  • Electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) has been found to be suitable for the micro-hole machining of nonconductive materials such as ceramics or glass compared with existing conventional and also non-conventional machining methods. However this machining process has some problems such as low geometric accuracy and low machining efficiency due to the random spark generation at the end of the electrode. This paper proposes the methods to improve the geometric accuracy of micro-hole using powder mixed ECDM process. The experimental results show the effects of powder producing improved geometric accuracy of machined hole and decreased concentration of spark energy.

  • Finding the optimum route of ship's pipes is complicated and time-consuming process. Experience of designers is the main tool in this process. To reduce design man-hours and human errors a design expert system shell and a geometric modeler is used to automate the design process. In this paper, a framework of the intelligent CAD system for pipe auto-routing is suggested, which consists of general-purpose expert system shell and a geometric modeler. The design expert system and the geometric modeling kernel have been integrated. The CADDS5 of Computervision is used as the overall CAD environment. The Nexpert Object of Neuron Data is used as the expert system shell. The CADDS5 ISSM is used as the interface that creates and modifies geometric models of pipes. Existing algorithms for the routing problem have been analyzed. Most of them are to solve the 2-D circuit routing problems. Ship piping system, specially within the engine room, is a complicated, large scale 3-D routing problem. Methods of expert system have been used to find the route of ship pipes on the main deck.

  • Electrochemical discharge machining (ECDM) has been found to be potential fur the micro-machining of non-conductive materials such as ceramics or glass. However this machining process has its own inherent problem that the reproducibility is too low to get the available geometric accuracy fur micromachining applications. One main challenge in reaching this goal is the control of the hydrogen built around the tool-electrode in which happen the discharges. This paper proposes the methods to improve the geometric accuracy using powder-mixed ECDM process. The experimental results show the effects of powder producing improved geometric accuracy by averaging and decreasing the concentration of spark energy.

  • In order to minimize straightness error of deflected shaft, a geometric adaptive straightness controller system is studied. A multi-step straightening and a three-point bending process have been developed for the geometric adaptive straightness controller. Load-deflection relationship, on-line identification of variations of material properties, on-line springback prediction, and real-time hydraulic control methodology are studied for the three-point bending process. By deflection pattern analysis and fuzzy self-learning method in the multi-step straightening process, a straightening point and direction, desired permanent deflection and supporting condition are determined. An automatic straightening machine has been fabricated for rack bars by using the developed ideas. Validity of the proposed system is verified through experiments.

  • This study was designed to gain insights into students' visualization process in geometric problem solving. The visualization model for analysing visual process for geometric problem solving was developed on the base of Duval's study. The subjects of this research are two Grade 9 students and six Grade 10 students. They were given 2D-geometric problems. Their written solutions were analyzed problem is research depicted characteristics of process of visualization of individually. The findings on the students' geometric problem solving process are as follows: In geometric problem solving, visualization provided a significant insight by improving the students' figural apprehension. In particular, the discoursive apprehension and the operative apprehension contributed to recognize relation between the constituent of figures and grasp structure of figure.

  • In order to utilize remote sensed images widely, it is necessary to correct geometrically. Traditional approaches to geometric correction require substantial human operations. Such substantial human operations make geometric correction a laborious and tedious process. In this paper, We introduce concept of GCP(Ground Control Point) Chip and generate a GCP Chip for automatic geometric correction. GCP Chip is small image patch which has a GCP in reference coordinate image. GCP Chip will be used to match new images in geometric correction. We generated GCP chip using Landsat-7 ETM+ panchromatic band image in this study. Henceforth this result will support automatic process in geometric correction.

  • parameters in surface grinding. Taguchi method which is one of the design of experiments has been introduced in achieving the aims. The process parameters were the grain size, the wheel speed, the depth of cut and the table speed. The effect of the process parameters on the geometric error was examined and an optimal set of the parameters was selected to minimize the geometric error within the controllable range of the used grinding machine. The reliability of the results was evaluated by the ANOVA.

  • Usually triangular patches are used to transfer geometric shape in Rapid Prototyping CAM system. STL, a list of triangles, is de facto standard in RP industry. Because STL does not have topological infoma- tion, it can cause errornous results. So STL should be verified before using. After adding support structures to anchor the part to the platform and to prevent sagging or distortion, slicing and layer by layer manufactur- ing process are done. But triangular patch is surface model and cannot provide sufficient information on geometry in the above processes. So, geometric modeling is necessary in verifying STL, adding support structures and slicing. It is natural that triangle based modeling is the best when tringular patches are used as input. Considering support structures, solid and faces coexist in RP process. Therefore non-manifold modeler is required. In this study, triangle based non-manifold geometric modeling is proposed for RP sys- tem consistent with STL input.

  • For effective part modifications which is necessary in the design process frequently, variational geometric modeling with constraint management being used in a wide. Most variational geometric modeling methods, however, manage just the constraints about sketch elements used for generation of primitives. Thus, not only constraint propagation but also re-build of various modeling operations stored in the modeling history is necessary iota part geometry modifications. Especially, re-build of high-cost Boolean operations is apt to deteriorate overall modeling efficiency abruptly. Therefore, in this paper we proposed an algorithm that can handle all geometric entities of the part directly. For this purpose, we introduced eight type geometric constraints to the various geometric calculations about all geometric entities in sweepings and Boolean operations as well as the existing constraints of the sketch elements. The algorithm has a merit of rapid part geometric modifications through only constraint propagation without rebuild of modeling operations which are necessary in the existing variational geometric modeling method.

  • We consider an asymmetric power transformed threshold GARCH(1.1) process and find sufficient conditions for the existence of a strictly stationary solution, geometric ergodicity and ${\beta}$-mixing property. Moments conditions are given. Box-Cox transformed threshold GARCH(1.1) is also considered as a special case.
