지열에너지 개발용 GIS 모델링 (Modeling of GIS for geothermal energy development)

  • For the development of geothermal energy, many different kind of geoscientific data including both surface geological data and underground geomechanical data, are acquired. Integration of such data itself for better understanding of underground condition is not a simple process due to complexity of the data, i.e. mixture of 20 and 3D data, mixture of geological data, geochemical data, geomechanical data and hydrogeological data. This paper reports a preliminary suggestion of GIS modeling for such specific purpose. Data used for GIS modeling mainly came from British case studies. The modeling is much more focused on the design of database for 3D underground geotechnical data in this study.

  • 최근 들어 한반도에 중규모의 지진이 연속해서 발생함에 따라 중앙정부와 지방자치단체에서는 지진방재 대책을 새로이 마련하고 있다. 지진재해 분석에서 가장 핵심적인 정보는 지질과 지반정보로 여러 관계기관에서 관련자료를 수집하고 DB를 구축하고 있다. 하지만, 실제 이러한 정보들을 지자체의 지진방재 대책 수립에 이용하고자 할 때는 여러 문제점이 발생하고 있다. 지질정보의 경우, 소축척 지질도는 개략적으로 표현이 되어 세부적인 특징을 보여주기가 어렵고, 대축척 지질도는 도폭 간의 경계에서 암상이 불일치하거나 구조선의 연장이 불분명하다. 지반정보의 경우, 디지털화가 이루어지지 않고 사장된 정보들이 다수 존재한다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위해 지진방재 대책의 기초단위인 지방자치단체 단계에서의 지질·지반정보관리 정책방안을 제시하였다. 첫째, 이미 생산되었거나 생산될 지질정보와 지반정보를 보다 효율적이고 전문적으로 이용하기 위하여 산학연 기술연계 방안이 필요하다. 둘째, 많은 지질과 지반정보가 축적될 수 있도록 자치법규 제정 및 개정이 요구된다. 셋째, 지질·지반정보의 질적 향상을 위하여 전문가시스템 도입방안이 마련되어야 한다. 넷째, 효율적인 정보의 관리를 위하여 전담부서 신설과 예산지원 확대가 필요하다.

초등 수준 지질학 용어의 시대적 변천과 의미 탐색 (A Study on the Changes and Meanings of Geological Terminologies for Elementary School Science Level)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the geological terms used in the elementary school science curriculums from 1876 to present. We collected the data of geological terminologies based on what is being used in the revised 2007 national curriculum. In this study, data was divided into three periods according to political events, "The Modern Enlightenment Period (1876~1910)", "The Japanese Colonial Period (1910~1945)", and "The Current Curriculum Period (1945~present)". During the early modern enlightenment period, translated Chinese characters' terminologies by western scholars in Qing-China were used in science books. The late modern enlightenment period, we used many translated Japanese textbooks in schools, which naturally introduced the way that Japan's terminology is used. In the Japanese colonial period, Korean students had to study science subjects written in Japanese characters, so they had used Japanese terminologies of science. After the liberation of Korea from the Imperial Japan, there was an efforts to make new Korean terminologies of geology under the new current national curriculum. However, the terminologies used in Korean textbooks ended up using and borrowing the same way that the Japanese-Sino terms of science used later.

Comparison of the Paleontological Heritages of South Korea with Those of North Korea: Implications for Potential International Heritages

  • The important PH (paleontological heritages) with scientific, educational and esthetic values designated as natural monuments and protected by legislations of South and North Koreas are herein compared for the first time. On the basis of data (Jan. 2017) provided by the Cultural Heritage Administration of (South) Korea, a total of 457 natural monuments was designated. Of these, geological heritages are 80 in number, which includes 24 (30%) PH. Data (Dec. 2005) of North Korea show that a total of 474 natural monuments was designated. Among these, geological and geographical ones are 154 in number, which includes 22 (14%) PH. Differences between PH of South and North Koreas are regarded to be directly related with geological difference in distribution of the fossil-bearing strata between South and North Koreas. PH of Silurian corals, Devonian plants, Jurassic fishes, Cretaceous dinosaur tracks, birds (so called Korean Archaeopteryx) and pterosaurs, and Pleistocene paleoanthropological fossils appear to be scientifically significant. Together with these North Korean PH, scientific, esthetic, conservational, educational, and economical values of important PH including KCDC (Korean Cretaceous Dinosaur Coast), Jigunsan Shale, and Geumgwangdong Shale of South Korea should be evaluated as potential future candidates for international heritages.

A Markov-based prediction model of tunnel geology, construction time, and construction costs

  • The necessity of estimating the time and cost required for tunnel construction has led to extensive research in this regard. Since geological conditions are significant factors in terms of time and cost of road tunnels, considering these conditions is crucial. Uncertainties about the geological conditions of a tunnel alignment cause difficulties in planning ahead of the required construction time and costs. In this paper, the continuous-space, discrete-state Markov process has been used to predict geological conditions. The Monte-Carlo (MC) simulation (MCS) method is employed to estimate the construction time and costs of a road tunnel project using the input data obtained from six tunneling expert questionnaires. In the first case, the input data obtained from each expert are individually considered and in the second case, they are simultaneously considered. Finally, a comparison of these two modes based on the technique presented in this article suggests considering views of several experts simultaneously to reduce uncertainties and ensure the results obtained for geological conditions and the construction time and costs.

