기만적 데이터 시각화 사례 연구 (Case Studies on Deceptive Data Visualization)

  • 데이터 시각화는 정보 전달의 유용한 도구로 자리 잡아, 전문가뿐만 아니라 일반적인 수준에서도 널리 쓰이고 있다. 하지만 효율적인 만큼 그릇된 정보를 전달하기도 쉽다는 위험을 안고 있다. 모든 데이터 시각화에는 편집자의 의도가 숨어있으며, 때로는 강력한 메시지가 담겨 있다. 이러한 의도를 파악하는 시스템을 구축하는 것은 집단이나 개인의 사상을 이해하는 데에 도움이 되고, 오용된 데이터에 대처할 수 있는 방안이 된다. 기존의 연구 방향은 효과적인 데이터 시각화 방법에 대한 고찰이나 표현 방식에 초점을 둔 연구가 대부분이다. 시각화 방식이 다양해질수록 데이터가 왜곡될 가능성이 커질 것이므로 충분한 대응책이 필요하다. 본 논문에서는 목적 지향적 환경에서 벌어지는 기만적 데이터 시각화에 대한 분석을 제시한다. 인간의 인지 프로세싱이 갖는 취약점을 바탕으로 공격 유형을 분류하여, 데이터 시각화의 맥락에서 어떠한 속임수가 발생하는지 확인한다. 이 연구는 공격적 시각화 사례를 연구하는 첫 번째 단계를 제시하여 추가 연구의 길을 열 것으로 기대한다.

천문올림피아드 국제대회 참가자에 대한 추적연구 (A FOLLOW-UP STUDY ON THE PARTICIPANTS OF INTERNATIONAL ASTRONOMY OLYMPIAD COMPETITIONS)

  • We have carried out a follow-up study on the students who have participated or are going to participate in either the International Astronomy Olympiad (IAO), the Asia Pacific Astronomy Olympiad (APAO) or the International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA) from 2002 to 2011. The survey questionnaires returned from ten high school students including five who are to participate in 2011 as well as fourteen college students have been analyzed in various aspects of their backgrounds and personal characteristics. In family life, their parents tend to have high educational background along with high expectations for their children. In regard to the academic environment, most students express a general satisfaction in school life, including their relationship with teachers and classmates. In personal characteristics, they describe themselves as inquisitive, perseverant, competitive, creative, self-motivated and goal-oriented, in addition to many other traits. Most students have a strong interest in astronomy which usually begins in middle schools through exposure to astronomy books. On top of it, the astronomy olympiad has provided them with an opportunity to strengthen their self-esteem, problem-solving ability and conviction about scientific careers. Accordingly, the experience in astronomy olympiad has led a considerable number of students to continuously studying in astronomy related fields or otherwise in other science and engineering areas. In conclusion, the astronomy olympiad plays such an important role that it can make a significant contribution to astronomy as well as science in general by having positive impact on the potential career path of its participants.

Effect of Cutout Orientation on Stress Concentration of Perforated Plates with Various Cutouts and Bluntness

  • Perforated plates with cutouts (or holes) are widely used in structural members. These cutouts provide stress concentration in plates. Extensive studies have been carried out on stress concentration in perforated plates, which consider cutout shapes, boundary conditions, bluntness of cutouts, and more. This study presents stress concentration analyses of perforated plates with not only various cutouts and bluntness but also different cutout orientations. Especially, the effect of cutout orientation on stress concentration is emphasized since structural members have become more complicated recently. To obtain stress concentration patterns, a finite element program, ANSYS, is used. For the designated goal, three parameters are considered as follows: the shapes of polygonal cutouts (circle, triangle, and square), bluntness (a counter measure of radius ratio, r/R), and rotation of cutouts (${\theta}$). From the analyses, it is shown that, in general, as bluntness increases, the stress concentration increases, regardless of the shape and rotation. A more important finding is that the stress concentration increases as the cutouts become more oriented from the baseline, which is the positive horizontal axis (+x). This fact demonstrates that the orientation is also a relatively significant design factor to reduce stress concentration. In detail, in the case of the triangle cutout, orienting one side of the triangle cutout to be perpendicular to the applied tensile forces is preferable. Similarly, in the case of the square cutout, it is more advantageous to orient two sides of square cutout to be perpendicular to the applied tensile force. Therefore, at the design stage, determining the direction of a major tensile force is required. Then, by aligning those polygon cutouts properly, we can reduce stress concentration.

