One-node and two-node hybrid coarse-mesh finite difference algorithm for efficient pin-by-pin core calculation

  • This article presents a new global-local hybrid coarse-mesh finite difference (HCMFD) method for efficient parallel calculation of pin-by-pin heterogeneous core analysis. In the HCMFD method, the one-node coarse-mesh finite difference (CMFD) scheme is combined with a nodal expansion method (NEM)-based two-node CMFD method in a nonlinear way. In the global-local HCMFD algorithm, the global problem is a coarse-mesh eigenvalue problem, whereas the local problems are fixed source problems with boundary conditions of incoming partial current, and they can be solved in parallel. The global problem is formulated by one-node CMFD, in which two correction factors on an interface are introduced to preserve both the surface-average flux and the net current. Meanwhile, for accurate and efficient pin-wise core analysis, the local problem is solved by the conventional NEM-based two-node CMFD method. We investigated the numerical characteristics of the HCMFD method for a few benchmark problems and compared them with the conventional two-node NEM-based CMFD algorithm. In this study, the HCMFD algorithm was also parallelized with the OpenMP parallel interface, and its numerical performances were evaluated for several benchmarks.

  • 상수관망은 많은 관을 통해 물의 수요가 있는 곳으로 물을 공급해주는 역할을 하는 사회기반 시설물이다. 상수관망 설계의 요점은 두 가지로 구분할 수 있다. 첫 번째 요점은 다양한 종류의 관배치로 인한 상수관망 설계안의 많은 경우의 수이다. 두 번째 요점은 상수관망 내 절점의 최저 요구수압 등의 제약조건이다. 두 가지 요점이 있는 상황에서 상수관망 설계비용의 최소화를 위한 상수관망 최적설계는 많은 계산이 요구된다. 많은 계산이 요구되기 때문에 상수관망 최적설계에 최적화 기법을 적용할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 상수관망 최적설계를 위해 적용된 최적화 기법은 Hybrid Rate(HR)를 개선한 Hybrid Vision Correction Algorithm(HVCA)이다. HVCA는 Vision Correction Algorithm(VCA)을 기반으로 추가적인 전역탐색을 실행하는 Centralized Global Search(CGS)의 적용 및 자가적응형 매개변수인 Hybrid Rate(HR)를 적용하여 사용성과 성능을 개량한 알고리즘이다. HVCA의 기존 HR은 선형적으로 증가하는 형태이다. 선형적으로 증가하는 HR로 인해 HVCA는 최적해 탐색과정에서 지역해에 빠지는 문제가 발생하였다. HVCA의 문제를 해결하기 위해 HR을 비선형적으로 증가하는 형태로 개량하였다. HR이 개량된 HVCA를 수자원공학 문제인 상수관망 최적설계 문제에 적용하여 결과를 비교하였다. 적용결과 HR이 개량된 HVCA가 기존의 HVCA보다 낮은 설계 비용을 나타내었다. 상수관망 최적설계 적용결과를 바탕으로 HR이 개량된 HVCA는 상수관망 최적설계 이외의 수자원공학 문제에도 적용가능할 것이다.

Estimating global solar radiation using wavelet and data driven techniques

  • The objective of this study is to apply a hybrid model for estimating solar radiation and investigate their accuracy. A hybrid model is wavelet-based support vector machines (WSVMs). Wavelet decomposition is employed to decompose the solar radiation time series into approximation and detail components. These decomposed time series are then used as inputs of support vector machines (SVMs) modules in the WSVMs model. Results obtained indicate that WSVMs can successfully be used for the estimation of daily global solar radiation at Champaign and Springfield stations in Illinois.

전역 및 국소 최적화탐색을 위한 향상된 유전 알고리듬의 제안 (An Enhanced Genetic Algorithm for Global and Local Optimization Search)

  • This paper proposes a combinatorial method to compute the global and local solutions of optimization problem. The present hybrid algorithm is the synthesis of a genetic algorithm and a local concentrate search algorithm (simplex method). The hybrid algorithm is not only faster than the standard genetic algorithm, but also gives a more accurate solution. In addition, this algorithm can find both the global and local optimum solutions. An optimization result is presented to demonstrate that the proposed approach successfully focuses on the advantages of global and local searches. Three numerical examples are also presented in this paper to compare with conventional methods.

  • 본 논문에서는 구조물의 전역적인 손상도 평가와 국부 구조 연결부의 손상 검색을 동시에 수행할 수 있는 하이브리드 구조 손상 모니터링 체계가 제시되었다. 하이브리드 손상 모니터링 체계는 진동기반 기법과 전기/역학적 임피던스 기법으로 구성되었다. 진동기반 기법은 구조물의 모드특징의 변화를 사용하여 구조물의 전역적 특성의 변화를 감지하고, 전기/역학적 임피던스 기법은 PZT 센서의 저항 변화를 사용하여 국부 구조 연결부의 손상 여부를 검출한다. 제안된 하이브리드 모니터링 체계를 검증하기 위해 구조 연결부의 볼트 풀림 상황을 손상 시나리오로 선택하였으며, 가속도 응답과 임피던스 응답 신호가 계측되었다. 실험 결과, 제안된 하이브리드 모니터링 체계를 통해 구조물의 전역적 손상 상태와 국부 구조 연결부의 손상을 정확하게 모니터링 할 수 있었다.

