  • A combined process of a mechanical ball milling and liquid glycerin ($C_{3}H_{8}O_3$) treatment of boron (B) powder has been conducted to enhance the superconducting properties of $MgB_2$. The individual aims of the mechanical milling and the glycerin treatment were to reduce the grain size of the $MgB_2$ and to achieve homogeneous carbon (C) incorporation into the $MgB_2$, respectively. Four kinds of B powders of as-received, glycerin treated, 2 h milled, and 2 h milled + glycerin treated were prepared. $MgB_2$ bulks were fabricated by in situ process using the prepared B powders. The mechanical ball milling was effective for a grain refinement, and a lattice disorder was easily achieved by glycerin addition. It was found that the critical current density ($J_c$) values were enhanced in the samples with milled B or glycerin treated B only. In the $MgB_2$ bulk prepared with both milled and glycerin treated B, the $J_c$ was further increased due to a higher grain boundary density and a greater C substitution.

초음파 적용시 전파매질에 따른 표면열과 심부열의 변화 (The Change of Superficial and Deep Heats in Ultrasound Application by Coupling Media)

  • The purpose of this study was carried out in five rabbits of 3kg to investigate the change of superficial and deep heats in ultrasound application by coupling media. Temperature measured with thermistor needle at skin. subcutaneous, muscle in before coupling media application, after coupling media application. 2minutes. 5minutes, 7minutes, 10minutes. Coupling media was used gel, glycerin, distilled water. The data was analyzed using spss/pc+and t-test The results were as fallow : 1. With skin. gel was significant temperature change in 2minutes(p<.05). glycerin was significant temperature change in 2minutes(p<.05), 5minutes(p<.05), 7minutes(p<.01), 10minutes(p<.01). distilled water was significant temperature change in post coupling media(p<.05), 2minutes(p<.01). 5minutes(p<.05). 7minutes(p<.01). 10minutes(p<.01). With subcutaneous. gel was no temperature change. glycerin was significant temperature change in 2minutes(p<.05), 5minutes(p<.05), 10minutes(p<.01). distilled water was no temperature change. With muscle. gel was no temperature change. glycerin was significant temperature change in 2minutes(p<.05). 5minutes(p<.05). 7minutes(p<.05). 10minutes( p<.05). distilled water was significant temperature change in 10minutes(p<.05). 2. Superficial heats of skin and subcutaneous was higher temperature change than Deep heats of muscle. 3. Gel. glycerin. distilled Water required minimum treatment 10minutes fur thermal effect. 4. Gel was low temperature change superficial and deep heats. and glycerin was high temperature change superficial and deep heats. This results show that gel is high transmissiveness in the coupling media and glycerin is low transmissiveness in the coupling media.

마그네슘과 글리세린 처리한 붕소 분말로 합성한 Mg(B1-xCx)2의 초전도 특성 (Superconducting Properties of Mg(B1-xCx)2 Bulk Synthesized Using Magnesium and Glycerin-treated Boron Powder)

  • Carbon was known to be one of effective additives which can improve the flux pinning of $MgB_2$ at high magnetic fields. In this study, glycerin $(C_3H_8O_3)$ was selected as a chemical carbon source for the improvement of critical current density of $MgB_2$. In order to replace some of boron atoms by carbon atoms, the boron powder was heat-treated with liquid glycerin. The glycerin-treated boron powder was mixed with an appropriate amount of magnesium powder to $MgB_2$ composition and the powder pallets were heat treated at $650^{\circ}C\;and\;900^{\circ}C$ for 30 min in a flowing argon gas. It was found that the superconducting transition temperature $(T_c)$ of $Mg(B_{1-x}C_x)_2$ prepared using glycerin-treated boron powder was 36.6 K, which is slightly smaller than $T_c$(37.1 K) of undoped $MgB_2$. The critical current density $(J_c)$ of $Mg(B_{1-x}C_x)_2$ was higher than that of undoped $MgB_2$ and the $T_c$ improvement effect was more remarkable at higher magnetic fields. The $T_c$, decrease and $J_c$ increase associated with the glycerin treatment for boron powder was explained in terms of the carbon substitution to boron site.

Preparation of high-performance nanofiltration membrane with antioxidant properties

  • In industrial production, the development of traditional polyamide nanofiltration (NF) membrane was limited due to its poor oxidation resistance, complex preparation process and high cost. In this study, a composite NF membrane with high flux, high separation performance, high oxidation resistance and simple process preparation was prepared by the method of dilute solution dip coating. And the sulfonated polysulfone was used for dip coating. The results indicated that the concentration of glycerin, the pore size of the based membrane, the composition of the coating solution, and the post-treatment process had important effects on the structure and performance of the composite NF membrane. The composite NF membrane prepared without glycerol protecting based membrane had a low flux, when the concentration of glycerin increased from 5% to 15%, the pure water flux of the composite NF membrane increased from 46.4 LMH to 108.2 LMH, and the salt rejection rate did not change much. By optimizing the coating system, the rejection rate of Na2SO4 and PEG1000 was higher than 90%, the pure water flux was higher than 40 LMH (60psi), and it can withstand 20,000 ppm.h NaClO solution cleaning. When the post treatment processes was adjusted, the salt rejection rate of NaCl solution (250 ppm) reached 45.5%, and the flux reached 62.2 LMH.

