  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the standard weight and the perception of the figure, making girls' high school students the object of scientific study. Furthemore this study will try to find the factor having an effect on the weight through measuring the concern with appearance and health. The study consisted of 658 girls' high school students in Seoul. The data was analyzed by the methods of frequency, percentage, reliability, pearson's correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis. The results of this study are as follows : 1. The standard size of girls height was 160.95cm, their weight was 52.06kg. 2. 34 percent of the girls tested perceived of themselves of having proper figures. Especially in the case of overweight girls. Only 9.7 percent of girls were satisfied with their figure, the other 83.3 percent were not. 3. 88.4 percent of the girls were concerned with their weight. It was through mass communecation that girls were concerned with wheir weight. 41.2 percent of the girls were concerned with weight much more through mass communication than through any other things. This showed that the effect of mass communication on juveniles was increased. 4. The result of correlation of variable about the concern with appearance(p<0.001), the perception of their figures(p<0.001), the existence of weight controller in friends (p<0.001) and the concern with health(p<0.001) indicated significant positive correlation, on the other hand, the satisfaction of their figures(p<0.001) indicated negative correlation. This showed that the less satisfactory their figures were, the higher their concern about weight was. 5. In order th seize the variable having an effect on the concern with weight, the result of multiple regression analysis was that the concern with appearance (p<0.001), the satisfaction of figure (p<0.001), the concern with health (p<0.05), poket money (p<0.05) and health condition (p<0.05) had a statistically significant effect and the variables also 35.7% out of this model. Concern with appearance had the most important effect of all these variables.

  • The purpose of this study is to develop a basic sloper for pants that would be appropriate for young Korean school girls between the ages of 6 to 11 years old. Pants available in the apparel market for children do not properly correspond to the body size of the target consumer group. This research explores the characteristics of the body size of the group and also identifies problems of the conventional pants sloper that would be generally used for the production of children's apparel. Ultimately it presents a basic sloper for a possible use for manufacturing. The basic slopers for pants were collected from three different companies and were the examples used for this study. An experimental pants sloper was developed, reflecting the average body size of a nine year-old girl, which Is thought to be the master size for grading in children's wear Four different cotton prototype pants were made based on the three companies' slopers and the experimental one for evaluation of the fit and overall shape of the pants on subjects. The results revealed that the design, fit, and overall look of the experimental pants was superior to that of the opposing companies' product. After alteration of the experimental sloper, a basic pants sloper was finalized. The finalized pants sloper was determined at W/4+1cm for the front waist and W/4+2cm for the back, H/4+0.5cm for the front hip and H/4+1.5cm for the bark hip, and 73cm for its length with 15.5cm and 18cm for its front and back pants width at the bottom, respectively.

  • This study is aimed to research the actual wearing condition of ballet dancewear of girls aged between 2 and 6 years on its design, size and fit. Survey data were collected from 171 mothers who have a girl learning ballet dance. The questionnaire was composed with ballet education, ballet dancewear purchasing, preference on design, size selection, and fitting. The collected data were analyzed with frequencies statistics, ${\chi}^2$-test, ANOVA using the SPSS WIN 20.0. The results are as follows; High rate of respondents said that the purpose of ballet education was for good body balance, leisure activity, and height growth. The main method of purchase was online shopping. The design, price, size and fit were identified as important ballet dancewear attributes for girls. The most preferred style of ballet dancewear were 'short sleeve skirted leotard' and 'camisole skirted leotard' which look like dress. The respondents reported slight satisfaction with size and fit, price, convenience in action, sewing and durability. The most preferred sizing system was code by height but any ballet dancewear makers don't use code by height. Therefore it is difficult for consumers to select size. Retailers and manufacturers could potentially use the results of this study to improve the sizing system and fit for children's ballet dancewear.

  • The purpose of this study is to evaluate a sizing system of ready-to-wear clothes for middle-school girls. Results of the study are as follows. 1. Results of the survey revealed most middle-school girls preferred garments for women like unisex-casual and young-casual, and prioritized overall style and design over sizing issues. However, when they purchased clothes, they were dissatisfied with the poor fit of ready-to-wear clothing, which is a little too big for average middle-school girls. 2. There is a difference between a brand's target age and its average consumer age. $96.7\%$, of respondents purchased clothes from unisex-casual and young-casual brands, which sizes did not fit for them. Most of these brands had female adults ages 18 to 24 as their targets, whose somatotypes do not correspond with those of girls 12 to 15 years old. 3. Body measurements of those in age groups from 12 to 15 and from 10 to 24 were analyzed to identify physical differences between middle-school girls and female adults, which confirmed the relevance of different sizing systems for each age group. As a result, it is undesirable that middle school girls' clothes are designed in accordance with sizing system for female adults' garments. 4. Using the two-wav distribution of middle school girls' stature-bust circumference for upper garments, and stature-waist circumference for lower garments, this study establishes a sizing system in sections of high frequency. The size intervals of stature and circumference were 5cm and 3cm respectively.