  • In this study, in regard to the change of the paradigm to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics), we have looked into the ways to apply scientific inquiry through the arts, discussed the educational implications for the ways to step forth with the science and the arts in educational field. In the development of the strategies related to the optical illusion arts, to make sure that the design-oriented science education to reach its goal to make effective teaching, students need to be understood in the method of the artistic designs. Totally it had two rounds for inspection about operation of the convergence with curriculum. As a result, students changed attitude to concentrate in class naturally while doing their art work, participating in person rather than simply looking. It is caused by the scientific approach to strategy of illusion arts. In addition, we could see that students change into a proactive manner as well as teachers comments that they are communicate and make a complete the work with others. A lot of researches give that science can provide the ideas as a method to arts, arts can provide creative ideas to science, but it is still lacking that research can be applied to education specifically on how to. An efforts in the number of collaborative research will continue to introduce, as this study STEAM of science and arts in the field of education be shifted paradigm.

학교도서관의 교수 - 학습지원 프로그램 운영 (A Study on the School Library Media Center Program)

  • 교수-학습의 새로운 패러다임의 변화는 교사와 학생들의 역할에서 찾아볼 수 있다. 가르치는 교사에서 안내자로, 경청하는 학생에서 적극적인 참석자로, 기억을중요시하기보다는새로운지식을창조하고, 교과서에 포함된 기본적인 정보에서 보다 다양한 인쇄매체와 전자정보원에서 새로운 정보를 수집하고 발견하며, 사실중심교육에서 문제해결중심교육으로 지향하고 있다. 이와 같은 현상에서 오늘날의 학교교육은 교실중심교육에서 연장된 학교도서관지원교육으로 변화하는 과정에 이르게 되었다. 새롭게 학교교육을 쇄신하고 개혁하는 운동을 실현시키기 위하여 훌륭한 학교도서관 프로그램을 활용한다는 것은 값진 방법이며 수단인 것이다. 학교도서관에서 교수-학습을 지원하는 프로그램운영의 원리를 알아본 다음, 우리나라 학교도서관에서 현재 실현되고 있는 정도와 미래지향적이며 희망적인 프로그램정도에 대하여 조사하였다. 프로그램의 현재 실현정도와 미래희망정도와는 13개 문항 모두가 유의한 차이를 보였으며 특히 교과과정과 관련된 문항의 현재 실현수준은 낮게 나타났다.

유전의료시대의 "맞춤의학" (Challenge of Personalized Medicine in the Genomic Era)

  • "Personalized medicine," the goal of which is to provide better clinical care by applying patient's own genomic information to their health care is a global challenge for the $21^{st}$ century "genomic era." This is especially true in Korea, where provisions for clinical genetic services are inadequate for the existing demand, let alone future demands. Genomics-based knowledge and tools make it possible to approach each patient as a unique biological individual, which has led to a paradigm-shift in medical practice, giving it more of a predictive focus as compared with current treatment oriented approach. With recent advancements in genomics, many genetic tests, such as susceptibility genetic tests, have been developed for both rare single gene diseases and more common multifactorial diseases. Indeed, genetic tests for presymtomatic individuals and genetic tests for drug response have become widely available, and personalized medicine will face the challenge of assisting patients who use such tests to make appropriate and wise use of genetic risk assessment. A major challenge of genomic medicine lies in understanding and communicating disease risk in order to facilitate and support patients and their families in making informed decisions. Establishment of a health care system with provisions for genetic counseling as an integral part of health care service, in addition to genomic literacy of health care providers, is vital to meet this growing challenge. Realization of the promise of personalized medicine in the era of genomics for improvement of health care is dependent on further development of next generation sequencing technology and affordable sequencing test costs. Also necessary will be policy development concerning the ethical, legal and social issues of genomic medicine and an educated and ready medical community with clinical practice guidelines for genetic counseling and genetic testing.

  • Semiconductor manufacturing has suffered from the complex process behavior of the technology oriented control in the production line. While the technological processes are in charge of the quality and the yield of the product, the operational management is also critical for the productivity of the manufacturing line. The fabrication line in the semiconductor manufacturing is considered as the most complex part because of various kinds of the equipment, re-entrant process routing and various product devices. The efficiency and the productivity of the fabrication line may give a significant impact on the subsequent processes such as the probe line, the assembly line and final test line. In the management of the re-entrant process such as semiconductor fabrication, it is important to keep balanced fabrication line. The Performance measures in the fabrication line are throughput, cycle time, inventory, shortage, etc. In the fabrication, throughput and cycle time are the conflicting performance measures. It is very difficult to achieve two conflicting goal simultaneously in the manufacturing line. The capacity of equipment is important factor in the production planning and scheduling. The production planning consideration of capacity can make the scheduling more realistic. In this paper, an input and scheduling rule are to achieve the balanced operation in semiconductor fabrication line through equipment capacity and workload are proposed and evaluated. New backward projection and scheduling rule consideration of facility capacity are suggested. Scheduling wafers on the appropriate facilities are controlled by available capacity, which are determined by the workload in terms of the meet the production target.

