The operational data of diesel generator engine is two kinds of data. One is interactive the other is non interactive. We can find the fault information from interactive data measured for every sampling time when the changing rate, direction and status of data are investigated in comparition with those of normal status to diagnose the fault of combustion system. The various data values of combustion system for diesel engine are not proportional to load condition. The criterion to decide the level of data value is not absolute but relative to relational data. This study proposes to compose malfunction diagnosis engine using neural networks to decide that level of data value is out of normal status with the data collected from generator engine of the ship using the commercial data mining tool. This paper investigates the real ship's operational data of diesel generator engine and confirms usefulness of fault detecting through simulations for fault detecting.
Recently, lack of power reserve margin was observed quite often. In this paper, we studied the method to secure power source for a short time, to cut the utility power peak load, and to reduce the users electricity bills. Emergency diesel generator of an office building is to be converted into a dual-fuel engine generator which is responsible for a portion of the peak load. Compared to the conventional diesel fuel generator, the proposed dual-fuel engine is able to reduce the generation power cost by dual-fuel combustion, and it also mitigates the building's utility power peak load by charging the building's peak load. If the dead resources (a group of emergency dual-fuel engine generators), as a Virtual Power Plant, are operating in peak time, we can significantly reduce future large power development costs. We investigated the current general purpose electricity bills as well as the records of the building electric power usage, and calculated diesel engine generator renovation costs, generation fuel costs, driving conditions, and savings in electricity bills. The proposed dual-fuel engine generation method reduces 18.1% of utility power peak load, and turned out to be highly attractive investment alternative which shows more than 27% of IRR, 76 million won of NPV, and 20~53 months of payback periods. The results of this study are expected to be useful to developing the policy & strategy of the energy department.
A grid-connected distributed generation system which consists of engine generator, dc link with multiple energy sources and inverter is proposed. All six of the stator leads of the generator, which is a surface mount permanent magnet machine, are brought out to the terminal of the generator. Three leads are connected to the inverter and the others are connected to the utility grid. In this proposed system the power from the engine-generator and the power from dc link can be controlled simultaneously by only one three-phase power converter. A control algorithm for the system is developed and verified by experiment results.
In this paper, peak detector of generator's output voltage and variable gain controller are introduced for a fast dynamic response. The conventional r,m.s, signal detected has inherent time delay, and the dynamic response of generator using conventional PID controller has some problem in sudden load change. In this paper, the peak detector and signal selector with variable gain controller is used to overcome this problem. The main controller can check the voltage state from the peak detector. When a sudden load change, the over-voltage and under-voltage signal from peak detector change the controller's gain and exciter's current reference. The proposed scheme can improve the dynamic response, which is verified from experimental test of 200kW diesel engine-generator.
Diesel generator of nuclear power plant has a role for supply of emergency electric power to protect reactor core system in event of loss of off-site power supply. Therefore diesel generator should be tested periodically to verify the function that can supply specified frequency and voltage at design power level within limited time. For this purpose, appropriate maintenances in case that abnormal conditions were found are required in allowed time. In this paper, results of development of engine condition diagnosis technology and study on power plant of its technology for diesel generator are described.
The emergency AC power supply system of the nuclear power plant is designed to supply the power to the nuclear power plant at the emergency operating condition. The safety function of the diesel generator at the nuclear power plant is to supply AC electric power to the safety system whenever the preferred AC power supply is unavailable. The reliable operation of onsite standby diesel generator should be ensured by a condition monitoring system designed to maintain, monitor and forecast the reliability level of diesel generator. The purpose of this paper is to improve the existing ultrasonic sensor used for condition diagnosis of engine fuel pump and cylinder head for the accurate diagnosis in actual engine condition of emergency diesel generator(EDG). As a result of this study, we could design and develop much more reliable ultrasonic sensor than existing ones.
