Many of researches regarding mechanical properties of composite materials are associated with humid environment and temperature. Especially the temperature is a very important factor influencing the design of thermoplastic composites. However, the effect of temperature on impact behavior of reinforced composites have not yet been fully explored. An approach which predicts critical fracture toughness G$_{IC}$ was performed by the impact test in this work. The main goal of this work is to study the effect of temperature and span of specimen supports on the results of Charpy impact test for GF/PE composite. The critical fracture energy and failure mechanism of GF/PE composites were investigated in the temperature range of $60^{\circ}C;to;-50^{\circ}C$ by the Charpy impact test. The critical fracture energy showed the maximum at the ambient temperature, and it tended to decrease as the temperature increased or decreased from the ambient temperature. The major failure mechanisms are the fiber matrix debonding, the fiber pull-out and/or delamination and the matrix deformation.n.
Molecular dynamics simulations of nanoimprint lithography NIL) are performed in order to investigate effects of process parameters, such as stamp shape, imprinting temperature and adhesive energy, on nanoimprint lithography process and pattern transfer. The simulation model consists of an amorphous $SiO_{2}$ stamp with line pattern, an amorphous poly-(methylmethacrylate) (PMMA) film and an Si substrate under periodic boundary condition in horizontal direction to represent a real NIL process imprinting long line patterns. The pattern transfer behavior and its related phenomena are investigated by analyzing polymer deformation characteristics, stress distribution and imprinting force. In addition, their dependency on the process parameters are also discussed by varying stamp pattern shapes, adhesive energy between stamp and polymer film, and imprinting temperature. Simulation results indicate that triangular pattern has advantages of low imprinting force, small elastic recovery after separation, and low pattern failure. Adhesive energy between surface is found to be critical to successful pattern transfer without pattern failure. Finally, high imprinting temperature above glass transition temperature reduces the imprinting force.
Synthesis of poly[N-(formyloxyphenyl)maleimide](PFOMI) as photopolymer were investigated with various kinds of photosensitive groups. Generally, photopolyimide have some deficiencies in solubility, sensitivity, reserve stability of the photosensitive solution, and the precision of image pattern. The study has been required on those polymers which have high glass transition temperature and photo efficiency, and low dielectricity. The existing condensation resins require high curing temperature and perfect elimination of subreacted materials that are produced during the process after irradiation and various membrane damages such as the deformation and contraction in image pattern cure. In this study poly[N-(hydroxyphenyl)maleimide](PHPMI) was synthesized. The PHPMI were analyzed by H-NMR and FT-IR. The measured number average molecular weight of PHPMI was produced was $1.06{\times}10^4$. Poly[N-(formyloxyphenyl)maleimide](PFOMI) as a type of photo-Fries rearrangement was synthesized by NHPMI and formic acid followed by radical polymerization. PFOMI was analyzed by FT-IR, and photocharacteristics was investgated by UV spectra and FT-IR before and after UV irradiation. Based on the image characteristics of PFOMI measured from optical micrographs, it was formed that the resolution of positive type PFOMI was $0.5{\mu}m$.

Tension mask is a part of CRT type devices, which is installed right behind glass-made front panel. Numerous slits on the thin metal sheet enable the electron beams emitted from posterior gun to be focused, resulting in enhanced definition. Flattened and enlarged displays necessitate the imposition of pretension on the masks, in order to improve the robustness of display quality against vibration or impact. High temperature assembly process subsequent to pretensioning, however, degenerates creep resistance of mask material, and common mask may become susceptible to undesirable elongation due to creep. Once tensile stress becomes high enough to induce creep deformation, pretension is substantially loosened. In this study, tension mask assembly is modeled as a combined structure of beams and wire array, and a numerical simulation is attempted for pretensioning followed by high temperature process. Based on a model study, creep occurrence is found to be probable and its adverse influence is quantified. As fur maintaining high tensile force, simply increasing pretension does not seem to be helpful. Instead, the structure of frame needs to be modified somehow, or material for mask needs to be selected properly.
The effect of counterpart roughness on abrasive wear characteristics of side plate materials of FRP ship, which were composed of glass fiber and unsaturated polyester resin composites, were investigated at ambient temperature by pin-an-disc friction test. The friction coefficient, wear rate and cumulative wear volume of these materials against SiC abrasive paper were determined experimentally. The wear rate of these materials decreased rapidly with sliding distance and then maintained a constant value. It was increased as counterpart roughness was rougher in a wear test. The cumulative wear volume tended to increase nonlinearly with sliding distance and depended on applied load and sliding speed for these composites. It could be verified by SEM photograph of fracture surface that major failure mechanisms were overlapping layers, microcutting, deformation of resin, delamination, and cracking.

