창면의 상하부 휘도차에 따른 글레어 광원의 인식변화 (Perception of Glare Source According to the Luminance Difference on a Window Plane)

  • The existing discomfort glare models are based on research that was conducted exclusively with uniform luminance sources. It is impossible to apply the models to windows of non-uniform luminance. For evaluating discomfort glare from windows, the method selecting glare source on a window plane is necessary. This study was carried outto propose a practical method to choose glare source from anon-uniform window plane. In the experiment, the perception of glare source according to the luminance difference is examined using a simulated windowof non-uniform luminance. The surface of the window is divided into two or three parts, and different luminance is setting on each surface. The observers were asked to decide whether the lower part of the window can be perceived as a glare source or not. The result shows that the lower part is perceived as a glare source when the lower part has over 37% of the luminance of the upper part of the window divided into two parts, and when it has over 51% of the luminance of the upper part of the window divided into three parts. the results may be applicable to select the glare source in awindow.

대광원의 상하부 휘도차가 불쾌글레어 평가에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Luminance Difference on Discomfort Glare from a Large Glare Source with Non-uniform Luminance)

  • Discomfort glare from windows is an important issue in window and daylighting design. This study aims to investigate the effect of luminance difference between the lower and the upper part of a large glare source. Experiments were conducted using a luminous body divided into two parts, the upper part and the lower part. The degree of discomfort glare from the luminous body was examined. The result shows that the part with lower luminance is perceived as a glare source when the part has higher luminance then the background luminance. The degree of discomfort glare was estimated for the experimental conditions, and compared to the observations. The estimation was made using two methods: one summed the glare sensation for each section, and the other used the average luminance of the whole luminous body. The result of the comparison shows that the method using the average luminance has approximate values to the observations. Consequently, the use of the average luminance was proposed for evaluation of discomfort glare from non-uniform large glare sources.

  • 자연채광은 건물 재실자에게 시각적 편안함과 쾌적함을 제공하여 건강성을 향상시키며 조명 에너지를 절약할 수 있는 중요한 조명환경 요소이다. 자연광에 의해 발생되는 창면에서의 글레어는 장시간 노출될 시 시각의 저하, 시각적 불쾌감의 원인이 된다. 창면에 의한 불쾌글레어 평가시에는 창면에서 글레어 광원을 어떻게 선별할 것인가가 중요한 문제이다. 기존의 불쾌글레어 평가법을 적용하더라도 글레어 광원을 한정할 방법이 없다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 글레어 광원 선별방법을 모색하기 위하여 불균일한 대광원의 휘도차가 불쾌글레어감에 미치는 영향을 검토하였다. 이를 위하여 $120{\times}120[cm]$의 정사각형 모형창을 제작하였다. 실험변수는 균일과 불균일한 휘도분포의 광원의 휘도비와 광원크기로 선정하였다. 실험방법은 모형창을 3분할한 후, 각기 다른 휘도비를 설정하여, 1[m], 1.5[m], 3[m] 거리에서 불쾌글레어를 평가하도록 하였다. 실험 결과 두 개의 결론을 얻었다. 첫째, 광원의 평균휘도가 증가할수록 불쾌글레어 평가값이 증가하였으며, 둘째, 창면 상부의 천공 부분만을 글레어 광원으로 볼 수 없으며 하부면도 블쾌글레어 평가에 영향을 주는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 채광창으로부터의 불쾌글레어 평가 시 글레어 광원을 선택하는 기준으로 활용될 수 있을 것이다.

  • Daylighting is the controlled admission of natural light into a space, reducing electric lighting and saving energy. By providing a direct link to the dynamic and perpetually evolving patterns of outdoor illumination, daylighting helps create a visually stimulating and comfort environment for building occupants, while reducing energy costs. Especially, however, glare is the most important factor in daylighting, which is issued by incoming direct sunlight into windows. This study analyzed the discomfort glare on a daylighting window by using Image processing methodology and found a solution to problems with glare source of occupants. There are several ways to evaluate discomfort glare such as UGR (Unified Glare Rating) of CIE, DGI (Daylight Glare Index, Hopkinson, 1972) and VCP (Visual Comfort Probability) of IES. These are used to apply to the relatively little artificial light source and they cannot cover discomfort glare from a real daylighting window. In this regarding, this paper aimed to calculate DGI index of the real daylighting window in a experimental space by using image processing methodology. The variables and outcomes are luminance distribution of non-shading window, effect of venetian blind installed on the window and locations related to position index of DGI.

건축실내 인공조명의 불쾌글레어 평가를 위한 기초적 연구 (The Fundamental Research for Discomfort Glare Evaluation of Building Interior Artificial Illumination)

  • 건축 실내의 조명환경의 쾌적성을 평가하는 것은 주로 불쾌감을 유발하는 글레어의 정도를 인식하는 것이라 할 수 있다. 현재 국외에서 연구된 불쾌글레어를 평가하기 위한 실험식을 그대로 적용하기에는 글레어의 감각을 느끼는 정도가 인종에 따라 크게 다르게 나타나기 때문에 무리가 있다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 한국인의 시각적인 특성에 맞는 합리적인 불쾌글레어 평가를 위한 예측식을 작성하는 것을 최종목표로 하였으며 다음과 같이 4단계로 연구를 진행하였다. 첫째, 기존의 불쾌글레어 평가식에 대한 검토를 통해 실험변인들을 선정하였다. 둘째, 본 연구의 목적에 맞는 실험변인과 조건을 제어할 수 있는 실물대모형을 제작하였다. 셋째, 불쾌글레어 평가실험을 실시하였다. 최종적으로, 선행연구에서 서양인을 대상으로 제안된 UGR평가법과의 비교분석을 실시하였다. 연구의 결과를 요약하면, 1)불쾌글레어는 광원휘도, 배경휘도, 피험자와 시선의 위치 등에 크게 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 2)실내 불쾌글레어 평가에서 광원과 피험자간의 거리보다 시야내에 글레어 광원이 위치하는 지의 여부가 더 중대한 영향을 미쳤다. 3)대표적인 불쾌글레어 평가시스템인 UGR과 비교 분석한 결과 다소 차이가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이것은 한국인의 불쾌글레어감이 서양인과 차이가 있다는 것을 보여준다.

