Application of Opposition-based Differential Evolution Algorithm to Generation Expansion Planning Problem

  • Generation Expansion Planning (GEP) is one of the most important decision-making activities in electric utilities. Least-cost GEP is to determine the minimum-cost capacity addition plan (i.e., the type and number of candidate plants) that meets forecasted demand within a pre specified reliability criterion over a planning horizon. In this paper, Differential Evolution (DE), and Opposition-based Differential Evolution (ODE) algorithms have been applied to the GEP problem. The original GEP problem has been modified by incorporating Virtual Mapping Procedure (VMP). The GEP problem of a synthetic test systems for 6-year, 14-year and 24-year planning horizons having five types of candidate units have been considered. The results have been compared with Dynamic Programming (DP) method. The ODE performs well and converges faster than DE.

  • The demise of the native franchise markets and the emergence of competitive markets in electricity generation service is substantially altering the way that operation and planning activity is conducted and is making it increasingly difficult for market participants such as generation firms to prospect the future electricity markets. Traditional generation expansion planning (GEP) problems which centrally determine the least-cost capacity addition plan that meets forecasted demand within pre-specified reliability criteria over a planning horizon (typically 10 to 20 years) is becoming no more valid in competitive market environments. Therefore, it requires to develop a new methodology for generation investments, which is applicable to the changed electric industry business environments and is able to address the post-privatization situation where individual generation firms seek to maximize their return on generation investments against uncertain market revenues. This paper formulates a new generation expansion planning problem and solve it in a market-oriented manner.

  • Solar thermal power generation is one of promising and well-proven ways to convert solar energy to electricity. Though it requires high initial cost for system construction and continuous efforts for maintainment. it is more positive in terms of efficiency than other solar power generation technologies. Moreover, solar thermal power generation allows additional benefits of cheap thermal storage and easy hybridization with other fossil fuel-driven power generation. Owing to these benefits, large scale solar thermal power generation technology is expected to be competitive to other commercial technologies in the near future. In this paper an overview on the solar thermal hybrid power generation technology and the state of the art in Korea were briefly introduced.

신세대와 중년기 부부의 노부모 부양에 따른 부담감 및 보상감 분석 (Caregiver Burden and Rewards in New Generation and Middle-aged Couples)

  • The purpose of this study was to compare the caregiver burden and rewards in new generation and middle-aged couples. Data were collected from 207 new generation couples and 196 middle-aged couples who had either of older parents and lived in Seoul. Major findings are as fallows; 1. The burden were constituted with restriction of privacy physical burden strain psychological burden economic cost and guilt. The rewards were constituted with recognition pride maturity improving relationship and assistance of household and childcare. 2. The caregiver burden of new generation and middle-aged wives were hgiher than husbands. Hwever the caregiver rewards of new generation and middle-aged husbands were higher than wives. 3. The caregiver burden of middle-aged husbands were higher than new generation husbands bur there was no significant difference between new generation and middle-aged wives. 4. The caregiver rewards of middle-aged wives were higher than new generation wives but there was no significant difference between new generation and middle-aged husbands.

  • 본 논문은 효율향상 프로그램의 비용효과 분석을 위한 대리발전기법과 수요감소기법이 조합된 발전운전 회피비용 계산 방법론을 제안하였다. 수용가 전력사용 행태에 따른 효율향상 수요관리 자원의 가동지수를 도입하여 보급된 고효율기기의 시간별 운전용량을 계산하는 데 활용하였다 또한, 기준수요에서 최대수요시간의 운전용량을 그 시간에 기여하는 최대수요 절감량으로 계산하였으며, 발전운전 회피비용을 이용한 효율향상 수요관리 자원의 영향을 평가하였다. 수요관리 전후의 효과분석을 위한 사례연구 모델로 IEEE-RTS를 활용하였으며, 수요관리 효과로 인한 각 발전기의 발전량, 발전비용 및 계통한계비용(SMP)의 변화 등을 분석하였다. 본 방법은 단기 수요관리 효과를 예측함은 물론 현재 실시하고 있는 효율향상 수요관리 자원의 효과를 추정하는데 활용 가능하고, 계산결과는 수요관리자원의 효과분석을 위한 기초자료로 활용 가능하다.

  • 본 논문에서는 국내 발전산업에 대한 비용함수를 추정하고 계수에 대한 시뮬레이션을 통하여 신재생에너지 투입 확대가 화석에너지 수요와 전력공급가격에 미치는 파급효과를 분석한다. 신재생에너지는 풍력, 태양광, 바이오, 연료전지, 수력 등 여러 에너지원을 통합한 개념으로서 산정방식의 일반화 문제와 자료의 제약 등의 이유로 각 에너지원의 상용 단가를 하나의 투입 가격으로 객관적으로 산정하는 것은 용이하지 않다. 이러한 현실적 한계를 고려하여 적정 수준의 신재생에너지 투입을 전제로 제약비용함수(restricted cost function)를 도출한 다음, 공급관계식(supply relation)을 결합하여 추정을 위한 방정식체계를 구성한다. 특히 신재생에너지의 암묵가격(shadow price)을 산출함으로써 신재생에너지 투입 확대로 인한 기업의 잠재적 비용부담의 변화추이를 분석한다.