This paper presents a proposed method for producing reinforced composite concrete columns reinforced with various types of metallic and non metallic mesh reinforcement. The experimental program includes casting and testing of twelve square columns having the dimensions of $100mm{\times}100mm{\times}1000mm$ under concentric compression loadings. The test samples comprise all designation specimens to make comparative study between conventionally reinforced concrete column and concrete columns reinforced with welded steel mesh, expanded steel mesh, fiber glass mesh and tensar mesh. The main variables are the type of innovative reinforcing materials, metallic or non metallic, the number of layers and volume fraction of reinforcement. The main objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of employing the new innovative materials in reinforcing the composite concrete columns. The results of an experimental investigation to examine the effectiveness of these produced columns are reported and discussed including strength, deformation, cracking, and ductility properties. Non-linear finite element analysis; (NLFEA) was carried out to simulate the behavior of the reinforced concrete composite columns. The numerical model could agree the behavior level of the test results. ANSYS-10.0 Software. Also, parametric study is presented to look at the variables that can mainly affect the mechanical behaviors of the model such as the change of column dimensions. The results proved that new reinforced concrete columns can be developed with high strength, crack resistance, and high ductility properties using the innovative composite materials.
A smart glass fiber reinforced polymer (SMFRP) reinforcing bar with a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) sensor was fabricated using a pultrusion technique, while ribs were formed to improve bonding between concrete and SMFRP. Then, strain of SMFRP bars were measured for a uniaxial tension test of an SMFRP bar, and a four-point bending test of concrete beams reinforced with SMFRP bars. The results of a uniaxial tension test illustrate that the strain obtained from an FBG sensor agrees well with that obtained from electrical resistance strain gauge (ERSG). Additionally, concrete beams reinforced with SMFRP bars were fabricated, and actual flexural test were performed while the strain of with an FBG sensor was compared with that of ERSG. The experimental results demonstrate that SMFRP bars can be used as reinforcement of concrete member while providing deformation information. Furthermore, SMFRP bars may provide stronger durability and smart monitoring to reinforced concrete members under corrosive environments during a service life.

In this paper, nanocrystallization of CuNiTiZr bulk metallic glass (BMG) subjecting to a kinetic spraying, dependent on impact velocity, was investigated by numerical and experimental approaches. The crystallization fraction and nucleation activation energy of initial feedstock and as-deposited coating were estimated by DSC and Kissinger method, respectively. The results of numerical modeling and experiment showed that the crystalline fraction and nucleation activation energy in BMG coatings were depended on kinetic energy of incident particle. Upon impact, the conversion of particle kinetic energy leads to not only decreasing free energy barrier but also increasing the driving force for an amorphous to crystalline phase transformation. The nanocrystallization of BMGs is associated with the strain energy delivered by a plastic deformation with a high strain rate.

The main objectives of this paper are to demonstrate the feasibility of using newly developed smart GFRP reinforcements to effectively monitor reinforced concrete beams subjected to flexural and creep loads, and to develop non-linear numerical models to predict the behavior of these beams. The smart glass fiber-reinforced polymer (GFRP) rebars are fabricated using a modified pultrusion process, which allows the simultaneous embeddement of Fabry-Perot fiber-optic sensors within them. Two beams are subjected to static and repeated loads (until failure), and a third one is under long-term investigation for assessment of its creep behavior. The accuracy and reliability of the strain readings from the embedded sensors are verified by comparison with corresponding readings from surface attached electrical strain gages. Nonlinear finite element modeling of the smart concrete beams is subsequently performed. These models are shown to be effective in predicting various parameters of interest such as crack patterns, failure loads, strains and stresses. The strain values computed by these numerical models agree well with corresponding readings from the embedded fiber-optic sensors.

The blades of flexible propellers are formed by overlaying and adhering many layers of thin glass-fiber fabric sheets, are compressed and dried in the rigid mold. The current manufacturing process can not avoid the rather irregular deformation of the blades composed of non-isotropic non-uniform fabric structures, and inevitably introduces the different shape-forming errors between blades. In this paper, several flexible model propellers are precisely measured with three-dimensional optical instrument and compared with the original design geometry. The model propellers with the as-measured geometry are evaluated with the lifting-surface-theory-based propeller analysis code. The open-water performance are presented and discussed. The importance of the manufacturing accuracy is addressed to be able to apply the flexible propellers for propulsion of marine vehicles.