SWRO-PRO 복합해수담수화 신공정기술의 연구 (The study of a novel SWRO-PRO hybrid desalination technology)

  • SWRO-PRO hybrid desalination technology is recently getting more attention especially in large desalination markets such as USA, Middle East, Japan, Singapore, etc. because of its promising potential to recover a considerable amount of osmotic energy from brine (a high-concentration solution of salt, 60,000 - 80,000 mg/L) and also to minimize the impact of the discharged brine into a marine ecosystem. By the research and development of the core technologies of the SWRO-PRO desalination system in a national desalination research project (Global MVP) supported by Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT) and Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement (KAIA), it is anticipated that around 25% of total energy consumption rate (generally 3 to $4kWh/m^3$) of the SWRO desalination can be reduced by recovering the brine's osmotic energy utilizing wastewater treatment effluent as a PRO feed solution and an isobaric pressure exchanger (PX, ERI) as a PRO energy converter. However, there are still several challenges needed to be overcome in order to ultimately commercialize the novel SWRO-PRO process. They include system optimization and integration, development of efficient PRO membrane and module, development of PRO membrane fouling control technology, development of design and operation technology for the system scaling-up, development of diverse business models, and so on. In this paper, the current status and progress of the pilot study of the newly developed SWRO-PRO hybrid desalination technology is discussed.

계층적 분할 기법과 완화된 국부 탐색 알고리즘을 이용한 효율적인 광역 배치 (Efficient Global Placement Using Hierarchical Partitioning Technique and Relaxation Based Local Search)

  • 본 논문에서는 "middle-down" 접근법에 기반한 기존의 표준 셀 배치기인 하이브리드 배치기$^{[25]}$의 단점을 보완한 효율적인 광역배치 알고리즘을 제안한다. hMETIS(클러스터링을 이용한 다단계 하이퍼그래프 분할기법)에 사용된 기법과 RBLS(Relaxation Based Local Search) 기법의 적절한 조합을 통해 기존 하이브리드 배치기의 광역배치 기능을 향상시킨다. hMETIS를 통한 분할기법을 "top-down" 방식으로 적용하고, 각 단계에서 RBLS를 사용하여 광역배치를 점진적으로 개선해 나가는 제안된 기법은 초기 배치에 크게 영향을 받는 기존 방법의 문제점을 해결하고, 실행 속도를 개선하면서도 배치의 질을 떨어뜨리지 않는 효과적인 기법이다. 제안한 알고리즘을 통해 구현된 개선된 배치기는 기존의 하이브리드 배치기나 FengShui와 같은 우수한 툴과 비교할 때 뒤지지 않는 성능을 보인다. 특별히 기존의 하이브리드 배치기에 비해 실행 속도 면에서 평균 5배 정도의 개선을 보였고, 큰 회로에 대해선 배선길이도 줄어드는 향상된 결과를 보였다.

Global seismic damage assessment of high-rise hybrid structures

  • Nowadays, many engineers believe that hybrid structures with reinforced concrete central core walls and perimeter steel frames offer an economical method to develop the strength and stiffness required for seismic design. As a result, a variety of such structures have recently been applied in actual construction. However, the performance-based seismic design of such structures has not been investigated systematically. In the performance-based seismic design, quantifying the seismic damage of complete structures by damage indices is one of the fundamental issues. Four damage states and the final softening index at each state for high-rise hybrid structures are suggested firstly in this paper. Based on nonlinear dynamic analysis, the relation of the maximum inter-story drift, the main structural characteristics, and the final softening index is obtained. At the same time, the relation between the maximum inter-story drift and the maximum roof displacement over the height is also acquired. A double-variable index accounting for maximum deformation and cumulative energy is put forward based on the pushover analysis. Finally, a case study is conducted on a high-rise hybrid structure model tested on shaking table before to verify the suggested quantities of damage indices.

A Novel Hybrid Intelligence Algorithm for Solving Combinatorial Optimization Problems

  • The ant colony optimization (ACO) algorithm is a new heuristic algorithm that offers good robustness and searching ability. With in-depth exploration, the ACO algorithm exhibits slow convergence speed, and yields local optimization solutions. Based on analysis of the ACO algorithm and the genetic algorithm, we propose a novel hybrid genetic ant colony optimization (NHGAO) algorithm that integrates multi-population strategy, collaborative strategy, genetic strategy, and ant colony strategy, to avoid the premature phenomenon, dynamically balance the global search ability and local search ability, and accelerate the convergence speed. We select the traveling salesman problem to demonstrate the validity and feasibility of the NHGAO algorithm for solving complex optimization problems. The simulation experiment results show that the proposed NHGAO algorithm can obtain the global optimal solution, achieve self-adaptive control parameters, and avoid the phenomena of stagnation and prematurity.

하이브리드자동차 고전압 시스템 인터록 회로 이상 시 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (A study on the Interlock Circuit Abnormality of High Voltage System in HEV)

  • Recently, global warming has been accelerated due to air pollution and air pollutants are coming from the exhaust of the ICE vehicles, which are gradually increasing in number globally. That is why all the countries in the world are striving to reduce pollutant emissions of automobiles by strengthening regulations on air pollution. To comply with the regulations, the auto industry came up with hybrid vehicles, which have features of both ICE vehicles and electric vehicles. Hybrid vehicles show improvements in emissions, fuel efficiency, as well as functions as electric vehicles. This study aims to show possible troubles that occur at times of damages in high-voltage systems, and to suggest responsive measures.
