Structure and Thermal Properties of SnO2-(1-x)P2O5-xB2O3 Glasses (SnO2-(1-x)P2O5-xB2O3 유리의 열적, 구조적 특성)

  • $SnO_2-(1-x)P_2O_5-xB_2O_3$ glass system were prepared by melt-quenching technique in the compositional series containing 50, 55 and 60 mol% of $SnO_2$. Local structure of the glasses was investigated by Raman and FT-IR measurements. A large glass-forming region was found at the phosphate side of the ternary system with homogeneous glasses containing up to 5~25 mol% of $B_2O_3$. According as content of $B_2O_3$ increases, theraml expansion coefficient of glass decreased but transition temperature and softening temperature increased. Because these phenomenon changed local structure of glass. According as content of $B_2O_3$ increases, quantity of bridging oxygen increased. Also, according as content of $SnO_2$ increases, confirmed that quantity of non-bridging oxygen increases.

Electro-chemical properties of $Li_{2}O=P_{2}O_{5}-V_{2}O_{5}$ Glass-ceramics for Cathode Materials (정극재료용 $Li_{2}O=P_{2}O_{5}-V_{2}O_{5}$ 계 결정화 유리의 전기화학적 특성)

  • Vanadate glasses in the Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ system containing 10~20mo1% glass former, P$_2$O$_{5}$ were prepared by melting the batch in pt. crucible followed by quenching on the copper plate. We found that Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ g1ass-ceramics obtained from crystallization of glass showed significantly higher capacity and longer cycle life than Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ g1ass. In the present paper, we describe electro-chemical properties during crystallization process and find the best crystallization condition of Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ g1ass as cathod material. Li$_2$O-P$_2$O$_{5}$-V$_2$O$_{5}$ glass-ceramics shows superior rechargeable capacity of 220 mAh/g in the cycling between 2.0 and 3.9V. between 2.0 and 3.9V.

  • Ternary tellurite glassy systems ($Li_2O-V_2O_5-TeO_2$) have been synthesised using Vanadium oxide as a network former and Lithium oxide as network modifier. The addition of a metal oxide makes them electric or mixed electric-ionic conductors, which are of potential interest as cathode materials for solid-state batteries. This glass-ceramics crystallized from the $Li_2O-V_2O_5-TeO_2$ system are particularly interesting, because they exhibit high conductivity (up to $5.63{\times}10^{-5}$ S/cm) at room temperature the glass samples were prepared by quenching the melt on the copper plate and the glass-ceramics were heat-treated at crystallizing temperature determined from differential thermal analysis (DTA). The electric DC conductivity result have been analyzed in terms of a small polaron-hopping model.

Effect of Additive Composition on Flexural Strength of Cullet-Loess Tile Bodies (첨가제의 조성이 폐유리-점토 타일의 곡강도에 미치는 영향)

  • Cullet-loess tile bodies are successfully fabricated using cullet, loess, hollow microspheres, and sintering additives (borosilicate glass frit, boric acid, or fumed silica) as starting materials. The effects of the additive composition and sintering temperature on the sintered density and flexural strength of the cullet-loess tile bodies are investigated. The sintered density of the cullet-loess tile bodies increases with an increase in the sintering temperature as a result of the enhanced densification of pore walls through the viscous flow of a liquid phase formed from the glass frit and sintering additives. The flexural strength of the cullet-loess tile bodies increases with increases in the sintering temperature and the cullet content in the starting composition. A maximal flexural strength of 40 MPa is obtained in cullet-loess tile bodies sintered with glass frit at $800^{\circ}C$ in air.

  • Microstructures of free surface and interior of glass-ceramics obtained by heat treating silicate glass specimen containing electric arc furnace dust(EAF dust) were observed. The crystallization temperature, $T_c$ of glassy specimen was measured around $850^{\circ}C$ from the result of different thermal analysis so heat treatment temperature to obtain glass-ceramic specimen was selected as $950^{\circ}C$ for 1 hr. Glass specimens containing 50 wt% dust were amorphous, while glass specimens containing 70 wt% dust showed spinel crystal peaks in XRD results. In case of glass-ceramic specimens, spinel crystalline phase was appeared with willemite, and willemite crystal peak intensity increased with increasing dust contents. The fractured surface of glass specimens containing 50 wt% dust was smooth like mirror surface, but that containing 70 wt% dust showed spinel crystals of 10 ${\mu}m$ size in glass matrix. In case of glass-ceramic specimens, ZnO crystal particles of $2{\sim}5{\mu}m$ size were produced in free surface and glassy phase, spinel and willemite crystal phases existed in interior. There were no crystals in glasses containing 50 wt% dust, while glass containing 70 wt% dust had 14 vol% crystals. Crystallinity of glass-ceramic specimens containing 50 and 70 wt% dust were 19 and 43%, respectively. When microstructures of glass and glass-ceramic specimens were observed through SEM after TCLP experiment, glass specimens showed flaking phenomenon while glass-ceramic specimens showed a slight corrosion evidence without any cracks.

