  • We study the incomprssible Navier Stokes equations for the flow inside contraction geometry. The governing equations are expressed in the vorticity-stream function formulations. A rectangular computational domain is arised by elliptic grid generation technique. The numerical solution is based on a technique of automatic numerical generation of acurvilinear coordinate system by transforming the governing equation into computational plane. The transformed equations are approximated using central differences and solved simultaneously by successive over relaxation iteration. The time dependent of the vorticity equation solved by using explicit marching procedure. We will apply the technique on several irregular-shapes.

  • Ignition of a reactive solid in a shape of square corner by a hot surface is studied theoretically. Ignition time and the location of ignition point are determined as a function of dimensionless parameters, with the use of the homogeneous model of ignition. The effect of geometry on the ignition of solid fuel results in the local characteristics: the reaction is initiated in a hot point in depth of the substance. It is shown that ignition time is proportional to the dimensionless initial temperature, whereas for the ignition of the semiinfinite body this dependence was quadratic.

  • A method to derive the constitutive relations of a piezoelectric bender actuator is developed here. The constitutive relations are derived from the geometry, material properties of the actuator. The very complicated constitutive relations can be easily calculated by use of symbolic function in Mathematica. The developed program can calculate the constitutive relations for the unimorph bender made by attaching a short piezoelectric beam on a longer metal beam. The program can also calculate the constitutive relations of a piezoelectric bender with spring at its end.

  • The relation between light sources and screen cells is considered part of the theoretical model of an autostereoscopic 3D display. The geometry of the image and observer regions is presented, including the cases of single and multiple regions. The characteristic function is introduced. Formulas for the geometric parameters are obtained, including areas and angles. Special attention is drawn to the screen location. The method of transforming the formulas between regions is stated. For multiple regions, geometric dissimilarity was found. This allows the model to be applied in finding the geometric characteristics of multiview and integral-imaging 3D displays.

  • The isoparametric spline finite strip method for degenerated shells is presented. In the formulation, both the geometry and the displacement field are represented by uniform cubic B-spline curves. Spline shell strip is degenerated stress-resultant shell with 6 dof at each node;and the penalty function method is used to incorporated the six dof,

  • The analytical expression for quality function is found including the dependence on disparity. The problem is considered in the projective coordinates for which the forward and backward transformation matrices are found. The formation of side observer regions is considered. The probability of the pseudo stereo effect is also estimated. Testing patterns are improved in order to provide higher accuracy of measurements. This is confirmed in experiments.

  • In this paper, we developed and presented a design result for optimizing the geometry of Ag circular SPP waveguide for subwavelength waveguide applications. We investigated the effect of the design parameters on the light propagation and find the optimum design for small modal size, high coupling coefficient, and low sensitivity. The results show that the globally optimal design locates optimal waveguide geometries more efficiently than individual optimal points for multivalued objective function.

  • The aim of this paper is to characterize K-contact and Sasakian manifolds whose metrics are generalized quasi-Einstein metric. It is proven that if the metric of a K-contact manifold is generalized quasi-Einstein metric, then the manifold is of constant scalar curvature and in the case of a Sasakian manifold the metric becomes Einstein under certain restriction on the potential function. Several corollaries have been provided. Finally, we consider Sasakian 3-manifold whose metric is generalized quasi-Einstein metric.

  • This study reviews the influence function method(IFM) for calculating stress intensity factors (SIFs, K) and modifies it to apply for the estimating the residual fatigue life for the cracked components under complex stress fields. An IFM has been developed to analyze SIFs for surface cracks which are subjectedto nonuniformly distributed stresses. Through elastic superposition, the influence function method properly accounts for redistribution of stress as the crack grows through the component. This influence function is unique to the given geometry and independent of the loading. Some examples have been provided to show the effectiveness of the IFM including the distributions of K in a residual stress field. The significant effect of residual stress upon fatigue crack growth in a welded component has been demonstrated with the IFM.
