  • Current computer technologies developing. our requirements are changing from simple alpha-numeric processing to graphic and image. spatial data processing which are easy for user to understand and use. Geographic information system is a kind of spatial database system that can not only print out the data in the form of maps but also manipulate. store. retrieve. and analyze the geographic data. It is efficient system that can process the spatial data which has a geographical feature and its relative attribute data. Conventional relational database management systems are not suitable for spatial data processing, so we need to design the spatial database mana-gement system which is suitable for efficient spatial data processing. In this paper we design the extended storage management system that supports the spatial index technique that allows user to access fast and store and manage the enormous spatial data efficiently like geographic information system.

  • Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) is developing as a tool for environmentally sound and sustainable development in Korea. For more effective implementation of it, we try to apply Environmental Information System (EIS) to EIA process. EIS is composed of geographic and attribute data related to environment and Geographic Information System(GIS), and it will be applied to scoping, prediction, and alternative assessment, etc. in EIA. This study focuses on application of geographic data using GIS in suitability analysis of alternative assessment. We use TIN, buffering, and overlaying in GIS functions.

  • Using SPOT satellite imagery, 3 dimensional geographic information can be obtained from SPOT's oblique viewing image. Especially, SPOT provides high spatial resolution, adequate base/height ratio and stable orbit characteristics. In this paper, 3D terrain features were extracted using SPOT stereo image and also the techniques for generation of 3D graphic data were developed for the extracted terrain features. We developed computer programs to generate automatically 3D graphic files and to display geographic information on the computer screen. The results of this study may be effectively utilized for the development of 3D geographic information using satellite images.

  • Contamination flashover is responsible for insulator electrical failures. Particularly, in Korea, with its perennially dry spring, the first spring rain often cause serious line outages by forming a conductive liquid film on the insulator surface. Rainwater and fog are not normally conductive but unfortunately atmospheric dust deposited on the insulator surface contains soluble salts which may lead to bad condition of insulation by combining watery and salts. Transmission design engineers have used a contamination map drawn on the traditional paper map. But it is not convenient because it does not include the information of Geographic Information accurately. This paper explains the newly developed salt contamination map program using Geographic Information System, which provide accurate geographic information. The program is designed to use four parts of datum, salt contamination levels, 345kV & 154 kV transmission lines, power plants & substations and background map. The digital background map is composed of raster files, the others are done by vector map.

  • Location services are used in mobile ad hoc and hybrid networks to locate either the geographic position of a given node in the network or a data item. One of the main usages of position location services is presented in location based routing algorithms. In particular, geographic routing protocols can route messages more efficiently to their destinations based on the destination node's geographic position, which is provided by a location service. In this paper, we propose an adaptive location service on the basis of fuzzy logic called FHLS (Fuzzy Hierarchical Location Service) for mobile ad hoc networks. The adaptive location update scheme using the fuzzy logic on the basis of the mobility and the call preference of mobile nodes is used by the FHLS. The performance of the FHLS is to be evaluated by a simulation, and compared with that of existing HLS scheme.

  • The primary purpose of this study is firstly, to ascertain the suitability of the IT BSC (balanced scorecard) methodology for the performance analysis of EGIS(environment geographic information system), secondly, to analyze the outcome of EGIS using the methodology, and finally to present guidelines for effectively managing the performance of EGIS. This study has rebuilt the IT BSC methodology based on the previous study on the performance analysis of GIS and EGIS whose performance over the past five years has been evaluated. According to the analysis, the integrated performance is estimated at 105.3 points. This figure indicates that the cumulative performance of EGIS is more than the baseline of goal, 100.0 points. The feature of this study is to develop a new methodology suitable for the EGIS performance analysis and to evaluate and quantify the total performance of EGIS objectively through the application of the new methodology.
