon dynasty also used 12 diǎnzhōng or 12 diǎn. In addition, the term of the 'Sigan' first appeared in the first official academic textbook in August 1895, and the chapter related to time contained the information about 12-hour clock time instead of the 12 Shi. In 1908, the meaning of the solar time, the equation of time, and the differences in longitude with the adoption of Korean Standard Time were introduced. Meanwhile, the 24-hour clock time was first introduced in Joseon and applied to railway times in 1907. The 1946 almanac, the first issue after liberation, used the 12-hour clock time which uses 'Sango', 'Hao' and the 24-hour clock time started to be used from the following year and is still used to this day. Finally, the 12-hour clock time, which was introduced around 1884, was enacted as Article 44 of the law in 1900 and was revised again in 1905 and 1908. In Korea, the terms related to the time in the current astronomical calendar system were newly defined around 1884, 1896, and 1908, and gradually standardized through the establishment of laws.

  • 우리와 대치하고 있는 적 북한은 1950년 6월 25일 불법 기습남침을 하였고 1953년 7월 27일 정전협정 조인 이후에도 약 5,000여 회에 이르는 크고 작은 도발을 자행하였다. 특히, 북한은 2010년 3월 26일 천안함을 폭침하여 동년 5월 24일 단행된 5.24대북 재제조치 상태에서도 2010년 11월 23일 연평도 포격도발을 감행하였으며 지난 2015년 8월 4일 또다시 DMZ 목함 지뢰 도발을 하였다. 우리군은 그에 대한 대응으로 확성기 방송을 재개하여 대북 심리전을 재개하자 북한은 준전시 상태를 선포하며 파국으로 가던 중, 남북한은 협상을 시도하여 고위급접촉 과정과 그 결과 공동합의문을 타결하였다. 이러한 고위급접촉을 보며 우리는 너무나 안이한 대응을 하고 있는 것은 아닌지 돌아보며 향후 계속될 북한과의 협상을 어떻게 준비하고 대응할 것인가에 대하여 북한의 협상전술과 우리의 대응방향을 제시하였다.

일제강점기 삼례지역 공간변화와 조성 주체에 관한 연구 - 삼례리, 후정리를 중심으로 - (A Study on Spatial Changes and the Main Agent of Space Creation in Samrye Area during the Japanese Occupation Period - Focusing on Samnye-ri and Hujeong-ri -)

  • This study aims to identify the Spatial Changes and the main agent of space creation in Samrye Area during the Japanese Occupation Period. As for the urban space in the Samrye area, the urban space was expanded to the Hujeong-ri area from the construction of the Jeonbuk light railway. Before 1914, the urban space of Samrye was formed around Samrye Station in Samrye-ri, which oversees Samrye-do from the Goryeo Dynasty to the Joseon Dynasty, but when Samrye Station of Jeonbuk light railway was established in Hujeong-ri in 1914, the foundation of a ladder-type street network visible from the central space of the current Samrye area was formed until the 1930s. And it was the Japanese and Korean landowners who took the lead in the construction of the Jeonbuk light railway, not the government, who expanded the urban space of Samnye from Samrye-ri to Hujeong-ri. The background of the establishment of Jeonbuk light railway is the reason why Dongsan Farm has difficulty in transporting rice to the Honam Line during the rice harvest. At that time, Park Ki-soon, famous as the land king, took charge of the established chairman of the railroad installation and established it, and with the establishment of Samrye Station, the access road was connected to his farm. In addition, a new road was built on the farm land that owned the Hujeong-ri area to the Seoul-Mokpo Interroad in Samrye-ri, thereby expanding the urban space. In other words, unlike Gunsan and Iksan, which were built under the leadership of the Japanese colonial eran government, the urban space in Samrye area was expanded by a farmer who grew up as a large landowner based on agriculture, which was the economic base at the time.