Effect of supplementary glycerin on milk composition and heat stability in dairy goats

  • Objective: This experiment was studied the effects of various levels of crude glycerin (CG) in dairy goat diet on daily intake, milk yield, milk composition, some physical properties and some quality changes of goat milk after sterilization. Methods: Twelve 75% Saanen dairy goats (body weight = $49{\pm}3kg$; days in milk = $60{\pm}12d$) were randomly assigned in a completely randomized design to evaluate the effects of three experimental diets consisting of 0%, 5%, and 10% CG (dry matter basis) which were formulated to meet or exceed the nutrient requirements of goats. Experimental dairy goats were evaluated for feed and milk yield. Milk samples were analyzed for their composition, including fatty acids, casein profile, fat globule size, and color, and were sterilized to evaluate milk heat stability. Results: There were no significant differences between 0% and 5% CG treatments infeed. Increasing CG supplementation from 0% to 5% increased milk yield from $2.38{\pm}0.12$ to $2.64{\pm}0.23kg/goat/d$. In addition, milk samples from 5% CG treatment had the highest total solids, fat content and lactose content, and largest fat globule size. Increasing CG to 10% resulted in a decrease in milk fat. After sterilizing at $116^{\circ}C$, $F_0=3min$, goat milk samples from 5% CG treatment had slightly higher sediment content and comparatively higher degree of browning. Conclusion: Considering milk yield, milk fat content and quality of sterilized milk, 5% CG supplementation in a total mixed ration has a potential for implementation in dairy goats.

인공수침 칠기를 이용한 고대칠기 보존연구 (Conservation of Excavated Lacquer-wares for using artificially water-soaked Lacquer-wares)

  • 고대칠기 보존처리를 모의시험하기 위하여 현생 칠기를 대상으로 다양한 보존처리법을 적용한 결과 PEG#3350 40%(수용액)처리가 수축률이 낮아 치수안정화 처리효과가 우수한 것으로 나타났다. Sucrose 19%+Glycerin 1%(t-butanol 5% in water)처리의 경우 지속적으로 중량이 증가되었다. 반면 Sucrose의 함침처리과정에서 시험편내부와 처리용액의 농도평형을 이루지 못하여 농도 차가 발생되므로 내부의 수분이 시험편 밖으로 나오는 탈수현상에 의해 중량이 감소하였다. 따라서 보다 긴 함침기간이 요구되는 것으로 판단되며 이는 장기간 함침처리로 탈수 현상을 방지할 수 있다. 또한 고분자량(PEG #3,350)의 처리제와 저분자량의 처리제 모두 칠기 내부로의 침투가 확인되어 진공 동결건조법뿐 만 아니라 각 처리제를 고농도로 함침 처리 한 후 자연건조 조습건조처리도 가능함을 보여주고 있다.

Effects of Dietary Crude Glycerin Supplementation on Nutrient Digestibility, Ruminal Fermentation, Blood Metabolites, and Nitrogen Balance of Goats

  • This experiment was conducted to evaluate the effects of increasing concentrations of crude glycerin (CGLY) in diets on nutrient utilization, ruminal fermentation characteristics, and nitrogen utilization of goats. Four male crossbred (Thai Native${\times}$Anglo Nubian) goats, with an average initial weight of $26{\pm}3.0$ kg, were randomly assigned according to a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design with four 21 days consecutive periods. Treatments diets contained 0%, 5%, 10%, and 20% of dietary DM of CGLY. Based on this experiment, there were no significant differences (p>0.05) among treatment groups regarding DM intake and digestion coefficients of nutrients (DM, OM, CP, EE, NDF, and ADF). Likewise, mean serum glucose, BHBA, and PCV concentrations were not affected (p>0.05) by dietary treatments, whereas serum insulin concentration linearly increased (L, p = 0.002) with increasing the amount of CGLY supplementation. Ruminal pH, $NH_3$-N, and BUN concentration were unchanged by dietary treatments, except for 20% of CGLY, $NH_3$-N, and BUN were lower (p<0.05) than for the diets 10% of CGLY, while the difference between the diets 0%, 5%, and 20% of CGLY were not significant. The amount of N absorption and retention were similar among treatments. Based on this study, CGLY levels up to 20% in total mixed ration could be efficiently utilized for goats and this study elucidates a good approach to exploiting the use of biodiesel production for goat production.

Effects of Elevated Crude Glycerin Concentrations on Feedlot Performance and Carcass Characteristics in Finishing Steers

  • Twenty crossbred steers ($400{\pm}40.1kg$ of initial body weight) were used to assess the effects of a dietary supplementation with crude glycerin (CG) as a substitute for corn grain on performance, carcass traits, and meat quality. Four isocaloric and isonitrogenous diets were offered to the experimental animals (5 steers per treatment) for 121 days using randomized complete block design. The steers individually received dietary treatments containing 0%, 7%, 14%, and 21% of CG (88.91% pure) on a dry matter (DM) basis. The diets were offered ad libitum as total mixed rations twice daily. Weight gain and carcass traits were determined. At the end of the experimental period, the harvest data and carcass characteristics of the steers were recorded, and meat quality was determined. No significant effect of CG inclusion was observed in any of the growth performance and carcass characteristics traits studied. Also, there were no apparent effects of diets (p>0.05) on meat quality (pH, water holding capacity, drip losses, and cooking losses). The study concluded that CG could be used as a substitute for corn grain up to the level of approximately 21% of DM in the diets of finishing steers.