중앙난방방식을 지역난방과 소형열병합난방 방식으로 전환 시 경제성 비교 분석 (Analysis of the Economic Efficiency of the District Heating and Gas Engine Co-Generation System Compared with the Central Heating System)

  • This study was conducted to determine the LCC of apartment complexes with district heating and a cogeneration system. For the purpose of analyzing LCC according to the size of the apartment complex, 500, 1,500, and 4,000-unit model apartments were selected. Analysis was performed on the design of the heating system and the life cycle cost including total construction cost, maintenance and operation cost for the duration of the project period (15 years). According to the calculated results, 1) The initial cost of the cogeneration system for 500, 1,500, and 4,000-unit apartments is higher than that of the district heating system by 20%, 13%, and 12%, respectively. 2) In the case of the cogeneration system, the payback period by electric generation was found to be 5.21, 4.92 and 4.47 years, and saving cost was calculated to be 29 billion won, 94 billion won and 262 billion won after the payback period for 500, 1,500, and 4,000-unit apartments, respectively. 3) The LCC values of the cogeneration system were 1.12, 1.07 and 1.06 times larger than those of the district system according to the size of the apartment complex. In this study, the district heating system was found to be more efficient than the cogeneration system in terms of LCC reduction. 4) District heating is affected by fuel bills, so energy efficiency should be improved through recovering waste heat (incineration heat, etc.). Also, district cooling should be provided according to heat use to keep the temperature high in winter and low in summer.

후쿠시마원전사고 이후 원전 경제성과 안전성(사회적 수용성)의 최적점 연구 (A Research on the Economic Feasibility of Korean Nuclear Power under the Condition of Social Acceptance after Fukushima Accident)

  • 2011년 3월 발생한 일본의 후쿠시마 원전 사고는 원전의 안전성 문제를 넘어 경제성까지 논란을 불러일으키고 있으며, 이러한 문제는 원전 확대에 대한 비판적 시각을 전 세계적으로 확대시키고 있다. 따라서 원전이 안전성을 충분히 유지하면서도 타 전원에 비해 경제성이 있다는 것을 입증한다면 현재는 물론 지속가능한 전원으로서의 원전의 역할을 기대할 수 있을 것이다. 후쿠시마 원전사고 이후 국민들이 실제로 느끼는 '사회적 안전성' 정도를 알아보기 위해 안전성 대신 일반국민의 수용성을 지표로 삼아 안전에 대한 비용을 얼마나 지불할 수 있느냐를 알아보기 위해 비용편익분석의 하나인 조건부가치측정법(CVM: contingent valuation method)을 이용하였다. 경제성과 안전성의 trade-off값을 설문조사를 통해 알아본 결과 발전원가 4.75원/kWh 인상효과를 가져왔다. 이를 현재 원전발전단가 39.11 원/kWh에 반영하면 43.86 원/kWh으로 석탄화력 발전원가 67 원/kWh과 비교해 여전히 경쟁력이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 결과는 2013년 말 수립예정인 제2차 에너지기본계획[1] 등에 기초자료로 중요한 정책적 시사점을 가져다 줄 것이다.

  • Security of a power system refers to its robustness relative to a set of imminent disturbances (contingencies) during operation. The socially optimal solution for the actuall level of generation/consumption has been well-known spot pricing at shot-run marginal cost. The main disadvantage of this approach arises because serious contingencies occur quite infrequently. Thus by establishing contractual obligations for contingency offering before an actual operation time through decision feedback we can obtain socially optimal level of system security. Under probabilistic precontract pricing the operating point is established at equal incremental cost of the expected short-run and collapse cost of each participant. Rates for power generation/consumption and for an offer to use during a contingency, as well as information on the probability distribution of contingency need for each participant, are derived so that individual optimization will lead to the socially optimal solution in which system security is optimized and the aggregate benefit is maxmized.

  • In this paper, utilization of load duration curves is presented for analyzing the effect of load power factor and determining the value of load power factor effectively. In addition, the power factor sensitivity of generation cost and integrated costs including voltage variation penalty cost are used for determining the value of the load power factor from the point of view of voltage regulation and economic investment. It is shown through the application to the KEPCO power system that the load power factor can be enhanced effectively and appropriately using the load duration curve.
