We examined the genetic variation within the species, the patterns of genetic diversty between populations, thermostability variations of enzymes and temperature tolerances of Corbicula japonica from the two main rivers In Korea. Starch gel electrophoresis was used to examine the genetic variation of 22 locl. Henting experiments of electrophoresis under the condition of 40$\pm$5$^{\circ}$ for 15$\pm$5 min disclose thermostabllity differences, called heat-sensitive and heat-resistant types, within each 디ectrophoretic allozyme. Genetic diversity at the natural species level was high (77.3%), whereas the extent of heat-treat groups was relatively low (52.6%). The genetic diversity trends to decrease from the source of two main siderable high genetic diversity compared with a mean value of C. japonica species, It is recommended that several populations of the species in Korea should be preserved.

A small body size of Brown Tsaiya laying duck is desirable to reduce maintenance requirements, so the body weight at 40 weeks of age (BW40) has to be maintained at its current level. Egg weight has to be maintained at around 65 g to meet market requirements. Eggshell strength at 40 weeks of age (ES40) must to be increased in order to maintain a low incidence of broken eggs. Thus, number of eggs laid up to 52 weeks of age (EN52) has to be increased without negative correlated response on ES40. A new linear genetic selection index was used: $I_g=a_0{\times}GEW40\;(g)+a_1{\times}GBW40\;(g)+a_2{\times}GES40\;(kg/cm^2)+a_3{\times}GEN52\;(eggs)$ where GEW40, GBW40, GES40 and GEN52 were the multitrait best linear unbiased prediction (MT-BLUP) animal model predictors of the breeding values respectively of egg weight and body weight at 40 weeks of age (EW40, BW40), ES40 and EN52. The coefficients $a_0$, $a_1$, $a_2$ and $a_3$ were calculated with constraints of 0.0 g, 0.0 g and $0.013kg/cm^2$ for expected genetic gains in EW40, BW40 and ES40 respectively and maximum gain in EN52. Since 1997, the drakes and the ducks were selected according to their own indexes, with this new genetic selection index. From G0 to G4, the average per generation predicted genetic responses in female duck were +0.05 g for EW40, +0.92 g for BW40, $+0.035kg/cm^2$ for ES40 and +2.13 eggs for EN52. Which represented respectively 0.07%, 0.06%, 0.67% and 1.0% of the means of the EW40, BW40, ES40 and EN52. For ES40 and EN52, it represented also respectively 16.1% and 21.6% of the additive genetic standard deviation of these traits. Thevse results indicated that selection of laying Brown Tsaiya by a restricted genetic selection index and with MT-BLUP animal model could be an efficient tool for improving the efficiency of egg production, increasing egg shell strength and egg number while holding egg weight and body weight constants.
Background: The Hanwoo industry must develop technologies that can increase the production of preferred cuts to match changing consumer trends. In this study, we aimed to estimate the genetic parameters for carcass traits (carcass weight, eye muscle area, back fat thickness, and intramuscular fat) and primal cut traits (tenderloin, loin, strip loin, neck, clod, top round, bottom round, brisket, shank, and rib) in a Hanwoo population to obtain basic data for improving primal cut productivity. Methods: Data from 1,905 Hanwoo steers, including carcass traits and primal cut weights, were collected. Genetic parameters were estimated using REMLF90 in a multi-trait analysis. Results: High heritability was found for carcass weight (0.52) and strip loin yield (0.63). Genetic correlations between carcass weight and primal cut weights ranged from 0.52 to 0.93. Conclusions: This study demonstrates the significant potential for genetic improvement in Hanwoo cattle through selective breeding, particularly for traits with high heritability and genetic correlations. These findings provide crucial insights into optimizing breeding programs to improve Hanwoo cattle production efficiency.
Growth records over six generations of 686 pigs in SD-II Swine Line were used to estimate the genetic and phenotypic covariance functions for body weight as longitudinal data. A random regression model with Legendre polynomials of age as independent variables was used to estimate the (co)variances among the regression coefficients, thus the coefficients of genetic and permanent environmental covariance functions by restricted maximum likelihood employing the average information algorithm. The results showed that, using litter effect as additional random effect, a reduced order of fit did not describe the data adequately. For all five orders of fit, however, the change trends of genetic and phenotypic (co)variances were very similar from ${\kappa}$=3 onwards.

Recently the trends toward reduction in size of industrial products have increased the application of micro drilling. But micro drilling has still much difficulty so that the needs for active control which give adaptation to controller are expanding. In this paper initial cutting condition was determined for some sorkpieces by experiment and GA-based Fuzzy controller was devised by genetic algorithms and fuzzy inference. The fuzzy inference has been applied to the various prob- lems. However the determination of the membership function is one of the difficult problem. So we introduce a genetic algorithms and propose a self-tuning method of fuzzy membership function. Based on this intelligent control, automation of micro drilling was carried out like the cutting process of skilled machinist.