수직형 LED 조명의 색상 및 점멸에 따른 눈부심 주관평가 (Subjective Evaluation of Glare for Blinking and Colors of Vertical LED Lighting)

  • Currently, in South Korea, 'Light Pollution Prevention Act by Artificial Lighting' has been enforced. For advertising lighting, it is limited based on only the light-emitting luminance. Luminance is a concept related to the glare. Not only the luminance of the light source, but also glare is affected depending on some situations like blinking, luminance contrast, background illuminance. This study conducted glare subjective evaluation with brightness, color, and blinking by looking at the LED lighting box. The results showed that the glare indexes were higher about 2 times in a decrease of background illuminance from 100lx to 0lx. The glare index of R, G, B light was higher than that of white light. The average glare index of the blue light was higher about 8 times compared to 2,700K. And the blink rate had little effect on the glare, but it affected the irritation. Therefore, the glare effect of light color and blinking needs to be considered for the standard of luminous environment.

포지션 인덱스 작성을 위한 상·하부 시야의 불쾌글레어감 비교 (A Comparative Study on Discomfort Glare Sensation in Entire Visual Field for Position Index)

  • Discomfort glare is an important factor influencing appraisal for lighting environment. Unified Glare Rating (UGR) which has been proposed by CIE is one of the formula for evaluating discomfort glare. Position index is an important factor in the UGR formula. Position index was proposed by Guth in 1949. It has been used until present limiting upper visual field. Lower visual field has different sensation of brightness in comparing with upper visual field. Therefore, it is necessary to propose position index about lower visual field. The objective of this study is to investigate the brightness sensation in upper and lower visual field. First, the visual field was measured on the self-made Glare Tester. Second, luminance of the Borderline between Comfort and Discomfort (BCD) was measured on the glare Tester. Circular sources of brightness were located at various angular distances from the line of vision along five meridians, $0^{\circ}$, $45{\circ}$, $90{\circ}$, $-45{\circ}$, $-90{\circ}$. The size of the glare source is 0.0011sr. The luminance of the surrounding field, which extended over the entire visual field, was maintained $34ccd/m^2$. Ten subjects aged from 25 to 29 were participated in the experiment. The results show that the luminance of BCD on the line of vision is $4337cd/m^2$ and the glare sensation of the lower visual field is more sensitive than the upper visual field.

Efficiency of Photovoltaic Cell with Random Textured Anti Glare (RTAG) Glass

  • The surface treatment of cover glass for conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cell is important to reduce reflectivity and to increase the incident light. In this work, random textured anti glare (RTAG) glass was prepared by wet surface coating method. Optical properties due to the changes of surface morphology of RTAG glass were compared and conversion efficiency of photovoltaic cell was researched. Grain size and changes of surface morphologies formed with surface etching time greatly affected optical transmittance and transmission haze. Current density (Jsc) were high at the condition when surface morphologies reflection haze were low and transmission haze were high. Jsc was $40.0mA/cm^2$ at glancing angle of $90^{\circ}$. Incidence light source was strongly influenced by surface treatment of cover glass at high incidence angle but was hardly affected light source at the low angle of incidence.

User Experience를 고려한 자동차 전조등 설계 방안 (The Design Procedure of Automobile Headlamp Considering User Experience)

  • The aim of study is to suggest the design procedure of automobile headlamp by considering driver's experience in regard of the visibility and glare during nighttime driving. The characteristics of driver were investigated in terms of the drivers' cognitive ability and reaction time, headlamp specification and visibility, light source and glare. And, the degree of visual discomfort was categorized and recognized as a tool to represent the subjective user experience. The UX point of view was stated when the existing results were seemingly lacking of it. The visual comfort and safety of elderly drivers were also discussed by reviewing the studies of ageing regarding the visibility and driving responses. Finally, this study suggested how to reduce the negative effect of nighttime driving due to the height of headlamp, angle of lighting, color spectrum, discomfort glare, source of light by using the UX perspective and methodology.

눈부심 저감을 고려한 LED광원 계류장 조명탑 설계에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Design of a Floodlighting Tower with LED Source of Light Considering the Reduction of a Glare)

  • The floodlighting assists the pilot in taxiing the aircraft into and out of the final parking position and provide lighting suitable for passenger to embark and debark and for personnel to load and unload cargo. It is composed of sodium lamps which is consuming high energy. It needs to develop a dedicated LED lamp to replace the existing lamps. In this paper, We propose a suitable asymmetric angle of LED lamps to avoid a pilot's glare and to meet the standard illumination. For this, we analyze asymmetric angle of sodium lamps which are using in airport and confirm whether the illumination distribution and glare index meet the relating standards by using simulation method. Also, we study the needs of asymmetric characteristics of LED ramp by simulating the LED lamps with and without asymmetric characteristics of ramp respectively. With the simulation result, finally we propose the best asymmetric angle of LED lamp to meet the average illumination standard, and avoid a pilot's glare.