  • The main goal of this paper is to investigate and compare English, German and Korean non-head-bound-intensifiers such as English ‘x-self’, German ‘selbst’, and Korean ‘susulo, casin’. That is, this paper is mainly concerned with the semantic domain where the respective contributions of the expressions in question overlap. The phenomenon under discussion with the label “intensifiers” is regarded as universal, which provides the ground of the comparative/contrastive or semi-cross-linguistic study of this paper. Not only the semantic concept of intensification by these expressions but also the combination of grammatical features or syntactic behaviours thereof seem to have highly invariant common denominators among the wide varieties of languages, even if they come from apparently different language families. In comparing English, German and Korean intensifiers, this paper is interested in the more general features of the expressions in question rather than some language-specific idiocyncracies. Intensifiers work similarly not only in English and German, but also in Korean. Each of three languages under investigation provides some sort of a safegard against confusing instances and misleading judgements on the issues under discussion. Morphologically, however, English expressions in question agree with their rele-vant NP in number, gender and person. Whereas German and Korean counterparts do not have such specific morphological properties. Intensifiers in their non-head-bound-use are subject-oriented, just as in their head-bound use. Non-head-bound-intensifiers differ from head-bound-intensifiers mostly in their syntactic behaviours or distributional properties, whereas they share the semantic domain “intensification” regarding relevant subject-NP. They introduce an ordering and distinguish center and periphery, and ‘self-involvement (directness of involvement)’seems a additional possible characterisation of the relevant dimension of these intensifiers in common. 여성잡지를 통해본 이상적인 여성미 연구 - 80년대, 90년대 기사를 중심으로 - (A Study on Female′s Ideal Beauty Based on Magazine Articles - Focusing on the 80′s and the 90′s -)

  • The purpose of this study was to examine and fully understand the transformation of female's ideal beauty through time based on word analysis. Word selection was made from the very exemplary Women's magazines : Yuhwon, Jubu-Saengwhal, and Yuhsung-Dongah. Further, in order to research the understanding of female's ideal beauty, a random research was done on 445 women, ranging from the ages 20's through 60's. From the result, a frequency analysis was performed to further analyze the meaning of ideal beauty to each sector of the age groups for different time periods : the 1980's and the 1990's. To the 20's, beauty awareness was defined by the word ‘intelligence’, however, the 1980's endorsed confidence with composure and calmness where as the 1990's preferred beauty to be defined by ‘refinement and goal oriented’. The 30's selected ‘individuality’ marked with confidence in character, but there was a shift from ‘mature intelligence’ in the 1980's to ‘professionalism’ in the 1990's. The 40'E chose mediocrity and commonness, however, likewise, a sense of ‘earnestness’ for life and family was looked upon as beautiful. For the 50's, comfort with a reserved tenure was frequently noted and for the 60's, women chose ‘health and independence’ as describing ideal beauty. The results from the research are justifiable because the articles are in a neutral perspective and are from the representative women's magazines. This research proved that the younger the age group, the more exterior beauty was considered, as opposed to the older generation who found inner beauty to be of most importance.

능동학습법을 이용한 한국어 대화체 문장의 효율적 의미 구조 분석 (Efficient Semantic Structure Analysis of Korean Dialogue Sentences using an Active Learning Method)

  • 목적 지향성 대화에서 화자의 의도는 화행과 개념열 쌍으로 구성되는 의미 구조로 근사화될 수 있다. 그러므로 지능형 대화 시스템을 구현하기 위해서는 의미 구조를 올바르게 파악하는 것이 매우 중요하다. 본 논문에서는 능동학습(active learning) 방법을 이용하여 효율적으로 의미 구조를 분석하는 모델을 제안한다. 제안 모델은 언어 분석에 따른 부담을 덜기위하여 형태소 자질들과 이전 의미 구조만을 입력 자질로 사용한다. 그리고 정확률 향상을 위하여 자연어 처리 분야에서 높은 성능을 보이고 있는 CRFs(Conditional Random Fields)를 기본 통계 모델로 사용한다. 일정 관리 영역에서 제안 모델을 실험한 결과는 기존 모델들과 비교하여 1/3 정도의 훈련데이타를 사용하고도 비슷한 정확률(화행 92.4%, 개념열 89.8%)을 나타내고 있음을 알 수 있었다.
