Prevalence Study on the Canine Filariasis in Korea (국내 개 사상충증 발생율에 관한 조사 연구)

  • Prevalence of microfilariae, Dirofilaria immitis, Dirofilaria repens, Acanthocheilonema dracunculoides from 506 German Shepherd dogs reared in Korea was investigated by modified Knott's test to detect circulating microfilaria and by acid-phosphatase staining for differentiation of each microfilaria species. In the modified Knott's test, 74 of 506 dogs (14.6%) were microfilaria positive, and the prevelance of each species of microfilaria was 90.5% (67 of 74 samples) for D. immitis, 5.4% (4 of 74 samples) for duplicate infection with D. immitis and D. repens and 4.1% (3 of 74 samples) for mixed infection with D. immitis, D. repens and A. dracunculoides. It was considered that the paying attention to the existence not only D. immitis but also other microfilariae were needed in canine filariasis.

MONTE CARLO ANALYSIS FOR FIRST ACQUISITION AND TRACKING OF THE KOMPSAT SPACECRAFT

  • Monte Carlo analysis is performed for the first acquisition and tracking of the KOMP-SAT spacecrat in GSOC tracking station after separation from Taurus launch vehicle. The error bounds in position and velocity vector in Earth-fixed coordinate system at injection point are assumed based on the previous launch mission. Ten thousands injection orbital elements with normal distribution are generated and propagated for Monte Carlo analysis. The tracking antenna pointing errors at spacecraft rising time and closest approach time at German Space Operations Center(GSOC) Weiheim track-ing station are derived. Then the tracking antenna scanning angles are analyzed for acquisition and tracking of the KOMPSAT signal.

Effect of Korean Analysis Tool (UTagger) on Korean-Vietnamese Machine Translations (한-베 기계번역에서 한국어 분석기 (UTagger)의 영향)

  • With the advent of robust deep learning method, Neural machine translation has recently become a dominant paradigm and achieved adequate results in translation between popular languages such as English, German, and Spanish. However, its results in under-resourced languages Korean and Vietnamese are still limited. This paper reports an attempt at constructing a bidirectional Korean-Vietnamese Neural machine translation system with the supporting of Korean analysis tool - UTagger, which includes morphological analyzing, POS tagging, and WSD. Experiment results demonstrate that UTagger can significantly improve translation quality of Korean-Vietnamese NMT system in both translation direction. Particularly, it improves approximately 15 BLEU scores for the translation from Korean to Vietnamese direction and 3.12 BLEU scores for the reverse direction.

Robust Target Model Update for Mean-shift Tracking with Background Weighted Histogram

  • This paper presents a target model update scheme for the mean-shift tracking with background weighted histogram. In the scheme, the target candidate histogram is corrected by considering the back-projection weight of each pixel in the kernel after the best target candidate in the current frame image is chosen. In each frame, the target model is updated by the weighted average of the current target model and the corrected target candidate. We compared our target model update scheme with the previous ones by applying several test sequences. The experimental results showed that the object tracking accuracy was greatly improved by using the proposed scheme.

  • A 6-year-old male German Shepherd was admitted to the Armed Forces Second Animal Clinic for clinical examination The symptoms were anorexia, dyspnea, emaciation and ascites. Treatment was given for a month but its condition did not improve, euthanasia was therefore performed and the dog was submitted for necropsy. A tumor was found at the base of the heart between the ascending aorta and the pulmonary artery It was diagnosed an aortic body tumor by clinical signs, gross lesions and histopathologic features.

  • The survey was carried out to investigate the average number of days from parturition to conception to 349 calving cases out of Holstein cows in total 154 heads observed. The results were as follows: 1. The average number of days from parturition to conception was $97.41{\pm}8.22$ and it's similar during the period from primipara to 4th calving order, and irregular during on and after 5th. 2. The average number of days from parturition to conception in calving month was observed all through the year: the prolongation among on April and July, and the brief duration among on January and March. 3. In the cases under 50 and 150 days after delivery, the distribution showed 53.56% and 83.91%, respectively, and it's about 20% between 70 and 90 days after delivery.

Jungian Character Network in Growing Other Character Archetypes in Films

  • This research demonstrates a clear visual outline of character influence-relations in creating Jungian character archetypes in films using R computational technology. It contributes to the integration of Jungian analytical psychology into film studies by revealing character network relations in film. This paper handles character archetypes and their influence on developing other character archetypes in films in regards to network analysis drawn from Lynn Schmidt's analysis of 45 master characters in films. Additionally, this paper conducts a character network analysis visualization experiment using R open-source software to create an easily reproducible tutorial for scholars in humanities. This research is a pioneering work that could trigger the academic communities in humanities to actively adopt data science in their research and education.

  • 전자책을 이용한 독서가 확산되면서, 책에 대한 소감도 온라인으로 공유하고 싶어하는 독자들의 욕구가 생겨나고 있다. 따라서, 본 논문은 전자책 독자들이 책을 소비함과 동시에 다른 독자들과 소통하는 창구를 마련하고자 한다. 이러한 온라인 독서 플랫폼을 통해 사용자들의 독서 경험이 확장될 것을 기대한다. 또한, 사용자들의 소감 데이터를 기반으로 인공 지능 분석한 결과를 제공한다. 이를 통해, 다른 사용자들이 책에 대해 느낀 전반적인 인상을 알 수 있으며 기존 전자책과 차별화된 서비스라는 점에서 의의가 있다.

Mesenteric torsion in a Miniature Schnauzer (Miniature Schnauzer에서 발생한 장간막 염전 1증례)

  • Mesenteric torsion was diagnosed in a 2-year-old, spayed female Miniature Schnauzer. The patient was presented with acute depression, vomiting, lethargy and hematochezia. On physical examination, severe dehydration, tachycardia, tachypnea, weak femoral pulse, delayed capillary refill time and pale mucous membrane were found and the dog was in shock. Radiography and ultrasonography revealed intestines distended with gas, ascites and the "C" shaped distended intestine. Medical treatments including fluid therapy, analgesics, antibiotics and lidocaine for reducing reperfusion injury were applied. And then, the mesenteric torsion was definitively diagnosed through exploratory laparotomy and intestinal resection and anastomosis were performed. The dog made an uneventful recovery and was free of clinical sign one week after surgery. Mesenteric torsion is an unusual and life-threatening disease in dogs. It has usually been described in the middle and large breed dogs, especially German Shepherds. However, the mesenteric torsion should be included in the differential diagnostic lists for acute abdomen even in small breed dog. The mortality rate of mesenteric torsion can be reduced through prompt diagnosis, proper preventive therapy for shock and reperfusion injury and emergency surgery.

The Changes of Plantar Foot Pressure by External Loads during Walking in Flatfoot (보행 시 편평족에서 외적 무게 부하에 따른 족저압의 변화)

  • Purpose : The study was designed to investigate the changes of plantar foot pressure by different loads during walking in flatfoot. Methods : Fifteen subjects with flatfoot were recruited along with their written informed consent. They were asked to walk on plate at a self-selected and comfortable speed with loads of 0, 5, 10, and 15kg. Three walking trials were obtained and then averaged for data analysis. Foot pressure were measured from RS-Scan system (RS-Scan system, RS scan Ltd., German) and contact area, maximum force were analyzed. Results : There were significant increases on midfoot and decreases on forefoot in contact area. And there were significant increases in maximum force of foot pressure of 2nd metatarsal bone and midfoot. Conclusion : These findings revealed that flatfoot increases risk factors of metatarsal bone with different loads. Therefore, patients of flatfoot must be careful during walking with loads or activities of daily living.
