  • The low frequency pulsed MIG welding process of new current waveform control to switch over unit pulse conditions (pulse current, pulse duration) in the fixed cycle was developed and its effect were investigated for aluminium and its alloy. By using this new welding process, the bead appearance having clear ripple pattern, such as TIG welding bead can be obtained and the gap tolerance of lap and butt welding joint can be expanded.

유도가열을 이용한 후판 예열공정 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of Thick Plate Preheating Process Using Induction Heating)

  • Induction heating has been applied to the preheating process in various industrial fields. It has been used as a simple device structure, limiting the heating zone through controlled variables, and free-welding positions. It would be helpful to weld thick plates with arc welding such as GMAW. The induction heating process is well suited to this process. In this study, in order to find suitable induction heating parameters, a simulation was conducted with multi physics S/W. Three kinds of material were heated by induction coils designed specially for thick plate. Consequently, steel and nimonic alloy were the most efficient materials for preheating by induction. It can be concluded that the induction heating process is a good method for preheating the thick plate.

  • Major problems in welding Al-7020 include shrinkage, rpopositgy in welds and loss of strength in the heat affected zone. Thus it is important to examine the mechanical properties and reliability of welds. In this study, a series of experiments was carried out to determine the mechanical properties such as micro-hardness distribution, tensile strength, porosity and residual stress distribution of the Al-7020 weldment made by pulse-GMA welding. The resuts of the experiemnts are as folows. 1) The micro-hardness of weld metal and heat affected zone was lower than that of the base metal. 2) The tensile strength of the deposited metal was much lower than that of the base metal. 3) The porrosity in weld metal zone was negligible under the adopted conditsion of experiemnts. 4) The residual stress in the weld metal was lower than that of the heat affected zone, because the weld metal was softened. And the mciro-hardness distribution, the tensile strength and the residual stess distribution of the weldment in the as-welded condition were compared with those of the weldment after heat treatment.

  • Electromagnetic force is one of the most important factor that effect on metal transfer mode, short-circuit rate, spatter generation rate and mechanical properties of weld metal etc. Also, shielding gas and welding current have influence on metal transfer mode in GMAW. In this paper, different ways for external electromagnetic forces are applied by attaching cylindrically rounded conducting wire solenoid on touch tip holding. With the applied electromagnetic field, the arc transfer mode changes from normal mode to rotating mode and spatter generation decreased in electromagnetic fields(N-pole). In MIG welding, the influences of electromagnetic force on the spatter generation showed different tendency as in the $CO_2$ welding. It is possible reasons were discussed.

  • A CCD camera with a laser stripe was applied to realize the automatic weld seam tracking in GMAW. It takes relatively long time to process image on-line control using the basic Hough transformation, but it has a tendency of robustness over the noises such as spatter and arc tight. For this reason, it was complemented with adaptive Hough transformation to have an on-line processing ability for scanning specific weld points. The adaptive Hough transformation was used to extract laser stripes and to obtain specific weld points. The 3-dimensional information obtained from the vision system made it possible to generate the weld torch path and to obtain the information such as width and depth of weld line. In this study, a neural network based on the generalized delta rule algorithm was adapted for the process control of GMA, such as welding speed, arc voltage and wire feeding speed.

  • Gas metal arc welding(GMAW) uses a continuously fed electrode as a filler metal. The arc is shielded from atmospheric contamination by an inert gas active or inert/active gas mixture delivered through the welding gun and cable assembly. The recent research topics on $CO_2$ are welding machines are focused mainly on the reduction method of generated spatter by using new type consumable electrode metal or inverter control method. The various current waveform control methods have been researched for welding performance improvement. Until now current waveform control methods reduce to spatter occurred by instantaneous short circuiting,. but these methods is drawback that no reduce spatter occurred by arc reignition. In this paper the previous arc reignition current control method for welding performance improvement of inverter arc welding machine is studied and compared the various current control methods with the previous arc reignition current control method.