  • This study was conducted to investigate adolescents' body size and their concerns and perceptions about body image. Group means of heights and weights were 171.5cm and 60.3kg for boys and 159.3cm and 52.3Kg for girls. Body Mass Index(BMI) of the subjects were 20.5 for boys and 20.6 for girls. Only 11.5$\%$ of subjects were overweight or obese, however 42.5% of subjects had experienced weight control, and the main reason for weight control was to lose weight(80.6$\%$). In concern for body image and frequency of eating distrubance ; females had more concern than males, the group who had attempted weight control had more concern than those who had not, and the group who were overweight had more concern than those who were under and normal weight. In perception about body image, using a set of nine figure drawings arranged from very thin to very heavy figures, subjects rated their current figure, considered figure(how they appeared to others), ideal figure, and attractive figure. For boys, the current, ideal, and most attractive figures were almost identical, but for girls, the ideal figure was significantly thinner than current figure and attractive figure was significantly thinner than current figure. The greater the preference for thinner figure as idal and attractive figure, the higher the concern for body image and frequency of eating distrubance. Thus it seems that a distorted perception of ideal body size affects adolescents' concern for body image and eating behaviors.

  • This is a tentative study to provide prototype of sizing system for children's shoes. For this study, 364 elementary school girls from KyungIn and YeongNam areas were participated in the measurement. The results of the analysis on four measurement items related to foot can be summarized as followings: 1. All of the foot related items were increased according to their growth. Especially, foot length, foot width, and toe width showed a high correlation. 2. The result also revealed that the current sizing system can cover only 70.9% of children in measurement, which means that a new sizing system is required. 3. We suggested a new standard size for foot size/foot circumference based on the results above according to current sizing system, and a new standard size for foot circumference/foot width based on ISO standard. The results of this study would be helpful in the design of sizing system of children's shoe if applied with the raw data of the Size Korea recently measured.

  • In the present study, crown diameters and their sexual differences in deciduous teeth were investigated in children of Chon-ju city, Korea. Plaster casts of the deciduous dentitions obtained from 50 boys and 50 girls were examined. Mesiodistal and buccolingual crown diameters were measured using a digital caliper(0.01mm) according to the definitions of Seipel and Moorees et al. These measurements were performed three times, and intra-observer measurement errors were calculated by the single determination method. The crown index, module and area were calculated in order to provide a comparison of crown proportions. The results obtained were summarized as follows; 1. The mean values of intra-observer measurement errors were 0.255mm and are unlikely to have influenced the statistical analysis. 2. The mean values of mesiodistal and buccolingual crown diameters examined were larger in boys than girls. 3. The mean coefficient of variation was 5.6 in the deciduous dentition. There were a trend for the primary second molar to be the least variable in size of all teeth both in boys and girls. 4. Fluctuating asymmetry is the difference between left and right antimeres in individuals. Primary second molars were less asymmetrical than primary first molars in both dimensions. 5. In maxillary teeth, Crown index is larger in boys than in girls. In contrast, in mandibular teeth, except primary canine, it is larger in girls than in boys. Crown module is larger in boys than in girls and increased progressively from primary first incisor to primary second molar. Crown area is consistently larger in boys than in girls. The minimum crown area is mandibular primary incisor and maximum crown area is maxillary primary second molar.

  • In order to analyze the human figure drawings of children with emotional and behavioural problems, the Preschool Behaviour Checklist (McGuire & Richman, 1988) was administered to 300 6-year-old children from which 15 boys and 15 girls with emotional and behavioural problems and 15 boys and 15 girls without problems were selected for the target and comparison groups, respectively. Compared with children without emotional and behavioural problems, the human figure drawings of the disturbed children included immature eye drawings; immature liaison of body and arms or legs; no hair; strong and repeated lines; unbalanced arms and legs; unbalanced size of face, body, arms, and legs; and the size of the human figure less than a fifth of the sheet of paper. These results imply that the human figure drawing test is an efficient way to screen children's emotional and behavioural problems.
