밀링용 칩 브레이커 인서트의 절삭력 예측 (Prediction of Cutting Forces for the Chip Breaker Insert in Milling)

  • In this paper, the effects of chip breaker configuration on cutting forces for various cutting conditions are investigated and a method for predicting cutting forces effectively for chip breaker insert in milling is described. Based on the shear plane model and the relevant equations already existing for the relation among the parameters, the method makes use of the analytic geometric approach considering the configuration of cutting too by a 3-dimensional coordinate transformation matrix. The groove type chip breaker insert is modeled to be a double rake insert, represented by the first radial rake angle, the second radial rake angle and the length of land, and the program analyzing the cutting forces is developed. The program capability is verified by comparing the results with the experimental ones for a single cutter; and in case of primary cutting forces, the results of simulation and experiments agree very well showing 2%~16.7% difference within the feed rate range investigated.

Advanced aerostatic stability analysis of suspension bridges

  • Aerostatic instability of a suspension bridge may suddenly appears when the deformed shape of the structure produces an increase in the value of the three components of displacement-dependent wind loads distributed in the structure. This paper investigates the aerostatic stability of suspension bridges using an advanced nonlinear method based on the concept of limit point instability. Particular attention is devoted to aerostatic stability analysis of symmetrical suspension bridges. A long-span symmetrical suspension bridge (Hu Men Bridge) with a main span of 888 m is chosen for analysis. It is found that the initial configuration (symmetry or asymmetry) may affect the instability configuration of structure. A finite element software for the nonlinear aerostatic stability analysis of cable-supported bridges (NASAB) is presented and discussed. The aerostatic failure mechanism of suspension bridges is also explained by tracing aerostatic instability path.

Comparing geometric parameters of a hydrodynamic cavitation process treating pesticide effluent

  • Paper focuses on comparison between two different orifice plate configurations (plate number 1 and plate number 2) used as cavitating device in the hydrodynamic cavitation reactor for improving pollutant removal efficiencies. Effect of four different parameters such as hydraulic characteristics (in terms of range of flow rates, orifice velocities, cavitation number at different inlet pressures); cavitation number (in range of 5.76-0.35 for plate number 1 and 1.20-0.35 for plate number 2); inlet pressure (2-8 bars) and reaction time (0 to 60 min) in terms of chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal and chlorpyrifos degradation has been studied and compared. Optimum inlet pressure of 5 bars exists for degradation of pollutants for both the plates. It is found that geometry of orifice plate plays important role in removal efficiencies of pollutant. Results obtained confirmed that orifice plate 1 with configuration of 1.5 mm 17 holes; cavitational number of 1.54 performed better with around 60% COD and 98% chlorpyrifos removal as compared to orifice plate 2 having configuration of 2 mm single hole; cavitational number of 0.53 with 40% COD and 96% chlorpyrifos in 2 h duration time.

편집설계 기법을 이용한 압축기 설계 시스템 개발 (Development of a Compressor Design System Using Configuration Design Method)

  • In this research, we developed a design system for a compressor of an air conditioner using solid CAD system. The developed design system has some characteristics. First, the design system used a configuration design method, so a designer can design a compressor very quickly by using the constructed master libraries. Next, the system was developed to be used not only by engineers but also by salesmen. It is very easy for a user to use it, so a salesman can get a result very easily with the design system. And it has some design modules which give a considerable convenience to designers. Actually, designers are accustomed to the module based design. Then, it has calculation and analysis functions. Volume and mass of a part, and interference between parts are calculated by using the geometric calculation function of a solid CAD system. Also a packaging calculation was implemented to get the smallest space to package compressors for transportation and storing. An interface with a program to analyze the vibration of a compressor was developed in this design system. The design system is similar to CBD (Case-Based Design) system in the view of the whole design process.

균염을 가지는 최적스핀들 형상에 관한 수치해석적 연구 (A Computational Study for an Optimum Spindle Shape with Uniform Yarn Dyeing)

  • In the field of yarn dyeing, the most generally employed method is a type of package dyeing which uses a package cheesesstacked on a spindle made of a perforated tube. Spindles up to now, have been designed without considering the characteristics of dyeing liquid, focusing only on the geometric configuration which cause many problems such as lack of level dyeing. To improve the level dyeing and find the appropriate spindle configuration for the most effective dyeing process, this study examines the spindle flow-field in detail, using a computational method. Flow characteristics inside the spindle have been investigated with varying in porosity, porous diameter and the velocity of the flow. The results show that the total pressure of the flow through the spindle is used to overcome body force. The characteristics of the flow from the porous spindle could also be observed. Based on the results from this study, an effective spindle configuration for level-dyeing has been proposed.

  • An analytical solution method capable of determining the geometric configuration and developed tensile forces of mooring lines associated with fixed plate/pile or drag anchors is presented. The solution method, satisfying complete equilibrium conditions, is capable of analyzing multi-segmented mooring lines that can consist of either chains, cables, or wires embedded in layered seafloor soils. Centrifuge model tests and full -scale field tests were used to calibrate and validate the analytical solution.

  • A dynamic modeling, analysis, and optimum design issuess for the Hybrid type of robot are addressed. The dynamic modeling can be used to describe acceleration and velocity properties of the system explicitly in terms of the actuating forces is coded in C language based on the kinematic influence coefficients(KIC). By using this modeling simulation, the actuating forces needed for the robot follows the given trajectory are calculated. Also, for the design concept, the optimum geometric configuration of the system that minimizes the maximum actuating forces is found by using the optimization techique.

  • This study presents the structure and the gate control algorithm of KAMOBOT (KAIST Mobile Robot). The mobile robot has a six-legged, cylindrical configuration, each leg of which is equiped with a wheel at the bottom. The robot can go up and down stairs, go over obstacles, move along curvilinear paths and rotate around it's geometric center. Such maneuverability can be achieved by using only three electric motors.

  • The geometric configuration in the weight-reduced structure is very required to be started from the conceptual design with low cost, high performance and quality. In this point, a structural-topological shape concerned with conceptual design of structure is important. The method used in this paper combines three optimization techniques, where the shape and physical dimensions of the structure and material distribution are hierachically optimized, with the maximum rigidity of structure and lightweight.