Tensile strength of bilayered ceramics and corresponding glass veneers

  • PURPOSE. To investigate the microtensile bond strength between two all-ceramic systems; lithium disilicate glass ceramic and zirconia core ceramics bonded with their corresponding glass veneers. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Blocks of core ceramics (IPS e.max$^{(R)}$ Press and Lava$^{TM}$ Frame) were fabricated and veneered with their corresponding glass veneers. The bilayered blocks were cut into microbars; 8 mm in length and $1mm^2$ in cross-sectional area (n = 30/group). Additionally, monolithic microbars of these two veneers (IPS e.max$^{(R)}$ Ceram and LavaTM Ceram; n = 30/group) were also prepared. The obtained microbars were tested in tension until fracture, and the fracture surfaces of the microbars were examined with fluorescent black light and scanning electron microscope (SEM) to identify the mode of failure. One-way ANOVA and the Dunnett's T3 test were performed to determine significant differences of the mean microtensile bond strength at a significance level of 0.05. RESULTS. The mean microtensile bond strength of IPS e.max$^{(R)}$ Press/IPS e.max$^{(R)}$ Ceram ($43.40{\pm}5.51$ MPa) was significantly greater than that of Lava$^{TM}$ Frame/Lava$^{TM}$ Ceram ($31.71{\pm}7.03$ MPa)(P<.001). Fluorescent black light and SEM analysis showed that most of the tested microbars failed cohesively in the veneer layer. Furthermore, the bond strength of Lava$^{TM}$ Frame/Lava$^{TM}$ Ceram was comparable to the tensile strength of monolithic glass veneer of Lava$^{TM}$ Ceram, while the bond strength of bilayered IPS e.max$^{(R)}$ Press/IPS e.max$^{(R)}$ Ceram was significantly greater than tensile strength of monolithic IPS e.max$^{(R)}$ Ceram. CONCLUSION. Because fracture site occurred mostly in the glass veneer and most failures were away from the interfacial zone, microtensile bond test may not be a suitable test for bonding integrity. Fracture mechanics approach such as fracture toughness of the interface may be more appropriate to represent the bonding quality between two materials.

Effect of MgO and coloring agents on the coloring in zirconia-glass frit system (Zirconia-Glass frit 조성에서 MgO 및 착색료가 소결체의 색상 변화에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of MgO and coloring agents on the physical properties and color of zirconia based ceramics with glass frit were studied. The addition of MgO was effective on the coloring of zirconia-20wt% glass frit system. Major factor on the coloring was turned out to be sintering temperature. Coloring agents was turned out to be more effective than the addition of MgO on the coloring of zirconia base ceramics. Specimen without glass frit showed drastic change in color, while specimen with 20wt% glass frit revealed a limited change in color. This means that the addition of glass frit suppresses the coloring of zirconia based ceramics. The effect of sintering temperature on coloring revealed little change in color.

Low Temperature Sintering and Microwave Dielectric Properties of Ba5Nb4O15 Ceramics (Ba5Nb4O15 세라믹스의 저온소결 및 마이크로파 유전특성)

  • Microwave dielectric properties and the microstructure of $Ba_5Nb_4O_{15}$ ceramics with $PbO-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass frit were investigated to reduce the sintering temperature of $Ba_5Nb_4O_{15}$ ceramics as a function of the amount of glass frit from $0.5wt\%$ to $10wt\%$ and the sintering condition. The sintered density and the microwave dielectric properties of $Ba_5Nb_4O_{15}$ ceramics were remarkably changed with the amount of glass fit which existed as a liquid phase and assisted the densification. $Ba_5Nb_4O_{15}$ with $3wt\%$ $PbO-B_2O_3-SiO_2$ glass frit sintered at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h showed dielectric constant (K) of 41.4, a quality factor (Q $\times$f) of 13,485 GHz, and a Temperature Coefficient of resonant Frequency (TCF) of 9 ppm/$^{\circ}C$. Due to no trace of physical and chemical reaction between this composition and Ag electrode cofired at $900^{\circ}C$ for 2 h, this ceramics can be a good candidate for the multilayer dielectric filter.
