Genetic Diversity of Chinese Indigenous Pig Breeds in Shandong Province Using Microsatellite Markers

  • To investigate the genetic diversity of six Chinese indigenous pig breeds in Shandong province (Laiwu Black, Dapulian Black, Licha Black, Yantai Black, Yimeng Black and Wulian Black), explain their genetic relationship and assess their integrity and degree of admixture with three Western commercial breeds (Landrace, Yorkshire and Duroc), 303 individuals from these breeds were genotyped for 26 microsatellite markers. In general, high genetic diversity (observed heterozygosity ranging from 0.5495 to 0.7746) and large breed differentiation ($F_{ST}$ = 0.188) were observed. The indigenous pig breeds in Shandong exhibited consistently higher levels of genetic diversity than the three Western breeds. However, compared with the Western breeds, which have an $F_{ST}$ value of 0.252, the indigenous breeds in Shandong have smaller $F_{ST}$ value of 0.145. The analysis of breed relationship indicated that the six indigenous breeds are classified into two groups. One includes four breeds, Licha, Yantai, Yimeng and Wulian, which have experienced large gene introgression of the Western breeds through progressive crossbreeding as well as gene flow among themselves. The other includes Laiwu and Dapulian, which are less influenced by the Western breeds and other indigenous breeds in Shandong in the recent past. The results show that some measures must be taken to effectively protect these indigenous pig breeds in Shandong.

  • This paper presents a genetic programming based evolutionary strategy for on-line adaptive learnable evolvable hardware. Genetic programming can be useful control method for evolvable hardware for its unique tree structured chromosome. However it is difficult to represent tree structured chromosome on hardware, and it is difficult to use crossover operator on hardware. Therefore, genetic programming is not so popular as genetic algorithms in evolvable hardware community in spite of its possible strength. We propose a chromosome representation methods and a hardware implementation method that can be helpful to this situation. Our method uses context switchable identical block structure to implement genetic tree on evolvable hardware. We composed an evolutionary strategy for evolvable hardware by combining proposed method with other's striking research results. Proposed method is applied to the autonomous mobile robots cooperation problem to verify its usefulness.

  • this paper suggests a genetic algorithms combining simulated annealing for PID factor tunning. This paper made Off-Line control parameter tuning of the DC servo motor for the speed, In this paper new method to design PID controller through proposed genetic algorithm. Two experiments compared both the PID controller using genetic algorithms and PID controller using proposed genetic algorithm for a DC-servo motor. The result of two experiments was safty higher PID controller using proposed genetic algorithm than PID controller using genetic algorithm.

  • Cognitive radio is an advanced technology for efficient utilization of under-utilized spectrum via spectrum sensing. CR users should move from current allocating channel to empty channel to avoid the interference to the primary user if the primary user is allocating that channel. Thus, CR system cannot support the CR user's QoS(Quaiity of Service). In this paper, we propose dynamic frequency selection method based on Genetic Algorithm with power control. It is to find the optimization channel for satisfying various CR user's needs with the power control method to minimize the CR user's interference to the primary user. And, we propose the Genetic Algorithm(GA) which determines the best configuration for CR communication systems. The computer simulation results show that the proposed method guaranteed the primary user's decodability and the optimized solution for various channel status.

  • The FLC(Fuzzy Logic Controller) is stronger to the disturbance and has the excellent characteristic to the overshoot of the initialized value than the classical controller, and also can carry out the proper control being out of all relation to the mathematical model and parameter value of the system. But it has the restriction which can't adopt the environment changes of the control system because of generating the fuzzy control rule through an expert's experience and the fixed value of the once determined control rule, and also can't converge correctly to the desired value because of haying the minute error of the controller output value. Now there are many suggested methods to eliminate the minute error, we also suggest the GA-FNNIC(Genetic Algorithm Fuzzy Neural Network Intelligence Controller) combined FLC with NN(Neural Network) and GA(Genetic Algorithm). In this paper, we compare the suggested GA-FNNIC with FLC and analyze the output characteristics, convergence speed, overshoot and rising time. Finally we show that the GA-FNNIC converge correctly to the desirable value without any error.

