  • Rogowski coil is made having no ferromagnetic material in a core. So the coil cannot be driven into saturation. This result in that Rogowski coils may be calibrated at relatively low currents. and used with confidence at very high currents. However the lowest level of current that can be measured is limited by the sensitivity of the voltage measuring instrument and system noise. Therefore. geometrical effects were investigated in order to measure high sensitivity of low level current and the significant source of error was examined as well. In the results, the source of error was associated with coil designs. i.e. shape and uniformity of coil and a geometrical location of current source inside and outside of the Rogowski coil.

  • As tools for machining precesion componants, end mills and ball end mill are widely used. For the end mill have longer cylindrical shape comparing diameter, they are liable to deflect when machining and induce geometrical error and deterioration of surface roughness. To improve the stiffness and the sharpness of the cutting edge of end mill, a software for manufaturing end mills are developed. The progeam predicts the result of helical flute grinding and the configuration of cutting edge which is located in cylindrical surface. Furthermore to facilitate the manufacturing end mill using CNC grinding machine, the setting conditions which satisfy the geometrical requirments like tool rake angle and stiffness are obtained.

  • In this study, the geometric model of 11 factorization formulas presented in the 2015 revised national curriculum was constructed and the necessary mathematical conditions were derived in the process. As a result of the study, all of the 11 factorization formulas are geometrically modeled and 12 conditions are derived in the process. However, the basic method of directly cutting and attaching a given shape was limited to not being able to make a rectangle or rectangular parallelepiped. Therefore, the problem was solved by changing the perspective and focusing on whether rectangle or rectangular parallelepiped with the same area or volume could be constructed.

  • Forming sheet metal by laser-induced thermal stresses (laser forming) has been extensively studied, and the research has focused on two-dimensional geometries using a multi-pass straight line scan. Recently there came out some useful studies or three-dimensional laser forming which is applied to doubly curved shapes. The task of 3D laser forming sheet metal is to determine a set of process parameters such as laser scanning paths, laser power and scanning speed that will make a given shape. New method for laser forming of a doubly curved surface by using geometrical information was proposed and verified by experiments. This method shows good performance in the sense of calculation time and accuracy compared to the inherent strain method.

  • In the famous equivalent elasticity modulus method proposed by Ernst for the geometrical nonlinear analysis of stay cables, the cable shape was assumed as a parabolic curve, and only a part of the gravity load normal to the chord was taken into account with the other part of gravity load parallel to the chord being ignored. Using the actual catenary curve and considering the entire gravity load of stay cables, the present study has derived the equivalent stiffness method to analyze the sag effect of stay cables in cable-stayed bridges. The derived equivalent stiffness can be degenerated into Ernst's equivalent elasticity modulus method with some approximations. Therefore, the Ernst's method is a special and approximate formulation of the present method. The derived equivalent stiffness provides a theoretical explanation for the famous Ernst's formula.

  • This research is concerned with post-buckling investigation of nano-scaled beams constructed from porous functionally graded (FG) materials taking into account geometrical imperfection shape. Hence, two types of nanobeams which are perfect and imperfect have been studied. Porous FG materials are classified based on even or uneven porosity distributions. A higher order nonlinear refined beam theory is used in the present research. Both perfect and imperfect nanobeams are formulated based on this refined theory. A detailed study is provided to understand the effects of geometric imperfection, pore distribution, material distribution and small scale effects on buckling of FG nanobeams.

  • This paper aims to evaluate quantitatively the springback characteristics that evolve in the sheet metal forming of an S-rail in order to understand the reasons of shape inaccuracy and to find a remedy. The geometrical springback is classified into six modes: angle change of punch and die shoulders, wall curl, ridge curl, section twist, and axial twist. The measuring method for each springback mode is suggested and quantitative measurements were made to determine the tendency towards shape accuracy. Forming experiments were conducted with four types of steel sheets that have different tensile strengths, which were 340MPa, 440MPa, 590MPa and 780MPa, in order to evaluate the effect of the tensile strength and the bead shape on the springback behavior. Springback tendencies show that they are greatly affected by the tensile strength of the sheet and the shape of the tools. Almost all springback modes except the section twist and the axial twist show a linearly increasing trend as the tensile strength of the sheet increases. The results can be used as basic data for design and for compensation of the press die geometry when forming high strength steels which exhibit large amounts of springback.

  • Factors influencing shear behavior of granular material include particle size, shape, distribution, relative density, particle crushing, etc. In this study, these factors are characterized by viewpoint of shear behavior using numerical analysis based on DEM. Geometrical particle shape is represented by a combination of small circular particles and influence of particle shape on crushing is studied through relative comparisons between clump (uncrushable) and cluster (crushable) models which are modeled using DEM. Also, particle shape is quantified by the dimensionless parameters such as circularity and convexity. The results indicate that particle shape indexes have a negative association with internal friction angle. Also, internal friction angle becomes reduced and failure envelop curve becomes nonlinear due to the particle crushing. It is also found that numerical results are quite good agreement with the experimental test conducted in this study.