표면 다점 온도 측정을 이용한 용접 중 용융지 크기 추정

  • 최근 생산성 향상을 위해 용접 자동화가 실용 분야, 특히 GMAW 공정에서 활발히 진행되고있다. 그러 나, 현 수준의 용접 자동화는 완전 자동화에는 이르지 못하고 단지 주어진 용접 조건과 용접 경로로 용 접을 실행하는 로보트 시스템의 채용으로 인간의 작업을 대체하는 정도이다. 이와 같은 로보트 시스템 을 이용한 자동화에 있어서는 예기치못한 공정의 변동에 대처하기 위한 공정 중 용접질 모니터링이 더욱 중요해지고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이 목적으로 표면의 다점 온도를 측정하여 이 중 한점의 온도와 이점 이점 부근의 온도 구배로써 용융지 크기 추정 지수를 구성하였다. 이 지수는 온도 변수들과 대응 용융지 크기 간에 다중 회귀 방법을 이용하여 최소 추정 오차가 발생하도록 설정된 수학적 모델이다. 제안된 지 수의 추정 성능을 평가하기 위해 용접 열전도 모델로 부터 얻은 용융지 크기와 표면 온도분포 data를 이용 하여 일련의 시뮬레이션 연구를 실시하였다. 이 과정에서 지수 구성 온도 변수들의 차수가 추정 성능에 미치는 영향과 온도 측정 위치에 따른 추정 성능의 민감도를 추정 오차와 오차 분산을 통해 분석하고, 지수를 사용하였을 때의 추정성능을 한점 온도를 이용하는 경우와 비교 평가하였다.

HSB600강의 용접 후 열처리에 따른 기계적 특성 변화 연구 (The effect of PWHT on the mechanical properties of HSB600 steel)

  • The effects of heat input(1.5~3.6kJ/mm) and postweld heat treatment(PWHT, $600^{\circ}C$, 40hr.) on the TMCP HSB600 steel weldments made by GMAW process were investigated. The tensile strength and CVN impact energy of as-welded specimens decreased with increasing heat input. The fine-grained acicular ferrite was mainly formed in the low heat input while polygonal and side plate ferrites were dominated in the high inputs. Meanwhile, tensile strength and hardness of PWHT weldments decreased due to the coarsening of microstructure and reduction of residual stresses.

  • 최근 인건비의 급격한 상승과 용접 숙련공의 절대부족 현상은 용접에 있어서 자동화를 절실히 요구하게 되었다. 용접 자동화에 가장 많이 이용되고 있는 용접방법으로 크게 아크 용접과 스 폿용접으로 대별할 수 있는데 이는 작동이 간단하고 가격이 저렴하여 대량 생산이 가능하기 때 문이다. 아크용접은 아크를 열원으로 사용하는 용접법으로 아크 온도는 지구상에 존재하는 모든 금속을 용융시키기에 충분하지만 아크의 독특하고 복잡한 성질 때문에 오랫동안 연구가 되어 왔다. 용접자동화, 특히 무인용접 자동화설계를 위해서는 아크의 물리적 현상에 대한 특성해석을 하여야 하며, 후판용접에 주로 이용되는 GMAW에서는 금속이행 현상을 중점 연구함으로써 아크안정성 및 양질의 비이드 현상을 생성 할 수 있다. 따라서 기본적인 아크의 전기적 특성을 알고, 용접 가공시 아크의 온도, Arc force등의 기계적 성질을 이해하는 것이 필요하다.

  • World demand for natural gas has generated the need for many new land transmission pipelines to be installed in the next decade or so. Although mechanized gas metal arc welding is well developed, there are opportunities for cost savings by using alternative welding processes. Hybrid Nd:YAG laser - gas metal arc welding enables fibre optic delivery of the laser energy to a robotic welding head to be combined with the addition of extra energy and a consumable to produce good quality, deep penetration welds in a single pass. The present paper describes initial procedure development to optimize the laser and gas metal arc welding parameters for making joints in pipeline steel. Satisfactory joint quality was obtained and it is intended to develop the process to prototype field trials.