Thermal impacts on transcriptome of Pectoralis major muscle collected from commercial broilers, Thai native chickens and its crossbreeds

  • Objective: The main objective of this study was to define molecular mechanisms associated with thermal stress responses of chickens from commercial broilers (BR, Ross 308), Thai native chickens (NT) and crossbreeds between BR×NT (H75). Methods: Twenty days before reaching specific market age, chickens from each breed were divided into control and thermal-stressed groups. The stressed groups were exposed to a cyclic thermal challenge (35℃±1℃ for 6 h, followed by 26℃±1℃ for 18 h) for 20 days. Control group was raised under a constant temperature of 26℃±1℃. Pectoralis major (n = 4) from each group was collected for transcriptome analysis using HiSeq Illumina and analysis of glycogen and lactate. Gene expression patterns between control and thermal-stressed groups were compared within the same breeds. Results: Differentially expressed transcripts of 65, 59, and 246 transcripts for BR, NT, and H75, respectively, were revealed by RNA-Seq and recognized by Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes database. Pathway analysis underlined altered glucose homeostasis and protein metabolisms in all breeds. The signals centered around phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase (PI3K)/Akt signaling, focal adhesion, and MAPK signaling in all breeds with slight differences in molecular signal transduction patterns among the breeds. An extensive apoptosis was underlined for BR. Roles of AMPK, MAPK signaling and regulation of actin cytoskeleton in adaptive response were suggested for H75 and NT chickens. Lower glycogen content was observed in the breast muscles of BR and NT (p<0.01) compared to their control counterparts. Only BR muscle exhibited increased lactate (p<0.01) upon exposure to the stress. Conclusion: The results provided a better comprehension regarding the associated biological pathways in response to the cyclic thermal stress in each breed and in chickens with different growth rates.

Optimization of Whole Body Cooperative Posture for an 18-DOF Humanoid Robot Using a Genetic Algorithm (유전알고리즘을 이용한 18자유도 인간형 로봇의 자세 최적화)

  • When a humanoid robot pushes an object with its force, it is essential to adequately control its posture so as to maximize the surplus torque far all joints. For such purpose, this study proposes a method to find an optimal posture of a humanoid robot using a genetic algorithm in such a way that the surplus torque for all joints is maximized. In this study, pushing motion of an 18-DOF humanoid robot is considered. When the robot takes a cooperative motion to push an object, the palms and soles are assumed to be fixed at the object and ground respectively, and are subjected to sense the reaction force from the object and the ground. Then, the torques for all joints are calculated and reflected to fitness function of the genetic algorithm. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, a number of simulations with different fitness functions are carried out. The simulation result shows that the proposed method can be adopted to find optimized posture in cooperative motion of a humanoid robot.

Design of Fuzzy Controller using Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (다목적 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 퍼지제어기의 설계)

  • The controller that can control the smart base isolation system consisting of M damper and friction pendulum systems(FPS) is developed in this study. A fuzzy logic controller (FLC) is used to modulate the M damper force because the FLC has an inherent robustness and ability to handle non-linearities and uncertainties. A genetic algorithm (GA) is used for optimization of the FLC. When earthquake excitations are applied to the structures equipped with smart base isolation system, the relative displacement at the isolation level as well as the acceleration of the structure should be regulated under appropriate level. Thus, NSGA-II(Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm) is employed in this study as a multi-objective genetic algorithm to meet more than two control objectives, simultaneously. NSGA-II is used to determine appropriate fuzzy control rules as well to adjust parameters of the membership functions. Effectiveness of the proposed method for optimal design of the FLC is judged based on computed responses to several historical earthquakes. It has been shown that the proposed method can efficiently find Pareto optimal sets that can reduce both structural acceleration and base drift from numerical studies.

  • It is important to determine supporting locations for structural stability when a structure is loaded with non-uniform load or supporting locations as well as the number of the supporting structures are restricted by the problem of space. Moreover, the supporting location optimization of complex structure in real world is frequently faced with discontinuous design space. Therefore, the traditional optimization methods based on derivative are not suitable Whereas, Genetic Algorithm (CA) based on stochastic search technique is a very robust and general method. The KSTAR in-vessel control coil installed in vacuum vessel is loaded with non- uniform electro-magnetic load and supporting locations are restricted by the problem of space. This paper shows the supporting location optimization for structural stability of the in-vessel control coil. Optimization has been performed by means of a developed program. It consists of a Finite Element Analysis interfaced with a Genetic Algorithm. In addition, this paper presents an algorithm to find an optimum solution in discontinuous space using continuous design variables.

Optimal Design of Outrigger Damper using Multi-objective Genetic Algorithm (다목적 유전자 알고리즘을 이용한 아웃리거 댐퍼의 최적설계)

  • Recently, a concept of damped outrigger system has been proposed for tall buildings. Structural characteristics and design method of this system were not sufficiently investigated to date. In this study, control performance of damped outrigger system for building structures subjected to seismic excitations has been investigated. And optimal design method of damped outrigger system has been proposed using multi-objective genetic algorithm. To this end, a simplified numerical model of damped outrigger system has been developed. State-space equation formulation proposed in previous research was used to make a numerical model. Multi-objective genetic algorithms has been employed for optimal design of the stiffness and damping parameters of the outrigger damper. Based on numerical analyses, it has been shown that the damped outrigger system control dynamic responses of the tall buildings subjected to earthquake excitations in comparison with a traditional outrigger system.
