  • As a "kind of" mature ship form, planing hull has been widely used in military and civilian areas. Therefore, a reasonable design for planing hull becomes more and more important. For planing hull, resistance and trim are always the most important problems we are concerned with. It affects the planing hull's economic efficiency and maneuverability very seriously. Instead of the expensive towing tank experiments, the development of computer comprehensive ability allows us to previously apply computational fluid dynamics(CFD)to the ship design. In this paper, the CFD method and Goal Driven Optimization (GDO) were used in the estimations of planing hull resistance and running attitude to provide a possible method for performance computation of planing hull.

  • Due to the growing concerns of energy resource depletion and environmental destruction, the mass production of microalgae has been studied. The scale-up of a photobioreactor (PBR) is required for the mass production of biomass. In this paper, the geometric parameters and oxygen transfer rate (OTR) are considered, to scale up a flat panel photobioreactor (FP PBR). The PBR is designed using the goal-driven optimization (GDO) method to accomplish the scale-up. The local sensitivity of each output parameter with respect to the input parameter is analyzed through the design of experiment (DOE), and the design candidates are evaluated with the screening sampling method. The volumetric mass transfer coefficient is measured by the dynamic method.

  • In this paper, It was performed to optimize for the deck's structural design of a double ended car ferry ship respect to Goal-Driven Optimization (GDO). It was examined for the strength and deformation of the deck and determined to save economic cost the optimal point. The deck thickness based on the Design of Experiments (DOE) and response surface method was increased to 110%. and can improve the deck's strength and stiffness. By performing the regression analysis respect to the result, we propose the optimal regression model formula as a third degree polynomial regression models. The coefficient of determination $R^2$ was about 0.98 and reliability could be obtained.
