As the LPM is used for position accuracy decision device it is required that both the reason of posion error and the definition of position itself should be cleared. In this study, the precision of the position decision of LPM is affected by the geometrical shape such as tooth shape or processing accuracy. By using the analysis of magnetic circuit, we calculated the permeance come up with the gap. Once the thrust force has been obtained, the permeance due to the mechanical error of the pole pitch and the tooth pitch becomes the error of thrust force. We confirmed as well that it is being affected by the difference due to the variation of the airgap permeance.
In many areas of industry, it is desirable to have fast and reliable systems in order to quickly obtain suitable solid models for computer- aided analyses. Nevertheless it is well known that the data exchange process between CAD modelers and CAE packages can require significative efforts. This paper presents an approach for geometrical data exchange through triangulated boundary models. The proposed framework is founded on the use of STL file specification as neutral format file. This work is principally focused on data exchange among CAD modelers and FEA packages via STL. The proposed approach involves the definition of a topological structure suitable for the STL representation and the development of algorithms for topology and geometry data processing in order to get a solid model suitable for finite element analysis or other computer aided engineering purposes. Different algorithms for model processing are considered and their pros and cons are discussed. As a case study, a prototype modeler which supports an exporting filter for a commercial CAE package has been implemented.
This paper discusses a mechanical model for the vulnerability assessment of old masonry building aggregates that takes into account the uncertainties inherent to the building parameters, to the seismic demand and to the model error. The structural capacity is represented as an analytical function of a selected number of geometrical and mechanical parameters. Applying a suitable procedure for the uncertainty propagation, the statistical moments of the capacity curve are obtained as a function of the statistical moments of the input parameters, showing the role of each one in the overall capacity definition. The seismic demand is represented by response spectra; vulnerability analysis is carried out with respect to a certain number of random limit states. Fragility curves are derived taking into account the uncertainties of each quantity involved.

This paper discusses the hull form generation from fuzzy model constructed with actual ship data using fuzzy concept. SAC, which is the most important factor in the hull form generation, is expressed by a fuzzy model describing the relationships among design parameters, which have a great influence on SAC, through model identification process with the actual ship data and design parameters. Then, we can infer the SAC of an aimed ship through the process of fuzzy inference and decide the offset of a front view by making the fuzzy model between SAC and offset as well. In conclusion, this paper makes a step forward from the geometrical definition, which has been used for hull form generation so far, to direct mathematical formulae about the relationship between design parameters and offset. So, if the design parameters are given, we can generate the hull form taking such properties into account.
A criterion and a method for solving a problem on the prevention of mine working fracture under the action of tectonic and gravitational forces are offered. Based on minimal criterion, theoretical analysis of the definition of the optimal shape of working in the rock mass weakened by arbitrarily located rectilinear cracks was carried out. A closed system of algebraic equations allowing to minimize the stress state and stress intensity factors depending on mechanical and geometrical characteristics of the rock, is constructed. The relation between the shape of the working and the stress intensity factors and also location and sizes of the cracks is obtained. The found optimal shape of working increases load-bearing capacity of the rock.
Defining and measuring non-rigid or flexible parts has been controversial in industry for many years. There are two primary areas of controversy. The first is agreeing on what exactly a non-rigid part is. The second is agreeing on how to define and measure a non-rigid part. The subject of non-rigid parts is further complicated by the brief coverage it receives in the national and international standards. This leaves each company to improvise or create its own rules for non-rigid parts. There are some who believe that Geometrical Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) should not be used on non-rigid parts. This is not true. The ASME Y14.5M standard applies to rigid parts as a default condition. However, there is no definition given for a rigid part. The term rigid part has been used in industry for so long that it has gained a definition by its general use. When most people in industry say rigid part, they are referring to a part doesn't move (deform or flex) when a force (including gravity) is applied. How much force is relative based on the part characteristics. In reality, all parts will deform (or flex) if enough force is applied. Using this logic, all parts would be considered non-rigid. However, we all know that this is not how parts are treated in industry. Although GD&T defaults to rigid parts, it should also be used on non-rigid parts with a few special techniques. Actually 50~60% of all products designed contain parts or features on parts that are non-rigid. Therefore, we try to suggest the definitions of rigid and non-rigid parts and method to measure non-rigid parts.
This paper presents an optimal design process using beads on a body panel to improve interior noise of a passenger vehicle. Except modification of structural members, it is difficult to find effective countermeasures that can work for the intermediate frequency range from 100 Hz to 300 Hz which lies between the booming and low medium frequency. In this study, it is a major goal to find additional counter-measures for this intermediate frequency range by performing optimal design of beads on body panels. The proposed method for design optimization consists of 4 sub-steps, that is, a) problem definition, b) cause analysis, c) countermeasure development and d) validation. The objective function is minimization of interior noise level. The major design variables are the geometrical shape of a bead and combination of beads on the critical panels. Sensitivity analysis and optimization are performed according to the predefined process for an optimal design. It is verified that the proposed design decreases the level of noise transfer function above 5 dB.
