  • Pedestrian assemblage is now a normal phenomenon in modern cities. To maintain an unblocked traffic situation, protect the pedestrians' safety and make preparedness for any emergencies is an important task for police department. Modeling pedestrian dynamics and simulating evacuation process can provide useful information for make accurate decisions. In this paper, by virtue of geographic information technologies, the authors proposed a conceptual framework to simulate pedestrian dynamics and evacuation in an open urban environment.

  • After 1995, as a part of national geographic information system project, there are a lot of researches about combinations and connections of national geographic information system. However, systematic standard for combinations and connections of geographic information is uncertain, and each organization has different identification system which leads to difficulties in connection of geographic information system. This study suggests repeating method about geographic information objects to grant UFID based on national standards of geographic information system, and analyzes the repeating rate.

  • Recently, because of the extensive use of geographic information in the various fields, the requirement for the easy circulation and utilization of the various geographic information among the individuals, organizations, societies and countries is raised. In order to support the interoperability of the heterogeneous geographic information in the various fields, OGC(Open GIS Consortium) proposed the GML(Geography Markup Language) specification that defines the XML encoding rule about the heterogeneous geographic information. In addition, ISO/TC 211 adopted the GML specification to make it as the international standard. Therefore, in this paper, we first analyzed the GML 3.0 specification in detail that can support the interoperability of the heterogeneous geographic information. And then we suggested and applied the mapping rule that define the encoding method to improve the encoding process easily and efficiently. Finally, we designed and implemented the GML 3.0 encoding system using the mapping rule to encode the geographic information that was constructed in spatial databases into the GML 3.0 document. Especially, we used ZEUS as a spatial database system to test our encoding system in this paper.

  • The research investigates the identification of necessary geographic information needed by forest fire suppression helicopter pilots, and the ways to acquire the required information from public institutions. Firefighting helicopter pilots demand 7 physical geographic and 13 human geographic data. Applying the geographical information acquired from Korean public institutions, the following 15 characteristics (3 physical geographic, 12 human geographic) can be found: altitude and highlands, river, high population and urban areas, roads, national park and state boundaries, fuel re-supply facilities, freshwater areas, cultural assets, (LPG)gas charging stations, gas stations, ammunition storage areas, ground power cables, and steel towers. Within the database of physical geography, there is a need for improvement on bird habitat details. Also, the availability of visibility, wind directions, and wind velocity data is limited and therefore requires refining. The location of refueling areas can be obtained by applying information received from institutions to the GIS spatial analysis.

  • It should be needed to realize a general system which make it possible to enjoy cyber tourism based on knowledge information system to recover a local potential growth power, catch a jumping chance again, and hold a new competitive power. But to discuss a tourism information system, the matters of hard ware, software and information mediating system should be reviewed generally, this research is likely to provide a cyber tourism information system through internet as a way of cyber tours through multimedia technology and stereoscopic image technique using geographic information system centering on the networking system of tourism information. Constructing $\ulcorner$cyber touristy city$\lrcorner$ on internet, foster a new industry, to go balanced with a present tourism industry and experience a virtual reality, various theme tours create high profit to shrunken tourism industry. Remark : multimedia technology, stereoscopic image, geographic information system

  • The bistatic sonar operations using a spatially-separated source and receiver are classified into cooperative and non-cooperative operations. In the cooperative operation, an active signal of a friendly ship is used and the source information is known previously. In the non-cooperative operation, an active signal of the enemy is used and it is difficult to find out the source information. The source information consists of the range, speed, course and frequency of the source. It gives advantage to operating bistatic sonar. This paper suggests a method of estimating the source information with geographic information in the sea and the single-ping of the enemy. The source range is given using one geographic point. And the source speed, course and the frequency of the enemy's source signal are given using two geographic points. Finally, the validity of the scheme is confirmed through a simulation study.

  • In this paper, we designed and implemented an Internet Geographic Information System called IGIS, that supports the client/server architecture connected via the Internet. IGIS is consists of the Map Server and the Map Viewer which can be located at a server site and client sites, respectively. In addition, we used the Common Gateway Interface(CGI) to service the geographic information on the Internet and used a DXF(Data exchange Format) file as a geographic data in IGIS.