A total of 32,817 test-day milk yield (TDMY) records of the first lactation of 4,056 Girolando cows daughters of 276 sires, collected from 118 herds between 2000 and 2011 were utilized to estimate the genetic parameters for TDMY via random regression models (RRM) using Legendre's polynomial functions whose orders varied from 3 to 5. In addition, nine measures of persistency in milk yield ($PS_i$) and the genetic trend of 305-day milk yield (305MY) were evaluated. The fit quality criteria used indicated RRM employing the Legendre's polynomial of orders 3 and 5 for fitting the genetic additive and permanent environment effects, respectively, as the best model. The heritability and genetic correlation for TDMY throughout the lactation, obtained with the best model, varied from 0.18 to 0.23 and from -0.03 to 1.00, respectively. The heritability and genetic correlation for persistency and 305MY varied from 0.10 to 0.33 and from -0.98 to 1.00, respectively. The use of $PS_7$ would be the most suitable option for the evaluation of Girolando cattle. The estimated breeding values for 305MY of sires and cows showed significant and positive genetic trends. Thus, the use of selection indices would be indicated in the genetic evaluation of Girolando cattle for both traits.
Human exposure to pollutants has been on the rise. Thus, researchers have been focused on understanding the effect of these compounds on human health, especially on the genetic information by using various tests, among them the somatic mutation and recombination tests (SMARTs). It is a sensitive and accurate method applicable to genotoxicity analysis. Here, a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of SMART assays in genotoxicity studies was performed to assess publication trends of this field. Data were extracted from the Web of Science database and analyzed by the bibliometric tools HistCite, Biblioshiny (RStudio), VOSViewer, and CiteSpace. Results have shown an increase in the last 10 years in terms of publication. A total of 392 records were published in 96 sources mainly from Brazil, Spain, and Turkey. Research collaboration networks between countries and authors were performed. Based on document co-citation, five large research clusters were identified and analyzed. The youngest research frontier emphasized on nanoparticles. With this study, how research trends evolve over years was demonstrated. Thus, international collaboration could be enhanced, and a promising field could be developed.
Objectives: Effective genetic toxicology and molecular biology research techniques and strategies that are highly correlated with the carcinogenic inhalation toxicity test and related research are required. The aim of this study was to maximize the utilization of chemical substances to prevent workers' occupational diseases. Methods: We surveyed the literature, domestic and international references, and the status of relevant domestic and foreign professional organizations. Expert advisory opinions were reflected, and experts were consulted by participating in domestic and overseas academic conferences. Results: The current status of domestic and international genotoxic toxicity evaluation was examined through various documents from related organizations. Cell models for in vitro lung toxicology were investigated and summarized, and the human resources and performance results of genetic toxicity studies and pilot projects were compared and analyzed by holding an advisory meeting. We examined domestic and international genotoxicity guidelines and investigated new test methods for the development of genotoxicity and carcinogenicity. Ultimately, we described long-term future predictions, including the implementation of our researchers' recommendations and occupational genetic toxicology forecasts for future worker health protection. Conclusions: This research project aims to establish current genetic toxicology and molecular biology research techniques and strategies that can maximize the linkage with the carcinogenic inhalation toxicity test and research in the future. We expanded the study of genetic toxicity and establish a foundation forgenetic toxicity in accordance with research trends in Korea and abroad.
The eleven local samples of six species including Corbicula leana examined in this study were collected from the Nam River and the Nakdong River in Korea. Buzas's new formula was used to evaluate the ecological biodiversity among eleven populations and six species. In addition, enzyme electrophoresis was used to genetic diversity within and among populations of C. leana. The upper populations of the river have fewer species than the middle and low populations of this river. The genetic diversity trends to increase from the source of the main river to the mouth. It suggests that the population of downstream might be expanded toward upstream.
Five broiler chicken lines, namely HC, BPB2, CPB2, PB2 and UM1, involving in a selection program and differing in selection intensity and genetic background, were screened for randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) polymorphism using 10 selected decamer primers. Nine primers amplified the genomic DNA, generating 200 to 2,500 bp and all detected polymorphism between lines. Out of 74 bands scored using these primers, 34 (50.0%) were found to be polymorphic. The number of polymorphic loci ranged from 3 to 6 with an average of 4.33. Lines differed considerably for within-population genetic similarity estimated by band frequency (WS = 93.55 to 99.25). Between-line genetic similarity estimates based on band sharing as well as on band frequency ranged from 71.35 to 86.45 and from 73.38 to 87.68, respectively. Lines HC and PB2 were the most closely related to the other, while BPB2 and CPB2 appeared to be more distant from each other. The between-line genetic distance based on both band sharing and band frequency revealed the similar trends as for Between-line genetic similarity. Based on BS and BF criteria, BPB2 and CPB2 as well as PB2 and UM1 lines can be merged to launch a new genetic group for further progress in biometrical objectives. A phylogenetic tree, derived using Nei's coefficient of similarity revealed the different pattern of genetic distance between lines.