Prediction of tunneling parameters for ultra-large diameter slurry shield TBM in cross-river tunnels based on integrated algorithms

  • The development of shield-driven cross-river tunnels in China is witnessing a notable shift towards larger diameters, longer distances, and higher water pressures due to the more complex excavation environment. Complex geological formations, such as fault and karst cavities, pose significant construction risks. Real-time adjustment of shield tunneling parameters based on parameter prediction is the key to ensuring the safety and efficiency of shield tunneling. In this study, prediction models for the torque and thrust of the cutter plate of ultra-large diameter slurry shield TBMs is established based on integrated learning algorithms, by analyzing the real data of Heyan Road cross-river tunnel. The influence of geological complexities at the excavation face, substantial burial depth, and high water level on the slurry shield tunneling parameters are considered in the models. The results reveal that the predictive models established by applying Random Forest and AdaBoost algorithms exhibit strong agreement with actual data, which indicates that the good adaptability and predictive accuracy of these two models. The models proposed in this study can be applied in the real-time prediction and adaptive adjustment of the tunneling parameters for shield tunneling under complex geological conditions.

야외 지질 답사 교육에서 나타난 귀추적 탐구 수행 특성 변화 (Changes of the Abductive Inquiry Performance in Outdoor Geological Fieldwork)

  • 본 연구는 귀추적 탐구 중심 야외 지질 답사 교육의 실제에 대한 설명을 제공하기 위해, 명시적 지질학 지식 및 탐구 학습 도입 전·후의 지질 답사에서 나타난 학생들의 귀추 수행 특징을 살펴보았다. 이를 위해 사전 평가, 초기 답사, 명시적 지질학 지식 및 탐구 학습, 후기 답사, 사후 평가 등의 순서로 진행되는 21차시의 프로그램을 개발하여 중학생 9명에게 적용했다. 연구 자료로서 야외 지질 답사 수업 녹화·녹음 자료 및 학생 활동지가 수집되어 질적으로 분석되었다. 연구 결과, 초기 답사에서 학생들은 지질학적 중요도가 낮은 단서를 포착했고, 해당 단서의 생성 원인에 대한 가설 생성을 요구받자 일상 경험 및 일반 과학 지식을 규칙으로 활용했으며, 생성된 가설을 규칙의 과학성이나 임의적 기준에 의해 평가했다. 한편, 후기 답사에서 학생들은 지질학적 핵심 단서를 포착했고, 자발적으로 해당 단서와 관련된 지질학적 사건 가설을 지질학 개념을 규칙으로 차용해 생성했으며, 생성된 가설을 관찰 증거와 규칙의 정합성을 바탕으로 과학적으로 평가했다. 이러한 결과를 종합하여, 지질 답사에서 능숙한 귀추 수행을 위해 학습자의 지질학 지식과 탐구(귀추) 역량이 미치는 영향을 경로로 제시했다.

여수 사도의 지형 및 지질경관 특성 (The Characteristics of Geomorphological and Geological Landscapes in Sado, Yeosu City, Korea)

  • 본 연구는 사도(중도와 증도를 포함)에 분포하는 지형 및 지질경관의 특성을 조사하여 생태관광 및 지오투어리즘 그리고 학생을 위한 현장체험학습의 기초 자료를 제공하는데 목적이 있다. 연구지역에 분포하는 지형 및 지질경관은 국립환경과학원(2007)의 분류 안에 따르면 9종류의 지형경관 그리고 한국환경정책 평가연구원(2003)의 분류 안을 따르면 17종류가 분포하고 있다. 이러한 지형 및 지질경관은 사도를 찾는 관광객을 위한 생태관광, 지오투어리즘을 위한 기초 자료가 될 뿐 아니라 초, 중등 학생이 교과서에 제시된 다양한 지형과 지질의 예를 경험하고 관찰할 수 있는 현장체험학습의 자료로서도 활용가치가 있다. 또한 한국환경정책 평가연구원(2003)에서 제시한 지형 및 지질 유산의 조사 대상에 대해서는 보다 전문적이고 정밀한 조사를 통해 이들의 보존가치를 판단할 필요성이 있다.

기초 형식 및 공법 선정을 위한 전문가 시스템 개발 (Developing An Expert System for The Selection of Foundation Types and Methods)

  • This paper describes the development of an expert system designed to help engineers select proper foundation types and construction methods for structures under various subsoil conditions. The system includes geographical and geological data in certain areas of Ulsan and a knowledge base for the selection of foundation types. Geological data, such as boring logs, in the areas were collected and arranged to form the subsoil database in the areas concerned Test borings at 30 holes were carried out for reference and confirmation purposes. The use of this system is twofold. It provides the users with a quick view on the geological situations of the areas concerned, and suggests proper foundation types for the specific spot together with some explanations on the selected foundation types and methods.

  • The Rock mass in which constructed a tunnel consist of the geological formations or the engineering rock type. Each layers are distinguished by the mineral, weathering and distributions of faults and Joints. Therefore, a tunneling design in rock mass starts from understanding and analyzing of the various geological engineering factors and then the engineering characteristics and distributions for each layers are determined to analysis and collection of the efficient informations. For this working, next two problems have to be solved. First, the layers in rock mass have to be classified and their distributions have to be defined. Second, the rock mass classifications and distributions based on the standard engineering classification have to be determined. Efficiently to approaching this two problems, the best solution is all geotechnical data are embodied to 3-D.
